You should be able to use either of the following methods of JList: setSelectedIndex(defaultIndex); or setSelectedValue(defaultObject, shouldScroll);Is one of these what you are looking for?

  • Selected item in a JList - Clear selection after mouse click

    Hello:
    I'm developing a Java GUI application which uses some JLists. I've seen that, when an item of the JList is selected and you click the mouse another time in the same selected item, the selection does not "disappear". Now, the only way I know to do this is tho press Control + click in the selected item.
    I would like that, when I click to the selected item of a list, the selection disappears.
    How can I solve that?
    Lots of thanks for your help.

    add a MouseListener to the list
    in mouseReleased (note: Released), get the selected index
    compare to previous selection - if the same, list.clearSelection()
    if you clear the selection, you'll need to reset the 'previous selection' variable

  • Key pressed in Jlist and selecting the item of key list accordingly

    Hi,
    I have a JList with the items in sorted order.Now I want that if a person presses any key (say K) then the first item starting with K should be selected.Hmmm I can do it by addding a key listener to the list and cheking all the items in the list ,by traversing through the whole lenght of JList and selecting the item if it starts with the character of the key pressed.
    But i was thinking if there is any better way to do that?
    Regards Amin

    see bugid: 4654916 - it does say that the the
    scrolling for the JList should now work with keyboard
    selection.I have the same problem. Thanx for the hint with the bugid. Saw a good workaround there with a simple subclass of JList. Works for me although it is annoying to subclass JList all the time. The bug seems not to be fixed in the 1.4.1 JDK.

  • Programatically Select an Item in a JList

    Hi,
    I need to do this: Programmatically select an item in a JList.
    JList.selectItem(0) will select the item 0 in the model but it will NOT visually highlight the selected item in the list.
    Neither will ensureIndexIsVisible(0),
    I need to automatically select and item in a list (highlight that item as well)
    As if someone has clicked on that item with the mouse.. however they haven't you see, my program has done it, programatically.

  • How to  move items from one JList to other

    Can u pls help me out to implement this(I m using Netbeans 5.5):
    I want to move items from one JList to other thru a ADD button placed between JLists, I am able to add element on Right side JList but as soon as compiler encounter removeElementAt() it throws Array Index Out of Bound Exception
    and if I use
    removeElement() it removes all items from left side JList and returns value false.
    Pls have a look at this code:

    The getSelectedValues(...) method returns and ARRAY of OBJECTS. You have to loop through the array to get each object separately:
    Object[] values = privilegesList.getSelectedValues();
    for (int j = 0; j < values.length; j++)
    System.out.println ( values[j].toString() );

    Data stored in these tables is different. If Oracle says that there's no record that satisfies the WHERE condition, why do you think that it lies? It is too stupid to do that.
    Therefore, you need to handle the exception. There are several ways to do it. Here are some of them.
    The first one is the most obvious - EXCEPTION handling section.
    DECLARE
      default_value VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
      SELECT ISID INTO default_value
        FROM USER_TBL
        WHERE UPPER(ISID) = UPPER(:APP_USER);
      RETURN default_value;
    EXCEPTION
      WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
        RETURN (null);  -- or whatever you find appropriate
    END;Another one is to use aggregate function (MAX is a good choice) as it won't return NO-DATA-FOUND, but NULL:
    DECLARE
      default_value VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
      SELECT MAX(ISID) INTO default_value
        FROM USER_TBL
        WHERE UPPER(ISID) = UPPER(:APP_USER);
      RETURN default_value;
    END;

  • Remove default pinned items from taskbar with gpo/p

    I have created a custom windows 7 pro image through audit mode and then sysprepped it.  Upon new user login, I notice that the three default taskbar items (IE, WMP, Explorer) are still there.  How can I get rid of these with a gpo/p?
    And yes, the CopyProfile tag is set to true in my sysprep.xml file.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    As far as I know, there is a Group Policy setting to change the Pin behavior.
    User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Remove pinned programs from the taskbar
    The pinned item information are saved in the following locations:
    File System:
    %APPDATA%\\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
    Registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband]
    Hope this helps. Thanks.
    Dale
    No Dale, that does not help me.  If I enable that gpo, it will prevent users from pinning items to the taskbar, we need our users to have that ability.
    And if you delete the .lnk files from
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband]
      it does not remove them from the taskbar, actually all it does is make it an unusable shortcut with no target.
    And there is nothing in that registry key that is useful.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Automatically scrolling to an item in a JList

    Hi all,
    i have several jlists with about 30 - 50 items and i would like to take the user directly to an item in the list as he enters characters that match a list item. Are there any existing interfaces with this behaviour? If not, has anyone written something similar to this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Linzie,
    the following code will automatically scroll the JList to the item entered in the JTextField:public class X extends JApplet {

              String[] items = new String[50]; //test items (format: item XX)

              final JList lst = new JList(items);
              final JScrollPane scroll = new JScrollPane(lst);
              Container c = getContentPane();
              c.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
              final JTextField text = new JTextField(20);
              text.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        String s = text.getText();
                        try {
                        int val = Integer.parseInt(s.substring(s.lastIndexOf(' ')+1, s.length()));
                        //this automatically scrolls to show
                        //the required cell of the JList
                        scroll.getVerticalScrollBar().setValue(val * CELL_HEIGHT);
                        lst.setSelectedIndex(val);
                        } catch(NumberFormatException ex) {
              c.add(text, BorderLayout.NORTH);

    The default publication items created on install are the 6 seen when a new client is built or complete refresh
    PI_APP_PUB_PROPERTIES - the application/publication
    C$SEQ_CLIENTS_PI - sequences for the client
    C$SCRIPTS - DDL scripts executed on build
    C$RESOURCES - not sure what this is, but i think it is stored procedures etc.
    C$ALL_SEQUENCES - i think this related to auto incremented columns, but never seen it used
    C$ALL_INDEXES_Q - the index definitions for the publication items

    Hi!
    You can set list "initial value" using When-Create-Record trigger.
    I.g.
    :<Block_name>.<list_item_name> := Get_List_Element_Value('<Block_name>.<list_item_name>', 1);
