Can I modify cluster configuration on the fly

If we have say 3 iAS instances in a cluster.
Is it in any way possible to remove one of the iAS instances from the cluster while the cluster is still online. My understanding is that any change to cluster requires restarting all instances in cluster. Is that correct?

The answer to your question depends on how you set up your cluster in the first place. If all your servers are "sync servers" then the anser is no. A restart of the cluster is required if you want to change or remove a node from the cluster. However, if the machine you wanted to remove was a "sync local", then you would be able to remove it from the cluster without restart.
(It probably won't be a sync local if you used iASAT to create your cluster)

I have a table that has a date column. Sometimes an invalid date is passed and I'd like to capture and initilize the incoming value to null and have it inserted without error. Currently I get ORA-01847 day of month must be between 1.
Example:

Now if a user does the following, I want no error to occure but rather for the date value to be set to null and inserted.
insert into ep1 values('1', '41-JAN-13')
The insert may come from any client and I can't change the calling code hence can't used a precedure to replace the insert. I'm guessing there is some way to catch system level exceptions on the DB level. This doesn't need to be nice, it just needs to work.
Here is the question on experts exchange. I'm told there is no way, but there must be. After all the exception is on a DB system level and I would think one could extend or override these, or disable them.

Resolution:
1.) Copy the 2 Config Files attached to $PSHome (typically C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0) – Done !
2.) Copy powershell.exe to PS.exe and create a config file
- cd $PSHome (which is the path where the powershell binaries live)
- copy powershell.exe PS.exe
- create a config file PS.exe.config with the content below
Now you have the possibility to open a “normal” PS 4.0 Window and run the following command:
ps.exe –command “Test-Cluster –li”
You can run this command from a powershell script as well.
This way you don´t touch your existing PS4.0 environment and don´t need to do extra testing of all scripts, but can run the Test-Cluster cmd-let on the clusters as expected.

Can't add layer markers on the fly with Mac laptop

I've been trying to figure this out for hours now!!! I'm on a Mac Intel Core 2 Duo laptop running 10.5.6. I'm using After Effects CS3 Professional. All I want to do is RAM preview an audio file from inside a composition, and add layer markers on the fly. Apparently this is easy with a desktop using the numeric keypad. I remapped the shorcut in the Preferences text file so that "Add Marker" is now F12 - nice and easy! (and no, it's not conflicting with the the OS Dashboard shortcut - I turned that off). In any case, I tried a number of others as well. The problem is, no matter what the shortcut, when I try adding the layer marker with the shortcut the file stops playing! So annoying! I want to add a number of layer markers timed to the beat, but as soon as I do the damned RAM preview stops! I can't mark key points in the composition!! Any help would be MUCH appreciated...

I want to re-map the numeric-keypad-star key so I can hit markers on the fly while ram previewing (my laptop has no numeric keypad), but I don't know what the shortcut is called in order to be able to find it to re-map it!! Can anyone tell me what the shortcut is called?
Also from this thread it seems even if I do re-map it may not work - can anyone tell me whether this will be the case for a PC? I'm using a Dell Studio 1557 Core i7 with Win7 64bit, running After Effects CS4

How can I modify ONE CHARACTER in the file name???

I have in right side meta tag panel a file name , original name and copy name fields.
The file was already renamed. So i am not interested original file name ,anyway i cant click on it.
I would like to modify ONE +"!/"%/"+! CHARACTER in filename field which is 50 characters long.
If I click on it gives me an batch rename window.
If I click copy name I have to write all from zero BECAUSE I CANT COPY the filename field.

First, what has the copy name to do with file name? I think you're misunderstanding the purpose of the copy name field. It is for giving a virtual copy a distinctive name.
Now for file naming... if I understood correctly, you want to edit the name right in the Metadata panel, but the file name field is non-editable. This is a bug. It is exhibited when you have multiple files selected and change the metadata panel view. You can temporarily fix it by selecting a single file in the grid and changing the metadata panel view from All to Default or vice versa (see the attached screenshot). Now that the field became editable, you change on character.
If you want to do it for hundreds of files using a template, then would be nice if you provide your source and target filename templates.

Can't modify SMB configuration

I just updated my Server from 10.4.x to 10.5.x.
However, I have a problem with Windows users login. Windows can't access user's files after successful authentication.
After some tries I discovered that every user can access newer sharepoints, but they are not able to access sharepoints already used before OS X Server upgrade.
Old sharepoints have browseable option as NO, and I believe this is the main problem.
I am not able to change Samba's configurations using Server Admin. They return to old configurations after click Save. It appears that configurations files are locked or damaged.
I am also not able to change configurations manually. Every modification that I made returns to old configurations after restart Samba.
Should I reset everything? How?
Anybody knows how to solve this?

