Building with HTML 5 and css3

I am rebuilding our large company website and am looking to implement a range of changes.
I am also now looking to future proof the website as much as possible.
Should I be using HTML5 and CSS3 (or one or the other) at this stage or is this still some way off at the moment in terms of cross browser support?
For css3 I am looking more at rounded corners gradients and for html5, forms etc
Also can anyone reccommend any good books on css3 and html5?

Look at your analytics before making any changes like this. And if you don't have analytics yet, go sign up for Google Analytics and just try to get a picture for what your user base is using. You can make a really nice site, but if your users don't have the technology to see it, it doesn't help anyone.
And just so you know, switching to the HTML5 document type is ok, but using HTML5 elements may not be. For instance, to support older browsers, you can use the HTML5 shiv include from Google ( http://code.google.com/p/html5shiv/ ) so that older browsers can understand some of the elements. But it's not a complete fix to enable all functionality in older browsers.

Email with html body and a pdf attachment

Hi,
i try to send a email with html body and one attach in pdf
in release 4.6c using the SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1.
I've put the html in the txt table and the pdf in bin table but i obtain the following situation:
1) with only the html in the body i see a right email in html
2) with the html body AND the pdf attach i obtain a empty mail with two attach.
what can i do ? I's possible to do this.

I noticed that Muse doesn't have a PayPal Subscribe button for monthly payments.
PayPal can give me HTML code to embed the button in the website.

Yes you can do that.
Insert code in <Body> of Page:
To insert HTML code in Body of page
Open the page in design mode.
Go to Object > Insert HTML.
Past the code in the window and hit OK.
To insert HTML code in <Head> of Page
Open Page in design Mode
Go to Page > Page Properties > Metadata > HTMl for Head
Paste the code in HTML for <head> section and click OK

Having trouble with html snippets and movies in iweb 09

Hi I have built a site iweb2.0.4 and recently moved it onto my new machine with iweb 09 on. Basically I have been putting in videos that I have exported for web out of Quicktime. In the past I have simply added an html snippet code like this in <iframe src="http://evileducation.org/stammuraifinalcomp/ReadMe.html" style="width: 340px; height: 285px"; scrolling="no" controller="true" frameborder="0"></iframe>
I edit the ReadMe.html based on a tutorial I saw and it loads the movie after pressing the "Click to play" button. Now in 09 when I put the code in to the snippet it just shows a Quicktime symbol with a question mark. if you check the link below you can see the videos with the best I have managed to do so far which is get the new movies on but they both autoplay (I have linked in this instance to the 4kb .mov in each folder rather than the readme.html.). I don't want to just drag a video in I would like the options to view on phone or on computer etc and not for them to autoplay. Is there a new/ different way to do this now. Surely it shouldn't be this hard to get the export for web in Quicktime and iWeb to work together? The frustrating thing is if you check the link below the old movies work fine still it's just the 2 new ones. Soz for the long one!

Possible bug with HTML emails and attachments from Mail.app

I'm trying to send an attachment with an HTML email from Mail.app and getting unexpected results. I've been messing around with the order that things get added to the new e-mail and it seems that I can have either an attachment or I can have HTML email, not both.
The code... (of course simplified)

Help Please: working with HTML BLOBS and workflow attachments

simply put need to be able to:
1. create html document using plsql and store as BLOB in a table.
2. retrieve this BLOB and send as Document Attachment in workflow notification.
This sounds so simple to be able to do and yet I've spent the past week trying to find easy to understand documentation on how to do this.
The html i'm creating is too large for just the normal 32K (I believe) buffer for a regular (text) document attachment. If i limit the # of rows returned, I can use this method just fine. However, my assumption is that with the amount of data I need to return in the attachment is that the BLOB type is what i will need to be able to accomplish this.
I would be more than happy to e-mail anyone samples of the workflow and code I am currently using to attempt this.
Lastly, one of the main articles I've looked at is this:

In my latest attempt, i picked an html file currently stored in fnd_lobs and tried to send the file as an attachment.

ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
Any help would be greatly appreciated... would consider naming our next child after you. ;)

I had done some work trying to see how Lotus Notes handles HTML content.. to my dismay, Lotus Notes does not even handle some of the basic HTML correctly.. leave alone the embedded OA Fwk content in the workflow e-mail notifications.
This seems to be a bug in Lotus notes.. I don't have the link to the IBM site that talks abt the bug. Will post it once I have it.

Problem with HTML Parser and multiple instances

I have a parser program which queries a online shopping comparison web page and extracts the information needed. I am trying to run this program with different search terms which are created by entering a sentence, so each one is sent separately, however the outputs (text files) are the same for each word, despite the correct term and output file seeming passed. I suspect it might be that the connection is not being closed each time but am not sure why this is happening.
If i create an identical copy of the program and run that after the first one it works but this is not an appropriate solution.
Any help would be much appreciated. Here is some of my code, if more is required i will post.

How many Directory Servers are you using?
Are both serverconfig.xml files of PS instances the same?
Set debug level to message in the appropriate AMConfig.properties of your portal instances and look into AM debug files.
For some reason amSDK seems not to get the correct service values.

FYI - I had to remove Skype click to call from my PC because it disables my ability to cut and paste HTML to microsoft word.

