Can grow and Vertical Alignment

Post Author: David Jones
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
I have a report that has several cells in the Page Header section and they have the Can Grow option. I want to be able to align the cells in this row to the bottom and when  any of the cells grow they stay aligned on the bottom. Does anyone know how to do this or if this is possible? Thanks!

Simply create different rows of headers in different "page header".
Right click on the place where "Page Header" is displayed. And click on insert a new section below. Now on the top of lower page header section draw a line. 1st page header section will grow with its contents, and second header row will slide down.

  • Basic questions about word spacing and vertical alignment with CSS

    I'm sill very new to Dreamweaver and web page designing. I've
    read the entire manual SC3, one book, and starting another but I
    have almost 0 practice.
    Q1. so far I haven't been able to produce the effect of the
    Word Spacing property. I tried all kinds of tests and I don't know
    in what scenario this effect will show. Can someone give me a
    simple example that shows the effect of this CSS property.
    Q2. Vertical Alignment: this works well with images inserted
    into text but I also expected this to work with text against other
    text. For example I typed TEST© and assigned a different SCC
    style to the © so that I can make it smaller and put it up
    with the Vertical Alignment property. Surprisingly this propery
    didn't produce any effect. How is htis suppose to be done?

    You forgot to wrap your text in <p> tags so the style
    rule you created
    doesn't apply.

  • Can table cell vertical alignment be defined via CSS?

    In a table cell (ie, "td") is there a way to define "valign" via CSS, instead of the table cell proper?
    In other words, instead of...
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td valign="top">
    ...is it possible to do :
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td class="top">
    ...and somehow let the stylesheet define the vertical alignment?
    I'm asking because none of the attribute presets in Dreamweaver CS4 seem to provide for vertical alignment. Everything else on God's green earth seems to be there, but table cell vertical alignment seems to be the ONLY thing CSS forgot about.

    How about giving the class "top": text-align:center. Or even the tag "td" in your stylesheet. Does that help?

  • Vertical Alignment in table columns

    Using JHeadstart 10.1.3.4.
    Different display types are differently positioned in table columns. Single text seems vertically centered; text fields with multiple lines are vertically aligned at the top of a table column; vertical radio buttons are vertically aligned at the bottom of a table column. The resulting display is quite messy.
    I have not found any formating option in JHeadStart that allows for controlling vertical alignment. Am I a missing something?
    If JHeadStart 10g does not support controlling vertical alignment directly, how should this be handled? Does JHeadStart 11g add such vertical alignment support?

    Hello,
    If you need anything special considering vertical alignment in tables, you can simply perform that in the resulting JSPX page. In other words, just alter the JSPX file to whatever you need.
    Save your customizations in JHeadstart using velocity templates, so your page is regenerateable while keeping your changes. See the JHeadstart Developers Guide on how to change such customizations in the templates.
    Also in release 11 there is no vertical alignment (yet); I suppose because for most tables, each row just has a single line and vertical alignment is therefore not needed. However, I have put it on the wish-list, so we will check on it later. Thanks!

  • VERTICAL ALIGNMENT ON WORD TABLE IS MISS.

    Hello everybody,
    Can somebody clear my mind? I did the code below, and this generates a beautiful and clean table on word 2010. The problem is that the instruction “.Rows.Height = 8” and
    “.Cells.VerticalAlignment = Word.WdCellVerticalAlignment.wdCellAlignVerticalCenter” seems
     not work, besides, when I try to adjust the rows height and vertical alignment by myself, after routine generates the table of course, Word don´t allow me to do these adjustment by hand.
    The property “.Rows.Height = 8” seems to be working, because when I change to “.Rows.Height = 25” the rows height really goes to it, also, there is no problem with horizontal alignment, this is work very fine.
    Working with VS 2012 and Word 2010.
    Tried everything, no result….
    Thank you.

