Cal Constant 1 on an SXCI-1102. How many bits?

National Instruments documentation says "Cal Constant Out 1 (stored in the EEPROM of an SCXI-1102) is the binary zero offset". Therefore, I understand that it is a BINARY value. But, how many bits is that binary value. It could not possibly be the number of bits of my data acquisition card, because the constants in the Factory EEPROM Area are valid whether I use a 12-bit or a 16-bit DAQ Card. I will very much appreciate an answer.

Hey Don,
The size of the EEPROM area is 64-bits for each Cal Constant. This allows for double precision floating point number to be used, which is much higher than the resolution on 12 or 16-bit DAQ devices. The device subtracts the offset from the actual voltage, not the 12 or 16-bit binary number returned from the ADC.
I hope this helps out.

    1. How many bits are images taken from a camera with a proprietary format? Are they 12 bit or 16?

    Thank you.
    Jeff Schewe has answered the question about bit depth of the raw capture, but one must realize that noise in the image limits the effective bit depth of the capture, since it does not make sense to quantify the signal from the sensor in steps finer than the level of noise in the image. These considerations are discussed in an excellent article by Emil Martinec:
    http://theory.uchicago.edu/~ejm/pix/20d/tests/noise/noise-p3.html#bitdepth
    Some of the newer high end dSLRs offer 14 bit quantization, but the gain in levels is often negligible because of noise. P & S cameras are much noisier than high end dSLRs and their effective bit depth in terms of the number of actual levels that can be perceived in the rendered image is open to question. There is a loss of levels when one goes from a linear raw space to a gamma encoded space such as Adobe RGB. Bruce Lindbloom's levels calculator can calculate this loss. The reader should try a few values with the calculator using the bit depth of the camera and a gamma of one and a gamma of 2.2 for the aRGB. With Photoshop, use a bit depth of 8 or 15, since Adobe uses a bit depth of 8 or 15 in Photoshop, effectively halving the number of levels over what could be obtained with full 16 bit output. However, for current cameras, this is of no significance.

  • How many bits (64 or 32) has the macbook pro 13" 2012

    I am new to mac and I would likie to know how many bit it has because i want to run adobe after effect
    thanks !
    mathieu

    You can boot into 32-bit or 64-bit mode and you can run applications that are both 32 and 64 bit. Adobe After Effects (in the newest version, at least) will allow you to run it in 64-bit mode.
    Hope this helps,

  • Portege M300 - How many bit are supported by LBA

    Hello,
    Does someone know how many bit are supported by LBA? Has it 48 bit?
    I need to know if I can mount a 120GB Hdd against a 160GB for an important upgrade.
    I can't find this information on toshiba site: are there changelog BIOS somewhere?
    Thank you

    Did you mean the general LBA specification or the ATA interface equipped in M300?
    There are two different spec; 28bit and 48bit.
    I think your M300 supports the original design specifications and it provides only 28bit logical block addressing.
    Therefore in my opinion you will be not able to use bigger then 137GB HDDs

  • How many bits should stills be?

    I want to save images from Photoshop as Tiff files for bringing into FCP. Is there a difference in quality for video between 8, 16 and 32 bit images?
    Thanks.

    stanwelks wrote:
    If there is a difference in quality, why not go to at least 16-bit then?
    In addition to the other things mentioned, FCP does not support layered Photoshop files higher than 8-bit. (You know, when a .psd imports as a sequence)
    While you can (and probably should) create graphics at a higher bit depth, those .psd files will be imported without the benefit of layers. So animation isn't possible from a single file. (And considering how much round-tripping can be involved during the course of a project, that can get old really fast.)

    Macs are 64-bit. But you may wish to skip AV software. It's really not needed.

  • Bayer rg 8-bit - how many bits per pixel am I looking at?

