Calling an EJB 3 SessionBean from a servlet in a Standalone oc4j instance.

I think that this should be simple, but for some reason can't get it to work.
Latest version of jDev and oc4j, running on Linux Fedora 5.
In a jdev application I have ejb and web projects. **EJB 3.0**
The ejb project is deployed first, then the web project -with the ejb project as its parent-.
In the ejb project I have a FacadeBean (SLSB) that implements both remote and local as well as Serializable interfaces. (Do I need to implement Serializable?)
Question:
How do I get the handle on the FacadeBean from the servlet?
I tried:
ic = new InitialContext();
facade = (Facade)ic.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/Facade");
as well as numerous other variations including remote/local stubs, long and short ejb names, facade.getClass().getName, but they all fail!
This should be simple (if not genned automatically by jDev!) !
Please advise.
Thank you.
nat

One way of getting the code to do this is to right click on your session bean in JDeveloper and choose "New sample Java Client", then "Connect to a remote OC4J" etc...
This will create a piece of code that you can then use in your servlet to locate the EJB and invoke it.
Here is a sample Servlet code:
public class Servlet1 extends HttpServlet {
    private static final String CONTENT_TYPE = "text/html; charset=windows-1252";
    public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
        super.init(config);
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
                      HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {response.setContentType(CONTENT_TYPE);
        PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
        out.println("<html>");
        out.println("<head><title>Servlet1</title></head>");
        out.println("<body>");
        out.println("<p>The servlet has received a GET. This is the reply.</p>");
        try {
            final Context context = getInitialContext();
            SessionEJB sessionEJB = (SessionEJB)context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/SessionEJB");
            // No Remote methods found
        String a = sessionEJB.sayHi("joe");
        out.println(a);
        } catch (Exception ex) {
            ex.printStackTrace();
        out.println("</body></html>");
        out.close();
    private static Context getInitialContext() throws NamingException {
        Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
        //  Standalone OC4J connection details
        env.put( Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "oracle.j2ee.naming.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory" );
        env.put( Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "oc4jadmin" );
        env.put( Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "welcome" );
        env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791/ejb1");
        return new InitialContext( env );
}

    First off, wrong forum section.
    Check if your JNDI name is correctly placed for the bean you're calling -- check j2ee-engine.xml for that. Check the EJB container if the ear file you deployed is there and updated.
    Try placing  "localejbs/JNDI name" on your lookup parameter.

  • Calling another java class from a servlet

    I am trying to write a web based form handling system (for a college project)
    I have a servlet that responds to a user request for a form. I have another java program (HTMOut) that parses the xml file for the form and produces HTML output. When I call the HTMOut from the servlet it crashes the webserver (Tomcat). But if I call HTMOut from an ordinary java class it runs fine. If I call another test program from my servlet that works too.
    Any ideas?

    where does your HTMOut output? A file or a stream? I think it is better that HTMOut can output to a stream you can set externally.

    I think this might not be the most appropriate forum for your question. You might try a forum about ejb, or weblogic, or jndi.

  • Can not find my EJB's from my Servlet

    Hi
    I am new to EJB and am trying to get a Servlet to call some sessionless EJB beans. I have got it working in JDeveloper but when I deploy it to orion application server I keep getting a javax.naming.NameNotFoundException exception throw from the Servlet when it tries to find the first EJB.

    I have been trying for a while to get the JNDI naming right but everything I try gets the above error. Any help would be great.
    Thanks
    Andre

    You have to lookup for "ExponentMappingService", and not "ExponentMappingServiceHome"
    The name you give in the <ejb-name> tag in ejb-jar.xml is the JNDI name of the EJB. This is the name u have to look up.

  • How to call an ejb method from jsp?

    Hi, everyone!

  • How to call a  portal service from a servlet

    Hello all.
    I have a functioning portal service that I would like to call from a servlet.
    When I try to do so, I get a ClassCastException when I do this (on line two):
    IPortalRuntimeResources runtimeResources = PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources();
    IDocumentPersistence docPer = (IDocumentPersistence) runtimeResources.getService(IDocumentPersistence.KEY);
    However if I do the following I can get a generic IService and use reflection to invoke the method (in the IDocumentPersistence interface) that I want to invoke:
    IPortalRuntimeResources runtimeResources = PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources();
    com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.IService aService = (com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.IService) runtimeResources.getService(IDocumentPersistence.KEY);
    There must be a better way to use portal services (hopefully like scenario one above) in servlets. In web dynpro you can use portal services and cast them to the correct type. What am I missing?

