Builder.parse return null under jdk 1.5.0

I would like to understand why the following code return a correct Document instance if it running under jdk 1.4.2 and instead return null if it running under jdk 1.5.0.
Thanks!
F.
String test = "<root>" + "" + "</root>";
StringReader sreader = new StringReader (test);
InputSource is = new InputSource(sreader);
DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
DocumentBuilder builder;
builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
Document doc =  builder.parse(is);
System.out.println("Document is: " + doc);

Because you're using the toString() method to display the Document. It works differently in Java 5 than it did in Java 1.4. This is perfectly okay because the DOM specification doesn't say anything about what the toString() method should return. If you relied on that for anything other than debugging then you were relying on an undocumented feature. Shouldn't do that.

  • JSObject.getWindow(this) returning null under Netscape 7.0

    Hi All
    Hopefully somebody can help me out here. I have an applet that functions under all versions of IE (4.0+) and Netscape 4.x flavour browsers.
    My applet uses Java to JavaScript communication to obtain launch parameters form the page that launched it and to control a Real Player plugin.
    I have just installed Netscape 7.0 and when I make a call to JSObject.getWindow(this) from my applet all I get returmed is null.
    My applet tag contains the mayscript attribute and the mayscript param.
    Has anybody experienced anything similar with Netscape 7.0 or 7.1
    Thanks
    Mark

    Here's my code that works in IE 6.x with the Java Plug-in that comes with NS7.1. In NS7.1 it throws a JSException.

  • RisPort returns NULL in Response

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to write a little Java application that fetches information about phones currently registered on a CUCM 6.1 cluster.
    I've generated Java classes from the WSDL using AXL 1.4's WSDL2JAVA tool.
    The code below is using these classes to fetch phone information. My problem is that the response is giving just 0. getTotalDevicesFound() returns 0, getCmNodes() returns NULL.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • GetConnectionURL returns null in Bluetooth Application

    Hi,
    I am trying to make my first steps with the JSR-82 API on mobile phones
    (Nokia 6680 and Sony Ericsson W800i). I have written a simple program
    (see code below), which is supposed to discover near-by devices, search
    for a given service (UUID) on a chosen (previously discovered) device
    (=server) and then to connect to the server and send a byte (n) to it. The
    server should then in turn send n+1 back. All this should be done using
    RFCOMM.
    The code works fine in the emulator as well as on two Nokia phones and
    on two SE phones. It further works, when using a Nokia phone as the
    server and a SE phone as the client. However, when using a SE as the
    client and a Nokia as the server, the call to getConnectionURL() returns
    null instead of a valid URL that can be used to set up the connection
    (you can find this piece of code in the ClientThread class). Can somebody
    explain me what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Michael
    P.S.:At first I thought it might be a compatibility problem, but in the
    BluetoothDemo program that comes with WTK2.2 the correct URL ist
    returned by getConnectionURL() (have other problems with this example
    though, when it comes to download images, in particular...).

In JDeveloper 3.1 'request.getParameter("ROWKEY")' in this JSP returns the rowkey for the record being edited, but in JDeveloper 3.2 'request.getParameter("_ROWKEY")' returns null. No modifications have bean made to the application - the working JDeveloper 3.1 app has only been compiled in JDeveloper 3.2. Can anyone help please?

    Hi,
    This exception is raised when the multipart/form-data parser has read the number of bytes specified by the Content-Length HTTP header, or tries to read past the end of the input stream, but has not parsed to the end of the message. As implied by the error text, this can happen for a couple of reasons.
    Although its unlikely, it is possible for a client to sent an incorrect Content-Length header. However, we've so far only seen this with a user-written HTTP client. We have yet to see a browser send the wrong value.
    The usual reason for this error is if a user hits the stop button while submitting a form. If the browser has already sent the HTTP header, including Content-Type, then the parser will try to read the entire message. However, this is going to fail, as the browser stops sending the request as soon as the stop button is pressed.
    Finally, there is one more possible reason for this error, and that is if the request is somehow being 'munged' in some way between the browser and the servlet container.
    To help us better understand what is happening here, can you supply
    the following information:
    - Does this problem happen consistently or occur only randomly?
    - When it does happen, is it repeatable, or does it go away if the user hits the submit button again?
    - Does it happen with certain HTML forms, any HTML form, or is it specific to the data entered into a pariticular form?
    - Does it happen with any browser, or a specific version and/or implementation?
    - What is your network configuration? For example, does the problem occur only when going through a proxy server or fire wall.
    - Does it depend on network load? For example, does it happen only at heavy load times?
    - What is you web server configuration, on what platform are you running it, and what JDK version are you using?
    As I'm writing this, the TAR system is down for upgrades - my apologies if you've already supplied this information.
    Regards,
    Simon

