Calling c method from java

Hi,
I am new to JNI. I want to call a C function from java, where my C function name is
UINT8 abc(UINT8 feature, UINT8* in_value, UINT32 serialNo, UINT8 * out_value)
where,
typedef unsigned char UINT8;
typedef unsigned int UINT32;
My question is what should be the prototype defination in java and what has to be changed in C code to make it work?

After adding the native keyword to your Java method, compile with javac and run javah on the class name. For example:
package my.stuff;
public class MyClass
   public native void myMethod(char param1, int param2);
}javac ./my/stuff/MyClass.java
javah my.stuff.MyClass
This generates my_stuff_MyClass.h, which has the function prototype for your method. Inside the implementation of the function, you can call your C function.
Here is the contents for my_stuff_MyClass.h:
/* DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - it is machine generated */
#include <jni.h>
/* Header for class my_stuff_MyClass */
#ifndef _Included_my_stuff_MyClass
#define _Included_my_stuff_MyClass
#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" {
#endif
* Class:     my_stuff_MyClass
* Method:    myMethod
* Signature: (CI)V
JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_my_stuff_MyClass_myMethod
  (JNIEnv *, jobject, jchar, jint);
#ifdef __cplusplus
#endif
#endif

  • How to Call C++ Method from Java

    I need to call C++ method from Java.
    I have gone through the JNI tuorial , but was not able to pin point things.
    I read that :
    You have to write JNI c functions which then call your C++ member functions.You need to write a JNI function which will call new on your C++ class.
    Now i have java class :
    Java Code JavaClass.java ---->
    class JavaClass{
    public native void nativeMethod();
        static
            System.loadLibrary("NativeCppCode");
         private void callCppMethod()
              //call C++ method
                    JavaClass jvc = new JavaClass();
                    jvc.nativeMethod()
    }Cpp Code:
    NativeCppCode.h---->
    class NativeCppCode
    public:
        getValue();
        setValue();
    private:
       int a;
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_JavaClass_nativeMethod(JNIEnv *env
                   ,jobject obj);NativeCppCode.C---->
    NativeCppCode::getValue()
       return a;
    NativeCppCode::setValue()
       a = 1;
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_JavaClass_nativeMethod(JNIEnv *env
                   ,jobject obj)
    NativeCppCode* nativeInstabce = new NativeCppCode();
    NativeCppCode.setValue();
    }Is this the correct way to do it.
    Any suggestion would be a great help to me

    tryit wrote:
    I need to call C++ method from Java.Not possible.
    JNI uses C methods.
    Is this the correct way to do it.Same way you would do it in any C/C++ method (not java)
           MyClass* p = ....
           p->doit();
    Common idiom for the pointer in the above is to pass it back and forth to your java code as a java long. You cast it it and from your class pointer. Provide an explicit java method to free it when done. Besides providing the explicit method also implement a finalizer to free it as well (however that is a fail safe and should not be relied upon.)

    It's an extremely important skill to learn how to search the web. Not only will it increase your research and development talents, it will also save you from asking questions that have already been answered numerous times before. By doing a little research before you ask a question, you'll show that you're willing to work and learn without needing to have your hand held the entire time; a quality that is seemingly rare but much appreciated by the volunteers who are willing to help you.
    If you've done the research, found nothing useful, and decide to post your question, it's a great idea to tell us that you've already searched (and what methodologies you used to do your research). That way, we don't refer you back to something you've already seen.

    Your library is compiled in a way which is incompatible with the VM you are using.

  • Are DLL methods called as instance or static methods from Java ?

    Hi,
    I have only a small question.
    When I call a C++ DLL method from Java using JNI, do I instantiate it like an object method or is it called as a static method ?
    I am asking you this because I will use servlets (Java 1.2.2) to call a DLL. These servlets may run concurrently in any moment, and I pass some data to this DLL. I want to know if there is any possibility of this data becoming corrupt, because of one concurrent servlet rewriting the data another servlet has passed.
    Thanks and regards.

