Can I call a stored procedure which has DMLs from a function ??

Hello all,
Here is my req. I Want to use a function which in turn executes a procedure to populate a table. This procedure inserts data into a table .
How can I make it work.?
thanks,
Dnakka

Hi,
Here is an example procedure and a function.
The procedure:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE proc1 AS
BEGIN
INSERT INTO tab1 VALUES(1, 'some string value');
COMMIT;
END;
The function which calls proc1:
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION func1 RETURN VARCHAR2 AS
BEGIN
proc1;
RETURN 'done';
END;
Hope that helps.
Savitha.

    Interesting to note is the fact that varchar2 variables as parameters to stored
    procedures (in in/out out) may be "only" 32512 bytes long.
    I've checked this in Java and Perl. 32512 is the last value that works, for any
    bigger it throws:
    Exception in thread "main" java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01460: unimplemented or

    But in PL/SQL as you said 32767

  • Can i call a stored procedure from OracleDashboardPrompt?

    Hi,
    Can i call a stored procedure from OracleDashboardPrompt once i click the Go button in OBIEE?The input parameters to the procedure are the one that i have given in DashboardPrompt.and based on the result of the procedure(either 0 or 1),i have to display reports.Can anyone help me.
    Thanks in Advance...

    Please find below the possible approach to the scenario:
    1.Create a prompt for the column which you need as input to store proc and create a presentation variable for that .
    2.Create a dummy report with 1 column which will have the above created presentation variable as filter(We can design this reports in such a way like the first column will get filtered based on the presentation variable)
    3.Create a second column and in the column definition we can add a code like
    evaluate('StoreProc(%1)','@{firstcolumn}')
    4.We can hide the first column in the report and only show the output of store proc to the end user
    Hope this helps :)

  • How to call a stored procedure that has Table Of data types in VB6?

    Hi everyone,
    I need to call a stored procedure that has a Table Of data type as an input parameter (possibly even several Table Of input parameters). I can't seem to find any example of how to do this in VB6 using ODBC. Is this even possible?
    Thanks you!
    Steve

    Thanks,
    but I need to test stored procedures that uses type defined in the package.
    e.g.
    if I have s.p.
    PROCEDURE get_risultati_squadra
    ( in_squadra IN VARCHAR2,
    out_serie OUT tab_varchar2_5,
    out_tiporisultato OUT tab_varchar2_5,

    out_rimbalzista OUT tab_varchar2_50,
    out_rimbalzi OUT tab_varchar2_3,
    out_esito OUT tab_varchar2_2);
    I have to define every type external to the package, in this case five new TYPE !!
    Is there another way to solve this problem?

  • Calling a Stored Procedure with output parameters from Query Templates

    This is same problem which Shalaka Khandekar logged earlier. This new thread gives the complete description about our problem. Please go through this problem and suggest us a feasible solution.
    We encountered a problem while calling a stored procedure from MII Query Template as follows-
    1. Stored Procedure is defined in a package. Procedure takes the below inputs and outputs.
    a) Input1 - CLOB
    b) Input2 - CLOB
    c) Input3 - CLOB
    d) Output1 - CLOB
    e) Output2 - CLOB
    f) Output3 - Varchar2
    2. There are two ways to get the output back.
    a) Using a Stored Procedure by declaring necessary OUT parameters.
    b) Using a Function which returns a single value.
    3. Consider we are using method 2-a. To call a Stored Procedure with OUT parameters from the Query Template we need to declare variables of
    corresponding types and pass them to the Stored Procedure along with the necessary input parameters.
    4. This method is not a solution to get output because we cannot declare variables of some type(CLOB, Varchar2) in Query Template.
    5. Even though we are successful (step 4) in declaring the OUT variables in Query Template and passed it successfully to the procedure, but our procedure contains outputs which are of type CLOB. It means we are going to get data which is more than VARCHAR2 length which query template cannot return(Limit is 32767
    characters)
    6. So the method 2-a is ruled out.
    7. Now consider method 2-b. Function returns only one value, but we have 3 different OUT values. Assume that we have appended them using a separator. This value is going to be more than 32767 characters which is again a problem with the query template(refer to point 5). So option 2-b is also ruled out.
    Apart from above mentioned methods there is a work around. It is to create a temporary table in the database with above 3 OUT parameters along with a session specific column. We insert the output which we got from the procedure to the temporary table and use it further. As soon the usage of the data is completed we delete the current session specific data. So indirectly we call the table as a Session Table. This solution increases unnecessary load on the database.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Rajesh