    I'm streaming video with IMAQdx from a GigE Vision camera that does Bayer 8-bit RG, among other formats. I appear to be receiveing 24 bpp from the video stream, though. Does LabView do any conversions on this data that would ramp the size up without me knowing? Or is my camera doing it?

    IMAQdx will generally do some conversion on the various pixel formats sent by the camera to get them into a proper format for a Vision image datatype. For some pixel formats, this may mean swapping endianness, unpacking bits, or shifting the data around.
    For a BayerRG8 format, the camera is sending a 8-bit mono image and the driver is going to (by default) automatically do the Bayer conversion to a color image. Other cameras might expose a pixel format directly of an RGB or YUV format, in which case it is the camera itself doing the bayer conversion before sending it to IMAQdx.
    In this case, you could disable IMAQdx's Bayer decoding (turn the bayer decoding attribute to "Off" rather than "Auto") and get the raw 8-bit mono image if you want. Usually the monochrome image is fairly useless since it has the bayer pattern applied. Some cameras might have a monochrome mode available where they will internally debayer the image, then convert it back to monochrome so that the bayer filter is effectively removed.
    What is your objective you are trying to do here?

  • Changing Cal Constants does not effect Thermocouple readings

    I change the calibration constants using Cal Constant .vi by inputting cal constant 1&2, and write the values to the NI-DAQ memory. And then I sample the corrected channel with a virtual channel, but the values do not change. I verify that the values are correct in the memory by retrieving the values via OpCode 0 and the values are correct in memory. An addition oddity is that when I copy the NI-DAQ memory to the Default Load area the value dont copy over correctly. Any help you could give would be appreciated! I have a SCXI-1102 running LABVIEW 6.1.

    Hi Rob,
    You mentioned that the offset voltage you had to provide in your program changed each time you started the VI, and indicated that this was possibly due to changes in ambient temperature. This would be compensated by the CJC sensor, which is built into your SCC-TC01. Since MAX does not allow you to select the built in CJC Sensor, the SCC may be configured incorrectly, possibly due to the SCC-TC01 being assigned to the incorrect port or some other mistake. You did not mention in your previous post the results of going through the quick start guide and ensuring the configuration is correct.  This would be a helpful trouble shooting step. Since the device is for signal conditioning, if the configuration is off, the resulting data will be off.
    You had also mentioned that you are using the “new” LabVIEW routines. If you are referring to programming with DAQmx instead of Traditional DAQ, this will not be a concern. In MAX, where the test panels are being run, it does not matter if you were using DAQmx or DAQ, since the test panel is looking at the actual hardware.
    I hope that this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions I can clarify or if this solution does not take care of your missing VI issue. Thanks-

  • Why do I get error 10080 with SCXI Cal Constants?

    I'm trying to calibrate a scxi 1126 with a 1327 terminal block, attached to a 6024E PCI board.  7 of the 8 channels are within spec, but one channel is slightly out.  I followed the calibration procedures, but when I went to use the SCXICalConstants.vi, I got the error:
    Error -10080 occurred at SCXI Cal Constant
    Possible reason(s):
    NI-DAQ LV:  The gain or gain adjust is invalid.
    How do I know which gain is invalid (DAQ, SCXI, TB), and how do I figure out the correct value?  I've tried many combinations of what I thought would be valid gains, and I've tried to just read the current calibration constants, all with no success.

    I figured it out.  Apparently the SCXI gain control needed to be set at a value of 0.02.  This corresponds to the frequency range of 250 Hz.  Although I'm not sure why this value works where 0.00125, corresponding to 4KHz did not.

    We have just moved from MobileMe, where we had a 'Family account' (and we each have our own @me.com email addresses) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have an iPad and an iPhone, but with different accounts set up for mail. Mine syncs OK to Cal and Contacts, but hers doesn't. There must be a way! Please help.

    According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account."  You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.

    Hey Guys,
    We have Project Server 2010 running for two years now.
    We are preparing for the true-up yearly exercise with Microsoft to count the nbr of CAL licenses we need.

