Calling a dll fio labview

I have a sncore sensor and the API files I gopt from the company are below.
I am unable to call them inside labview. The error I get is usually
" One or more required inputs to this function are not wired or are wired incorrectly. Show the Context Help window to see what the connections to this function should be."
I am attachning the sencore API files I have.

smercurio is right about the PodConnect() function returning a structure pointer but it is not clear if that is a problem here. If you do need to access any of the values in that structure directly then yes you have a problem. If you can live with only calling the 5 or so functions exported by that DLL (as is done in the SampleApp included in that archive), without a need to look into the HPOD structure yourself at some point then you can simply treat that HPOD * datatype as a pointer sized integer, passed by value.
Basically everywhere you see the HPOD * datatype you configure the according parameter in the Call LibraryNode to be a pointer sized integer.
If you however find out that you need to look into the values stored in that structure directly then yes you do need to write a wrapper DLL, that exports more convenient functions for LabVIEW to get at that data.

    I have a dll called "DLLRTTEST" that I've written, and have succesfully called on my host machine.  I'm now attempting to call this dll from a vi that is located on my real time computer.  Currently I get an "Error 7 occurred at Call Library Function Node in DLLRTTEST.vi." message upon execution
    In the attached screenshot I'm trying to ensure that the vi I'm running is in fact located on the real time system.  I then use a "Check if File or Folder Exists.vi" to confirm that the dll that I'm about to call does exist on the real time system as well.  However, I still receive an "error 7 file not found" error from the Call Library Function Node.
    Any help is appreciated.

    As nathand already mentioned, depending on your C toolchain your DLL will depend on other DLLs. Usually the according msvcrtXX.dll that matches your Visual C version, if you use Visual C, other runtime DLLs if you use a different C environment. These runtime DLLs are even necessary if you do not call anything in any of your functions, since the DLL makes various initialization steps when it gets loaded and that references some C runtime functions nevertheless. Compiling and linking the DLL with static C runtime is usually also not a clean solution since the linked in C runtime will then reference Windows APIs that are not available on LabVIEW RT.
    Depending on your version of LabVIEW RT you will have some mscvrtxx.dll files in your system directory but it will be an older one than from the latest Visual Studio version. If you can compile your DLL with that Visual Studio version then you should be fine, but could possibly run into new problems if you later upgrade to a newer LabVIEW RT version. Installing the C runtime distributables from newer Visual Studio versions is unfortunately also not a solution, since it references many (undocumented) Windows API functions that are not available in LabVIEW RT.

  • Problem about calling a DLL in LABVIEW

    Hi,
    I have a problem using Labview to call a DLL file, when I call the function " commandinterp() in labview, labview will always return error message"an error occured in external code, it might  have corrupted labview memory..."  attached is the DLL file and the labview code .so did the code i attached have any problem? or is it the problem of the DLL?  thanks

    It looks to me that he might be missing an input parameter. 
    The line shows   int commandinterp (char cmd_line[]) {
    So is a char type an input argument for the function to be used as the variable name cmd_line?
    The attached VI does not show any input parameters doing into the DLL call.
    (I am not entirely sure.  Since the dll itself was not attached, I had to tell Labview to ignore the item when it looked for it.  Perhaps the way the VI opens up when the dll doesn't exist on my machine is different then if the dll did exist.)

  • Call a dll for Labview: Function not found in library

    Hello,
    I am trying to call a very simple .dll form Labview. I compiled the .dll for x64 using Visual Studio 2010, because I am using Labview(64-bit). I did everything exactly the way I read it in several Tutorials. But the "Call Library Function Node" doesn't create a popup menu with the avalible functions like it is supposed to do. The Import Wizard doesn't find any functions neither. What is wrong with my .dll?
    I added a block marked 'extern "C" ' into my source file, but it still won't work.

    You need to define an entry point to the DLL

  • Calling a DLL from LabVIEW causes crash

    Okay, this is an odd one. I have searched through various posts and have found several things that were close but not quite the same.
    I have a DLL. I pass to the function in the DLL two strings, each one representing an absolute path to a pair of files. I use a path control to get the paths and then convert those paths to strings. The function also has about 13 other parameters, each of which are U8's passed by reference. I have attached my VI and the DLL. I had to zip the DLL to get it a valid extension.
    The function opens the file pointed to by the first string and parses information out of it. It then tries to create some temporary files in a folder that W7 considers to be a safe temporary folder. The problem is that when I run this VI, LabVIEW crashes...hard. I get the message that LV needs to close. However, before it crashes, it successfully opens the file, parses the info out of it and creates one new file in the temp folder. So, the issue seems to happen after the function mostly finishes with everything it needs to do.
    One interesting note: I replaced the outputs of the path2string conversions with string constants pointing to the exact same files. Now LV doesn't crash. Instead I get an unhandled exception error in the DLL.
    Next interesting note: This same procedure called from another application written in C (on another system) works fine.
    Finally, I do have one advantage that most others don't: the developer of the DLL is a coworker of mine. So I have access to the source code.
    My coworker feels that the function is failing "between the lines" of code. He thinks it is some type of stack overrun but can't place it.
    Any thoughts?