    I am not able to understand the issue exactly. Can you set the height for the rows using Rows.Height? I made a quick test using VBA based on the code above, it works well for me. And I can also adjust by hand after run the code.
    >> “.Cells.VerticalAlignment = Word.WdCellVerticalAlignment.wdCellAlignVerticalCenter” seems

    What effect did you want to achieve? Based on the code samlpe you were setting the verical alignment to bottom however the description are center. Both center and bottom for the vertical alignment works well for me.
    I would suggest that you test the code using a new document to see whether the issue is realtive to the specific document. Here is the test code in VBA for your reference:

  • Field value not working as "Can grow" when exported in PDF

    Hi, I have a unique problem. We have a report which is using a sub-report. When we run that report in Crystal report and preview then it looks fine. This subreport is designated as "can  grow" so if the field length is bigger than the size then it is coming in the second row. Everything works fine except when we export this report in PDF.
    When we export in PDF then this field is not working as "Can grow" and remaining value of the fields is  truncated. This is happening both in XI and 2008 version of Crystal client.
    Thanks,

    Hi, This is declared as bug by Business Objects Support and Product team will decide if they want to include fix in next release (or fix). This is not possible before Dec 2009 or Early 2010.
    Below are the general steps on how to apply the suggested workaround:
    1. Remove the on-demand subreport caption, and add an empty string to it instead.
    1.1 In the u201CDesignu201D view of the report, right click on the subreport and select u201CFormat Subreportu2026u201D
    1.2 In u201CFormat Editoru201D window, under the tab u201CSubreportu201D, click on the u201CX-2u201D button of the option u201COn-Demand Subreport Captionu201D
    1.3 In the u201CFormula Workshopu201D window, highlight the text in the formula, and cut it. ( Ctrl-X)
    ( We are just copying the text, as we need to use the samething for the formula or text object we will use to replace this. )
    1.4 Type the following in the formula: u201Cu201D
    1.5 Click on the button u201CSave and closeu201D, to close the u201CFormula Workshopu201D
    1.6 Back to the u201CFormat Editoru201D window, click on the u201COKu201D button to accept the change.
    2. Create a formula or insert a text object in which you add the text or fields you will like to display
    ( In the following steps we will be using a formula )
    2.1 In the u201CField Exploreru201D, right click on u201CFormula Fieldsu201D and select u201CNewu201D
    2.2 In the u201CFormula Nameu201D window, type the name of the formula. ( Example: My subreport caption )
    2.3 In the u201CFormula Workshopu201D, copy the text you cut in step 1.3, or simply add the database fields and text you will like to display for your on-demand subreport caption.
    2.4 Save and close the formula by clicking on the u201CSave and closeu201D button
    3. Insert the formula over the on-demand subreport, and resize the field to be of the desired length.
    4. Format the formula to display like a hyperlink. ( Blue font and underlined text )
    4.1 Right click on the formula inserted in step 3, and select u201CFormat Fieldu2026u201D
    4.2 In the u201CFormat Editoru201D, under the tab u201CFontu201D, set the color to blue
    4.3 Still under the tab u201CFontu201D, check the u201CEffectsu201D option u201CUnderlineu201D
    4.4 Under the tab u201CCommonu201D, check the option u201CCan Growu201D
    4.5 Click on the u201COKu201D button to accept the change
    5. Move the formula to the back in order to ensure you can drill-down on the on-demand subreport
    5.1 Right click on the formula inserted above the on-demand subreport and select u201CMove u2013 To Backu201D
    Now, when exporting the report to PDF format, the formula used to replace the u201Con-demand subreport captionu201D that displays more than one line will all be exported.
    This workaround has following limitations:
    The User can see the service description in two lines because of the u2018Text Objectu2019, the On demand subreport is not growing into the second line in the crystal report since we removed the caption.
    So the user has to carefully click on the first line of the description in the main report to open the subreport. If he clicks on the second line then it wonu2019t open the required subreport and it may create confusion.
    If we manually stretch out the subreport to occupy two lines space then it will leave a gap in between when we have only 1 line service description.
    So plan ahead of time about how lengthy text in su-report would be.