  • How many SQL CAL for bpc 7.0 Microsoft

    hello
    customer asks how many Microsoft SQL Client Access Licenses he must buy to use SAP BPC 7.0 SP3 Microsoft (100 users).
    As there is not any more direct access from Bpc client to SQL or Analysis services, I think 1 CAL is enough.
    Could tell me if I'm right ?
    Thanks.

    David,
    Don't you think your remark was rather uncharitable? It is true, there are a lot of people trying to mooch off of others' kindness (and as long as there are willing folks complying for whatever reasons, it is not going to change anytime soon), when it comes to hardcore technical details about a product, lot of people are at a loss as to how the things work (yours truly included -  i have worked in SAP space for almost a decade and i couldn't tell you their licensing details - I never needed to do that to discharge my role as a functional consultant). I think Remy did indicate the thinking behind the question which is much more than a lot of folks do when they ask you and others to just e-mail some document etc....
    I am sure you would concur.

  • How many cals do i need?

    Let say i have 300 active directory accounts but only 100 physical users (with heartbeats), how many CALs do i need per user CAl licensing? Also, if i have 300 emails  accounts in exchange 2010 but only 100 physical users, how many exchange CALS do
    i need? And if 5 users leave the company, does the CALS be free up for the next employees?
    Based on my research, i need 100 AD CALS and 100 exchange CALs but i getting conflicting information. Can someone who knows licensing really well confirmed this?
    Thank you.

  • How to know how many rows including headers and footers does subreport has from Main Report

    Hi, we are sturuggling with subreports. Main report has 3 subreports, each subreport is inplmented in a group header(3 subreports and 3 group headers). We would like to print a group header under subreport as a column header every page, and need a page break when group number is changed. This report exports a MS Excel(97-2003) report file.
    In main report, [New After Page] is checked under Group Header #1d from [Section Expert]
    In each subreport, [Repeat Group Header On Each Page] is checked under the highest group from [Group Expert]
    Here are two issues;
    Since Crystal Reports has more rows than Excel in one page, colmun header in each subreport is being printed in the middle of the page. It should be printed at the top of the page
    When Subreport has many rows and has to be printed in more than 1 page, a page break is automatically inserted before column header. It should be printed right below column header which is Group Header #1
    We have been trying to pass row counts(count of group header because group header is used as the details) using a shared variable from Subreport 1 to Subreport 2 via main report since Subreport2 cannot predict how many rows Subreport 1 has.
    Here is what we are trying but we are getting an error which is "A constant expression is required here" under main report
    - In Sunreport 1
    whileprintingrecords;
    shared numbervar SubGroupCount := DistinctCount({Table.Field});
    - In Mainreport
    shared numbervar SubGroupCount;
    if(pagenumber) = 1
    then (SubGroupCount)
    else 50
    Is there any solutionss or better ways other than above?
    Thank you,
    Main Report: Group Header #1a --> as Page Header
    Run Date: mm/dd/yyyy                                                                 Report Name
    Main Report Group Header #1b --> Subreport 1
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
    Header 4
    Header 5
    Header 6
    Main Report Goup Header #1c --> Subreport 2
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
    Header 4
    Header 5
    Header 6
    Main Report Froup Header #1d --> Subreport 3
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
    Header 4
    Header 5
    Header 6

    Thank you for your reply and sorry for my complicated explanations. The report has confidential information, so I replaced to some fake data but I believe you can still see what I am trying to do..
    Main Report
    Subreport 2
    Output1
    Output2: the following page
         --> more rows are printed..
    We have two problems;
    1. The column header in Output2 is supposed to be pronted right below the last row in Output2, however, a page break is automatically inserted. But even in the same output document, it works for some group when it has a few rows..
    2. Since Crystal Reports prints more rows in one page than MS Excel does, Column header is not be printed at the top of the page.
    I tried the way you advised me but it did not work..
