Can I invoke applet from servlet

Hello there,
I was wondering whether I can call an applet in a servlet as follows: -
out.println("<APPLET code=\"Main_Interface.class\" width=850 height=800></APPLET>");
I tried the above line but the applet could not be loaded (Main_Interface.class is the applet class).
Could anyone help me with this. If there is another way of doing it please let me know.
Thanks in advance

Hi Ugniss,
I put my applet class in webapps/applets and servlet class in webapps/test/\WEB-INF\classes.
here is how I call the applet in the servlet class:
out.println("<APPLET code=\"Main_Interface.class\" codebase=\"../applets/\" width=850 height=800></APPLET>");
But the applet is failing to load, any more hints please.
Cheers

  • Calling an applet from servlet

    Hi
    I'm devoloping a server side java software(on netbeans 6) and I want my gui classes(Designed as swing japplet application) to be executed on server side.
    I mean I have database operations on my applet and some logging functions and I want them to execute on server side not client side
    Is it possible to call applets from servlet and so its executed on server if it is possible how can i do that is there a tutorial for that ?
    If it is not is there any other solution? Its really urgent for me
    Thanks

    Is it possible to call applets from servlet and so its executed on server if it is possible how can i do that is there a tutorial for that ?It's possible for a servlet to call any class. It's not easily possible for a servlet to connect to a certain applet instance running on a certain client, and neither should it. Hello - it's the server. It's supposed to answer to requests. It's not supposed to issue requests to the client. And considering your set-up as I understood it, you don't ned that anyway. Let the applet just tell the servlet to do action X or Y or Z.
    Its really urgent for meGood Thing that you wrote it here. If you had written it at the beginning of your post, I wouldn't have bothered to answer.

  • Can display Web pages from servlet but not applet?

    I have been able to display real-world Web pages from a simple servlet using JDeveloper 3.0, but can't figure out how to do the same from an applet. Any hints?

    My previous post had the detail...Probably a simple question from a relative novice. I'm having a problem just viewing web pages by calling them from a "list" of URLs in an applet. I built an applet with a split pane that has a JTree on one side and an "HTML viewing pane" on the other. I can click JTree nodes to display local html files, but I don't understand how to display web pages from the Internet. Do I need something like HyperlinkListener to make the jump to "hyper-world"???

  • Can I use data from Servlet in my static html page?

    First of all, I can NOT use jsp because of web server's restriction.
    I have a servlet which will give me some image links in html file via doGET and doPOST method. I also need the sizes of the images and compress the images if too large.
    My question is how I can pass the image sizes to the html page and how I can use them in html files.
    Please advise me some solutions to this problem.

    Yeah, you have 2 choices:
    1) Change your web server to one that allows JSP.
    2) Re-build the JSP system from scratch so that the one you make will work in your server. This would involve changing your so called static HTML to have markings (like <% %> tags) where you should insert the values you need to insert. You would then have a servlet that reads the 'static' HTML, parses our the insertion tags, and inserts the values. It would then stream the results back to the user.
    Of course, your HTML is not really static, it is dynamic because the values you are inserting are capable of changing.
    If you don't want to upgrade the server to one that supports JSPs (if yours really doesn't), the have fun making your own system.

  • Can't invoke WS from BPEL process: Unable to locate activated endpoint

    I have a simple Calculator Web Service deployed on Glassfish, that I can access with any kind of SOAP client (e.g. soapUI). I have then created a BPEL process that invokes this external Web Service (which happens to run on the same Glassfish server, but that's largely irrelevant I suppose). I can instantiate and invoke the BPEL process (I've tried it with a dummy assign earlier just to make sure, and it runs successfully), but the BPEL process doesn't seem to be able to locate the external Web Service. I get the following fault:

    Any help? I've seen someone post a similar problem on the forum at http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5273187&messageID=10157363#10157363
    but I haven't seen any answers. Thanks!

    Check the ports of Web services and those of BPEL, as Hambo have different communication ports.
    Normally Webservices point to the port 8080 and BPEL to 18181 or 9084.
    Check and I accounts.

  • Can't load applet from a kerberized server

    Hi there,
    I have the following problem:
    There's a java applet served as part of a web application. The User accessing the java applet should be authenticated by the web application. When this is done with basic authentication - the applet works fine.
    However when a kerberos authentication is configured on the webserver(using spnego module) - the applet can't be loaded.
    I log in to Windows XP using my user and pass. Then using IE I am automatically logged into the web application. I open the page on which the applet is embed, but the JRE can't load it(saying a ClassNotFoundException) The server's access log reveal that the jar can't be loaded because of authentication error:
    - - [05/Oct/2011:15:19:54 +0200] "GET /peria/Grid.jar HTTP/1.1" 401 490
    - - [05/Oct/2011:15:19:54 +0200] "GET /peria/Grid.jar HTTP/1.1" 401 490
    - - [05/Oct/2011:15:19:54 +0200] "GET /peria/Grid.jar HTTP/1.1" 401 490
    It seems as if the JRE is having problems authentication itself in front of the server? Could it be that or it is another issue?
    Note that I can access the jar file directly via the browser. But when I open the page that has it embed - the applet could not be loaded due to ClassNotFound
    Would anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

    One more question:
    Do I need to configure the JRE on the Client side in order to open the Applet on the kerberized server?
    Currently the JRE can't authenticate and the applet is not loaded due to Not authenticated (401) error.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  • Can't get x509 from servlet filter?

