Call classes from another project

Hi,
i have a (i hope) simple question.
Meanwhile i have a lot of custom coding which i uploaded to my J2EE as PAR files from NWDS.
For several projects i have similar requirements (e.g. read customers information etc.), so I generated a "base" project in nwds and deployed it.
In NWDS project properties i can set the "Java Build Path" to this project and i am able to call the methods that i wrote in this project. But only in NWDS.
When i deploy the project to J2EE i get runtime errors that classes are not found, so i think i have to customize sth. in portalapp.xml to set the reference
I tried several things with "SharingReference" etc. but nothing worked.
Could anyone tell me the steps i have to do?
I know i could create a jar file which i link in my project but i want a central project where i can change coding, deploy it again, and all projects automatically use the actual classes.
Many thanks
regards
Alex

Hi Min,
i tried this but get errors.
The project par with the baseclasses has the name "com.xxx.baseclasses.par", the package in the project where the classes are placed is "com.xxx.baseclasses.usermanagement;"
So i tried it in portalapp.xml of my other project with the following lines
<application-config>
    <property name="SharingReference" value="usermanagement,com.xxx.baseclasses"/>
    <property name="SharingAccess" value="shared"/>
  </application-config>
I also tried com.xxx.baseclasses.usermanagement, but no luck. In default trace i get:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.xxx.baseclasses.usermanagement.ZBVUser
Do i have to set the reference in a different way or do i have to change sth. in my baseclasses project?
Many thanks
Regards
Alex

    Hi ..... can somebody plz tell me
    How to call a Java Class from another Java Class assuming both in the same Package??
    I want to call the entire Java Class  (not any specific method only........I want all the functionalities of that class)
    Please provide me some slotuions!!
    Waiting for some fast replies!!
    Regards
    Smita Mohanty

    Hi Smita,
    you just need to create an object of that class,thats it. Then you will be able to execute each and every method.
    e.g.
    you have developed A.java and B.java, both are in same package.
    in implementaion of B.java
    class B
                A obj = new A();
                 //to access A's methods
                 A.method();
                // to access A's variable
                //either
               A.variable= value.
               //or
               A.setvariable() or A.getvariable()

    hi,
    i've some problem in calling a method of one class from another class within the same package.
    for eg. if in Package mypack. i'm having 2 files, f1 and f2. i would like to call a method of f2 from f1(f1 is a servlet) . i donno exactly how to instantiate the object for f2. can anybody please help me in this regard.
    Thank u in advance.
    Regards,
    Fazli

    This is what my exact problem.
    i've created a bean (DataBean) to access the database. i'm having a servlet program (ShopBook). now to check some details over there in the database from the servlet i'm in need to use a method in the DataBean.
    both ShopBook.java and DataBean.java lies in the package shoppack.
    in ShopBook i tried to instantiate the object to DataBean as
    DataBean db = new DataBean();
    it shows the compiler error, unable to resolve symbol DataBean.
    note:
    first i compiled DataBean.java, it got compiled perfectly and the class file resides inside the shoppack.
    when i'm trying to compile the ShopBook its telling this error.
    hope i'm clear in explaining my problem. can u please help me?

  • Is it possible to call methods from another class from within an abstract c

    Is it possible to call methods from another class from within an abstract class ?

    I found an example in teh JDK 131 JFC that may help you. I t is using swing interface and JTable
    If you can not use Swing, then you may want to do digging or try out with the idea presented here in example 3
    Notice that one should refine the abstract table model and you may want to create a method for something like
    public Object getValuesAtRow(int row) { return data[row;}
    to give the desired row and leave the method for
    getValuesAt alone for getting valued of particaular row and column.
    So Once you got the seelcted row index, idxSelctd, from your table
    you can get the row or set the row in your table model
    public TableExample3() {
    JFrame frame = new JFrame("Table");
    frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
    public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {System.exit(0);}});
    // Take the dummy data from SwingSet.
    final String[] names = {"First Name", "Last Name", "Favorite Color",
    "Favorite Number", "Vegetarian"};
    final Object[][] data = {

  • Importing a class from another context?