    The question is not specific enough.
    Methods in C/C++ can be qualified with the following forms:
    -global (C/C++)
    -static member(C++ class method)
    -instance member(C++ class method)
    Since you didn't provide your code I couldn't possible determine which of the above you are using, but presumably you know.
    On the other hand a java native method is either static or non-static depending on how you defined it in the class. Once again without the code there is no way to say and presumably you already know this.
    The context of the methods is the same context that a similar servlet method has. But naturally in C/C++ is is easy to circumvent the context - for example by using a global variable.
    Data in C/C++ can always become corrupt and in the vast (all?) cases it is because something is wrong in the C/C++ code. Like a pointer that is not initialized, or a pointer used after it is free'd. Or writing past the end of a buffer, or writing before the beginning of a buffer.

    now i have the code to do the finding on my jtextpane but how do i call that code to do the find method?

    ive also tried having the code in my dialog box class, but then how to i tell it to work on my jtextpane which is in my main ap class?

    well if someone had been nice enough to provide me
    with a tutorial i wouldnt have gotten into this

  • Curious thing while calling a procedure from Java !...

    Hi !. My name is Agustin and my doubt would be the following one... I am working for a e-business comp and they asked me to call a procedure from java... The code is the following one:
    CallableStatement cs = null;
    System.out.println("Fecha Nro. 1: " + paramFechaDesde);
    System.out.println("Fecha Nro. 2: " + paramFechaHasta);
    try
    cs = getDBTransaction().createCallableStatement("{call paq_w_ListadoSiniestralidadART. p_sinsiniest(?,?,?,?) }",0);
    cs.registerOutParameter(4,OracleTypes.VARCHAR);
    cs.setInt(1,paramContrato.intValue());
    cs.setString(2,paramFechaDesde);
    cs.setString(3,paramFechaHasta);
    cs.setString(4,paramNombreArchivo);
    cs.executeQuery();
    String nomArchivo = cs.getString(4);
    System.out.println("### " + nomArchivo +" ###");
    catch(SQLException e)
    The weird thing is that, I was expecting a big big exception but the only thing I got is
    ### Error ###
    The String I am expecting is a file's name !; so I am a little bit confused...
    Also I didn't know where to post so If it's in the wrong category... I apologize !... If anyone need more details, I'll be checking out... The account I am working on is an Insurance company, who is the one who provide access to the DB and the procedures... So I can't check what's inside...

    Please provide your Java and OS versions, the JDBC jar file and the Oracle DB version being used when you post.
    >
    I was expecting a big big exception
    >
    Then why do you have an empty exception block? That just makes it disappear so you won't see one if it happens.
    And your code has
    cs.registerOutParameter(4,OracleTypes.VARCHAR);
    cs.setString(4,paramNombreArchivo);You use 'registerOutParameter' for an OUT parameter and the 'setXXX' methods for other parameters.
    Remove the 'setSTring' for the OUT parameter.
    Then as malcollmmc already said
    >
    Sounds like the PL/SQL is returning "Error" as the 4th parameter of the call
    >
    The actual value returned by PL/SQL is strictly determined by the PL/SQL code and Java and JDBC are not involved.
    Fix the code problems, retest, and folllowup with whoever wrote the code if it still returns ERROR.

  • Calling an EJB from Java Mappings in PI 7.1

    In my operation mapping, I am using a Java class which in turn invokes an EJB using JNDI lookup.
    When I execute the code, the class is successfully finding the EJB using JNDI, but invoking it I am getting a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError.

  • How to call c++ code from java

    i have a third party dll written in c++. I want to call its methods in java. I searched web and found that I have to use JNI for this. I have seen examples on web writing c++ code and then using it from java through JNI, but can anybody please point to me the example where i have a predefined library or dll in c++ and i have to call it in java. I think that I may have to declare methods in library as native in java and then write a wrapper implementation (dll) in c++ which actually calls the library or dll functions. But, then how will I call methods of dll from my wrapper code.
    Any examples, please point