  • Can Grow Vertical Alignment Error in Embedded Report View, but not in .PDF

    Hello,
    I have seen postings about this issue before, but have yet to find a solution.
    I am using Visual Studio 2008 w/ the basic version of Crystal Reports that is included.
    I have a simple report that displays results of a stored procedure as rows across the report.  One field can be of variable length, anywhere from 0 to 100 characters.  Usually it's something reasonable (less than 40 chars), and so I have only given it so much width in the report.  For when it is longer than that, I turned the "Can Grow" property ON, and set the Maximum Number of Lines property to 0.
    When the report displays embedded in my Web Form, and this field's data is wider than the space I have allowed, it breaks the data down into multiple lines of the same correct width, as you'd expect, but those lines end up displaced vertically upward several rows, and print directly on top of other data from the above rows, make the report unreadable in that area (and quite ugly overall!).
    If I export this report to a .PDF, it displays perfectly, without the vertical displacement error.
    Anyone know what the official work is on this?  Is there a fix or is this a bug?
    If there is no fix, does anyone know how to direct the report to the .PDF file viewer, so the embedded report remains invisible (and thus hides the ugly error), but the user has the .PDF version to see?  My client ultimately wants to export the report to .PDF, which I have already coded, but it does not open the .PDF Viewer, just saves the report to disk.  However, if I use the Crystal built-in Export button, it first displays a pop-up asking which format to export to, then if .PDF is chosen and okay is clicked, the pop-up switches to contain the .PDF Viewer, and opens the report.  In my user-defined export code, the .PDF is correctly created, but I am missing the step on how to open the .PDF Viewer.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the responses.
    Jonathan, moving the field in question to its own details section (details B) did not fix the issue.  The field in question is moved slightly down as its in a new details section with sits slightly lower than details A, but when it has to be broken up into multiple lines, the same issue arises, the field text is displaced vertically upward and sits on top of other data.
    Ludek, I wanted to send the report to a .PDF Viewer in a new browser, and keep the original browser intact.  I'm using code very similar to yours.  To launch the new broswer I added this code to the Page_Load of my main browser:
    btnViewReport.Attributes.Add("onclick", "window.open(Page.aspx', """", """", 'height=200,width=400')")
    When the button is clicked the report is exported, and the new browser opens Page.aspx.
    I use this code in Page_Load of Page.aspx:
            Dim webClient As System.Net.WebClient = New System.Net.WebClient()
            Dim buffer As Byte() = webClient.DownloadData("C:\Reports\Report.pdf")
            If Not buffer.Length.Equals(0) Then
                Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"
                Response.AddHeader("content-length", buffer.Length.ToString())
                Response.BinaryWrite(buffer)
            End If
    Any other ideas on the original vertical displacement issue when using Can Grow, I'd still appreciate it.

  • Image positioning in a div, vertical and central alignment

    Can any body help me with this please.
    I have a row of logo images displayed across a page like this example working perfectly on my test site http://thewebsitedeveloper.co.nz/thinkRedTest/pattonNz/suppliersTemplateCombined.html
    On the actual Business catalyst site the same code is not accepting the verticval alignment and is positioning the image  at the top of the div. Seen here http://pattonnz.businesscatalyst.com/suppliers_NZ
    Can anybody tell me why this is/how to fix it? I have Googled but found no BC specific fixes.
    Here is the relevant html/css info.
    HTML
    <div class="logoBand">
       <div class="supplierBox">
           <div class="supplierLogo">
                <img src="images/suppliersLogo/hidria.jpg" alt="Hidria logo" >
            </div>
            <div class="supplierName">
                External Rotor Fans
             </div>
       </div>
    </div>
    CSS
    .suppliers{float:left; width:890px; height:auto; margin-bottom:30px; }
    .logoBand {float:left; width:890px; height:100px; margin-bottom:30px;}
    .supplierBox{float:left; width:211px; height:auto;}
    .supplierLogo{float:left; width:211px; height:90px; line-height:90px; text-align:center;}
    .supplierLogo img{ vertical-align:middle;}
    .supplierName{float:left; width:211px; height:auto; font-size:.625em;text-align:center;}
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Liam (and anybody else with the same problem), I found a fix. By adding
    a span tag just before the image I am able to get the effect I'm after in
    Business catalyst. I don't really understand how it does it, but it works,
    in all browsers too = I'm happy. Here it is working
    http://pattonnz.businesscatalyst.com/suppliers_NZ
    CSS
    .logoBand {float:left; width:890px; height:100px; margin-bottom:30px;}
    .supplierBox{float:left; width:211px; height:auto;}
    .supplierLogo{float:left; width:211px; height:90px; line-height:90px; text-align:center;}
    .helper {     display: inline-block;    height: 100%;    vertical-align: middle;}
    .supplierLogo img{ vertical-align:middle;}
    .supplierName{float:left; width:211px; height:auto; font-size:.625em;text-align:center;}
    HTML
    <div class="supplierBox">
        <div class="supplierLogo">
         <span class="helper"></span>
            <img src="images/suppliersLogo/frascold.jpg" alt="Frascold logo" />
         </div>
         <div class="supplierName">
            Screw &amp; Semi-Hermetic Compressors
         </div>
    </div>

