Bugs and issues I've run into.

First the bugs
PDF links are problematic. Most of the time they just say "Cannot find an application which can open this file." I've been able to get one to download once, but even then then the browser doesn't launch the PDFs. If I later go into the PDF reader they are there and readable.
Moving the cursor does not scroll the text within a textarea.
Going forward/back in the history causes a page to reload, including posting a form. On web discussion forums this can cause multiple duplicate postings.
Taps don't register accurately and I often have to tap multiple times to get what I want.
The next/previous app gesture doesn't work most of the time
"Weekday only" alarms go off on weekends. (I'll find out about the converse tomorrow afternoon ;-)
Now the issues/feature requests:
The "I'm sitting on the Touchstone" screen:
Make that screen rotation aware
Configurable option to turn off the backlight completely (I keep my phone next to my bed at night)
Make it possible to turn off the audible "I've been put on a Touchstone" alert sound
Provide a configurable Snooze time for alarms and calendar alerts.
There isn't a way to categorize contacts, preferably with a way to set a single ringtone for an entire category.
Provide a way to change the default text size, especially in the Email app: I am lucky enough to have good eyes, and the text size is just too big by default. I'd rather be able to fit more information at my option.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Have a new Pre, just playing with it for a couple of hours; very much agree with the "feature request;" especially relating to Touchstone screen (rotation aware, backlight off and alert sound). The categorizing of contacts is missing and is important relative to being able to have various ringtones for various types (personal, work, etc.) Also, why not have various user selectable ringtones or alert sounds for text messages, emails and IM's; by contact AND by category?

Java PDK Bugs and Issues

Here are some bugs and issues I've run across using the JPDK that I thought other
developers should be aware of. The following information comes from using JPDK
1.1 with Oracle Portal Version 3.0.6.3.3 Early Adopter on Windows 2000.
1) Do not use a colon character (':') in the String value returned by the method getTitle( Locale l ) in the class Portlet. Registering the provider will appear to succeed, but when you view the Portlet Repository you will get the following error message:
An Unhandled Exception has occurred. ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error:
character to number conversion error
Your provider and its portlets will not appear in the Portlet Repository when this error occurs.
Perhaps other characters will cause this error as well.
2) The Provider class method initSession() is supposed to propagate the array of returned Cookies back to the browser. The Cookies are never propagated to the browser. This is a huge road-block for our application and we need to have this problem fixed as there is no workaround.
3) There is a limit to the number of portlets you can have per provider. I initially wrote a provider class that managed 19 portlet classes. However, after registering the provider only 17 portlet classes were loaded by the provider and/or displayed by the Portlet Repository. I had to create a second provider to manage additional portlets. The second provider worked out fine for me because I have 5 portlets that are for "administrator" users only. Moving these portlets left 14 portlets for the first provider to manage.
Note: I don't know if this error occurs using the provider.xml method of implementing a provider and its portlets. My provider and portlets are implemented directly using the Java class API's.
4) Sometimes I will receive the error "Meta data missing for portlet ID=<number>" when a portlet is rendered for the first time. This error does not occur often but when the error happens two conditions are met:
a) The portlet is being rendered for the first time
b) The HTTP and Web Assistant NT services have recently been started.
This error is obviously caused by some timeout but increasing the timeout values
for both the provider and the portlet has no effect. This error may be restricted to the NT platform.
The following notes are not bugs but issues to be aware of:
1) Make sure you have the "sessiontimeout" parameter defined when declaring the initArgs of a servlet in the zone.properties file and you intend to register your provider with a "Login Frequency" of "Once per User Session". For example:
servlet.urlservlet.initArgs=debuglevel=1,sessiontimeout=1800000
If you leave off the session timeout, Oracle Portal will call your provider's initSession() method for every request constantly generating new a session ID.
2) Currently there is no means to check whether a ProviderUser has administrative
privileges. This feature would be extremely helpful for restricting which portlets a user has access to when the provider's getPortlets() method is called.
3) Currently there is no Java API for storing user and global preferences in the
Oracle database. The JPDK provides a PersonalizationManager class but the method
of storing the preferences needs to be implemented by the developer.
The default Personalization Manager persists user preferences as a file
to disk. However, this method opens up security holes and hinders scaleability.
We got around the security and scalability issues by using Oracle's JDBC
driver to persist user and global preferences to custom tables in the underlying Oracle database.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has run across the cookie propagation issue and has any further insights.

