• Use of identifier in ByD Studio business objects

As Wed Feb 2nd in VQ3), we introduced a new identifier data type for partner BOs.
ByD Studio contains 2 identifier:
element ID : ID; // identifier 2 (SAP "best practiceu201D)
element Identifier   : Identifier;           // identifier 1 (u201CCCTS compliant")
As the CCTS-complient data type u201CIdentifieru201D has various difficulties, we recommend urgently to use the data type "ID". The differences between the two data types is explained below:
1. Length
The DT Identifier has a length of 255 char.
The DT ID has a length of 60 char.
2. Upper case conversion
The DT ID supports upper case only. User entries with lower case characters are automatically converted to upper case. This is the same behavior as almost all ByD identifier data types (e.g. BusinessTransactionDocumentID, ProductID, BusinessPartnerID, etc.)
The DT Identifier supports lower case letters as well.
3. Alpha conversion
The DT ID supports alpha conversion. User entries which contain number characters only are filled with zeros from the left side (leading zeros). On the UI the leading zeros are suppressed automatically. This is the same behavior as almost all ByD identifier data types (e.g. BusinessTransactionDocumentID, ProductID, BusinessPartnerID, etc.) The DT Identifier does not support alpha conversion. This leads to an u201Cunexpectedu201D sort order on the UI.
This leads to the following sort behavior:
Sort order ID Sort order Identifier:
.1.1                           .1.1
1                            1
5                            1.1
10                            10
15                            100
50                            15
100                            5
1.1                            50
ABC                            abc
(no lower case)       ABC
4. Structure
The ID data type is flat. There is no need for the u201C.Contentu201D suffix any longer.
The Identifier data type is structured (contains supplementary components), so the u201C.Contentu201D suffix is needed (although the supplementary components are disabled in the BO).
5. Behavior in ByD script coding:
The following coding works fine:
import ABSL;
var x = 1;
if (this.ID == "") {
// is true if ID is initial
this.ID = x.ToString();
this.ID = "1";
if (this.ID == "1") {
// is does not work, because u201C1u201D was filled with leading zeros
if (this.ID == "000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001") {
// is true now because u201C1u201D was filled with leading zeros
raise IDMessage.Create("I", this.ID);
// leading zeros are suppressed on the UI: u201CID: 1u201D
6. Restrictions in Extensibility and Analytics:
Only the ID data type will be supported in extensibility and analytics:
Extensibility: It will be possible to add an extension field in an BO extension (planned for FP3.0).
element ID                 : ID;
Analytics: Analytics supports only character fields with a maximum length of 60 characters & alpha conversion.
Consequence: the u201CIdentifieru201D DT cannot be used in Extensibility and Analytics.
7. Adoption
If you have used the data type "Identifier" before and want to change the BO to "ID", the following adoption tasks are necessary:
a) Business Object: change the BO definition file (see point 1)
Note: During my tests I got a activation error. In this case I solved the problem by Clean -> Save -> Activate. In this case, test data are lost
b) Business Object: Implementation: remove the u201C.Contentu201D suffix
c) UI: After the BO change, the following runtime error occurs in the affected UI. In the error text the following text occurs: u201CMapping of proxy name of attribute failed.u201D
Solution: Open the UI Designer,
(1) Tools -> Update Meta Data
(2) Go to the data model and do u201CUnbindu201D and u201CBindu201D again for the affected field
(3)     Save & Activate
d) MDAV, Forms, Web services -> not analyzed. Assumption here is that the dependent objects have to be cleaned and activated.

OK, I have found your code in your previous post.
It works in 9.2.0.1.0 and 8.1.7.0.0.