Me too! I thought it was a Google Chrome problem. I even rebuilt my laptop over it and spent a whole day on the phone with Geeksquad! I just uninstalled Click-to-call and now the problem is gone.
This is a really big deal, people use copy/paste all the time and expect the formatting to work. I'm telling everybody to uninstall click-to-call and/or don't install it in the first place. I hope somebody gets serious and fixes it. And, Skype will have to acknowledge the problem and tell me it is fixed before I will give click-to-call another shot.

Exe build with database conn and report generation vi's?

I tried to build an .exe and learned the hard way that there are many things needed to be included for this to work. As is now my program is not working.
I wanted to get a list of necessary steps to make a successful build. Please correct me if I am wrong or missing anything:
1. For the report generation toolkit I must include a few support files (_exclsub.llb and _wordsub.llb)
2. For the database connectivity: I must follow NI's User guide by implementing the toolset build script function? Is there an easier way?
If there are any simpler ways to get this working please let me know.

Yes I have the runtime installed. I also got the program working correctly by doing the following:
LV 8.6 and greater-->
1. added two folders to the project from the project explorer menu.
      a. Utilities folder
      b. LVClass folder
2. during the .exe build I had to:
      a. add LVClass folder to always include in source file settings
      b. browse in the Utilities folder to NIReportLLB folder and add that to always include as mentioned above (note: if you add the whole utilities folder you will get a broken vi error when building it, even if you fix the vi it still didn't work properly for me so I just included the folder I needed for word/excel)
took about a day to troubleshoot and fix but the program is working as expected. Hope this helps someone else in the future.

Help with HTML tags and web page creating

I have a project that is supposed to use an HTML class we make. He has given us the basics but we have to fill it in. My question is: How do you code a value that has been passed to a method into an html tag. For instance we have one that is called makeEmail and it is supposed to place an email address on a webpage. Here is the method, I just need to figure out how to code it correctly. Any suggestions on how to do this?

An email tag in html is very similar to a hyperlink. The string you want the makeEmail method to create is as follows:
<a href="mailto:(email address")>(email address or description or whatevber you want displayed on screen)</a>So using for example my email address, you use the following line:
<a href="mailto:[email protected]">Send an email to Mr_Silly</a>It is very much worth looking into an html tutorial, try searching for one on the web, cos there a thousands out there. It is a very simple language to learn.

Using Thunderbird/Firefox - since last upgrade, issues with HTML emails and opening PDF

Since last upgrade, it seems that I'm having 2 (maybe 3) problems:
1) emails have white/grey horizontal lines in the bottom half of the email's text or graphics
2) can't open pdf files - when I could without issue before upgrade
3) Adobe Reader - I've downloaded updates, but they won't install. (says not compatible with my computer, but running Mac OSX 10.6.8 (I even downloaded Opera brower to see if that would work, but there still seem to be Adobe issues)
Any thoughts?

Hopefully they all wound up in Home/Library/Fonts. You can safely delete everything in there, as OS X does not put anything in that folder. Fonts part of the OS are

JSP-MySQL user login with username, password and registration

Hi everyone:
i need to create a simple jsp client login with username and password. There is also a registration link for those not register yet.
I m using tomcat and MySQL and have already create a client login with username and password page.(record already in database).
I m now have no idea on how to create a registration link, ie update the database. please help..the examples i search through google were build by Jboss, strut, ApacheGeronimo which i m not familiar with.
Is it any "package" or "wizard" available in creating the login and registration page? Most of the webpage has build with user login and registration part, may i know how they "create" them?

Textarea with HTML editor is not working

Hi all,
This is producing me a real headache.
I created the simplest application in the world with one Textarea with HTML editor, and the editor control does not show the usual tool bar for fonts, color, alignment, etc. Just a ordinary textarea.
Moreover, this was working before... I moved to another location in my work (me, not the server). Yes, I thought about the Internet Explorer, but Firefox has the same issue.
So any idea I can try to make this work?
I have another applications already in production with the same issue.

I would go and integrate FCKEDITOR (http://www.fckeditor.net/ ) into your application.
Here are instructions on how to achieve this (sorry but only in German):

It basically means:
1) copying the files from fckeditor under the /images directory
(you can use the instructions here: http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/03/where-are-images-of-application.html)
2) creating two shortcuts INCLUDE_EDITOR_SCRIPTS and EDITOR
3) placing the shortcut INCLUDE_EDITOR_SCRIPTS into the page html header and
4) placing the shortcut EDITOR into the post element text of your plain textarea element
That's it.
BTW, FCKEDITOR has been included in Apex 3.0 as a standard item type.

I have been experiencing similar problems with the HTML Editor and have managed to find an answer that should start to answer some of my questions. The Apex HTML Editor Standard is actually an HTML editor called FCKeditor. The FCKeditor has a Javascript API that can be found at http://docs.fckeditor.net/FCKeditor_2.x/Developers_Guide/JavaScript_API. Unfortuately this doesn't seem to give the whole answer and I found more at http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/thread.cfm/threadid:49607.
I needed to get the text entered within my html editor standard (e.g. P1_MYTEXT) and use it within my javascript function. I did this by using the following script
