Cache tag exceptions and deadlocks

          Weblogic 6.1 sp2 on W2K and Solaris
          If an un-caught Exception is produced from code with-in a cache tag, then the
          cache for that page will become locked until server restart
          This can be tested by throwing an Execption and displaying (using a seperate page)
          all objects in the application, the cache with the Exception will be displayed
          as xxx.lock
          This can be avioded by catching all Exceptions

          These are logical sub-keys you can use to distinguish two tags that would
          otherwise resolve to the same cached value. It helps prevent "overloading"
          the cache name with disjoint information needed to distinguish cache
          entries.
          For instance, our application supports multiple languages and uses a page
          variable called "language". Assume we want to cache the computed contents
          of a select element according to the user's language:
          <wl:cache name="selectValues_foobar" key="page.language" timeout="30m">
          [code to compute select values omitted]
          </wl:cache>
          This lets us use one name to describe the particular dataset while still
          allowing for independently cached values for differents values of
          "language".

    Give iPhoto a look at for creating the slideshow.  It's easy to assemble the photos in an album in iPhoto, put them in the order you want and then make a slideshow of them.  You can select from various themes and transitions between slides and add music from your iTunes library.
    When you have the slidshow as you want use the Export button at the bottom of the iPhoto window and export with Size = Medium or Large.
    Save the resulting Quicktime movie file in your Movies folder.
    Next, open iDVD, choose your theme and drag the QT movie file into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
    Then follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
    Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
    To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
    Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Tag messages and SQLException

    hello,
    i would like to throw exceptions from my beans class and show the error message on the screen like the using of the tage <h:messages>.
    When an sqlexception occured, my message error is displayed but not on my jsf page but on a awful white page.
    Thx for ur help !

    You have to catch the exception and then add it to The Messages.
    Something like this:
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage(componentId,
    new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR,
    errorMessage,
    errorMessage));

  • Can you catch form has expired exception and reload page?

    I have a cfcalendar wrapped with cfform, every first time start the application, it either is empty or give me form data as expired message.
    I have tried to set cfform timeout to a 100 or 200 seconds, but if you close the application and next time open it (if after the timeout limits) it shows the form data has expired message again. If I don't set or set it to 0, then the next time I open the browser, it give me an empty form page.
    So I wonder if there is a way to catch that exception, and then make it reload the page?
    Any ideals to solve the problem.

    Thanks,

    The first thing I would do would be to use an html form instead of flash.  The second would be to add a submit button.  On change events are very frustrating if you don't make the correct selection on your first attempt.

  • Disk cache javascript functions and images

    Hi,
    How can I force client browsers of my web application to cache the images and other javascript entities like css, functions, js files, etc.
    By default it is not caching, though it should have. I have not written any code saying not to cache. Any help.
    Environment : Tomcat server - java beans - jsp [struts framework]
    In Netscape 7 if I say 'page view' it shows images and media files of my applications are not cached. Thats why application is really slow. If I compare this to some other web application which is fast, I see that media files, js files and images gets 'DISK CACHED'.]
    Can anyone explain me what is disk cache and how to get it disk cached?
    Thanks,
    sunil

    Thanks. I now understand whats the concept of disk cache.
    But after lot of analysis also my problem still remains the same. Just that there are some patterns available.
    I have some images in my own application. I also have some images which reference another site [application]. Interestingly all images which reside in my appication are not getting cached. All image which I refer into other site are getting cached. Can anyone makeout anything from this?
    I looked into META tag generated for resulting htmls. But they dint have anything which says browser not to cache.
    Can anyone list any java/jsp/html instructions which can tell browser not to cache stuff.
    Or more importantly is there any setting or instruction or command which I can write in my java/jsp/html which can override any such setting done.
    Thanks,
    Sunil