• Defining Business Objects in ES-Builder

Hi,
I tried to create a business object definition with the Enterprise Service Builder (CE 7.1 with local SLD; Selected ES-Builder Profile: "unrestricted").
I selected "create object" -> "Interface Objects" -> "Business Object". But the "Business Object"-Option is deactivated and I get the followoing warning:
Software component version does not support this object type
"Agent" and "Process-Component" are not selectable too.
I configured the Software Component in SLD and imported it to the ES-Builder. How do I have to configure my software component (version) to create a business object-definition?
Regards

Hello Rathish,
thanks for your reply.
At the moment I am evaluating the usage of the ESR. There are 3 Steps I want to perform:
First I want to model my environment. That step I have done by modelling my process-components with service-interfaces, operations, and a business-object for each process-component.
Secondly I created specifications in ESR for my service-interfaces and operations and connected them to the corresponding model objects.
Thirdly I imported the specifications from ESR into my NWDS to implement them.
Since I can connect my service-interface-specification in ESR to the corresponding service-interface in my model, I question myself why can't I do the same thing with business-objects (specify them and connect them to the model object)? Doesn't it make any sense? You wrote that specifying business-objects is not available for external use. Is there a specific reason? Also, it would be nice to import a business object-specification from ESR into NWDS. Unlike "service-interface model"->"service-interface specification"->"service-interface implementation" are connected together from model to implementation, there is a gap between "business-object model" and "business object implementation".

• Where can I find information on migrating from Business Objects 5 to XI R2?

We want to migrate several Business Objects implementations - some of which are Business Objects 5 and some Business Objects 6 to consolidate them into a XI R2 environment.
I have the document that describes migration from 6.x to XI R2 but what is the process for migrating from Business Objects 5. Do I need to migrate from 5 to 6 and then follow the 6.x to XI R2 migration?
Any pointers to additional hints and tips on migration or how to estimate how much effort is involved would also be welcome.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,
Following are the detailed steps for migration via Import Wizard:
1] Go to Start > Programs > Business Objects XI Release 2 > BusinessObjects Enterprise > Import Wizard.
2] The Welcome dialog box appears. Click Next.
Setting source and destination environments:
3] In the Specify source environment dialog box, set the following:
u2022 Source: Business Objects Enterprise BO 6.5.x.
u2022User Name:
u2022 Password: visor
BOMain key
Note: Do not check the Import Application Foundation contents option since you are not performing Performance Management migration at this time.
Click Next.
4] The Warning page appears. Click Next.
Note: The source repository can store any file, not just supported agnostic documents. Since the BusinessObjects XI Release 2 architecture requires a plug-in for each file extension, it does not import unsupported files (for example, .zip files and as .svg documents used in corporate dashboards).
5] The Specify destination environment page appears. Set the:
u2022 Destination: Business Objects Enterprise BOXI R2
u2022 User Name:
u2022 Password:
u2022 Domain key file to: Default drive: \Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise XI R2
Click Next.
6] Select the types of objects you want to import in this stage of the importing process. At a later stage, you select the objects themselves.
u2022 Select the option u2018Import universes u2018.
Click Next.
7] Import options for universes and connections dialog box appears.
Select the third option: Import all the universes and connections that the selected Web Intelligence and Desktop Intelligence documents use directly.
8] The Please choose a merge scenario dialog box appears. Select I want to merge the source system to destination system and check the automatically rename top-level folders that match top-level folder on the destination system option.
Click Next.
9] The Incremental Import dialog box appears.
You may need to import some objects more than once from the source repository to the destination repository.
In this situation, you have the following update options:
u2022 Overwrite object contents
You select the types of objects for which the content overwrite applies:
u2022 Documents (including dashboards and analytics)
u2022 Universes
u2022 Connections
When you re-import an object, it will completely overwrite and replace the matching object (and its associated files) that you imported earlier.
u2022 Overwrite object rights
When you re-import an object, its associated security rights will overwrite the rights of the matching object you imported earlier.
If you decided not to import security in the Security Migration Options dialog box, then the Overwrite object rights option is not relevant, and is therefore not available.
If you don't select any overwrite options, the matching object in the destination repository will not change when you try to import it again.
Note: This dialog box appears only if you select update as the import scenario.
Click Next.
10] Select the specific universe
Click Next
11] Information Collection complete dialog box appears.
Click Finish
12] Import Progress dialog box appears.
Click Done
Hope this helps !!
Please revert in case of any queries.

