Camera RAW opens CS5 not CS6

I have upgraded to CS6 from CS5, but CS5 opens when I open an image from RAW, not CS6. How do I stop it from using CS5?

What happens if you File > Open your RAW file from Photoshop CS6?
Edit: What’s your OS?

  • Can't open files in Camera Raw while in Bridge CS6

    05/30/2014
Believe this issue/problem happened after automatic update from Adobe (but can't be sure).
Have always uploaded files from camera into Bridge then do some editing by opening JPEG and RAW (NEF) files in Camera Raw from Bridge.
Now, "Open in Camera Raw" is greyed out and I am unable to find a way to open files with Camera Raw from inside Bridge CS6.  This seemed to happen suddenly and without any new software or applications being added to computer.  All other apps/software working well.
Have tried various fixes found on Adobe community discussions without success.  Problem now ongoing for over a week +.
Am able to open files in Photoshop with no problem but want to be able to do some quick edits using Camera Raw opening files from Bridge CS6.
I'm using Bridge CS6 Version 5.0.2.4.  (as part of Adobe Creative Suite 6).  Updater states I have most current version of Bridge installed.
I'm using an iMac computer with Intel Core i7 processor
    OS X 10.8.5
Have found others with this same or very similar problems on forums but either can't understand patches/directions or unable to complete instructions on my computer.
for example see:  Camera RAW update issue with Bridge CS6
From that link/discussion, one finds this "solution":
After you update to Camera Raw 8.4, Bridge CS6 in Mac OS doesn't display image metadata or allow you to edit images in Camera Raw.
    To the top
Manually install the Camera Raw 8.4 plug-in.
    Exit Adobe Bridge.
    Download the file below.
Locate and double-click the downloaded file to decompress it. The resulting file is Camera Raw.plugin.
Navigate to the Macintosh HD folder.
Open the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS6/File Formats folder.
IMPORTANT: Navigate to the root Library folder on your hard disk, not the Library folder under your user folder.
Copy the Camera Raw.plugin from step 3 into the File Formats folder.
IMPORTANT: This new file overwrites the file already in this folder. It's important that only one Camera Raw.plugin file is in this folder.
    Open Adobe Bridge.
    Camera Raw.plugin.zip
Mac OS Camera Raw 8.4 plug-in for manual installation
However, when I try the above, I have these issues:
    1.  When I double click on the downloaded file, my computer opens PhotoShop and an error message is displayed that states "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."  (I suspect this may mean my computer has automatically decompressed the file, but I am not certain of that).
    2.  Not completely certain I know how to "Navigate to the Macintosh HD folder" as suggested in step 4. above (OK, I'm new to Mac; long-time PC user….)
    3.  When I am in "Finder" and click on "GO" while holding down "Option" key, I find "Library".  within that, I can find "Library/Application Support/Adobe" but there is no "Plug-Ins" folder within the "Adobe" subfolder.
    4.  Not sure how to tell if I am in the "root Library" on my hard disk vs. "Library under my user folder".  (Again, new to Mac….)
I have NOT yet tried doing an "Uninstall" and then Re-installing the whole Adobe Creative Suite 6 and would like to avoid that if possible.
Would absolutely LOVE it if Adobe would simply push an update that would fix this problem or if someone would explain to me how I could restore the earlier version that worked perfectly for me.
Any help, suggestions (in very basic, simple terms that any idiot new to the world of Macintosh can understand) would be appreciated.  Very frustrated with Adobe at the moment.
Mostly have liked the switch to Mac, but with this and my photo workflow coming to a screeching halt, having second thoughts.  (But I suppose Adobe update for PC may cause problems as well.)
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

