Calculating RMS value of data samples in RT

I am using CompactRIO 9014 in my control application. I am acquiring data from NI 9215 module. I want to calculate RMS value of data coming from this module for monitoring of the system. I want to include data samples within 1sec to calculate RMS value. I am sampling at 25KHz rate. I want to use RT for processing there a way to do this? I am using Labview 8.6.

Yes, you can do the processing on the RT host - that's actually the recommended way of doing things. I suggest using a DMA FIFO to transfer the data from your FPGA to the RT host, however you don't want to make your FIFO 25k elements long. Instead, you can write/read the FIFO in chunks (recommended size is under 8196 elements). Then, as long as you're reading from the FIFO at a reasonable rate on the RT, you should be able to pull out the elements and perform the RMS calculations. 
If you're new to FPGA, I highly recommend looking at the examples in Help > Find Examples > Hardware Input and Output > compact RIO. A lot of them demonstrate communication between the FPGA and RT hosts.

    You seem to select EMG voltage vs Angle(Z-axis). Is that really what you want? More resasonable would seem e.g. EMG voltage vs. time.
    If you want to process the 3D (xyz data), you probably need to add some more math). Why are you taking the absolute value? RMS does not care about the sign anyway, right?
    They you are trying an XY graph with a single point, because your Y value is only a single number. You need an equal number of points for Y.
    Here's a quick modification that graph EMG(mV) vs. time(ms) and takes the RMS of the EMG data. See if this gives you some ideas.
    Please provide more information what you want to do with the angles.

  • DC/RMS value of waveform question!

    Hello,
           This would probably a very common question, but I hav a DAQmx system sampling 1000 AI samples at 1000Hz. I would like to get the DC value of each and individual point of this waveform.
    when i use the Basic DC/RMS.vi and write the data to a file using Write to Measurement File.vi, i do not observe 1000samples in 1 sec. 
    however, i observe only 1 sample/sec, because the loop frequency now becomes 1000samples/1000Hz = 1 sample/sec.. 
    is there a way that I can write all the 1000samples in 1 sec to file? Any other vi or logic?
    any help would be appreciated... thanks

     Is the time varying part of the signal periodic?

     Yes, it is around 20Khz, (that's what is the input to the signal)

    Does it rectify and filter the signal? Does it do a true RMS covnversion or is it average responding but calibrated for RMS for sinusoidal signals? Does it do the kind of signal processing you want?
    It does rectify internally, there is a precision full wave rectifier inside the signal conditioner, so, I am assuming there should not be any further signal processing required once the signal is outputted from the chip.
    3. Are you trying to measure the signal coming out of the signal conditioner or are you trying to measure teh original signal and produce an output after software signal porcessing which is similar to what the signal conditioner produces?

  • How can I find the element with the closest value to a calculated "target value" in a 1D array?

    Hello all,
    may be the following question is very simple, but I am relatively new in labview and it would be great if somebody could help me:
    I have a acquaried 1D array of data-points. Now, I have to find the element in this array which value is the closest to a calculated "target value".
    After finding the element with the value close to the "target value", I have to get the position of this element (i.e. the index) in the 1D array.
    Now, I have to use this index to find and extract the element at this position in an other 1D array.
    It would be very nice if somebody could help me with this problem.

  • Append value with Data Storage Vis

    Dear,
    I would like to use the Data Storage VIs to collect my data but I can't achieve my target.
    I'm acquiring 1000 samples at 1kHz (N samples on demand) and I make the mean value of the samples. At the end of this proces I have a scalar value and the initial time at wich I have acquired the data. With this two I build a waveform and then I use the Write Data Storage Vi (TDMS) with "append" write mode to save my data.
    When I read the Data Storage all the value have lost the time information. They start from 1.00.00,000 01/01/1904 and are equal spaced in time.
    How can I keep the time information?

    Sorry totaly misread what you were doing.
    You need to create ensure that waverform that is saved has the correct values for X0 and dx when you save it. Use the build waveform function to acheive this.
    edit:
    the default value for X0 is timestamp 0 (1904), use get datetimestamp at the very start of the cycle to get the correct value.

  • SSAS Multidimensional Time Intelligence YTD calculation showing BLANK for Date level

    I am working with SSAS Multidimensional Cube, basically I have defined a Time Intelligence calculations for just YTD in the Cube, the calculation was created in the Calculations tab of the cube as follows:

    Could anyone help me defining a Time Intelligence YTD calculation that works for all levels including the Date (highlighted in yellow above)?