    i have a filter and a jsp. currently, both the filter and the jsp attempt to pull the X509 certificate from the request and log it (eventually the filter will perform authentication and the jsp will be a web service). however...the filter is unable to get the certificate, whereas the jsp gets the certificate without problems. why is this? some code below:
    **** filter ****
    doFilter(...) {
    HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest)servletRequest;
    X509Certificate[] obj = (X509Certificate[]) request.getAttribute("java.security.cert.X509Certificate");
    but obj is always null. (i even enumerate the attributes - always empty)...
    **** jsp ****
    essentially the same X509Cert line as above, but obj contains the certificate.
    any ideas? i'm using oracle's app server, which uses a modified Apache HTTP server, if that makes a difference.
    thanks

  • Help!! Can not find ejb from servlet!!!

    I have tried several days...here is my code to look up ejb..
    Context context = new InitialContext();
    Object ref = context.lookup("CustomerFacade");
    //Object ref = context.lookup("CustomerFacade");
    facadeHome = (CustomerFacadeHome) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(ref, CustomerFacadeHome.class);
    facade = facadeHome.create();
    do I need a orion-ejb-jar.xml? oc4j will generate it, right?
    Do I need a ejb-ref tag in the web.xml file? I've tried to use JDev to develop an example..the file it generates doesn't have ejb-ref tag at all..however..it works...
    the problem is that I want to port an app from JBoss to OC4J....so I cannot use JDev to develop from scratch...
    Please help me~~~I am stuck for several days...

    Next step it to restore to factory defaults in case there is some corruption which is now in the backup. If that does not work then you may have a hardware problem.

    Respected sir,
    I am thomas from prateek techologies ,referred by madam Pratibha.
    Actually i have to plot point marks on a image(it is a Banglore map) in an applet(Uploadimg3.java).so, for doing so, iam getting values from database in my servlet file named Mapuser_sev.java
    which is in the directory
    WEB-INF/classes.
    now after fetching the values ,i am not able invoke the Applet (Uploadimg3.java)which is in the directory
    WEB-INF/classes/mapuser.
    i have used the api ,response.sendredirect("/prakash/jspfiles/displaymap1.jsp");-->up to here it's ok..
    I have used the plugin tag as follows:-
    displaymap1.jsp
    <html>

    </html>
    if the plugin tag is wrong then please send me the correct coding for "jsp: plugin" with explaination.
    this is my directory hierarchy..
    jspfiles-->directory(folder)
    Prakash/jspfiles/displaymap1.jsp ----->this file has the plugin tags as mentioned above..
    Prakash is my context..

    Uploadimg3.class
    Mapuser1.java ---> i used this file to fetchdata from db ,please forget this file ..
    Mapuser1.class
    with regards,

    It might be the restrictions java has about opening files in a web browser. I don' t know if it's allowed or not..

    I am not sure if this problem is due to new java life cycle. I tried setting the legacy_lifetime=true and I got the same error or java.io.IOException when legacy_lifecycle=true

    An applet cannot access the client's filesystem. So there's no worry. All the .class files come from the server, unless you're using a ClassLoader to explicitly load from a certain location in clients hd with all the necessary security permissions.

  • How to call the EJB methods from servlet/jsp

    Hello ,
    i have write one ejb signOn having the method validateUser(username,password).i can able to call this function from client.java class.i want to know whether i can call this function from servlet.if yes then where to write that servlet and web.xml file.
    At present i m using weblogic server 8.1and i create directory call c:\ejb\demo and put the ejb files(home ,remote,ejb class ,client.java) then i have created .jar file and put in application file.
    Now i want to create a servlet for that i have to create a new directory and put the servlet,web.xml,weblogin-web.xml file and then create one .war file and put in application directory or do some thing extra.Please help me.
    Thanks In Advance

    I think this might not be the most appropriate forum for your question. You might try a forum about ejb, or weblogic, or jndi.

  • Pass data from servlet to jsp using sendRedirect

    Hi,
    I am passing data from servlet to jsp using forward method of request dispatcher but as it doesn't change the url it is creating problems. When ever user refreshes the screen(browser refresh) it's re-loading both servlet and jsp, which i don't want to happen. I want only the jsp to be reloaded.
    Can I pass data from servlet to jsp using sendRedirect in this case. I also want to pass some values from servlet to jsp but without using query string. I want to set some attributes and send to jsp just like we do for forward method of request dispatcher.
    Is there any way i can send data using attributes(without using query string) using sendRedirect? Please let me know

    sendRedirect is meant as a true redirect. meaning
    you can use it to redirect to urls not in your
    context....with forward you couldn't pass information
    to jsps/servlets outside your own context.Actually, you can:
    getServletContext().getContext("/other").getRequestDispatcher("/path/to/servlet").forward(request, response)I think the issue here is that the OP would like to have RequestDispatcher.forward() also update the address in the client's browser. That's not possible, AFAIK. By the time the request is forwarded, the browser has already determined the URL of the servlet, and the only I know of way to have the browser change the URL to the forwarded Servlet/JSP is to send a Location: header (i.e. sendRedirect()). Remember that server-side dispatching is transparent to the client. Maybe there's some tricky stuff you can do with JavaScript to change the address in the address bar without reloading the page?