Literally minutes after I posted the above, I figured this out myself and now I'm a happy camper and things are back to normal!
Here was my error/issue:  as a new Mac user, I was not negotiating/finding files on my hard drive correctly.
In case there are others out there with this same issue (and as dense as I apparently am ):
Here is what I did that resulted in a fix:
    First Steps:
    1. Quit/close Bridge
    2. As noted in post above, go to this link to download Camera Raw Plugin file:
Camera RAW update issue with Bridge CS6
Link to get to download is near end of instructions, but I will attempt to insert that link to download here:
    Camera Raw.plugin.zip
    3.  Once file has been downloaded, find it by using "Finder" Click on "Finder" and look on list of options on left side of Finder window to find "Downloads".  On my computer, when clicking on "Finder" these options appear in the list at the left:
    All My Files
    Airdrop
    Applications
    Desktop
    Documents
    Downloads
    Movies
    Music
    Pictures
    4.  Download you just did should be at or near the top of your downloads list and should be named as "Camera Raw.plugin"  and will be 83.5 MB in size
    5.  I right-clicked (two fingers on touchpad) to bring up drop down options and selected "Copy 'Camera Raw.plugin'" from that list to copy file.
Now, you have copied the plug in that will fix this issue.  The second set of steps below will walk you through how to replace the file that is on your hard drive with this plug in file that you have copied.
Second set of steps (and this is where, as a new Mac user, I was confused initially)
    1. Again, click on "Finder" on your Mac
    2.  On top of screen, find "GO" and click on that.  (You should see "Finder" in the upper right corner of your screen, then "File, Edit, View, GO, Window, Help"  Click on the GO
    3.  In drop down menu that appears, click on "Computer"
    4.  Then, double click on "Macintosh HD" to open your hard drive
    5.  Next, double click on "Library" folder to open that.
    6.  Next, click on "Application Support" folder to open that.
    7.  Then, double click on "Adobe" folder to open that.
    8.  Then, double click  on "Plug Ins" folder to open that
    9.  Now, double click on "CS6" to open that folder.
    10.  Finally, double click on the "File Formats" folder that appears.
    11.  NOW, you should see this:
    12.  Right click (two finger press if using a touch pad) to open window with options.  Select "Paste Item" by clicking on that option.
    13.  You will be prompted with an option to keep existing file OR replace the file.  Choose "Replace" to past the new "Camera Raw.plugin" file to this folder.
Finally, if you now go back and open Bridge CS6, you should be good to go.
Hope that helps someone out there.
Hopefully future updates will from Adobe will be better.

  • Bridge CS6 insist to open Camera raw files via Photoshop CS6 instead of CC

    Hi
I´ve trying to start using Photoshop CC instead of CS6. The problem is that my Bridge CS6 is opening Camera RAWs to Photoshop CS6 as a default instead of CC. I`ve changed Finder defaults and as well as Bridges own File type assosiations to use Photoshop CC as a default, but still it isnt working. I wouldnt want to delete Photoshop CS6 completely.
    Any help, anyone?

Which version mac os x are you using?
If it's mac os x 10.6.8 snow leopard, then post back before installing bridge cc.
I believe you need to install bridge cc so your camera raw files will open from the camera raw dialog in bridge cc to photoshop cc.
Also of note is the camera raw version for bridge cs6 doesn't have any of the new features that the bridge cc version of camera raw has.
If you open the the Creative Cloud Desktop.app, then you should see Bridge CC available for install.

You were probably using the Release Candidate version of camera raw 8.7, which one gets from Adobe Labs.

I have used camera raw a different way but it won't seem to work with bridge.

Have you opened Photoshop or any other Adobe app that Bridge works with?  You need to do this if you've upgraded PS or just signed up for CC.

Camerea Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.' I have tried launching bridge in all the other Adobe products, uninstalling all trial versions from my computer and reinstalling all adobe cloud products, but still this warning comes up and I can't open jpeg and till images with Camera Raw as I did with CC5. • How to get Camera RAW / Photoshop CS5 to work with Canon 100D?

How to get Camera RAW / Photoshop CS5 to work with Canon 100D? I don't want to by this product again and again...

In what way is ACR not working in Bridge?  Is there no right-click Open in Camera Raw available from Bridge, or there is, but the ACR version is less than ACR 6.7.1 or what exactly is the issue?
Also, if you open Photoshop and do Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw, is ACR missing from the list, or if not, what version does it say is installed?
You might also want to describe what methods you have tried to correct the issue, since saying you've tried what you've seen posted and they didn't work, isn't really much to go on.

