Can I execute a statement in a string format?

Is it possible to create a statement in string format and then execute it in, for example, a method?

Depends on what you want to do... if you want to do something like eval("java.lang.System.out.println(\"foo\");"); it is possible - just parse the string and use reflection - but it get's very complicated after that.

    Can you proceed me to this direction?No, it's still the wrong one.
    DB roles are not used in APEX due to fundamentals of APEX and Oracle architecture: this is clear when it is understood Re: Priveleges to create procedures/functions in schemas (points 3 & 4 being most relevant to this issue – and read "APEX" for "HTML DB")
    (If anyone knows of a more "official"/complete description of what goes on under the covers than the referenced Forum post it would be helpful to know about it.)

  • Execute  commands/statements in txt file supplied to plsql procedure

    The fact that you are supplying a file path (more correctly known as a directory) is going to be your first problem. Security within Oracle means that access to files on the file server require a directory object to be specified and these directory objects refer to a specific directory on the file server. If you're going to be passing different directories into your procedure then you're going to have to have different directory objects set up for all the possible directories that can be accessed (or issue dynamic DDL to redefine a known directory object each time).
    Once you've done that you can use the UTL_FILE package (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e25788/u_file.htm#ARPLS70906) to read the contents of the file as lines.
    Then it depends what you mean by "commands" and "statements". Are you referring to operating system commands?... If so you will need to use something like the DBMS_SCHEDULER package to issue a job to run immediately with the appropriate command, as that is able to issue operating system commands, or you are going to have to write some Java code to issue commands for you (plenty of examples if you google). OR, perhaps you are referring to SQL statements? These could possibly be issued using the PL/SQL execute immediate statement, but you will be leaving your database open to SQL injection and major security issues, something that most companies would consider a serious flaw and not want.
    how to read string which is delimited by ';'. or how read each charater in a file ..About time you read the documentation (http://tahiti.oracle.com/). There are functions: SUBSTR and INSTR which can search for things in strings and extract parts of strings, or you can use the more advanced regular expression versions of those REGEXP_SUBSTR and REGEXP_INSTR, or even REGEXP_REPLACE (which is also good for extracting parts of strings).
    If you want a more concise answer, you need to ask a more concise question... {message:id=9360002}

  • Execute DDL statements from pl / sql

    Hi !!!!
    I have to create every object (tables, sequences, etc) using a pl / sql block, so I need first looking for the object in the data dictionary and if it doesn't exist execute a ddl statement to create it.
    I wanted to execute at the same "execute immediate " :
    - create table.
    - create synonym for the table created before.
    - comments on table
    - comments on table's columns
    - grants on the table.
    But I found some errors:
    - I can`t have semicolon after every statement so I get an "ORA-00911: invalid character". I did'nt try to scape the semicolon so I need it.
    - I split the execute immediate so now I have one execute immediate for every statement but I got an error in this statement:
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'COMMENT ON TABLE SYSADM.CVP_PAQ_SMS_REC_PRUEBA IS "COMMENT ON TABLE"  '; The error I get is this:
    ORA-01780: string literal required
    Any suggestions about this ?
    Thanks.

    The comment itself needs to be a SQL string so it needs to be delimited with single quotes not double quotes. You can either use two single quotes
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'COMMENT ON TABLE SYSADM.CVP_PAQ_SMS_REC_PRUEBA IS ''COMMENT ON TABLE''  ';or you can use the q quoting syntax
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE q'[COMMENT ON TABLE SYSADM.CVP_PAQ_SMS_REC_PRUEBA IS 'COMMENT ON TABLE'  ]';You cannot combine multiple DDL statements into a single block (well, you could use dynamic PL/SQL, but then your string would have a bunch of embedded EXECUTE IMMEDIATE statements which would presumably not buy you much).

  • How can I convert a Waveform to a String-Format?