    Hi Kim,
    how did you integrate the references to your Portal Service Interface into your web application?
    You should do this using the references in your application-j2ee-engine.xml, did you do this? It might be a problem with the classloader otherwise.
    The way you are calling portal services does work normally, however it is not the recommended way as it is documented in the SAP documentation.
    Please check the SAP documentation on how to access a portal service from a j2ee app:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/42/9ddd0cbb211d72e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm

  • Calling foreign EJB server from Weblogic

    Hi,
    I'm trying to invoke an EJB hosted in an old PowerTier EJB Container from an 8.1 SP5 hosted EJB, and I'm running in to problems. (PowerTier is based on the JBroker ORB)
    So far the only way I can get it to work is by replacing Weblogic's ORB implementation with the JBroker one:
    -Djavax.rmi.CORBA.StubClass=com.sssw.jbroker.rmi.StubDelegate
    -Djavax.rmi.CORBA.UtilClass=com.sssw.jbroker.rmi.UtilDelegate
    -Djavax.rmi.CORBA.PortableRemoteObjectClass=com.sssw.jbroker.rmi.PortableRemoteObjectDelegate
    But I'd like to avoid doing this if possible.
    So I'd like to get this to work using the WL RMI-IIOP implementation to integrate with the PowerTier/JBroker server.
    After looking at : http://forums.bea.com/bea/message.jspa?messageID=202437541&tstart=0
    I tried the following:
    Properties config = new Properties();
    config.setProperty(
    Context.PROVIDER_URL, "<b>iiop</b>://xxx.xxx.xxxxx.xxx:389/cn=Instance1,ou=Development,cn=Xxxx%20Xxxxxxx%20Xxxxx,ou=Components,cn=Xxxxxx%20Xxxx,ou=Applications,o=xxxxxxxx,c=uk");
    InitialContext context = new InitialContext(config);
    URL changed to protect the innocent - but format maintained.
    When the server executes this I get the following exception:
    javax.naming.InvalidNameException: url does not contain a port
    at weblogic.corba.j2ee.naming.NameParser.parseURL(NameParser.java:419)

    at javax.naming.InitialContext.<init>(InitialContext.java:195)
    Any idea what is causing this exception? If I replace the '%20' with a normal spaces it makes no difference.
    Am I going about this the right way?
    Thanks!

    In one of your servlet classses create a runtime process and execute a command( the path to javac and the file to be compiled) wait for the process to finish a get the result and send it to the client.

  • How to call a jsp file from an servlet and access the jsp file objects??

    Hi everybody
    I have an jsp file where it contains a vector object with some data and I have a servlet that needs to access this vector object . How can my servlet call for this jsp page and get the vector object. ?
    then an applet will be calling this servlet to get some other object created with the data contained within this vector object...so each time Applet ask the servlet for the object the servlet need to call for this jsp page somehow
    My main question is the communication servlet-jsp
    please if u have any clue I will appreciate it
    thanks

    Hi
    There are several ways to share objects between JSPs/Servlets.
    You can share objects by putting them in the request-in which case the objects lifetime is limited by that of the request, Another way is to store them in the session, againg the lifetime is limited by the lifetime of the session. To have objects that have to persistent over the application life-span use the servletContext to store the objects.
    Any good tutorial should help you get started. Please see the link below for a tutorial on Servlets/JSPs
    Note: Local variables in the JSP cannot be shared with other components as their scope is limited to that particular Page/Servlet.

    Can we call a java class (not a delivered class by java) in a servlet. I am trying to call API.class which is written by me in a servlet. It is not giving an error at the import stage. But when i am trying to initialize the class object it is throwing up the following error:

    Did you deploy your class with the web app? You can do this by placing your classes in a jar, and put that jar into the WEB-INF/lib folder or by copying your classes into WEB-INF/classes.