  • Vertical Alignment and Loading

    Two questions. I've just uploaded a client's site as a
    sub-folder of my own in order to test it out.
    www.rebeccapike.co.uk/home.html
    I want to know how to center the page horizontally having
    used <div> tags and placed everything within a base layer.
    I'm sure this is done in the properties inspector somewhere but I
    can't work it out.
    Secondly, some of the pages don't seem to be loading when you
    link to them. For example if you go to the main menu
    (www.rebeccapike.co.uk/menu.html) and click the "photographie"
    link, the page only seems to load after clicking refresh a few
    times... could someone tell me why?
    Thanks very much in advance.
    Rebecca

    Okay - you're really not making much sense here. Your subject
    reads
    "Vertical Alignment and Loading" and yet you're asking about
    horizontal
    alignment, so - which is it?
    Horizontal: <div style="margin: 0 auto">...</div>
    Vertical + Horizontal:
    http://www.apptools.com/examples/tableheight.php
    Also - I have no problems loading the "Photographie" link in
    both Firefox
    1.5.04 and IE6 on Windows XP - they both load instantly with
    one click.
    BTW: That is an incorrect spelling of the word, photography -
    but I assumed
    or *hoped* you already knew that.

  • "Vertical Align Center" Text and a Shape

    Hi designers,
    I wonder if anyone could give me a hand with aligning text and shapes? I would like to align a number to the center of a circle. "Horizontal Align Center" works well. "Vertical Align Center", however, does not yield the desired result. The number turns out to be higher in the cycle (see figure below). The distance from the top of the circle to the top of the number zero, X, is shorter than the distance between the bottom of the circle and the bottom of the number zero. Is it possible to equal these two distances?
    Figure 1: The Outcome of Vertical Align Center
    Thanks,
    Haobo

    Hi Mylenium,
    Thank you very much for you very prompt reply, which solves the problem very effectively.
    If you do not mind, I have got two further questions.
    Firstly, is there an option similar to "Align to Path: Centre" under "Type on a Path Options" that changes how text is aligned?
    Secondly, does InDesign offer the aforementioned function?
    I sometimes label a large quantity of locations with alphanumeric characters, which are subject to frequent changes, and therefore would like to preserve the text if possible. I have heard that manipulating text is InDesign's area of expertise. If this function is not available in Illustrator but offered by InDesign, I can jot down another reason for acquiring the latter and split the workflow in the future.
    Thanks,
    Haobo

  • Vertical alignment in a cell and IE

    In this page www.gk-developers.com, on IE, the navigation
    menu is showing up midway along the page when it should be right at
    the top. The table cell has the vertical align instruction but IE
    seems to ignore it. What gives?

  • Graphic and title vertically aligned

    I'm trying to set up graphic images with numbered titles (captions) aligned to the left of the image. I have a single column layout with a side head. I'd like the graphics to go in the column and the title to go in the left side head, vertically aligned with the top of the graphic.
    My graphic title format has side head alignment and is in the right place. The anchor for the frame that holds the graphic is at the end of the title paragraph. I've tried different anchoring positions, but can't seem to get the frame in the column, vertically aligned with the title. Has anyone done this?

    You need to adjust the settings in the respective paratgs.
    For the Figure Caption paratag, set the Side Head-Alignment to be "Top Edge".
    For the Anchored frame in the next paratag set it to be at insertion point.
    Having a paragraph between the graphic title and the frame, breaks the "Keep with Next" between the two, leaving the possiblitly of having the title on one page and the graphic on the next.
    The anchored frame should be in that next paratag. There shouldn't be anything in between.
    If I follow your requirements, it looks something like this:

  • How can I vertically align items that are in different regions

    Hello,
    I am a novice developer in APEX. I am creating a page which has 4 regions on it. Right now it looks like the following:
    ----region 1----------------------
    label: field label4: field
    -----region 2--- region 3--
    label: field label45: field
    -----region 4---------------------
    label:field [one-item-worth-of-space. next item aligned to right of item below]long_label: field
    label: field label: field
    I am trying to vertically align the items in these regions, in such a way that all the colons are vertically aligned.
    I am having a particular alignment problem in region 4, column 2 (item are bold). Both label:field, and long_label:field in region 4 have the same vertical/horizontal alignment option as the rest of the region (right for label, left for field). For some reason, there is one item space between these two items. This space is removed if I switch the two fields.
    I would really appreciate any help trying to understand
    - how to remove the one-item-equivalent space between two items in region 4
    - how to vertically align all these fields in different regions on one page.
    I tried to create the original scenario in bold, but the post would not allow space formatting. I apologise if it is difficult to understand
    Thank you in advance for your time.