    Hi JSP techies,
    Im using RESIN and having a simple problem of figuring out how to import classes from another context, if Im using the right word.
    ie.
    My .jsp files are under $home/resin/doc/test dir. And in the jsp file, I would like to import a servlet class or a plain java class. But the servlet classes and all other classes are located under $home/resin/webapps/project/WEB-INF/classes/a/b/c
    Hence when I say
    <% page import="a.b.c.*" %>
    I get an error saying "a" not found.
    1. When I say "servlet classes are in a different CONTEXT", is that right? or is it just another directory?
    2. How can I make the jsp file import the classes from the servlets class path?
    Note: Ofcourse, when I copy the package to the
    $home/resin/doc/WEB-INF/classes dir, everything works fine. But thats simply not an efficient way to get around. Could anyone clear my doubts on this regd.?
    Thanks in advance.
    Arun

    Oh... I get it now. I'm sorry, I had you poorly misunderstood. You are trying to import servlets from another web app or servlet context. I would suggest you put servlets that are common to all web apps in the system classpath and not tie them to any particular web app. In other words create a package directory structure from the system's root directory or any where outside of any web apps and point the system classpath to the beginning of that directory structure. I have a similar thing going with Tomcat. I have a folder in my root called Java_Class which is in my classpath. I build all common utilities in this directory. So I have a com/craig/web structure that holds my AppServlet which is in package com.craig.web. This servlet is visible to all web apps via the Windows classpath. Servlets particular to an application like say an MusicOrderProcess servlet would reside in a package under the webserverhome/webapps/MusicStore/WEB-INF/classes directory where webserver home is the home directory of the webserver you are using. I've tested this across webservers as well (orionserver and Tomcat) and it works.
    From the prompt you include in your posts I am guessing that you are running on UNIX. Move your common servlets out of their respective web apps and into a common directory structure. Configure the UNIX $CLASSPATH (or is it $classpath?) environment variable to point to this sturcture and you'll be on your way!
    Post again if you have more questions!

  • Not picking up Toplink Descripters or classes from dependant project

    Working w/ beta3 of the designer, and building a database adapter to do an insert, I've noticed that the BPEL process generates its own set of Offline Database Tables, Toplink Mappings and object classes, even though these offline tables, objects and mappings already exist in a project that I have set as a dependency. These mappings seem the same - am I missing something?
    Thanks.
    Dave

    Hi David,
    I don't think you can import one TopLink Project into another, or do it with a dependency.
    However I created a new BPEL process project and then I added the toplink_mappings.mwp and src/ directory from another project I created, then ran the DBAdapter wizard. I was able to generate the toplink_mappings.xml, the wsdl, and the xsd.
    To be safe you may want to copy these files into your new project first. The project should be named toplink_mappings.mwp.
    Thanks

  • How to include a CSS from another project

    Hi all,
    I'm developing an AbstractPortalComponent which uses some of my own defined stylesheets. I can include the stylesheet defined in my own project by this:
    com.sapportals.portal.prt.resource.IResource myStyle =
    request.getResource("css", "css/my_nav.css");
    response.include(request, myStyle);
    Now I need to include another CSS but from another project.
    I tried also to get the response and write the HTML code but it writes it into the <BODY></BODY> tag and the CSS is not used when rendering the document:
    ...</head>
    <body class="prtlBody urFontBaseFam urScrl">
    <LINK REL=stylesheet HREF="/irj/portalapps/myProject/css/zglobal.css" TYPE="text/css">
    Does anybody know the solution?
    Thanks in advance,
    Romano

    There are document hooks that you can use to insert things into the response of a page being written to the client.
    Therefore, if you create a service which implements the IDocumentHookListener, you will then need to implement the
    String doDocumentHook(int documentPosition, IPortalComponentRequest request, IPortalComponentResponse response)
    and
    void doDocumentHook(int documentPosition, IPortalComponentRequest request, IPortalComponentResponse response)
    The first method, that returns a String, you can basically check where in the document you would like to write code, something like
    switch (documentPosition) {
      case IDocumentHookListener.HEAD_SECTION_BEGIN :
        return "some string";
        break;
      case IDocumentHookListener.HEAD_SECTION_END :
        return "some other string";
        break;
    The second method, simply writes out the String returned from the first method to the response, i.e.
      response.write(doDocumentHook(documentPosition, request));
    I hope this helps

  • Accessing a variable defined in one class from another class..