  • XML Element to string conversion returning null

    Hi,
    When i try to convert XML Element to string using toString() API, it returns something like [device: null] where device is element tag.
    Code is as follows -
    Document xmlDoc;
    DOMParser parser = (DOMParser)Class.forName("org.apache.xerces.parsers.DOMParser").newInstance();
    parser.setFeature( "http://apache.org/xml/features/dom/defer-node-expansion", true );
    parser.parse(new InputSource(new StringReader(tableStr)));
    xmlDoc = parser.getDocument();
    Element root = xmlDoc.getDocumentElement();
    NodeList nodeList = root.getElementsByTagName("device");
    Element deviceNode = (Element)nodeList.item(nodeList.getLength()-1);
    System.out.println(deviceNode.toString()); //prints [device: null] ????
    System.out.println(deviceNode.getAttribute("ipAddress")); //prints correct ip address
    Any idea why i am getting [device: null] when trying to convert Element to String though attribute value is retrieved.
    Thanks,
    Deepak

    Hi.
    Are you in 11.1.1.6.0 version or latest patch 11.1.1.6.6? I think that this issue was fixed already in latest version.
    Update: Read Bug 13554969 : PRESENTER NAVIGATION BEAN RETURNED NULL from Oracle My Support
    One workaround that I applied to a Portal was change navigation from goLinkPrettyUrl to PPR Nav using commandLinks. If you don't have Oracle SES or requirements about must be goLinks you can try this workaround.
    Regards.

  • Dom parsing -- ruturning null?

    when trying to parse an xml file using DocumentBuilder.parse, i dont get any exceptions, it just returns null. I wrote a succinct Test class to debug and still cannot find the problem. below is the output, and the method i wrote.
    thanx for your help:-)
    matt
    output looks like this:
    entering Test.parse
    factory = org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl@7fa65e
    builder = org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderImpl@8385e3
    doc = [#document: null]
    leaving Test.parse
    the parse method looks like this:
    public Document parse(File xmlFile)
    System.out.println("entering Test.parse");
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = null;
    DocumentBuilder builder = null;
    Document doc = null;
    try
    factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    doc = builder.parse(xmlFile);
    System.out.println("factory = " + factory);
    System.out.println("builder = " + builder);
    System.out.println("doc = " + doc);
    }//end try
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    }//end catch e
    System.out.println("leaving Test.parse");
    return doc;
    }//end parse

    The parse() method doesn't return null, "[#document: null]" is what's returned by toString() method when you print it. Call getDocumentElement() method for the document returned by parse() to get the root node of the document.
    /Sasha
    when trying to parse an xml file using
    DocumentBuilder.parse, i dont get any exceptions, it
    just returns null. I wrote a succinct Test class to
    debug and still cannot find the problem. below is the
    output, and the method i wrote.
    thanx for your help:-)
    matt
    output looks like this:
    entering Test.parse
    factory =
    org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl@7fa65
    builder =
    org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderImpl@8385e3
    doc = [#document: null]
    leaving Test.parse
    the parse method looks like this:
    public Document parse(File xmlFile)
    System.out.println("entering Test.parse");
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = null;
    DocumentBuilder builder = null;
    Document doc = null;
    try
    factory =
    factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    doc = builder.parse(xmlFile);
    System.out.println("factory = " +
    ctory = " + factory);
    System.out.println("builder = " +
    ilder = " + builder);
    System.out.println("doc = " + doc);
    }//end try
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    }//end catch e
    System.out.println("leaving Test.parse");
    return doc;
    }//end parse

  • Dynamic Declarative Component managed bean returned null

    Hi,
    In a project from an application a DDC component is defined. This component uses a managed/backing bean with view scope.
    Using this component inside this project is working fine. This component should be used in other view controller projects, and here where the problems are.
    This project(let's call it Common) is deployed as ADF Library jar, and used in the other V-C projects.
    The big problem is that the managed bean defined for the logic of this component is not 'reacheable'.
    (Another problem is that the attribute value is not seen as its EL expression but as string, for this i found a workaround.)
    In project Common the adfc-config.xml file:
    <adfc-config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller" version="1.2">

    Can you help figure it out, why is not working or why the managed bean is not visible in other projects but only in the one where the component is defined?
    Thank you for your time,
    Bogdan
    ps: how can i format the source code, on this fourm?

