Calling ejb in the webapplication

Hi All,
I have made one stateless EJB which calculates interest wherein the amount, period and rate of interest are passed by the client to EJB now.
Can i call the EJB using JSP . can you tell me proper way of using the EJB in my webapplication
I mean should i directly try to call it from jsp OR call it from servlet.
Thanks
Yogindar

Can i call the EJB using JSP . can you tell me proper
way of using the EJB in my webapplication
I mean should i directly try to call it from jsp OR
call it from servlet.From design perspective, it is better to call through a controller layer (which would be the servlet or another JSP). But nothing prevents one from calling an EJB directly from the JSP. The main purpose of having layers is to decouple the application for ease of development.

  • Web Sphere let me call EJB through the firewall.

    Finally I found some light on my problem related to the firewall.
    Seems like the web Sphere gives you the option to specify the port for the application server to communicate with the client. Can I do similar stuff with Sun Application server? Or I ask our customer to use web logic instead?

    Let me know if this can be easily done with the application server configuration.

    Configuring the IIOP listener from the administration interface is possible in Sun application serverThis let you configure the initial port when ejb client connects to the application server but not the port the as talks back to the client.

  • Best way to call EJB - Servlet or Tag Library

    Hi,
    What is the best way to call an EJB from a JSP? We are using Weblogic 7.0(moving to 8.1 beta). WE have a form on a JSP that needs to get data from an EJB. Our flow goes from JSP --> Controller servlet or tag library -->EJB "Bean" Controller ---> EJB. The specfic EJB we need to populate drop downs and fields will be called by a bean controller. Is it better to call the bean controller using a tag library in the jsp or go to the controller servlet to get the data? If servlet is the answer, where do I lookup the EJB Home and call the create from within the servlet? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

    IMO, if you are following some design patterns, like the MVC framework, the best thing is to populate the model(entities that contain the business data) and call the respective getXX methods from the model on the JSP page. The reason for doing so is to keep JSP pages away from any other work other than to just display the business data contained in the respective business entities.
    The model can be populated in the servlet and either set in the request or session attribute as per the requirement.
    The EJB can be looked up in the servlet as and when required. I would suggest to make use of the Service Locator Pattern to do a look up for the EJB Remote Interface and accordingly make the business calls.
    Hopefully this answers some of your questions.

    Hi,
    Is it available in the interface you are using..
    If the answer is yes.. you might have probably forgotten to deploy the EJBs ear file after making the changes..
    Rebuild it.. and deploy the EJB s ear file again..
    It will solve the problem.. If that also does not work,it might be a problem with the cache.. restart the server..
    It should work now !

  • How to call ejb from Forms?

    Hi.
    I have an existing form (version 11.1.2.0.0) and an existing ejb. Both are running on a WebLogic server version 10.3.5.0. I want to call the ejb from the form (I know that this is not recommended, but in this case it is the only sensible solution). I have tried searching the web but I have not been able to find anything about this except some broken links.
    Can somebody please explain how to do this or show me some documentation or tutorial?
    Regards,
    Sveinung
    Edited by: SvSig on Aug 7, 2012 11:52 PM

    Let's skip the fact that you are asking about an EJB and instead talk about what options are available to call out to any external app or component. Here are some of the options:
    <blockquote>1. To make calls from the client machine to any web server (HTTP listener) you can use WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT. This command simply passes a url to a browser. No return information is passed back into the running form.
    2. To make calls from the client machine to almost any process on the client side, including the OS directly, you would need to create a java bean and integrate it into your form. Whether or not you get return information will depend on how you write the bean and to what you are calling.
    3. To make calls from the server side (mid tier) part of a running form to an external application or component on the same mid tier you can use the HOST command. This executes a shell command. Although specific information cannot be returned (i.e. return values), you can get pass or fail results.
    4. To call out to java applications on the mid tier you can import java code into your Forms application using the Forms Java Importer. This will give you a direct connection to the java application both in and out.</blockquote>
    All of the above examples are explained in the Forms Builder online help. There are other options which are explained in the Forms Deployment Guide
    <blockquote>http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/doc.11120/e24477/toc.htm</blockquote>
    Look specifically at chapters 6-8
    <blockquote><li>6 Oracle Forms and JavaScript Integration
    <li>7 Enhanced Java Support
    <li>8 Working with Server Events</blockquote>
    Summary
    <blockquote><li>WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT
    <li>HOST
    <li>Java Bean
    <li>Imported Java</blockquote>

    I need to call EJB that's created in JBoss from coldfusion.

    Park,
    Why Are you running your JSP/Servlets in iWS instead of iAS? For whatever
    reason,
    look at the Converter sample from iAS. You will be doing RMI/IIOP in this
    case and the sample explains in detail what to do.