Thank you for your feedback on the JPDK. The information you provide helps us understand how customers are using 9iAS
Portal and its development kits. I apologize for the delay in getting back with you. Since you are using the Early Adopters
release, we wanted to test a few of the bugs and issues on the production release of 9iAS Portal.
1) Using a colon character (:) in the String value returned by the method getTitle(Locale l) returned the ORA-06502 error is a
known issue. This issue actually occurs within 9iAS Portal and should be resolved in the first maintenance release scheduled
for 9iAS Portal.

2) The Provider class method initSession() not propagating the array of returned cookies back to the browser is an issue that we are currently working on. This bug has been fixed for most cases in the first maintenance release. A 100% fix of this issue is still being worked on.
3) The limit to the number of portlets you can have per provider was an issue in the Early Adopter release, but is no longer an issue with 9iAS Portal production. Upgrade to the production release and you should no longer see this problem.
4) The error "Meta data missing for portlet ID=<number>". I have not seen or heard about others receiving this same message. For this error, can you upgrade to the production version and let me know if you still receive this error message. At that time we can check for differences within the configuration.
Not bug, but issues......
1) You have made a good point with the sessiontimeout parameter. The JPDK uses servlet 2.0 APIs which does not provide access to the sessiontimeout. Currently, you will need to specify the sessiontimeout parameter in the zone.properties file.
2) This is true. Currently there is no means to check whether a ProviderUser has administrative privileges. This is on our features list for future enhancements.
3) This is also true. The DefaultPortletPersonalizationManager was created as a default runtime for developers not used to writing portlet code. It allows developers to write portlet code without concentrating on the underlying framework. Once a developer becomes more experienced with the JPDK and portlet environment, we encourage them to create their own
customization manager. This includes changing how the portlet repository is stored or changing how the user customization is
handled and where it is stored. You have no limitations as long as you follow the guidelines of the PortletPersonalizationManager interface.
I hope this information helped. Again, we appreciate and welcome this type of feedback, it helps us not only locate bugs and issues, but also helps prioritize our enhancement list.

My Ical is all screwed up now that I've upgraded my Mac Desktop. There are no borders with the days of the week and it's all running into each other. Help Pleeease!! I have a busy schedule and this is so confusing. How do I get my old Ical back?

I'm trying to figure out how to change my ICal back to the way it was before I upgrated my Desktop Mac computer. I used to have a perfect calendar and since I upgraded, there are no side borders to the days when I'm on the "month" view. It all looks like it is one big day running into eachother. I hope it's an easy fix. If anyone knows what I'm trying to explain, please help me!!

Configure the Extreme connected to the Hughes Net modem as your router. In other words in AirPort Utility, Network tab > Router Mode should be set to "DHCP and NAT". It will provide IP addresses to all the devices on your network.
All other AirPort devices on your network should be configured as bridges: Router Mode "Off".
You may want to configure static IP addresses for any equipment that is likely to be permanently installed. For them, there is no reason to have the Extreme issue an IP address, and they can keep the same one forever.
The Microcell may be able to connect to the Express's LAN port such devices that have to handle voice or other real time audio or video streaming are generally best installed using a strictly wired connection. The same applies to the Sony TV and AppleTV. Keep them on a wired LAN served by the Extreme, avoiding any reliance on a wireless link if at all possible.
The way to implement a complex network like yours is to add one device at a time. Ensure it connects reliably, then add another. You have a lot of work to do.
WDS can be implemented even with new Extremes but its performance is likely to be so unacceptable that it would be nothing more than an exercise in frustration for you.

Asset Reversal AB08 and Issue in Dep run

I have done an inter company asset transfer Using ABT1N -Asset got successfully transferred and after posting 2 depreciations runs, i have cancelled the asset transfer via AB08. The asset posted values tab is showing me a reversal of previous depreciations in the 3rd month but the depreciation run is throwing me an error for the same asset.
The error is as follows.
113 User is not authorised to post to company in nominal Message no. Z1144
(But I have the full authorization no issues found in su53)

What issues can i run into using HR_PSBUFFER_INITIALIZE

we are going to add FM "HR_PSBUFFER_INITIALIZE" with "HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION", for improving the perofrmance...as this FM is buffering the data and doing some EXPORT to memory. The result of this is that after a few hundred calls to HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION the buffer gets big enough to impact the performance of the function module. After thousand of updates with HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION , each call will take many seconds and your ABAP program will be unusable.
but i am concerned looking at [this thread|; ...can someone elaborate on issues we may face with using HR_PSBUFFER_INITIALIZE?
Especially in the above thread it is said that
it wrecks havoc when we are trying to update records which are related to eachother
this is little unclear, what does it mean?