    The only strange thing is the MDX script, I would have used this one instead (sse below) - but if this is not the issue, I would suggest you to isolate the issue in a simpler MDX script removing any other calculation.
    Also take a look at the DateTool solution for these calculations - I really don't like the wizard provided by the development environment, it has other issues but not something that should affect your calculation:

  • Expression or Calculation tag value are reset to last application saved value when PC reboot

    I'm doing daily logging data for daily report and for the daily flow calculation, I'm doing those step:
    1- When Timer1 = 11h55 -> Daily_Volume = (Actual_Volume - Yesterday_Volume)
    2- When Timer2 = 11h56 -> Yesterday_Volume = (Actual_Volume )
    3- When Timer3 = 11h58 -> Log to database Daily Volume
    The problem is that when you restart the application or the PC, the calculation tag "Yesterday volume" reset to the last saved value.  
    Exemple 2012-01-01 last saved application changes,
    - 2012-01-01 my Actual_Volume = 1000 USGal moved to my Yesterday_Volume.
    - 2012-01-02 my Actual_Volume (1100 USGal)  - Yesterday_Volume (1000 USGal) = Daily_Volume (1000 USGal) move the Actual_Volume to Yesterday_Volume.
    - 2012-01-03 my Actual_Volume (1200 USGal)  - Yesterday_Volume (1100 USGal) = Daily_Volume (100 USGal)
    We've got a power shutdown or any PC reboot.  On the 2013-01-01
    - 2013-01-01 my Actual_Volume (19000 USGal)  - Yesterday_Volume (1000 USGal) = Daily_Volume (18000 USGal) move the Actual_Volume to Yesterday_Volume.
    - 2013-01-02 my Actual_Volume (19100 USGal)  - Yesterday_Volume (19000 USGal) = Daily_Volume (100 USGal) move the Actual_Volume to Yesterday_Volume.
    Those values reset to the last application saved value cause bad data in my daily, monthly, yearly reports.  How can we retain calculation tag value to avoid those reset problem?

    In Edit mode, File->Modify Process, there is an option "Save state file every xxx minutes". Is this one checked or not?
    The value of objects should be saved in the state file when you close the process, or periodically saved according to this setting. The saved value will be loaded next time you open the process.

    I am using SOA Suite 11.1.1.4 for BAM.
    Can someone please help explain to me if and how we can use calculated fields in BAM data objects where the calculations are not only based on the data for that row, but on multiple rows ?
    Like for example, this case can easily be constructed -->
    TestDataObject Layout
    Column1 integer
    Column2 integer
    Column3 calculated = Column1 + Column2
    But if I want to create something like this -->
    TestDataObject Layout
    Column1 integer
    Column2 integer
    Column3 calculated = max(Column1) + avg(Column2)
    Is it possible to do the above ?
    Is it possible to check multiple rows of the other columns while calculating a value ?

    Do you know you can do that in reports with calculated fields?
    I guess it is not possible using calculating functions offered in data objects to do that.
    If you, or anybody, discover how do that, please tell us. I would like to know that.

  • Simulate arbitrary signal getting rms value

    Hello!
    I´ve got a .lvm file (attached as testpwm.txt) that generates a preview in Simulate Arbitrary Signal but shows nothing in the waveform graph. I would like to calculate the rms value and the duty cycle of the signal, but it doesn´t work together with the Express VI. I have also tried to build the waveform with Read waveform from file, but it doesn´t work either.
    any ideas?

    What do you mean by "but value varries from 0 to rms which is not required. "
    If you are using EPS 2014, you should first identify the type of data acquisition cards you are using for your cRIO 9076 (SAR of Delta-Sigma), and then choose the examples with the corresponding type in name in the Power Quality folder. These are more ready-to-run than the examples in Basic Power Measurement which are for DAQmx, but which could also give you a straight forward view of how to measure RMS.
    You need to check the data acquisition modules on your cRIO for acquisition precision. If they are different from what's used in the examples, you need to manually modify a bit. Refer to the link below for how to adjust precision when you change for another module.

  • Rms value measuremen​t?

    I tried to measure the rms value of a small ac signal ( 6v rms, 50 Hz)
    using [c]FPAI-100 module.
    The control rate was selected between 1ms-10 ms.
    But
    the rms value output using Basic dc rms .vi  was not a constant value. But
    simply the magnitude of individual samples and the constant rms value
    (6 V) was not obtained. How to solve it?

    Hi Experts, I have been monitoring the SAP SRM system and in the Inbound Queue (SMQ2) I find queues with entries ended with: StatusText: Exception condition "GUID_FOR_LOGSYS_CHANGED" This caused the queues to end with status: SYSFAIL. Please guide me