• Implementation Business Objects in CAF and developing WDJ application

Hi Experts,
I've read some articles about SAP CE CAF from SDN and I'm making some exercises according those guidence. Right now I have a problem and want to get suggestion from you.
As you know, from CE 7.1.1, the CAF support importing the Business Object through EJB model. So when develop a WDJ application using caf, we can using these procedures:
(Implementing business objects in CAF and developing WebDynpro application)
1) Create business objects or application service.
2) Generate EJB Implementation class for business objects or app service.
3) Create a WebDynpro application
4) Importing the EJB model using the template.
5) Create the UI for the app.
My problem is: In the business object or application serivice, if the operation parameter type is integer, after we generate the EJB class, the type will changed to String. After the WDJ UI is created, the application test failed. The integer field could not passed to the BO successfully.
If all the parameters type are string in the operation, there's no problem. But when I use Integer or Date, the EJB class will change the type and the WDJ app will failed.
I've also test the scenario in CE enviroment including 7.3 also failed. So I'm a little confused which step was wrong. I don't know whether you've seen such problem before, if you could give any suggestion, it'll be very appreciated!

Hi, Winters.
I got the same program, try to parse into the type which you want in AS operation.

• Get information about business object from view implementation class

Hi,
i´d like to develop some button behavior in a view. How can i get the information of the related business object like the order or the position. I like to disable buttons if specific status are set.
Bye Richard

hi,
Is needed field available in context nodes or not?
for example:
If you want to read STATUS_DESCR attribute from the context node SELECTEDDOC , then code like this
lr_selected ?=  me->typed_context->SELECTEDDOC->collection_wrapper->get_current( ).
if lr_selected is bound.
lv_status = lr_selected->get_property_as_string( 'STATUS_DESCR' ).
endif.
activtae the debugging in IF_BSP_WD_TOOLBAR_CALLBACK~GET_BUTTONS method and check the values for context nodes and attributes.
I mean debugging for:
me->typed_context
me->typed_context->SELECTEDDOC
comp_controller

• Performance issue with Business Objects Java JRC API in CRXI R2 version

A report is developed using java JRC API in CR XI release 2. When I generate the report in the designer, it took less than 5 seconds to display the results in crystal report viewer inside the designer. But in the QA environment, when I generate the same report from the application, it takes almost 1 to 1.5 minutes to display the same results in PDF. I also noticed that if the dataset contains bigger volume of data, then the reports are taking even longer almost 15 to 20 minutes.
While generating the report from the application, I noticed that most of time is taken during the execution of the com.crystaldecisions.report.web.viewer.ReportExportControl Object method as shown in following line of code
exportControl.processHttpRequest(request, response, context, null)
We thought the delay in exporting the report to PDF might be the layout of the report and data conversion to PDF for such a bigger volume of data.
Then we investigated the issue and experimented quickly to generate the same report with same result set data from the application using XML, XSL and converted the output XSL-FO to PDF using Apache FOP (Formatting Objects Processor) implementation. The time taken to export the report to PDF is less than 6 seconds. By doing this experiment, it is proved that the issue is not with conversion of data to PDF but it is the performance problem with Business Objects Java JRC API in CR XI R2.
In this regard, I searched for the above issue in the SAP community Network Forums -> Crystal Reports and Xcelsius -> Java Development -> Crystal Reports. But I did not find any answers or solutions for this kind of issue in the forums.
Any suggestion, hint in this matter is very much appreciated.

