Can I have Oracle Application Server to work XML DB

I am new to XML DB. I read some of the document about XML DB. It looks like that I have to configure a DAD in Database. It looks like the database is served as an Application Server. I am wandering if I can use Oracle AS to work with XML DB to achieve the the same results.

installed in my machine. I'm using MS SQL Server 7.0 instead.
Please advised me on how to configure the ORB so that I'll be
able to start the application server.

Can I use Oracle Report Server to print from APEX? How?

Hello, we have Oracle Application server, Oracle Report server and now we just installed APEX and doing a pilot project. Since we don't have BI Publisher, how can we use our Oracle Report server to print from apex report? Can it be done and if yes where can I get some detail info that I can share with our DBA?
I have in past asked questions about the printing issues but I have been refered to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html#01 section 5 which talks about another installation.

You can use FOP, but the formatting of the xsl (Xml Style Sheets) takes a little work. If you have the Oracle Reports server up and access to the development product, why not go that route?
You want the filtering and sorting and searching, yes, but then you also want to print them out.. Then you would probably be best looking at replacing the Oracle Reports setup with BI Publisher. You can convert Most your reports over to bi publisher layouts easily.. (I have heard of some reports that do require recreating in Bi Publisher from Oracle Reports..)
Then you can have your Apex Reports and call Bi Publisher from APEX and everyone wins..
Is your Oracle Reports stuff used by non-APEX applications, that could be modified to use Bi Publisher?

One my client have Oracle Application Server 10g Release 1.
Can I do development in JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0 using ADF and then deploy it on OAS 10g R1.
If can what I should look for so that it can be as smooth as possible.

Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 and IIS

I have Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 Sucessfully on my pc. I can access the IAS welcome page using URL http://computername
and I can access the Enterprise Manager login using http://computername/em.
This is running on Windows XP Pro Service Pack2. I have not installed the IIS(though this is available with XP Professional).
If I install IIS (from add windows components control panel-> add/remove software) , will this cause any Issue with Oracle Application server?. When I installed the IIS , which URL I use to access the IIS Welcome page?

Hi George,
Without knowing too much about IIS I don't think you should run into that much problems. Running two application servers in parallel is usually not a problem as long as you make sure that they are not trying to listen on the same port.
It seems that you got your OracleAS listening on port 80, so make sure to configure IIS for another port when you have installed it.

Start Oracle Application Server in Debug mode

We have oracle application server 10g with oc4j. How do we configure App server to start in debug mode so remote debugging from different machine can be done.
I am new Oracle Application Sever. OC4j is java container and it starts automatical when ORacleAServer starts.

MadanShah, how did you start Oracle Application server? Let us say, you start it with opmnctl. In order to do java remote debugging with the oc4j process inside the OAS, you have to add the java remote debugging option to the "java-options" in the $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/config/opmn.xml.

The "-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5050" is what I added. After starting OAS, you can connect to the oc4j process by selecting port 5050 using a java remote debugger that is included in any major IDE, like Jdeveloper. For more information, search for "remote debug" in the online help of Jdeveloper.

Error -8 when deploying JHeadStart application to Oracle Application Server

I have developed an application using Oracle JHeadstart 10.1.3 Preview Version 10.1.3.0.78
We have Oracle Application Server 10g running in AS400. I created a connection to the server and tested. It shows the connection success.
I am trying to deploy my application to Oracle Application Server 10g but getting the following error:

I developed applications in JDev10.1.2 and deployed to the same server (Oracle Application Server 10g) without any problem.
But if I want to deploy application from JDev10.1.3 then I am having this error.
Can anybody help me? what might be the problem?

Syed,
Did you generate your application with service -level property "JSP version" set to "1.2"? If not, you cannot deploy your app to a J2EE 1.3 application server like Oracle AS 10.1.2.

Oracle application server 10g -remote debugging

We have oracle application server 10g with oc4j. How do we configure App server to start in debug mode so remote debugging from different machine can be done.
i configured remote debugging options in opmn.xml .in the jdeveloper i attached to JPDA .when i start remote debugging i have given hostname as localhost and portnumber as 5000.

1. I tried reinstalling OAS 10g today.
I did not enter the host name and/or domain name during installation, as it took both Automatically.
I see in config files the host name configured as - myhost.mydomain.com
where actual host name = myhost
and domain name = mydomain.com
I did give the domain name while giving the Global database name as
sid.mydomain.com
2. SSO server login is working.I'm able to login with "orcladmin" user, for url

the case is that we developed an ADF Application, so we want to deploy it on the latest version of Oracle Application server.
our application communicate with Oracle reports (run oracle reports from our Application) as there are no Oracle report products for JEE Application.
so if there are not report service that can run on Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.1.0),
what is the other choices that oracle supports that can help us in this case ???

witht SP3.0. When we Installed SP4.0 the Application server
couldn't start. We uninstalled the SP4 and returned to SP3 the
Application Server run normally. We couldn't find the error, if

After Installing SP4 you need to install patchset 1 of the OAS
You ccould find it at

Change hostname and IPaddress of Oracle Application server node

Hello,
We have oracle application server on windows 2003 os. Recently we changed the ip address and hostname of the computer. We have only forms and reports in the application server. Database server is on other node. I have changed the ipaddress and hostname using chgiphost.bat -mid in $ORACLE_HOME/chgip/scripts. The host name and ipaddress was change successfully. Now, when I see the status using opmnctl status, it still shows me the old host name.
Please let me know how to update the new hostname and ipaddress.