    Rajesh,
    please check if this following proposal could serve you.
    Define the Query with mode FixedQueryWithOutput. In the package define a ref cursor as IN OUT parameter. To get your 3 values back, open the cursor in your procedure like "Select val1, val2, val3 from dual". Then the values should get into your query.
    Here is an example how this could be defined.
    Package:
    type return_cur IS ref CURSOR;
    Procedure:
    PROCEDURE myProc(myReturnCur IN OUT return_cur) ...
    OPEN myReturnCur FOR SELECT val1, val2, val3  FROM dual;
    Query:
    DECLARE
      MYRETURNCUR myPackage.return_cur;
    BEGIN
      myPackage.myProc(
        MYRETURNCUR => ?
    END;
    Good luck.

  • Can I create a Stored Procedure That access data from tables of another servers?

    I'm developing a procedure and within it I'm trying to access another server and make a select into a table that belongs to this another server. When I compile this procedure I have this error message: " PLS-00904: insufficient privilege to access object BC.CADPAP", where BC.CADPAP is the problematic table.
    How can I use more than one connection into an Oracle Stored Procedure?
    How I can access tables of a server from a Stored Procedure since the moment I'm already connected with another server?
    Can I create a Stored Procedure That access data from tables of another servers?

    You need to have a Database Link between two servers. Then you could do execute that statement without any problem. Try to create a database link with the help of
    CREATE DATABASE LINK command. Refer Document for further details

  • Can we call a stored procedure in a select statement

    Hi All
    I want to call a stored procedure inside a select statement is this possible.
    Regards
    Sravz

    You can create a pipelined function which gathers the data from your stored procedure and then use that in a select statement or directly write your script in any function or pipelined function. ;)
    There is no way you can call any stored procedure in a SELECT statement directly - i guess.

  • How to call a write procedures which has output parameters in an xsodata service?

    Hi,
    I have a use case where we call a Stored procedure from an xsodata service, where in I also need some output from procedure.
    We couldn’t achieve this because whenever I pass some output from my procedure , framework is considering the response as an error always.
    Looks like we cannot pass back any values apart from errors.
    Since we are doing some insert statements in our procedure I couldn't even wrap the procedure using calculation view
    because from calculation view we can call only call only read only procedure.
    What is the right way of calling a write procedure which returns some output always apart from error from an xsodata service?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Arjun

    Another suggestion Arjun,
    you said you have a writeable procedure with you, which will return a result set after the processing. You split the procedure into two, one writeable and one read only, so that the writeable will update the data, and read only procedure would return the required result set. The, use xsjs to call the writeable, and use xsodata to call the read only procedure(complicate it man ).

  • Calling a stored procedure which returns a UDT

    Hi devs,
    Recently I've come across this requirement where I need to get a Oracle UDT returned from a stored procedure. The stored procedure I've used is described below.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE test_proc(param_id IN NUMBER, cust OUT CUSTOMER)
    IS
    BEGIN
    SELECT customer INTO cust from CUS_T where id=param_id;
    END;
    the type CUSTOMER has the following structure.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE CUSTOMER AS OBJECT(
    id NUMBER,
    name VARCHAR2(20)
    the table "CUS_T" is of the following structure.
    CREATE TABLE CUS_T(id NUMBER, customer CUSTOMER);
    The use case I'm trying to address is that I need to retrieve the CUSTOMER object corresponding to a particular ID through a java code snippet. Here's how I'm currently trying to get it done.
    *CallableStatement cs=connection.prapareCall("{test_proc(?,?)}");*
    *cs.setInt(1,some_int);*
    *cs.registerOutParameter(2,Types.STRUCT);*
    *cs.execute();*
    *Struct result=(Struct)cs.getObject(1);*
    Although Oracle returns UDTs as SQL Structs, I'm running into the following exception while executing the aforementioned code snippet.
    *java.sql.SQLException: ORA-03115: unsupported network datatype or representation*
    Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Prabath

    Hi,
    I've been able to find the solution for this problem. The following simple code snippet
    has the done trick.
    CallableStatement ocs = connection.prepareCall("{ call testProc(?)}");
    ocs.registerOutParameter(1, Types.STRUCT,"CUSTOMER");
    ocs.execute();
    What I did there was, simply adding the UDT_NAME (the name CUSTOMER in the
    previous example) while registering the OUT parameter.
    Cheers,
    Prabath

    In order to use the SP from PHP you have write...