Ted, The setReportAppServer problem is resolved. Now I could able to generate the report with hardcoded values in the SQLs in just 6 seconds where as the same report was generated in CRXI R2 in 1 minute 15 seconds as mentioned in the earlier message.
But, our exisiting application passes the parameter values to the SQLs embedded in the report. For some reason the parameters are not being passed to the report and the report displays only the labels without data.
As per the crj 12 samples codes, the code is written as shown below.
1. Created ReportClient Document
2. SetReportAppServer
3. Open the report
4. Getting DatabaseController and switching the database connection at runtime
5. Then setting the parameters as detailed below
ParameteFields parameterFieldController = reportClientDoc.getDataDefController().getParameterFieldController();
parameterFieldController.setCurrentValue("", "paramname",paramvalue);
parameterFieldController.setCurrentValue("", "paramname",paramavalue);
byteArrayInputStream = (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
6. Streaming the report to the browser
Why the parematers are not being passed to the report? Do I need to follow the order of setting these parameters? Did I miss any line of code for setting Params using crj 12?
Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

• Two Business Objects to fill a Data Grid/table using Anchors?

Hi,
I have a SAP standard tile were a table (grid) is filled by an Business Object. I want to add an additional column and retrieve the value from another Business Object.
My questions
1) Can I use Anchors to automatically set the relationship between two Business Objects A & B, so that I can just Drag & Drop an additional field from Business Object B to the DataGrid of Business Object A in the design screen without writing additional code?
2) Some BO's do come with a predefined relationship to other BO's, but in the case of I have to write a supply function do I have to use a specific "Data Source Type" such as "Business Object", "BusinessQuery" or "Business CollectioN"?
3) I already tried to write a supply function, but I realized that the system does return for some BO's or BS's a object instance, if I call "gFactory.newBusinessQuery". Is there any logic/restriction behind?
I know I can use RowLoaded2 and a unbound column, but I want to know if this approach is also possible?
Thank you for any help,
Regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,
The answer to your question is YES. You can very well do it without any changes at the code level.
The scenerio can be implemented using a concept called JointField Mapping in MAS.
Scenerio 1 :
If you want to display the extra field from another BO in a list tile on the click of a search button from the search tile , then
Please do the following :
1. Select the Busines Query that you have associated to the search tile and go to properties from the View Designer.
2. In the properties, Click on the Joint Field Mapping and select the BO where the extra field id present and select the primary key, Segment Field associated, (extra field)BO Property that you want to display in the list tile.
2. Add a new control (new Field) in the List tile - ie, From the Toolbox (Tileset COntrols).
3.Go to properties of the newly added control. Associate the anchor as the same achor as the list tile was pointing to earlier. for eg : Y_BOCAPGEN.
4. Then Go to BCOLFieldName property and give the property name as the newly added BO property name(New field).
After everything is modelled, You will be able to see the extra field in your application!!!!
NOTE : Ofcourse, After the Successful generation.
Scenerio 2 :
If you want to display an Extra Field in a Detail tile,
1. Go to Relationship of the BO from the Detail tile and go to properties.
2. In the properties, You can find the Joint Field Mapping porperty.
3. This property is again modelled as explained in scenerio 1.
Hope, It would have definetly helped and answered your query.
Have a good day!!
Best Regards,
Vignesh Ravikumar.

I got a message like this: 'At present in Java reporting Component does not implement'. I use JRC and the docs (http://support.businessobjects.com/global/interactive/xi/om/JRC/default.html) show me this method. Is it not possible to change the data at runtime in JRC? • Step By Step Creation Of A new Business Object

hi,
Please Give Me Details Of A Business Object,like step by step creation of a new business object and it's utilization.

