  • Recording audio ONLY from a DVD into iTunes

Hi, I'm new to macs having just got an iMac G5. So far I love it and it's loads better than any windows based system I've had. I'm wondering if it is possible to record the audio only from some music DVD's I have into iTunes...can anyone help or is this simply not possible?

Audio Hijack also creates large files, size-wise. This can be a problem if you are working with putting music on audio cds. Google "ripdifferent" for a site that discusses various methods of legally backing up legally purchased media. The gray area here actually has to do with breaking encryption- under US copyright law, users have always been allowed to make a single back-up (Fair Use) of any recorded media they have purchased. It is possible that media companies are, themselves, in violation of copyright law by making it difficult to make said backups by encrypting their media. Also, copying (ripping, recording, etc.) any DVD in any way would seem to be covered by the warning at the start of all DVDs (including soundtracks), which would include Audio Hijack, for instance. This all came about when the digital revolution made it possible to create exact copies. Back in the day, copying an LP to cassette, for instance, was not considered a problem, because you would lose a generation. BTW, ripping music DVDs can be problematic, as they are mastered differently than are "movies," and some Mac ripping programs have difficulty with them. Proceed cautiously and consider legal ramifications, but also consider retaining YOUR legal rights as well.

  • How to burn audio only from a Video Single

I have a video single as part of personal mix in itunes. When I try to burn the mix, all of the tracks burn except the video single. The dialog box says that burning is disabled for this track. I assume this is because the video content is imbedded in the file.
This is somewhat confusing as the track was noted as a single and separate video at the time of purchase. Is there any way to convert the content so that it can be included on an audio CD?
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Due to DRM, you cannot burn purchased videos, except for backup on Data CD/DVD.
The only way to separate the audio is to use a capture application like Wiretap Pro or Audio Hijack (Pro). Latest versions can be found on versiontracker.com.
    Hope this helps.

  • Burning audio only from video files

    Hi,
I'm trying to burn podcasts of one of my classes onto CDs (iPod is out of service, final is coming up, want to listen to them while driving), but they're video files. Is there a way within iTunes to extract the audio and burn only that? Should I use an outside program?
    Thanks!

    Nevermind, I just used garageband.

  • Burn Audio Only from iTunes Purchased Videos

I was thinking about buying the Green Day video album, but would like to burn the audio to a CD for the car. Anyone know of a way to do this, other than Audio Hijack? I seems to me Apple should have built this into iTunes somewhere.

There is no other way than using an application like Hijack.

    Sure.
Choose Share>Export Using QuickTime.  Then select Sound to AIFF from the Export dropdown menu.
The resulting will be an audio only AIFF file.  The Sound to AU or Wave work in the same way and will create audio files of those file types.

  • Extract audio-only from DVD. Which container format?

I've got a couple of music dvd's that contain nice DTS surround sound audio tracks. The video of these DVD's is pretty much uninteresting, so now I'm looking for a way to rip/extract the DTS track from these dvds (without converting them, I want to be able to pass the original DTS to my receiver) and put them in some container format that can easily parsed by music players (ie. it would be nice to have some metadata).
Which container format would be the most suitable? Ogg?
And which tool can do this?
Handbrake forces you to use the video as well, so that's not a viable option.

GogglesGuy wrote:Thanks, I'll take a look at it. My favorite music player and manager doesn't index mka files yet, but I'll give it a try and see if it works.
Don't take my word for it, but I've heard that the developer of the music player that you use is a pretty smart dude. Have you considered e-mailing yourself a feature request?

  • Best way to play Audio only on a DVD with video?

I have a Meditavie DVD i am making with both video and Audio combined....and i want to make some tracks that are just Audio only
for close eye Meditations. ( i dont want to have to add a CD with the DVD for just Audio)
I made one years ago and just used black as the video output track.
Is there a way to save space and just have the audio track play?
And if so how might i do it and also link to the DVD menu?
    Thanks for any help!

Below is what I wrong before I tested the obvious. Just "import as timeline" the audio only (make sure there is no m2v with the same name); Encore happily builds a disk with black. Mediinfo shows the video stream, but it appears to be at a very low datarate. So, give it a try.  I did not burn a disk; just build to a folder and used a software player.
Other options: Encore slideshows have odd problems, I'd play with making a single slide (just black, right?) slideshow, maybe set to manual advance with no advance - or a very long duration to match the audio length.
If an m2v works better for whatever reason, Encore has a minimum bitrate, I think around 2.x or 1.x. So I would try exporting  from Premiere,10 seconds of black video using CBR 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 and see if it matters.

  • Audio Tracks from Concert DVD's

Is it possible to rip the audio track from a commercially available concert DVD to an MP3 format for play within itunes (audio only)?....if not able to do it in itunes, can it be done in imovie and the audio track converted to MP3?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

It appears to cost $16 dollars.