    When we create an application, the application will consist of EJBModel and Interface (JSF View)
    In my EJB Model, I have session bean name myappejb.ejb.QuestionSessionBean and one Entity bean name myappejb.entities.Question
    In my User Interface, I have created a managed bean name QuestionController and I try to call QuestionSessionLocal in the EJBModel, but before I can compile, there are systaxs errors. I can't import the import javax.ejb.EJB and myappejb.ejb.QuestionSessionBean, stated not found. In other words I can't call all the beans that I have created in EJBModel from java class that I have ceated in UserInterface.
    Please advise, I'm lost.

    I really confuse how exactly it works

    Hi,
    The problem has been solved. I found the solution, this is due to the "dependencies", must "Checked" the EJBModel.jpr.
    Thanks.

  • "HowTo" Call EJB from different EAR in WLS7

    Hi,
    Im trying to deploy two EAR application modules, both on same WLS7.0 SP2 server
    . I have several problems to give visibility between EAR applications. There is
    dependences between both applications ( I will call them FirstEAR and SecondEAR)
    . A FirstEAR EJB ( FirstEAREJB) uses an EJB from the SecondEAR ( SecondEAREJB
    The deployment result is a "Unable to initialize method info for remote or home
    interface The error is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: myPackage.myPackage.SECONDEAREJB"
    when deploy the FirstEAREJB. I try the deployment of both using -iiop ejbc option.
    Which is the way to allow my FirstEAREJB to use SECONDEAREJB?
    I have try
    - to set the manifest Class-Path property for FirstEAREJB with no results.
    - to set the descriptor ejb-jar properties for EJBRefs with no results.
    - to set the SecondEAREJB path in the weblogic start script classpath, with no
    results.
    - to set the SecondEAR classpath at the ejbc -cp option for FirstEAREJB ejbc
    compile, with no results again.
    Is there another way to allow my FirstEAREJB to use SecondEAREJB ?

    Take a look at this documentation on WebLogic Server Application
    Classloading.
    It might be helpful.

  • Call EJB from a XI Javamapping

    I have developed a simple EAR which contains a CMP with local and remote interfaces. This cmp may be successfully called using the remote-interface from a client (j2se) project. Now i like to call the same CMP from within a XI JavaMapping. In the execute method i am using the following code:
              InitialContext ctx;
              MeraConfigurationLocal configLocal = null;
              try {
                   ctx = new InitialContext();
                   Object obj = ctx.lookup("localejbs/mgb.ch/XIMera_EAR/MeraConfigurationBean");
                   if (trace != null)
                        trace.addInfo("Got object from jndi: "+obj);
                   MeraConfigurationLocalHome configHome =     (MeraConfigurationLocalHome)obj;
                   if (configHome !=null) {
                        if (trace != null)
                             trace.addInfo("ConfigurationLocalHome: "+configHome);
                   configLocal = configHome.create();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   throw new StreamTransformationException(e.getMessage(), e);
              int port = Integer.parseInt(
                        configLocal.ReadParam(MeraResourcePoolDispatcherService.CFG_GENERAL_LISTENER_PORT));
              if (trace != null)
                   trace.addInfo("Got listenerport from localejbs/mgb.ch/XIMera_EAR/MeraConfigBean: "+port);
    after calling ctx.lookup ... i got the following traceentry in xi:
      <Trace level="1" type="T">*** START APPLICATION TRACE ***</Trace>
      <Trace level="2" type="T">Got object from jndi: [email protected]30</Trace>
      <Trace level="1" type="T">*** END APPLICATION TRACE ***</Trace>
    when i try to cast this obj into a MeraConfigurationLocal the system is throwing a ClassCastException

  • Call ejb from browsers

    Hello Developers!
    I deployed my ejb to OAS4081. I call that
    from JDeveloper so it good. But when I try
    to call from applet in IExpl5 I can't
    instantiate the ORB. I've got a com.ms.security.SecurityException : oracle.oas.orb.CORBA.ORB.init
    I coded the CLASSPATH(oasoorb(yoj),client,
    ejbapi...) perfectly, I think.
    If anybody could help, please...
    Thanx!

    Hi there,
              I saw someone on this group had a problem to locate proper classpath
              to call EJB from JSP. I thought if you call EJB from classpath, you are
              calling the bean. But you loss all the EJB functions. To be able to utilize
              EJB features like object pooling. You need to call it from Weblogic server
              using url/jndi, not from the jar directly.
              Any comment? Am I right?
              BTW, my question about calling EJB from JSP means calling through URL,
              not a local path.
              Thank you
