C has no arrays! (on the heap)

CC can't do this?
int iary[] = (int[])iary_padr
Who could imagine such a thing, if it didn't exist already? K&R's "stdc" appendix 6.8.2 iterates some drivel about static initializers, proposing a convenient (sic) workaround (sic) for dynamic memory
iary[cc] <==> *(iary_padr+cc)
This situation is plainly absurd. Someone has (very successfully) played a hideous joke on this language, and to the great benefit of their resume. One is left to replace clean array syntax with bug-prone, unreadable pointer arithmetic? what's the compiler for?
the compiler helps one to avoid bugs by writing simpler expressions than available in a lower level language (asm).
"As simple as possible, but no simpler." Which in this case means having array syntax, rather than not.
Originally, "int[]" was syntactically and semantically identical to "int*" in parameter passing. This is C. We need to recognize that the standardizers have persued another language -- a higher level language, and one which would not have have pointers, ultimately, but some handle or object concept.
How can the C programming language not be able to access the heap using array syntax?
Sun folks need to JUST SAY NO to this absurdity. it necessarily won't break any code anywhere if CC were to allow array casts. If standardizers break the language, ignore them! No one needs this nonsensical jibberish for anything.

The problem is in the delimiters in your text file. By default, Read From Spreadsheet File.vi expects a tab delimited file. You can specify a delimiter (like a space), but Read From Spreadsheet File.vi has a problem with repeated delimiters: if you specify a single space as a delimiter and Read From Spreadsheet File.vi finds two spaces back-to-back, it stops reading that line. Your file (as I got it from your earlier post) is delimited by 4 spaces.
Here are some of your choices to fix your problem.
    1. Change the source file to a tab delimited file. Your VI will then run as is.
    2. Change the source file to be delimited by a single space (rather than 4), then wire a string constant containing one space to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi.
    3. Wire a string constant containing 4 spaces to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi. Then your text file will run as is.
Depending on where your text file comes from (see more comments below), I'd vote for choice 1: a tab delimited text file. It's the most common text output of spreadsheet programs.
Comments for choices 1 and 2: Where does the text file come from? Is it automatically generated or manually generated? Will it be generated multiple times or just once? If it's manually generated or generated just once, you can use any text editor to change 4 spaces to a tab or to a single space. Note: if you want to change it to a tab delimited file, you can't enter a tab directly into a box in the search & replace dialog of many programs like notepad, but you can do a cut and paste. Before you start your search and replace (just in the text window of the editor), press tab. A tab character will be entered. Press Shift-LeftArrow (not Backspace) to highlight the tab character. Press Ctrl-X to cut the tab character. Start your search and replace (Ctrl-H in notepad in Windows 2000). Click into the Find What box. Enter four spaces. Click into the Replace With box. Press Ctrl-V to paste the tab character. And another thing: older versions of notepad don't have search and replace. Use any editor or word processor that does.

  • ColdFusion 11: allowedextforinclude functionality has changed. But the docs haven't been