IOS 7 and iOS 7.02 Siri bug and issues

on the first version of iOS 7 and the most recent update (iOS 7.02) siri refers to me as tiffany every so often but is now more frequent than before. And before iOS 7 came out, siri was much better in general, for it will not recognize speech as easily as before. But to past and still current siri problems. my favorite thing to do with siri is show people how it shows you were to get rid of a dead body. But it simply replies "hmmm... i used to know the answer to that." and siri after iOS 7 will no longer tell you the scores of major sporting events such as college or nfl football.

Restore your iPhone in iTunes from your backup. I'm not having any of those issues...well, except for the dead body one.

I bought iPhoto on the first day it became available and I still experience two major bugs that totally get on my nerves and make photo editing with the app just too complicated to have fun with:
1st: all photos are stretched to landscape. There doesnt seem to be a workaround instead of auto-enhancing them which I sometimes just don't wish to do. Snapseed handles all those photos very well, as does the native app.
2nd: app crashes A LOT. All I need to do to crash it seems to be flicking through my images. It will freeze, not allowing any user input. If I then take it back to the home screen and restart the app it will crash again, to then be good to be restarted (and start everything from scratch..)
This looks frighteningly much like some crappy no name software studio using its customers as beta testers...If there's any possibility to return the app to the store, get a refund and then rebuy it when finished I'd be very happy to do that.

This doesn't happen on my iPhoto for iOS on my iPad.
2. App crashed a lot.
This doesn't happen for me either.
First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Then I would try deleting iPhoto for iOS and reinstalling it.
If that didn't work I'd sync with my computer and remove all photo from my iPad. Then install iPhoto again. Finally load one small album of photos through the sync process and test again. Some users have experienced crashes and other problems in iPhoto for iOS that were actually caused by a corrup photo.
Seems like I heard that Apple changed the app store policy to provide some refunds in certain situations. If this is tue youll need to contact the App Store ASAP to find out. I may be totally wrong here because previously once a purchase was made all sales were final. No refunds. No harm in asking though.

Can I Save and Saveas an excel running into a webbrowser (C#)? Permissions problems?

When we open an excel via the Open method we can configure the parameters 'readonly = false' and 'editable = true' to allow saving with Save and Saveas methods avoiding the messages "A file named 'test.xls' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it?"
The problem is that I don't open the Excel file as above . My application (C#) charges the excel in a webbrowser inside a windows form so I prepere a workbook, I open it in the WebBrowser ( with Navigate method, not Open method) and then I assign the WebBrowser document to the application so I could continue to control it
The question is: Is there any way to open this Excel file in a webbrowser with permissions similar to 'readonly = false' and 'editable = true' of the Open method???
- If not, the Save function doesn't work and the saving only occurs when I change the content of the webbrowser ( for instance when I it's executed the line mywebBrowser.Navigate("about:blank", false); ). Moreover It appears the messege "A file named 'test.xls' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it?"
- On the other way, if it can't be done, It`ll never works the Saveas function...
I'd appreciate any suggest!

Apex 4.2.1 - mobile theme display bugs and Cascading LOV bug

Simple page to show some issues I'm running into. Wondering if work-arounds exist or if a patch would be available before we'd go live.
First and second issue are the same I believe. So - a normal text box (label1) looks fine. But, Label2 is a Display only item and Label3 is a read-only select list item. As you can see - both of the values appear smack dab right beside the label and not in line with the other fields. It's totally ugly and not usable as is. I've tried to move this over, but the label goes with it. I can see no way of doing it, but wondering if there's some hack I can put in to solve it...
The last issues is with a cascading LOV. Simple table setup. Static on the first, the second a simple query that filters on the first. If you set the select list to Value Required and not to display null values - then when you click on the Second List button - it just hangs. The page is unusable. I suspect this has to do with the null or something. But - doesn't appear to matter if anything is chosen. Note - if the list is large - which I think then uses a different UI control, this is fine. Only when one of the lists is small does the issue reproduce.
Any workarounds or fixes? Any ideas?