Create a business object (SWO1).
Give the business object name prefixed with Z_.
Enter the following fields with values:
Object type:      Z_TESTXX
This is the internal technical key. Page: 1
Object type can have maximum 10 characters. This must be unique across all object type. Objects are specific instances of object types at runtime.
Object name: Object_Name_for_XX
The object type is addressed with this name by external applications. This is a descriptive English name and can be up to 32 characters. This also must be unique across all object type.
Name:      Object Name: XX
This is a meaningful name of the business object.
Description:     Object Description: XX
Page: 1
Object description, can be up to 40 characters.
Program:      Z_TESTXX
Each object type has an ABAP/4 program in which methods of the object are implemented. This program is generated automatically when you create or revise an object type.
Application: indicates cross application.
3: Create an event.
Open the Object type in change mode. When you change your subtype the first step is to create a new event, this is done by selecting the Event node and clicking the create button. Give the event a name and a description. Next set the status of this object type component to implemented.
Event:          Z_EVENT_XX
Name:          Event name: XX
Description:     Event Description: XX
Click on the new event andu2026
Edit - Change Release Status- Object Type Component - Implemented
(A small box sign vanishes from the right side of the event, indicating that it is implemented)
There can be multiple triggering events for a standard/customer task.
In R/3 4.0 the release strategy for new Object Types and Object Type Components (methods, attributes, events, etc.) was enhanced. Now when an object type and/or components are created, there are different statuses to select, based on its required purpose. The statuses are:
u2022 Modeled - objects cannot be accessed at runtime. This is the status that is automatically set when an object type or component is created. Items with a modeled status cannot be referenced in any type of workflow task.
u2022 Implemented - objects can be used internally in a test environment. They are accessible, but may not be stable (especially if no delegation has been defined).
u2022 Released - objects are ready for production. Note: Local objects cannot be released.
u2022 Obsolete - objects are typically replaced by new functionality or incompatible with previous versions. This status is optional.
4: Create a method.
Next a method must be created without using any function module template. When creating the method ensure that the method call is synchronous - this means that the method doesn't require a terminating event.
A method can be synchronous or asynchronous. Synchronous Method
Method that, for the duration of its execution, assumes the process control and, after its execution, reports to the calling component (work item manager, in this case).
Synchronous methods can return the following data, if defined: Return parameters, one result and Exceptions.
Terminating events can also be defined for a single-step task described with a synchronous method. At runtime, the relevant work item is then terminated either when the synchronous method is successfully executed or when one of the defined terminating events occurs.
Asynchronous Method
Method that, after its execution, does not report directly to the calling component (work item manager, in this case).
Asynchronous object methods do not return results, parameters or exceptions.
At least one terminating event must be defined for a single-step task described with an asynchronous object method.
At runtime, the relevant work item is only terminated if one of the defined terminating events occurs.
Next set the status of this object type component to implemented. The methods are not implemented unless you once open their program. Select the method and open its program. It gives a message u201CDo you want to generate a template automatically for the missing sectionu201D. Click u201CYesu201D. Inside the program insert the code u201CCALL TRANSACTION u2018FB03u2019. Display Financial Document.
Method:     Z_METHODXX
Name:      Method name: XX
Description:     Method Description: XX
Edit - Change Release Status - Object Type Component - Implemented
5. Create Key fields.
Create key fields with ABAP dictionary field proposal.
It is the identifying key, via which the system can access a specific object, that is, an instance of the object type. The key fields of an object type are usually also the key fields in the table containing the header data for the object type. Only character-based data types are allowed as key fields. The total length allowed for all key fields is 70 characters. Each key field refers to a field in the ABAP Dictionary.
Enter u2018BKPFu2019 in table name field and select all the key fields. Press Continue button. Next set the status of these key fields to implemented.
Edit - Change Release Status -Object Type Component - Implemented
6:Implement business object.
The whole business object needs to be implemented so click on the business object title andu2026
Edit - Change Release Status - Object Type - Implemented
Now you can check the syntax, generate the Business Object and then test it. Execute the custom method you created and give the Company code, Document number and Year.

• Can SQL Server (2008 R2/2012) Integration Services connect to Business Objects / Hyperion directly?