    G'day:
I am reposting this from my blog ("ColdFusion 11: allowedextforinclude functionality has changed. But the docs haven't been") at the suggestion of Adobe support:
@dacCfml@ColdFusionCan you post your queries athttp://t.co/8UF4uCajTCfor all cfclient and mobile queries.— Anit Kumar Panda (@anitkumar85)April 29, 2014
This particular question is not regarding <cfclient>, hence posting it on the regular forum, not on the mobile-specific one as Anit suggested. I have edited this in places to remove language that will be deemed inappropriate by the censors here. Changes I have made are in [square brackets]. The forums software here has broken some of the styling, but so be it.
    G'day:
Remember this one: "ColdFusion 11: preventing files from being included? [WTH], Adobe?". I can confirm this verymoderatelyslightly contentious feature has been changed in ColdFusion 11, but the docs have not been updated to reflect the change.
The issue is summarised thus (from the article linked-to above):
[...]out of the box ColdFusion 11 will only allow the inclusion of CFML and HTML files. Why? They cite "for security reasons". Here's a quote (posted in the bugtracker, originally from the pre-release forums):
"Vamseekrishna Manneboina: Yes, this was done as part of a security measure. You can now only include CFM/CFML files by default. You can specify additional extensions via a property called allowedextforinclude in neo-runtime.xml. By default, HTM and HTML file extensions are already added to this list/property, thereby allowing for inclusion of HTM and HTML files too by default."
OK, I disagree there's merit in this, some others agree, others disagree. But... so be it. I actually thought - if I was in a charitable mood - that the people that were "for" this change made a reasonable case for its inclusion, so - whilst not agreeing with them - I was content to just shrug and go "yeah, oh well".
Now this feature is still in the docs: "New in ColdFusion 11 - Restrictions", but this is not the way it now works. Initially I thought it had been removed completely (and I am now in the midst of retooling this article from saying that... as I only worked out what was going on 2/3rds of the way through writing it).
I did a secure install the other day, and one of the first things I tested was this:
    <!---test.cfm---> <cfset message = "before"> <cfoutput> #message#<br> <cfinclude template="code.inc"> <cfset message = "after"> #message#<br> </cfoutput>
    <!--- code.inc ---> <cfset message="within"> <cfoutput> #message#<br> </cfoutput>
And this all runs fine, as one would expect:
    before
    within
    after
Next I checked neo-runtime.xml to see if the settings had been augmented to switch this off by default: but I'm buggered if I can see any reference to it anywhere.
So I then checked ColdFusion Administrator to see if there was any hint of it there, as this was one of the things Adobe said they were going to do in their solution to this. And there it is:
So by default now, anything is allowed. I figured I must have missed the setting in neo-runtime.xml, so changed the setting to "FOOBAR" so I could easily spot it, and there it is down @ /wddxPacket/data/array/*[16]/var[@name="compileextforinclude"] in neo-runtime.xml:
    <var name="compileextforinclude">    <string>FOOBAR</string> </var>
And - having changed it back to something sensible: CFM, then the feature now "works":
    before
    #message#
    after
However this is probably a worse security hole than the one they were trying to fix! It looks OK when looking at the render in the browser, but look at the actual raw mark-up:
    before<br> <cfset message="within"> <cfoutput> #message#<br> </cfoutput> after<br>
We have unparsed CFML source code sent to the browser. This is awful. What if someone switches this on, and doesn't spot one of their old includes which has less-than-trivial CFML in it? It's now publicly accessible. Adobe have created a feature which has the possibility to leak source code to the outside world. How is that a security feature?
Also interesting is that with the super-secure profile installed, this is still off by default? I would have thought it'd be on in this case?
I still don't think this feature has been implemented properly, and it all still points even more to the fact the Adobe ColdFusion bods don't really know what they're doing.
Anyway, I'll nudge Adobe to at least get the docs sorted out.
    Time for work (3min ago)...
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
Regarding "What if someone switches this on, and doesn't spot one of their old includes which has less-than-trivial CFML in it?", yeah I agree that'd be a problem.  Hmm, maybe both this.allowedextforinclude *and* this.compileextforinclude should've been supported (instead of replacing the former w/ the latter as was done)?  Example:
    this.compileextforinclude="cfm,cfml,inc";
    this.allowedextforinclude="cfm,cfml,inc,txt";
That way an exception could be thrown if cf|included file's extension wasn't in the this.allowedextforinclude list.
Perhaps the above could be shortened to:
    this.compileextforinclude="cfm,cfml,inc";
this.allowedextforinclude="txt";//implicitly includes * from this.compileextforinclude (since -compile- implies -allowed-)
    Dunno if that'd be confusing.
    Anyhow, just some thoughts..
    Thanks!,
    -Aaron

  • Defining xsd and assiging an array to the output variable in a BPELprocess

I have created a BPEL application in which a web service has been invoked which returns an array. If the array has a fixed size i am able to define the XSD,but what if the array does not have a fixed size. How should i define the xsd in this case,i mean how should the output node be defined. Also how can i assign the array returned by the webservice to the Output variable using the assign activity.

    Hi,
What you could do is set the second step to loop.
Then use as one of the parameters to VI YY the string array using RunState.LoopIndex as the array index.
    eg. Locals.MyStringArray[RunState.LoopIndex]
    Hope this helps

  • Code for how to read an integer array from the command prompt...

    hello,
Could anyone give me the code for how to read an integer array from the command prompt...its very urgent!..

If you are using a recent version of Java (5 or later) you can use Scanner:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/util/Scanner.html
That page has some example code on it, too.

  • How to increase the Heap space of Jdeveloper for about more than 512 MB?