I would suggest to not mix different questions and a thread for each of them. Makes it easier for others to follow.
About your problem with the cascading LOVs, it appears that this is/was a bug in jQuery Mobile which we use under the hood. I was able to reproduce the problem with APEX 4.2.1 using jQM 1.2.0, but was not able to reproduce it with APEX 5.0 which will use jQM 1.3.0RC1 or higher. The problem occurs if a select list is empty.
There are different workarounds available:
1) set the attribute "HTML Form Element Attributes" of P1_CLOV_2 to data-native-menu="false"or
2) set the attribute "Display Null Value" of P1_CLOV_2 to Yes and "Null Display Value" to - select - (or something similar). The "Value Required" = Yes will still guarantee that a value has to be picked. Having the extra null entry will guarantee that the select list always contains an entry, that seems to workaround the bug in jQuery Mobile.
I have filed bug 16355963 - jquery mobile: empty select list causes javascript error
to track that this is definitely fixed in APEX 5.0.

Sorry to hear that. I understand your frustration and I hope they send back a better working N78-3.
Myself, I count myself lucky. Everything works perfectly for me right now...email, bluetooth, maps, gps, 3rd party apps, battery life, 3G, wifi, etc. etc.
The only issue I've been having is the dreaded reboots but I believe that may have to do with 3rd party apps. I recently uninstalled Google Search app from my N78 and since then it hasn't rebooted or shown any issues. This seems odd at first but makes sense if you think about the fact that the Google Search app loads itself into memory and runs in the background at all times.
I did this this past Tuesday night and so far no reboots, crashes or any problems. I'm sure I just jinxed myself but I've been using it heavily over the last few days with no issues. Prior to this, it would usually reboot every 2 days. If it doesn't reboot for another few days I'll be happy.
I would normally not stand for this but I just love the phone and if I got something else it'd probably be the iPhone 3G which has perhaps more software bugs and issues than the N78-3!!

I am trying to use a Futek load sensor example and am running into all sorts of weird issues with the coding.

Eons ago, when I took the Labview I & II courses, I remember the instructor stating that correct VI's had to have error line. I downloaded this VI example from Futek's website and the code doesn't use it. I am trying to utilize it for some data collection rather than have to pay for their software that goes with the sensor. When I first try to run the VI I get an error, and if I replace the formula they use, then undo the replacement it appears to work. The engineer that I am trying to help out is basically wanting to be able to read and also write a file during test, and I am running into all sorts of problems.
If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

The first error when I start to run the VI, is states that I need to insert disc 1 of Labview.
I can usually hit stop and run, stop and run, and then it will start "working".
Then I get the Formula: Library version is incompatible with XNode version.
If I replace the fomula, and then undo replace it will correct the broken start arrow.....
I took the labview 1 and 2 courses 5 years ago, and haven't been a regular user so I am what you would call extremely rusty.
I have an engineer here that is wanting to use the sensor for some testing and can't really understand why I am having so many issues.
Do you know if NI has someone that might be able to work through this with me, or even if there is some Labview consultant that can be paid to help out?

I have twin sons and my wife sharing one itunes account and now from what a relative told me I should split them up since face time from my sons itouch is showing up on my wife's iphone ... so I started a new itunes account for all 3 of them, and now I want to sync each of their devices with their own accounts, before they had all the same music, etc... will I run into any issues when syncing each of their devices... meaning will I see a message like "this device is synced with another account and then it will say if I proceed it will erase what is on the device" ... ?? will I see this or will it just sync as normal

You can't merge accounts or transfer iTunes purchases from one Apple ID to another: but there is no problem about using two IDs.
Use your iCloud ID for iCloud for syncing email, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and PhotoStream.
Use your other Apple ID as before for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match.
There's no conflict about doing this, and you won't even notice as Keychain will log you in with the correct ID in each case. It's also better security not to have your iTunes login also your email address, given the number of complaints about hacked iTunes accounts.

Well, I refuse to sign up to pay Adobe a monthly tribute for life too, but that doesn't mean we are limited to CS3.
I'm staying with CS6.
Adobe still sells a perpetual-license to Photoshop CS6 without the subscription model, but it's $700 for the Standard version and a cool $1,000 for the Extended version.
You haven't mentioned your platform, Macintosh or Windows, so make sure CS3 or any other obsolete version you buy actually runs on a modern operating system.

There is none. Whatever you do to get rid of the older versions will inevitably do damage to shared components and other stuff of the new versions as well. That's just how it is with this approach... Uninstall the older versions, run the cleaner tool then reinstall CC 2014.