    The items marked as "inputs" are meant to have something passed in as a value. The parameters marked as I/O are meant to have a pointer to them passed so the function can modify the values (passed as reference).
    The function simply opens the file at "filename" and parses out the info to update the other U8 parameters. The file pointed to by "patch" is simply opened to verify it exists and then closed.

    Structs can be handled by using Adapt to Type, just build the cluster and wire it in. Pointers can be handled as intergers and passed on.

  • Error while calling a DLL

    Hello Everyone,
    I have made a dll and calling that dll in LabVIEW.
    When I select a functioni n that dll, in the window where we get the Function Prototype, I am getting some unusal charcters like "?", "@@YAHXZ"  "void ?FindNodesNm@@YAHXZ(void);"
    In the above dll FindNodesNM is a function which i am trying to call
    Can anyone tell me why this is so?

    If I remember correctly I think this has to do with the way you're exporting the symbols for your functions. I did a quick check in the NI KnowledgeBase and came up with this article, which discusses extra symbols in function names if you don't use extern "C" when definining the symbols to export.

    don't think it's a calling convention beceause When I use the box "call a dll" in labview and I select my dll, I can see all functions I have create in the dll (just the extern functions). for the datatype, I use int or unsigned int and sometimes char. and I can receive this value in labwiew...
    but for the pointer that's certainly my problem

    You need to configure the function manually. Once you select the dll and select the function, select the button Add a Parameter After. You can change the name of the parameter to sortie, keep the Data Type as long and then change the Pass field to Pointer to Value. Click again the Add a Parameter After button and do the same for the your variable "tension".

  • How to call Fortran .dll file that using other library files?

    Hi,
    I am trying to do some arkward tasks using LabView, and I am desperately need help....
     A little bit background:
    1. My co-worker has some code written in Fortran, where he called other libraries (many from CERNLAB or PAW). Those stuffs are pretty powerful in mathmatical calculation and simulations.
    2. In some of my LabView code, I need to call his Fortran source code in order to do some complicated calculations. I have no capablility to translate his Fortran code to Labview (or is it even possible??), so we end up with trying to use "Call library function node" where I just provide input/outputs to communicate with his code. The idea sounds simple enough?
    3. We complie the Fortran code into .dll, and then specifiy the dll in "Call library function node". The first try with a very simple Fortran code, something like c = a+b*a, was sucessful. The dll file and Call lib function worked good. It's sort of proved the concept.
    4. Now I am trying more complicated Fortran code (say Test.dll), which calling other library (.lib files) that using typical "call xxx(a,b,c)" line, and my nightmare started....  It seems nothing was excuted when I call Test.dll in LabView.
    Questions:
    1. How do LabView know if the Test.dll code needs functions from other .lib files? Do I need to copy all the .lib files to a specific folder?
    2. When I create .dll file, for LabView to be able to use it, are there any special requirement on the way the .dll is compiled?
    3. Seems there is mismatch btw the data type in Fortran and LabView. For example, LabView's  Signed 8-bit Integer seems different with a integer in Fortran. How can i know the correlation btw data type in different langurage, i.e. LabView vs Fortran?
    4. Are there any good examples that I can take a look?

    You are aware that Intel Visual Fortran is the successor to Compaq Visual Fortran (I think you made a mistype with the Virtual)? So an upgrade might be at its place.
    Anyhow I'm really not familiar with Fortran at all, but lib files are usually compiled into an EXE or DLL and not loaded dynamically. 1) 
    So there should be no problem with locating those libs. What most likely is a problem are other DLL dependencies such as any Fortran Runtime library or possibly other third party DLLs the more advanced code in your DLL might be using.
    Typically most compilers can be configured to link the runtime library code statically into the DLL, as altenbach reports for the Intel compiler, otherwise you must make sure to install the  redistributable Fortran Runtime Library for your compiler. Besides that you must make sure to find out what other runtime dependencies your code might have and install them.
    1) One exception I know of is LabWindows CVI which allows to also load lib files dynamically. This is supposedly a legacy feature from LabWindows for DOS, which allowed that feature to simulate dynamic module loading in order to swap modules at runtime to work around the 640k memory limitation of DOS.

    Well i have written a C++ code that uses the  winmain function (windows function). i want to convert this code into dll and call that dll into labview.
    Is it possible to  call winmain function as one of the functions in labview. Please let me know as soon as possible.