When starting JDeveloper, the application within JDeveloper is throwing the error message:
"could not reserve enough space for object heap"
and a windows popup with the following error message:
"Unable to create an instance of the Java Virtual Machine Located at path: ..\..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll "
To resolve these issues, i know that adding the following in ide.conf , jdev.conf will help.
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=512M
    AddVMOption -Xmx512M
    AddVMOption -Xms512M
I have got 10 GB of RAM in my desktop machine and virtual memory of 15 GB (page size). I am not able to increse the heap space of Jdeveloper for about more than 512MB. This is really frustrating..I had to restart my jdevloper after 3 or 4 deployments.....Has anyone tried success in increasing the heap space in jdeveloper for about 2 GB?
    Regards
    Prasath.C

Yes, i know that -XX:MaxPermSize has nothing to do with Heap Memory. I Just pasted all my configuration settings to know if some thing or the other has caused the issue.... After hearing few people who increased the heap space to more than 512m , i played with those settings again and figured out few things...Mine is Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4, 64 bit Windows 7 environment, 64 bit Java/ JDK.
First, i was deceived by one suggestion in forum that, keeping max and min heap memory to same size always will yield in good performance...From that time on wards, i was always increasing both and was never able to move more than 512m..But this time, i kept the min memory as constand and kept on changing the max memory ..
    Jdev.conf
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=512M
AddVMOption -Xmx972M (I was never able to increase more than this size, though i have around 10GB RAM, if not Jdev doesnt startup)
    AddVMOption -Xms512M
    Ide.conf
AddVMOption -Xmx2048M (here i was able to increase)
    AddVMOption -Xms512M
But even then, i was not seeing my changed settings at the time of deployment...
    starting weblogic with Java version:
    java version "1.6.0_21"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_21-b51)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 17.0-b17, mixed mode)
    Starting WLS with line:
    C:\Oracle\MIDDLE~1\JDK160~1\bin\java -client -Xms512m -Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -Dweblogic.Name=DefaultServer ..........
    Then i changed again into
    setDomainEnv.cmd of my default domain
    set USER_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
Then i stared my deployment...this time i could see a real boost in deployment...and my page was launched in a fraction of minute..
    tarting weblogic with Java version:
    java version "1.6.0_21"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_21-b51)

  • How to integrate an Array with the other Array???

    Hi guys,
I have such a problem that need your help!!
I have two columns, the first column is Time (x): 1, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7, 1.8... which is uneven array.
    The second column is Y :  3, 5, 7, 8....
X and Y have the same length, but the x is uneven. Now I want to do the integration of Y on x. When I use the uneven numeric integration, I found that the integration result is only one value instead of an array. But what I need is the third column which shows the integration results C. So I could plot C against x, and know how the integration goes.
Does anyone has such an experience, thanks a lot!
Basically, what I need is just like the integration what the Origin Pro does.

  • How to increase the heap size of the container in whioch BPEL is running ?

    Hi All,
I recently raised an SR they have asked me to do the following,
Can you please try and start the container running the BPEL process with max
heap space (-Xmx) of 2 GB and the eden space (-Xmn) at about 60% of 1228m and
the option -XX:+AggressiveHeap set. (even though this option is recommended for
    multi processor machines say 4)
can anyone kindly explain me how to increase the Heap size and Eden size of BPEL container ?
    Thank You

  • 11g Preview 4: Where is the Heap Window?

I can't seem to access/see the Heap Window for Heap debugging.
    Has it healed up?
    Thanks.

Are you talking about the memory heap window? - This is not in 11 since we don't use the OJVM anymore.
Instead you might want to check the new memory profiler.

  • How to make room in the "heap zone"?

I have made a video project for school with imovie 9.0.4, and it is only 6 and a half minutes long. It is due tomorrow, and whenever I try to finalize, share, post to youtube, or make a DVD, i keep getting the error "not enough space in heap zone". How do I make room? I really need to fix this.

This is maddening for many people, and what's worse is that you're not told of this supposed lack of room in the 'heap zone' until quite a bit of time has elapsed (it happens to me during 'Finalize'). I mean, if I don't have enough room in this mysterious & arcane 'Heap Zone,' tell me right away; not a half-hour into it. People have deadlines; they need to complete their projects. Or, they simply need to get to sleep!
Like with other people, the supposed 'fixes' mentioned above aren't fixes at all. This 'Heap Zone' error message is SO 'Windows-like.' It would be 'Apple-like' if you could go to the System Preferences and instantly make this 'Heap Zone' bigger.
iMovie is a very good and well-integrated application...except for this.