Hi,
I have a situation where I need to pull data from Business Objects and
Hyperion using
SSIS (2008 R2/2012). I did some pro-active research on how to go about implementing this on a couple of Forums and could only figure out the below solution.
We can create an ODBC DSN / connection for Business Objects and that can be used by SSIS as a connection manager to directly link to the Business
Objects Universe. (http://www.forumtopics.com/busobj/viewtopic.php?p=622922&sid=fbb54541e1daacf9714a5672b5ed1314)
Question 1 - Has anyone tried to implement this in past? Is this possible directly or can be achieved through some workarounds? sharing inputs/experience on this will be highly appreciated!
Question 2 - If this possible in any way , how to get this thing set-up in an environment where SSIS and BO are residing on two different domains/networks. Any way to establish a connection from SSIS
to the BO instance/server?
Would really appreciate if anyone can help me out with this issue.
Thanks

• How to Execute the Business objects created in ABAP from webDynpro applicat

Wht is the steps , or where the help documents are available for accessing the Business objects created in ABAP or R/3 systems from webDynpro project.

Hello Vishal,
I couldn't find any useful documents for your purpose.
However i had a similar requirement and had implemented the same using GCP APIs. But before i send you the code help, i would like to know your exact requirement. What are you trying to achieve? Are you just wanting to execute the BO and get the result? Or is your requirement has got something more to do?

• In business object what is the use of Interface

hi ppl,
In each business object there is a interface what can we do with that. When i used wizards like dynamic parallel processing it asked for wizards what is the actual use of interfaces.

Hi Dheepak,
I have an overview on interfaces. Someone pls correct me if i am wrong here.
Interfaces are generally used to group a set of attributes and methods that can be used across different business objects. You can create your own interfaces in SWO1 and when you include these interfaces in business objects you get all these attributes and methods in the business objects (Inheritance). Its basically for re-usability of the code(Reusability). Apart from that if required you can implement your own code for the methods thus maintaining the same name with a different logic for your BO (Polymorphism).
For example assume that you have a "Display" method and a few attributes in an interface. The "Display" method is used to display a particular transaction. Now you can include this interface in any BO and all these attributes and methods will be available in that BO with their respective implementation code. Now if you want the method to form a different action in any particular BO you can go ahead and redefine this code in that BO. This redefinition will not affect other BO's that had implemeted this same interface. All other BOs which had implemented this interface will continue to function as per the implementation code defined in the interface. This makes sure that the same method works in different ways in different BO's (Polymorphism)
Supertype<-->Subtype delegation will allow us to inherit the supertype/subtype methods/attributes but it does not allow us to change the underlying code in individual BOs. Hence polymorphism cant be acheived here

• Business Objects, external services and application services in CAs

Hi All,
right now we are developing our first eSOA Composite Application with CE and I have some questions regarding Business Objects, the import of external services and the development of application services.
As I understood there are two ways to provide business functionality for composite applications:
a. Import backend functionality as an external service (e.g. BAPI, RFC) at the CAF, build the application service which can be used as a callable object for UIs or the GPs
b. Develop a local Business Object (in CAF) providing the business logic, create the application service which again can be used as a callable object. Furthermore the application service can be exposed as a Web Service (external service).
My questions:
1. When is it appropriate to to import external services in stead of developing local BOs?
2. Under what conditions is it advisable to (solely) develop local BOs?
3. What are the advantages / disadvantages regarding the reusability of the services (in option a and b)?
Note: We are developing on NetWeaver 2004s.
Please let me know, if you need more information to answer the questions!
Thanks for your advice in advance,
Regards,
Ivonne

Hi Ivonne,
first of all, the CAF Business Objects (BOs) itself don't contain any business logic, they're basically just local database tables (with some CRUD services on top).
Business logic is implemented in Application Services (AS).
Now, regarding local BO's vs. external services, it depends on your use case. If the data is already available somewhere in your backend system it makes sense to use external services. For instance you wouldn't want to store business partners all over different composites. For data that is specific to your composite (in particular configuration, customizing etc.) and not likely to be reused by other applications you should use local BOs.
Accessing local BO's is also much faster than calling external services.
You can do reuse in both scenarios, since the CAF services can be exposed as web services.