    You didn't say what development environment you're using, so I'm assuming Visual Studio. It sounds like you created a Win32 app (as opposed to an MFC app). This has a "WinMain" function. The prototype for WinMain is geared towards it being called by the OS when you run the executable. You could just add the __declspec(export) directive in front of the return type, but you also need to change some build functions in Visual Studio to get a DLL. You probably also don't need all the arguments that WinMain uses. You're probably better off by starting with a new DLL project in order to get the framework for a DLL, and then copy and past the function code. That's what I would do.
    I would also strongly suggest that you crack open the "Using External Code in LabVIEW" manual that gets installed when you installed LabVIEW. It's in the "manuals" directory, filename of "lvexcode.pdf".

  • Stack overflow when calling a DLL

    I have developped a DLL in Ada.
    I tried to call a function of this DLL from a C++ executable.
    My program crashed because of a stack overflow.
    Then, I increased the stack size of my program (linker option), and now it
    works.
    Calling this DLL through the call library function from a 6.0 Labview
    program causes the same stack overflow.
    How could I increase the stack size of my Labview program ?

    I have never come across this issue but here are a few things you can try:
    1) Change the Calling Convention between C and StdCall(WINAPI). The main difference between the two calling conventions has to do with when the stack is cleaned up. In one method, the stack is cleaned earlier than in the other method.
    2) Call your dll with LabVIEW 7.0. You can find the evaluation version of the latest version at http://www.ni.com/labview

    i have a vi that uses a net dll to access the usb port and read a stream of data but every time i run vi labview needs to close and in debug option shows an unhandled exception ('system.objectdisposedexception') occurred in labview.exe
    the usb device is connected to the pc when this happens.

    I'm not quite sure what is causing this error but I think is related to the dll itself. I found links related to the 'system.objectdisposedexception' when working with usb ports thay may be helpful.

    If you have a print screen when you get the messege, that would be useful too. The messege says that the unhandled exception ocurred in labview.exe since you are calling your dll through LabVIEW. Howerver I think it has something to do with the dll itself, or the way you are calling it.

  • How can I calling LabView DLL within LabView and pass similar Data Types?

    I am trying to use an Instrument Driver, which is created in LabView6.1 as a DLL. At this point I have only LabView to test this DLL. I was wondering, is there easy way to find out what sort of Parameter or Data Type I should be using.
    How can I pass the following data with in LabView:
    LVRefnum as Type?
    LVBoolean as Type?
    TD1 (a structure) as Type?
    It is funny to see that I am able to create a DLL in labview but having trouble calling it within LabView. I thought, it would be easier to test the DLL within the same environment.
    Basically, I am more worried about the VISA calls that are used in the driver to communicate with instrument. Because, there is no link to �VISA32.dll� in
    the header file, is that handled by the LV Run-time engine? I guess more details are needed on using the LabView DLL within LabView from National Instrument Technical Support.

    A LVRefNum seems to be an unsigned long data type (32bit). You can cast it
    in LV then use that as a parameter to call the DLL. (an Occurrence type
    seems to be a Ulong32)
    When you created the DLL what was the resulting type for the LVRefNum?

  • Can LabVIEW call a DLL built with VS(2005) C++ with /CLR and Without an Entry Point

    My project requires me to convert a C++ program to a DLL and having it called by LabVIEW. Due to the complexity of this C++ program (converted from fortran using f2c -C++ option), it cannot be compiled without using /clr option.  I did build the application standalone (/clr), and it functioned fine.  When I build it into DLL using VS2005, I was forced to use No Entry point option and without using DllMain in the C++ code. Eventually the DLL was built without error.  But after I call it from LabVIEW, I was not getting calculated results as expected.  I added a testing function to the C++ code of the DLL and just try to modify a parameter, it will not, but only return the input numbers.  I was passing data by pointer and not by value, so I expect this parameter output be modified.  I suspect that the DLL didnt get executed at all as it has no entry point specified.
    Am I on the right track to approach this task, or I am heading to totally wrong direction here?   I believe due to the fact that my C++ was from f2c and use vsf2c.lib and so on, the code is managed code, so that a regular DLL cannot be built from it with an entry point. How can LabVIEW call such a DLL? Am I right on that?  I really need your advice here for a right approach to this problem and possible implementation "watch outs"...Thanks!

    Hi...Finally I was able to compile my code with an entry point defined and without using /clr.  I can also call this DLL from LV and got back a variable from a little test function added to the DLL.  But the function that was used for my main application in the DLL crashed LV and I got a pop up box from Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error! "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way, please contact the application's support team for more information".  In Visual Studio I also got the following message: (I eliminated most of the "No symbols loaded" messages that are not errors but just info.)  I would apprciate if someone can take to look with your more "experienced eyes", many thanks!     Iam using a sensoray 2601 module.It is given as DLL file(S2600.DLL).How can i call this function from LabVIEW?

    As far as I can tell problems might occur with the call library function node if the the DLL from visual basic is actually an ActiveX dll if that is the case it seems calling the dll by using the Invoke node is the way to go.