  • Canon 70D et Camera Raw (Photoshop CS5)

J'ai acheté un canon EOS 70D. Je n'arrive pas à utiliser Camera Raw (Photoshop CS5) avec cet appareil. Can you help me ?

Photoshop CS5 is not going to be able to directly open your raw files.
Adobe stopped updating older versions to be able to read raw files from newer cameras when they released a new major version of Photoshop. Photoshop CS5 is no longer receiving Camera Raw updates.
    To double check this yourself:
First you need to determine whether Adobe has released support for your new camera in your version of Photoshop. To do that, look at these two pages. You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Since your version of Photoshop cannot support your camera, you can download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, which can take your raw files as input and put out DNG format files, which your version of Photoshop can open.
Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
The DNG converter DOES work, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop. Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.

  • Can't Upgrade to Camera Raw 8.2 in CS6

Downloaded Camera Raw 8.2 and ran the installer; it seemed to go fine. But, I don't think CS6 is recognizing it. Under Help/ Systems and Updates, it still lists ACR 7.4 as the raw converter. When I try to open a Canon 70D CR-2 file, which ACR 8.2 will cover, I get the msg: "Make sure you have the latest camera raw update in Help/ Updates".  8.2 is not being replaced in CS6. What's going on?

Install what Help / Update offers.  "Camera Raw 7" is what ACR for CS6 is called even though it is up to 8.x, now.  This is to distinguish it from PS-CC's ACR updates which are designated as "Camera Raw 8".  Despite the Updates designations being different numeric versions they are indeed the same update which will be ACR 8.3, by now.
I have PSElements-11, PS-CS6 and PS-CC on my computer and I have Camera Raw, Camera Raw 7 and Camera Raw 8 as ACR updates that are checked for.  If there was only ever one ACR update checked for and offered you couldn't update ACR for various products.
On a Windows 7 64-bit system there should be two CR plug-ins, one for the 32-bit version of PS under Program Files (x86) and one for the 64-bit PS under Program Files.  Is it possible that you only have the 32-bit or 64-bit version of PS-CS6 installed or were there actually two Camera Raw.8bi files for CS6 and you only mentioned one?  If there was indeed only one, then perhaps something isn't isntalled entirely correctly and that is stopping the updates from working.  The only way to fix that would be to uninstall CS6 entirely, then re-install it which should put both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions on including the two ACR 7.x plug-ins, then do a Help / Updates and install the latest ACR 8.3 update.
But before you do all that what does running Help / Updates do with Camera Raw 7 as the selected update?  Does that complete or does it fail?

No, because I know nothing about your setup.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.

  • Camera Raw editing is not enabled - ACR5.4 Vista 64bit

When I use Bridge, and right click and select to open a raw file in Camera Raw, I get this message:
"Camera Raw editing is not enabled. Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature".
There is no problem in Bridge when opening a raw file in Camera Raw when just Open With (PS) or double-clicking
I have seen many have the same problem, and I have tried most of the hints found in forums, but no luck.
I running Windows Vista 64bit. Installed and activated Photoshop CS4 in the standard directories and installed ACR 5.4 manually as described by Adobe by copy the plugin files to folders:
    Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats\
    Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats\
There are no other files in this 2 directories.
I have tried purging cache, and have closed both Brigde and Photoshop and startet Bridge from Photoshop by using -file, -browse in Bridge. And still the same problem.
There are no errors in the files alm.log and amt.log in %temp% directory.
    Thanks for any help

I have just upgraded to Win 7 64bit and have had a similar problem with getting "Camera Raw editing is not enabled" in Bridge
I had installed CS4 as a trial whilst I tested that my install of Win 7 was OK
When I activated CS4 I was using CS4 64 bit and never got the "I have deactivated the software from another machine" question
I tried lost of things to get Camera Raw editing in Bridge and all failed.
When I tried CS4 32 bit it wanted to activate the software - it  asked the "I have deactivated the software from another machine" question and then rejected the activation as two PC were using the key.
I deactivated CS4 from the 64bit side and removed the key
Then I activated using CS4 32bit - all seems OK now
    Hope this works for you