  • Exception Handling with Custom Tags/Exceptions

    Hello all --
              I'm looking for some guidance in handling Custom errors in my app. I can't
              seem to find the message string of my custom exception when trying to call
              my JSP Error page. I'm consistently getting:
              javax.servlet.jsp.JspTagException: runtime failure in custom tag
              'CalendarHandler' .
              I am using custom JSP tag libraries to process logic on my EJBs. When I
              reach an error in business logic I raise a custom exception and propogate
              this back up to doStartTag:

              cp.init(pageContext.getServletContext(), pageContext.getSession());
              HttpServletRequest req = (HttpServletRequest)pageContext.getRequest();
              cp.processRequest(req, eventAction );
              } catch (CalendarException ce) {
              throw new JspException(ce.getMessage());
              return SKIP_BODY;
              Then, in my JSP, I am enclosing the TagHandler in a try...catch block; I
              can't catch CalendarException because it is Throwable and conflicts with
              JspException.
              <% try { %>

  • Cache Synchronization Exception Handling

    I am setting up cache synchronization on WebLogic using JMS. I am looking into writing an exception handler to handle cache synchronization exceptions. The following statement in the documentation caught my attention:
    “As mentioned above, the TopLink cache does not begin the merge or update process until the database transaction has already been committed. This is quite beneficial in that it avoids letting uncommitted data into the shared cache, but should be recognized where transactional synchronization is considered. In cases where a merge may have failed there is no way to roll back the changes made to the database (although it is questionable whether this would be a good idea in any case). As a consequence, failures during remote merging can leave the cache in an inconsistent state. This makes it important to handle any errors that occur by performing cache normalization actions, such as resetting the cache, or even the server.”
    Suppose we have two app server instances, A and B. Instance A commits a change and sends the update notification to instance B. The merge fails on instance B with an optimistic lock exception.
    - I assume that a CacheSynchronizationException will be thrown. Will it be thrown on instance A, B, or both?
    - At this point which cache is inconsistent; A, B, or both?
    - The documentation suggests resetting the cache, but this seems a rather severe way of dealing with the problem. Is it feasible / effective to just refresh the objects in the change set of the CacheSynchronizationException?
    This is a simple exception handler. On receiving a CacheSynchronizationException it resets the cache and re-throws the exception.
    class ToplinkExceptionHandler implements ExceptionHandler{
         public Object handleException(RuntimeException exception) throws DatabaseException{
              if(exception instanceof CacheSynchronizationException){){
                   myServerSession.initializeAllIdentityMaps();
                   throw exception;
              }else{
                   throw exception;
    - Is this approach effective?
    - Once the cache is reset should the exception be re-thrown or should I consider it handled and swallow it? If I do swallow it what should the method return?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    I had to fix a few errors (in our code) before getting it working. Since I have multiple sessions, I had to specify different multicast ports (actually I used a different multicast address itself) for each of the sessions. I was not setting the announcement delay on one of the sesssions and that was why it was announcing immediately upon coming up. Also I had to explicitly set asynchronous to false because it is true by default.
    BTW, we are not using CMP (entity beans) rather Java Objects. Our deployment has two Apache/Tomcat machines and two WebLogic machines. The WebLogic servers are in a round-robin cluster. The cache synchronization seems to be working fine for this configuration.
    Thanks.