    Hello,
    I write with "SQL-Execute.vi" datas to an Access-file. The "SQL-Execute.vi" needs a statement in String Format. And that is my problem. My source-datas (that I want to save to Access) are Waveforms. How can I convert the Waveform datas to a String Format?
    Thanks for help!

    Wire the waveform to the Get waveform componants function...from that you get t0, delta t and the sample values. Now you can generate whatever string you want based on that information...
    You could e.g. wire the Y array to a for-loop in which you calculate the time of each sample by taking t0 and adding delta t multiplied with the array index, then you could convert the Y value and the time to strings using the seconds to time string and number to fractional string functions...etc etc...

  • Executing "if" conditions from a string

    Hello,
    I am making a webapp that reads if-statements from a local text file (MUMPS file actually). I will probably have those if statements parsed to a string, but is there any way to perhaps turn them into java code and execute them? I guess I can use string utils to make them look like java code (i.e. insert variable values), but how to I execute an 'if' condition that's in a string? The local file will change all the time, so hard-coding it is no option.
    I can turn the if statements into something like this "if (1=3 && 5=2) || (!"smstring".equals("otstring"))"
    Any help or direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Interesting. BeanShell looks neat. But aside from invoking an outside tool, there's no native way to do this. You'd have to parse it according to the rules of the grammar that the if statement conforms to, and then write java code to execute it.
    Just please tell me you're not writing a MUMPS interpreter.

    Almir

    Hi Almir,
    actually it is the 100 page item limit. See (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17556_01/doc/user.40/e15517/limits.htm)
    I also had a look into the source code and the code at the position where the error gets raised only supports 100 page items.
    Can you have a look into the generated HTML code and look if you have a page items which is mapped to p_t101 or a higher number ?
    I will file a bug to show a better error message.

  • How to execute commit statement in a procedure optionally?

    We have a procedure which has DML operations and at the end there is a commit statement.
    I want to execute commit statement optionally.
    Like, when procedure runs directly it must execute commit statement, but when this procedure is called from a trigger don't run commit.
    As you know commit operation is not allowed in triggers.
    How can I understant the code is triggered from a trigger or any other (manuel exec or from another procedure).
    I am looking for the reserved word that solve my problem. Like INSERTING, DELETING ....
    Serkan
    Thanks.

    Hi oraserkan,
    You do of course know it's dangerous to have a commit inside a procedure?
    Consider this:
    SQL> create table t (text varchar2(25))
    Table created.
    SQL> create or replace procedure p
    as
    begin
       insert into t(text)
           values ('Insert PROCEDURE');
       commit;
    end p;
    Procedure created.
    SQL> insert into t(text)
        values ('Insert SQL')
    1 row created.
    SQL> exec p
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> rollback
    Rollback complete.
    SQL> select * from t
    TEXT
    Insert SQL
    Insert PROCEDURE
    2 rows selected.You should instead clearly state the procedure has a commit by making it autonomous, and then have two procedures, one that commits, and one that don't
    SQL> drop procedure p
    Procedure dropped.
    SQL> drop table t purge
    Table dropped.
    SQL> create table t (text varchar2(25))
    Table created.
    SQL> create or replace procedure p_transactional
    as
    begin
       insert into t(text)
           values ('Insert PROCEDURE');
    end p_transactional;
    Procedure created.
    SQL> create or replace procedure p_autonomous
    as
       pragma autonomous_transaction;
    begin
       p_transactional;
       commit;
    end p_autonomous;
    Procedure created.
    SQL> insert into t(text)
        values ('Insert SQL')
    1 row created.
    SQL> exec p_autonomous
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

  • Executing SUBMIT statement in background

    Hello Experts,
    Is it possibe in executing SUBMIT statement in backgound? If yes can anyone provide example code?
    Also in terms of performance tuning how does SUBMIT fares against CALL TRANSACTION? Which is much better in terms of performance.
    Appreciate your answers. Thanks!

    Hi