  • Trouble with calling a stored procedure with VARCHAR parameter from trigger

    Hi everybody,
    today I ran across a problem with stored procedures and triggers that try to call them. Background info: I want to log changes in certain tables to another table in a trigger, so I can replicate the changes to another (non-Oracle) database in an asynchronous way. As an example I have the first data table "bak_s3_berufliste" and the table to store the changes in is "bak_s3_change_request".
    DROP TABLE BAK_S3_BERUFLISTE;
    CREATE TABLE bak_s3_berufliste (
    id_bl NUMBER(27,0) NOT NULL,
    berufsbez VARCHAR2(255),
    CONSTRAINT PK_BAK_S3_BERUFLISTE PRIMARY KEY (id_bl) ENABLE);
    DROP TABLE bak_s3_change_request;
    CREATE TABLE bak_s3_change_request (
    ID_CR NUMBER(27,0) NOT NULL,
    TABELLE_NAME VARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL,
    TABELLE_ID_ALT NUMBER(27,0),
    TABELLE_ID_NEU NUMBER(27,0),
    CONSTRAINT PK_BAK_S3_CHANGE_REQUEST PRIMARY KEY (ID_CR) ENABLE);
    DROP SEQUENCE seq_bak_s3_change_request;
    CREATE SEQUENCE seq_bak_s3_change_request;
    For testing purposes I created the following stored procedure and trigger:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE schreibe_cr (t_id_alt IN NUMBER, t_id_neu IN NUMBER) IS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO bak_s3_change_request(ID_CR, TABELLE_NAME, TABELLE_ID_ALT, TABELLE_ID_NEU)
    VALUES (seq_bak_s3_change_request.NEXTVAL, t_name, t_id_alt, t_id_neu);
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trg_bak_s3_berufliste
    BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE ON bak_s3_berufliste
    FOR EACH ROW
    call schreibe_cr(:old.id_bl,:new.id_bl)
    *... and everything worked perfectly - except from the fact that I need to know which table had changed of course. So I added another parameter to the stored procedure:*
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE schreibe_cr (t_name IN VARCHAR2, t_id_alt IN NUMBER, t_id_neu IN NUMBER) IS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO bak_s3_change_request(ID_CR, TABELLE_NAME, TABELLE_ID_ALT, TABELLE_ID_NEU)
    VALUES (seq_bak_s3_change_request.NEXTVAL, t_name, t_id_alt, t_id_neu);
    END;
    and tested it:
    CALL schreibe_cr('Test',1,2);
    *... successfully. So I also added the parameter to the trigger:*
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trg_bak_s3_berufliste
    BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE ON bak_s3_berufliste
    FOR EACH ROW
    call schreibe_cr('Tabellenname',1,2)
    and what i get is:
    Error starting at line 31 in command:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trg_bak_s3_berufliste
    BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE ON bak_s3_berufliste
    FOR EACH ROW
    call schreibe_cr('Tabellenname',1,2)
    When I try to insert something into that table I get the following error:
    insert into bak_s3_berufliste (id_bl, berufsbez) values (seq_bak_s3_change_request.NEXTVAL, 'tueduelue');
    Error report:
    ORA-00911: Ungültiges Zeichen
    00911. 00000 - "invalid character"
    Cause: identifiers may not start with any ASCII character other than
    letters and numbers. $#_ are also allowed after the first

    any character other than a doublequote. Alternative quotes
    (q'#...#') cannot use spaces, tabs, or carriage returns as
    delimiters. For all other contexts, consult the SQL Language

    Action:
    I tried everything that came to my mind, like using double-quotes (") instead of quotes (') in the trigger code or escaping the quotes (\'), but nothing worked. Can anybody help my and tell me what's wrong? After googling for hours I'm outta ideas :-(
    Any ideas appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Jens

  • Calling a stored procedure of oracle 8 from java

    hello,
    i made a stored procedure as below in 1 program :
         String url = "jdbc:odbc:rjc1";
         Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,"scott","tiger");
         Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
         String createProc =
              "Create procedure sp1 as select * from items order by iprice desc";
         stmt.executeUpdate(createProc);
    in other program i have a code as below to retrieve the result of stored procedure :
    CallableStatement cs = con.prepareCall("{call sp2}");
         ResultSet rs = cs.executeQuery();
    the error message that i get is SCOTT.SP1 is invalid.
    any help would be great.
    thanx in advance.