  • Synchronization bug in Cache Tag

    We have encountered what we believe to be a serious synchronization bug in
              the Cache Tag implementation of WL 5.1.0 SP6, under Windows NT 4, using
              HotSpot Server VM 2.0. (It also happens when we use the classic VM with the
              "-classic" option.) It seems like some kind of problem with a global lock
              on the underlying cache. The problem manifests when two or more browser
              clients attempt to access a JSP with a cache tag, where the cached value has
              not yet been computed. If the system is busy computing the contents of the
              tag when the second request arrives, no result is ever returned to either
              client and no further cache tag values (even on unrelated pages) are
              returned until the server is restarted.
              Here is a very simple tag class that illustrates the problem. It simply
              pauses five seconds and then prints the end time.
              package com.splwg.web.services;
              import java.io.IOException;
              import javax.servlet.jsp.JspException;
              import javax.servlet.jsp.JspWriter;
              import javax.servlet.jsp.PageContext;
              import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.TagSupport;
              public class TestTag extends TagSupport {
              public int doStartTag() throws JspException {
              // Pause 5 seconds
              long start = System.currentTimeMillis();
              long end = start + 5000;
              while (System.currentTimeMillis() < end) {
              JspWriter out = pageContext.getOut();
              try {
              out.print("Done - " + end);
              } catch (IOException e) {
              return SKIP_BODY;
              Here is a JSP page to drive it:
              <%@ taglib uri="taglib.tld" prefix="wl"%>
              <%@ taglib uri="test.tld" prefix="test"%>
              <html><head><title>Test tag</title></head>
              <body>
              <wl:cache timeout="20s">
              <test:test/>
              </wl:cache>
              </body>
              </html>
              And here is the test.tld file:
              <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
              <!DOCTYPE taglib
              PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD JSP Tag Library 1.1//EN"
              "http://java.sun.com/j2ee/dtds/web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd">
              <taglib>
              <tlibversion>1.0</tlibversion>
              <jspversion>1.1</jspversion>
              <shortname>test</shortname>
              <tag>
              <name>test</name>
              <tagclass>com.splwg.web.services.TestTag</tagclass>
              </tag>
              </taglib>
              To manifest the problem, start a fresh instance of WebLogic and have two
              browsers (nearly) simultaneously attempt to access the page. The server
              never returns to either browser, and no other page that contains a cache tag
              will return. However, WebLogic is not dead; static pages or JSP files
              without cache tags still work.
              The problem will not manifest once the cache is safely loaded, e.g. by
              having only one client make the initial access (in this case the second
              client cannot attempt to access the JSP for five seconds). Further, we
              observe that once the cache value has gone stale, the first new request
              forces a re-read, but other concurrent requests receive the previously
              cached value. Clearly this technique doesn't work when the cached value has
              not yet been populated, such as when the server has just been started.
              Has anyone else seen this problem?

    Before you put in that effort...
    This is experimental so do it with a copy of the project.
    With the copy project closed, delete the eHlpDhtm.js and the
    projectname.pss file.
    Copy the eHlpDhtm.js from the new project you created. Open
    the project the the pss will get rebuilt.
    No scientific reason for doing that, just something that is
    minimal effort and worth a try.
    If it fails, go back to the recreation plan! Do let us know
    if it does work.

    My assistant and I are using two Lightrooms (i.e. two serial numbers) and need to share between our two computers. I provide originals to her onto a flash drive. She tags them and returns them to me. I then copy the photos from her flash drive onto my computer and load them in my LR. The photos appear but witthout any editing or tagging. We need to be able to have her working on the photos on her computer with her copy of LR and me on my computer with my version of LR being able to access what is already tagged and given back to me. This seems hard. We need advice on if it is at all possible to have two computers simultaneously working on LR . I bought her her own version because I was told at the time of purchasing that that was the only way to share. Please advise urgently! Thanks.

    Sounds like your assistant isn't instructing Lightroom to write the tagging and editing to the files themselves, so wehn the files return to you, they don't have editing and tagging information. She need to select the photos in Lightroom and then Ctrl-S (Cmd-S on Mac). Or alternatively turn on the option to autmoatically write this information to the files.
    If you are using RAW photos, then this information will be written to a sidecar XMP file, and your assistant must provide you with the sidecar file. If these photos are not RAW photos, then the information is written directly into the photo file itself.
    Lightroom wasn't designed to be a multi-user program, and so it is truly not possible to have two people working on the same catalog at once. The way you are doing things, as modified above, is probably the way to go.
    As an alternative, you can transfer (portions of) catalogs as well as photos back and forth and then all of these issues disappear, but a catalog might be rather large for a flash drive (or maybe not, it depends)

  • Bookmarks sync erase new tags, labels and description on former synchronized bookmarks

    hello,
    on firefox 32.0.3
    bookmarks synchronisation erase recent tags, labels and description during the sync.
    this happen on already sync bookmarks on which we add some tags, labels and description, but not on new ones.
    no error message when logging or unlogging.
    thanks in advance
    best regards

    Hi ebntv,
    Thank you for your question, I understand that after a recent sync to your sync account that there are Recent Tags, descriptions and labels missing. However it is only the older Bookmarks that are affected.
    I have attached two screenshots to clarify to make sure I understand the feature that is affected:
    # The first has the default recent tags and list of all tags.
    # the second is an older bookmark visited 32 times that has all of the details after a sync.(However it never had a description or keyword)
    Which information is missing exactly?