    Greetings,
    I've only been programming in as3 for a couple months, and so far I've written several compositional classes that take MovieClips as inputs to handle behaviors and interactions in a simple game I'm creating. One problem I keep coming upon is that I'd love to access the custom variables I define within one class from another class. In the game I'm creating, Main.as is my document class, from which I invoke a class called 'Level1.as' which invokes all the other classes I've written.
    Below I've pasted my class 'DieLikeThePhishes'. For example, I would love to know the syntax for accessing the boolean variable 'phish1BeenHit' (line 31) from another class. I've tried the dot syntax you would use to access a MovieClip inside another MovieClip and it doesn't seem  to be working for me. Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks,

    I would approach it in much the same way as you would in java, by making getters and setters for all of your class variables.
    Getters being for returning the values, Setters being for setting them.
    So you would make a get function for the variable you want to access ala:
    function get1PhishBeenHit():boolean {
         return this.phish1BeenHit;
    Then to access the value of that variable from outwith the class:
    var result:boolean = ClassInstanceName.get1PhishBeenHit();

  • Calling class from servlet gives 500

    I have a servlet that works fine by itself, and another class that works fine by itself. However, when I try to create a new instance of the class using the servlet and access a method in the class such as:
    Servlet code
    Object a = new Object()
    a.method
    the server returns 500.
    Is there some security aspect to calling classes from servlets that may be causing this?

    Thanks for the replies which have tracked the problem down.
    The Server log says:
    NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/jdbc/driver/OracleDriver
    This class is needed by the class being called by the servlet.
    The missing class is in a jar file which is put on the classpath when running the class in a standalone environment. I don't know if it's possible to put this jar on the classpath in the Server environment.
    However a solution is to explode the jar file and put the exploded classes in the WEB-INF/classes of the Server. The only disadvantage is that they get wiped out every time I re-deploy the application war file.

    To be begin with your problem sounds like you are doing everything in one thread. So stop doing that. Second when you get it split up and if a task is taking too much time then interrupt it. No kill. Interrupt. This means the worker thread needs to check sometimes if it has been interrupted.

  • Importing sequence from another project, can't connect to dynamic link

    I'm trying to get another sequence from another project into this one (mostly to be able to copy over a specific edit from that without remaking it) and when trying to do so, the system, as per the usual, tries to connect to the dynamic link server, but stalls on the connection screen for some time.  One time it simply told me that it could not connect, and another time I got an "unspecified draw error".  I'm using a PC.  Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated; I've never run into this issue before, and have had to copy edits between projects multiple times.

  • Importing single bin from another project

    Do any of the experts (or former Avid users) know how to import a single bin from another project into the current project - is this possible in CS6? Also is there anything like the dupe detection in Avid? On the subject of Speech to text (analysis) does this improve over time - i.e. is there a learning system such as in Dragon Naturally Speaking that will reduce the gibberish somewhat? Thanks

    Hi Mike,
    You can only import an entire Premiere Pro project, or a selected sequence, into your current PP project.  If you want to import just a single Bin, you can:
    Make a copy of the project you want to import, and then, in the Project window, delete all media outside the Bin you you want to keep.  Now import that modified project with only 1 Bin.
    Put all of your Bin's media on a new sequence, and then import just that sequence into PP.  Only the media associated with that sequence will be copied into your master project.
    Import your entire PP project and delete all media outside your Bin from within your master project.
    No dupe detection as of yet.  If you haven't already, please send Adobe a Feature Request here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&promoid=EWQQL.  The more people ask this, the better the chances we'll finally get it (I miss it from FCP).
    As for Speech to text, I don't use it so I don't know.  Hopefully someone else will chime in.
    Hope this helps.  Cheers!

  • ANT: Include classes from another jar

    Hi all.
    Can I add classes from another jar to be added into my jar-file?
    Other words, may I write something like this:
    <target name="jar" depends="compile">
    <jar destfile="deploy/my.jar"
    basedir="${compile.dir}"
    includes="another.jar" >
    </jar>
    </target>
    in my build.xml?
    Thanx a lot for Your tips.
    Regards, Volodymyr Shram.

    I've found some resolve:
    <target name="jar" depends="compile">
    <unjar src="another.jar" dest="another_dir"/>
    <jar jarfile="deploy/my.jar">
    <fileset dir="${compile.outdir}" includes="**" />
    <fileset dir="another_dir" includes="**" />
    </jar>
    </target>
    But is it only way? Can I add classes from another.jar to my.jar without extracting?
    Regards, Volodymyr Shram.