    Hi Frank,
    Thank you for the answer.
    I must say i'm quite new with ADF technology and maybe my questions are silly.
    Here is a Quote from "Oracle Fusion Developer Guide - Building Rich Internet Application with Oracle ADF" by Frank Nimphius and Lynn Munsinger Chapter 15 page 498:
    "You build dynamic declarative components *instead* of tag library based declarative components, if component resuse is required *only within the application* that has the component defined."
    Maybe i misunderstand the meaning of application from this sentence, but i need this component in several ViewController projects from only one application (ADF application).
    Tag lib declarative component I would not like to have, since the (automtically) build process is not my responsability and it will take some time till is pinpointed, but still is a last resort.
    Anyway two things are strange:
    1. Why the component is still available in other projects(and the beans not)?
    2. Why when a binding variable (for example: of type FaceCtrlHierBinding) has the correct type in the declarative project and in the order projects is of type String and its value is the variable name?
    Example:
    <af:declarativeComponent ...
    AllItems="#{bindings.Action}"
    In project where the component is declared its value is an instance of FacesCtrlHierBinding and in the rest of the projects is of type String with value "Action".
    Once again thank you a lot,
    Bogdan

  • FindNode returning Null And XML Not Accepting Special Characters

    Hi All,
    i am trying the get the attribute value in the element "ns4:InfoCFDi" using FindNode method, but the method is returning NULL. I used the same code for other sample as well and was successfull. but for this specific XML file(which is below) I am getting a Null.
    i can get till S:Body, but when i try to use FindNode for ":Body/s4:ResponseGeneraCFDi" I get Null value.
    And I used "S:Body/*[local-name()=" | "ns4:ResponseGeneraCFDi" | "]";
    as mentioned in other post but still no success.
    ==>I Have one more question relating to special characters. I need to use characters such as - ó in my XML to read as well as write. When I try to read i am getting XML parse error and when writing, i cannot open the file properly.

    First of all you have to supply a value you want to search for and this has to be the complete path to the value. You're saying you already tried that, but can you paste the code which you used for that? I don't see the path mentioned in the code you posted.
    *FindNode*
    Syntax
    FindNode(Path)
    Description
    Use the FindNode method to return a reference to an XmlNode.
    The path is specified as the list of tag names, to the node that you want to find, each separated by a slash (/).
    Parameters
    Path
    Specify the tag names up to and including the name of the node that you want returned, starting with a slash and each separated by a slash (/). This is known as the XPath query language.>
    Another option would be this snippet of code:
    &InfoCFDiArray = GetElementsByTagName("ns4:InfoCFDi");
    &InfoCFDiNode = &InfoCFDiArray [1];
    &attValue = &InfoCFDiNode.GetAttributeValue("noCertificadoSAT")
    Warning(&attValue);
    It creates an array of XML Nodes which match the name "ns4:InfoCFDi". Since there's only one in the XML it's safe to assume it will be the one and only node in the array. I've assigned that node to the variable &InfoCFDiNode and use that to retrieve the attribute "noCertificadoSAT" value. The warning message should display the value supplied there.
    Concering the special characters; you will have to change the encoding of the XML. Peoplecode sets this to UTF-8 by default, but doesn't include this in the header. There's a little hack for that somewhere on the web, I'll see if I can find it.