  • Are java byte[] stored on the heap?

are java byte[] stored on the heap?
If not, How can I clear a byte[]?
For example in C, I could simply put the '\0' at
    the zeroth index.
    Please help.
    hm

Yes, byte[] objects are stored on the heap. In Java, all objects are stored on the heap, all arrays are objects, and byte[] is an array.
You seem to be equating byte[] with a C-style string. That kind of thinking will get you into all kinds of trouble in Java. Strings in Java are sequences of Unicode characters. Byte arrays can be converted to and from Strings using encodings such as UTF-8.

  • Re-using the same array on the same page later

i am using an array to write values to a text file, is there a way to re-use that same array on the same page... after the values has been writen to a file, clear the values and use it again(no need to re-size it), just use it again....

Thanks. I have a text box that takes a project id and calls a method that gets the data from db and stores it in a vector than i am looping throught the vector and assiging the values to an array and writing each value to a text file. i want to add another text field on there and see if the user wants to pass another project id (passing two) so i have to re-use the arrays again if the text box is not null. don't i need to re-define the arrays again to use them?

  • Setting the heap size

    Hi all,
I wanted to ask you about setting the heap size value.
How we can calculate the heap size?
I had problems with the max heap size in my application.
So I increased the max value to 2048 MB, but I am afraid that
the same error may come up again some time depending upon the
    usage.
So how I can find, say for a server having 2 GB RAM,
how much heap size I should give? I read that there is no defined
formula to calculate this. But I wanted to get the best way of doing it.
    Please advise,
    Sandeep

As has already been said, you probably have a leak. However, when trying to gauge the maximum heap you can (not should, but can) use you have to take into account what the server is doing, and its operating system. You do not want your JVM to page. So, for a 2GB server, with no other app on it, I think the "usual" is something like 75% max? Though I really wouldn't take my word for it...it's not my field.

  • Imovie 11 Can't Export Movies NOT ENOUGH ROOM IN THE HEAP ZONE!

I have plenty of space on my hard drive, no other programs are running, and the video being exported is only 6 minutes and 57 seconds long.
I am working on a short film and 90% of the time that I try and export it in 720 I get an error, because there is not enough room in the heap zone. Then after I restart the computer if I am lucky I can get it to export 1 out of 10 trys. It has nothing to do with the title I give the video.
I need the video exported in 1080, but it gives me the same error EVERY TIME! Even when I export to quicktime and use various settings I keep getting the same heap zone error. What is the deal!?! I have exported an hour long documentary and didn't have this problem. I erased all my previous projects and events and still I get this error
    UNABLE TO EXPORT MOVIE
The movie could not be exported because an error occurred. (Not enough room in the heap zone /)
    HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!

I have the same problem when trying to export a 720P movie to iTunes.  Reboot did not help nor did renaming the project.  I have an older MacPro with dual 3.0s, 11 Gb Ram and slightly less than 1Tb free space on the boot drive.  This is a software issue, not a hardware problem.  Apple please fix the myriad of problems with iMovie 11.   My productivity has ground to a halt with my 4 month old iLife Software.  How did this software ever pass muster!!!!!  I can't believe anyone would purchase the new version of Final Cut given the horrible product you've included with the last iLife Set.  This is an example of why I left the Microsoft Windows community.  SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!   I usually create 4 to 5 movies a month for the flying community I live in.  I have completed one since January, and it was a mess due to software glitches.   My attempt to re-render an old iMovie 9 creation has been met with failure.  I have projects backing up and really have no desire to finish them or create others as iMovie 11 is no longer fun since it is broken.   I'm tired of iPhoto 11 and iMovie crashing or not working and the reason for spending more on an Apple product no longer exists.  Outdated expensive hardware and buggy software.   Time to sell my APPL stock like Bob Mansfield,  You're ignoring your core supporters and are living off the hype of the iPhone/iPad.  The poor economy has allowed your "halo effect" to endure many recent short-comings - (Mobile Me (how slow and expensive can it be to stream a personal home movie - but don't worry you don't need Blu-Ray)), Mail (why do I keep getting duplicate emails in my drafts folder? and why is it always losing my password - just like Mail on my iPhone), Never providing a stable video card for 2006 Mac Pros, Crippled iPhone 4 for Verizon, no iPad Flash support, iLife Crapware)............where's the Tylenol!!!!!   I need it since I promised an iMovie project for a friend's memorial that I am now unable to deliver.