  • TS1436 I've now wasted 4 hours of my life trying to burn Audio CDs from iTunes.  I can burn from other programs but not iTunes.  It pretends it's doing it but when it's finished the disk is blank.  It's not burned a thing.

I've also tried different speeds.  The CD-R says x52 but I've tried different speeds but that makes no difference.

I know I'm a mug but I was in a mood where I didn't want to be beaten and read all these tips on line and none of them worked.  I've given up now as it's 1AM my time.
Yes it seems most of my songs only iTunes handles.  I've tried opening them in Media Player and burning an audio CD from there but there's only a very small selection of my albums/songs and just my luck very few of those I'm trying to burn.

  • CD burner will not burn audio cds from iTunes

I have an Iomega external CD-RW burner that has been working perfectly until now. When I try to burn a cd from a playlist in iTunes, after inserting the blank cd... it says that it is checking the playlist, then the status goes to preparing to burn... and nothing happens. The drive almost appears to be unresponsive & itunes seems to have frozen, but they don't. So I have just ejected the disk and it's blank.
I've tried resetting the computer, power, changing the location of the usb connection, different cd-rs, nothing works.
I tried burning a data cd, which was successful. I just don't understand why it won't burn an audio cd from iTunes. Is there a problem with iTunes? Because it doesn't seem to be the cd burner since it is able to burn data cds.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I think it has always been the case that for burning
CDs with iTunes, the requirement is that it is an
internal Apple CD burner and that external ones might
    or might not work.
I have used external burners in the past with no problems.

  • No video (black), audio only, from imported .mov files

Bear with me while I explain the whole process to get where I am, which is that in FCE, I am importing .mov files and they are completely black, no video, just audio.  When I bring a clip into the timeline and try to render even a small clip, it is still black.
I'm not well-versed in video so please bear with me:
    Steps:
    1.  I received large video files from a videographer
    2.  the large files could not be imported or played in FCE
    3.  downloaded HandBrake converter and began converting files.  Kept them at the same size, but they were then renamed .mov files.
    4.  When I open them in QuickTime, they are black - no video.  But when I see them on the drive and press spacebar in 'finder' to play them, I can see the video.
    5.  When I import them into FCE they are black - no video - just audio.
FCE is currently set (in Easy Setup) to:  AVCHD-Apple Intermediate Codec 1920-1080i60
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I tried converting one file to mp4 and it works fine in FCE, but this takes a long, long time to convert.
    thanks
There is a 2nd issue that may relate to this:  I am trying to import JVC .m4v files and I am getting "File error 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unkown".  These files CAN be opened in Quicktime.
    FCE HD 4.0.1
    Mac OS 10.6.8

I'm having similar, but slightlly different issues.
I have been using FCE 4 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 with Quicktime 10.1 (501.29).
I convert my footage in Mpeg Streamclip (GREAT free program) and set the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec.  This makes them work really well in my timeline and I don't have rendering issues or problems.
So, my problem comes when I File/Export/Quictime Movie.
The original file plays fine, but they're 2-3 gbs each, so I put them into Quicktime to convert them to a webfriendly size, but every single time they come out as an audio only file.  GRRRR!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe I'm missing something stupid.
Thanks so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Steve

  • Left Audio Only From Headphones Jack With External Speakers

Yes, the balance is set properly under the sound system preferences.
So here's the problem, I have JBL Encounter speakers connected via the headphone jack and since yesterday only the left speaker produces sound.
I've plugged my ipod into the JBL speakers and they work fine. I've also used headphones with my computer and again, left audio only.
I've even switched the right and left satellite speakers and again only left audio is produced... though on the right (side) satellite.
Any thoughts on how to correct this? The nearest apple store is 2 and 1/2 hours away so I'd prefer not to go if there is another fix.
My three month phone service is up but I'm still covered under the apple care for a few more months.
    Thanks in advance.

Sounds as if your headphone jack is either defective or has been damaged by having a cord yanked at some stage, Kanji
It is either a trip to your nearest AASP or a mailing box from Apple to get it resolved. Applecare will cover it if the problem isn't due to accidental damage (though a cat tripping on the cord can be enough to produce such results and the price could accordingly be substantial as the port is mounted on the logicboard on recent MBPs as I understand it) .
You might want to try a regular pair of headphones in the socket to make sure the problem also occurs with them, too, though.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Putting audio track from a dvd on an iPod

I have a 2nd generation iPod nano 2g. Can the audio from a DVD be added to it?

If you can extract the audio off the DVD and convert it into a format that can be played on the iPod the answer is yes, but iTunes will not do all that for you.
You will have to find DVD ripping software to strip the content off the DVD. If it is a copy protected DVD then that would also be illegal.