  • HelpSet.findHelpSet() returns null, and trapping ID errors

    I was having a problem initializing JavaHelp. HelpSet.findHelpSet() was returning null. I searched the forum, and found it was a common problem, but the answers were unhelpful. The answers pointed to a problem with CLASSPATH, but offered little in the way of advice for a newbie like myself on how to deal with it.
    A second issue concerns HelpBroker.enableHelpOnButton(). If you feed it a bogus ID, it throws an exception, and there's no way to trap it and fail gracefully. JHUG doesn't provide much in the way of alternatives.
    Now, having done a bit of research and testing, I'm willing to share a cookbook formula for what worked for me.
    I'm working in a project directory that contains MyApp.jar and the Help subdirectory, including Help/Help.hs. My first step is to copy jh.jar to the project directory.
    Next, in the manifest file used to generate MyApp.jar, I add the line:
        Class-Path: jh.jar Help/I'm working with Eclipse, so in Eclipse, I use Project - Properties - Java Build Path - Libraries to add JAR file jh.jar, and Class Folder Tony/Help
    I define the following convenience class:
    public class HelpAction extends AbstractAction
        private static HelpBroker helpBroker = null;
        private String label = null;
        public HelpAction( String name, String label )
            super( name );
            this.label = label;
        public void actionPerformed( ActionEvent event )
            displayHelp( label );
        public static boolean displayHelp( String label )
            if ( helpBroker == null )
                Utils.reportError( "Help package not initialized!" );
                return false;
            try
                helpBroker.setCurrentID( label );
                helpBroker.setDisplayed( true );
                return true;
            catch ( Exception e )
                Utils.reportError( e, "Help for " + label + " not found" );
                return false;
        public static boolean initialize( String hsName )
            URL hsURL = HelpSet.findHelpSet( null, hsName );
            if ( hsURL == null )
                Utils.reportError( "Can't find helpset " + hsName );
                return false;
            try
                HelpSet helpSet = new HelpSet( null, hsURL );
                helpBroker = helpSet.createHelpBroker();
            catch ( HelpSetException e )
                Utils.reportError( e, "Can't open helpset " + hsName );
                return false;
            return true;
    }If you use this class in your own code, you'll want to replace Utils.reportError() with something of your own devising.
    Finally, in my GUI class, I use the following:
        JPanel panel = ...
        JMenu menu = ...
        JToolbar toolbar = ...
        HelpAction.initialize( "Help.hs" )
        Action gsAction = new HelpAction( "Getting Started Guide", "gs.top" );
        menu.add( gsAction );
        JButton helpButton = new HelpAction( "Help", "man.top" );
        toolbar.add( helpButton );
        InputMap imap = panel.getInputMap( JComponent.WHEN_ANCESTOR_OF_FOCUSED_COMPONENT );
        imap.put( KeyStroke.getKeyStroke( "F1" ), "F1help" );
        ActionMap amap = panel.getActionMap();
        amap.put( "F1help", new HelpAction( null, "man.top" ) );

    Sorry, the sixth-from-last line of my example should read,
        JButton helpButton = new JButton( new HelpAction( "Help", "man.top" ) );

  • MessageBroker.getMessageBroker(null) returns null.. why?

    Hello
    I have seen lot of posts regarding this but no clear reason why this would happen. My server runs under Tomcat 6.0.33. In a spearate thread, I try to get MessageBroker msgBroker = MessageBroker.getMessageBroker(null); but it always returns null. In my web.xml, there is a valid servlet MessageBrokerServlet with load-on-startup = 1. In one of the posts Rohit suggested copy jta.jar to tomcat libs but it doesnot help either. I tried to wait 30 secs or so in my thread before invoking MessageBroker.getMessageBroker(null) and also tried to set param-name messageBrokerId in web.xml, but none seems to help.. please help...
    Also tried MessageBroker broker = FlexContext.getMessageBroker() in the init() of my Servlet but it is also null.
    thanks
    Rupak
    Message was edited by: RupakKhurana

    It is resolved now. Upon careful examination of the log, I found that the MessageBrokerServlet was indeed throwing an exception due to a wrong tag being used in messaging-config.xml file..

  • GetDocumentBase returns null in Update 40

    The change to make getCodeBase() and getDocumentBase() return null has broken our FindinSite-CD signed applet which is out in the field on many data CDs and similar, ie running locally.  It doesn't provide any more security as our all-permissions applet can still access the same information (once it knows where it is).  The trouble is, the CD may be run from anywhere so I do not know the absolute path in advance. I have found that I can add code so that JavaScript is used to pass the current URL as a PARAM to the APPLET.  However this should not be necessary.
    Can you provide a better fix that does not break all our existing users who update to Update 25 or 40?
    I would be happy for our applet to have access restricted to its own directory or lower.
    Or for an all-permissions applet, make getCodeBase() and getDocumentBase() return the correct values.
    Please see the second link below for a further discussion.
    Bug ID: JDK-8019177 getdocument base should behave the same as getcodebase for file applets

    PS  There is a separate Firefox 23 issue stopping access to local Java applets - this should be fixed this week in version 24.

    Our company uses the above FindinSite-CD software to provide search functionality on our data CDs and we have done so successfully for many years.  These latest changes in Update 40 have now broken this vital component on our product and will cost us considerably in technical support time and replacing the discs when a fix comes out. Just an end user's perspective!

    1. post your code wrapped in code tags and it'll display it nicely.
    2. post to the Java Media Framework topic,
    I haven't tried JMF within an applet.
    Have you tried getting it working in an application first ?
    That should simplify your debugging to start with.
    I suspect the Player hasn't started yet, or isn't in a realised state.