News... Now I know also that Server Admin can't change configurations ONLY in ADVANCED tab.
In Advanced tab I changed all options!! After click Save the following options returned to the previews selections: Code Page, Workgroup Master Browser, Enable virtual share points.
Others options worked fine!! General, Access and Logging are also working perfectly.
Well... main problem not solved yet!!
Ohhh!! FTP and AFP are working perfectly, so problem do not appear to be access privilegies in folders.

Can't NetFlow be configured on the port of F2 serise module?

Thanks for the suggestion kcell. I've tried both versions
9.0.115 and 9.0.124 and both fail with the policy permission error.
I also tried with and without your crossdomain.xml file but
with the same result. It looks like this file is intended for URL
policy, instead of socket policy. Recently Adobe separated the two.
When I run with the files installed on my dev PC, it does
work, which makes sense because the flash player isn't loaded from
an unknown domain.
I did get one step closer. If a crossdomain.xml in the server
root exists and the socketpolicy file is loaded from the app folder
then the first two warnings disappear. The logs now show:

UPDATE: When serving up the policy file on port 843 using the
example perl script then the socket connection seems to be accepted

Can Policy Routing be configured on the RPR interface?

We have three 10720 routers connected via RPR ring. And we found the policy routing is not working, however the same config works on Ethernet interfaces.

Are you applying the config on the DPT interface or the Ethernet interface? I'd be suprised if you could configure any policy routing on the DPT interface. Rather I would have thought it should be applied on the Ethernet interfaces involved in the connection. Bear in mind that the router function of the 10720 does not really see the DPT ring, but as logical point to point links.

Can CF8 create pdf's on the fly?

For example I want to create pdf's that render different information based on the user.
I have a 2 page set pdf that all users will see, but I want the info that populates the right column on first page to be dynamic based on the user.
Only the right column on the first page is dynamic and is based on the user , everything else would be the same.
Its kind of like using a cfinclude on a regular cf page.
Does this same kind of logic apply to creating PDF's?

Yes, CF 8 has several functions that allow for the dynamic creation of PDF documents. The documentation had all the details.

There are several ways to do this. The third chapter in the
cookbook is a good place to start.
All things in ActionScript are based on objects. Constructing
them with the data needed for the ui information you will need and
then binding that data to your dashboard objects is basically what
you are going to be doing.
For me it makes the most sence to have an idea of what
different types of objects you will be creating and create some
extended components for those objects. Then when you recieve your
data, binary or xml, you can digest the configuration settings from
the layout and populate the constructor for each of your
components.
It sounds like you need to organize your layout structure in
a heirarchy and from that you can walk each branch and create each
set of things as you parse your data.
Without a bit more information as to what you are
specifically doing that is about as far as I can go minus adding in
some code along some line that I think might work.

How can I modify the SQLQueryString at runtime? (VB6 Application, CR XI)

I have created a report in Crystal Reports XI which uses a stored procedure to retrieve data. The report was created using our test database (AS/400 DB2) as its datasource. In our Visual Basic 6 application we want to be able to run against the production database. In the code a CRAXDRT.Report object is instantiated and the .rpt file is specified in the OpenReport command. I can see that the SQLQueryString property is {CALL "TESTSERV"."ABCLIB"."RPT_ONE_SP"}, where TESTSERV is the test machine, ABCLIB is the library (Default Collection property value in the connection properties which can be modified) and "RPT_ONE_SP" is the stored procedure name. If a change to the SQLQueryString is attempted an error is raised. Even if all connection properties are changed the stored procedure call still defers to what is specified in the call (from the .rpt file). Is there a workaround for this situation?

Hi Daniel,
You can't change the info directly in the SQL you have to use the .Location method. This will update the SQL and re-direct from your original server to the new server.
Please read the info in the link Dan attached to is first reply. It will show you how to do this and it does work.
Once you set all the logon info then use the .Verify method or Testconnectivity API to confirm it's going to the new Server. Then export the report to RPT format to confirm the new logon info is saved.

Adjust Counter Delay on the fly using two Counters

Hi,
I'm using the technique described here by JohnP to implement an on the fly delayed output of a hardware counter relative to it's trigger.

My system generates a hardware buffered regenerative analog output. A continuous synch pulse is generated using Cntr0 on the same PCI-6221 and is triggered off of the AO.StartTrigger in order to synchronize the Cntr0 Pulse with each generation of the AO wavefrom. Then Cntr1 is configured in retriggerable single sample high/low time mode and triggered off of the Cntr0.InternalOuput. By changing the low time of Cntr1 I can effectively implement an adjustable on the fly delay on the ouput of Cntr1 relative to Cntr0 and hence relative to the AO waveform.
The technique works great for rational values of drive period, (i.e. 1.258 s), but when an irrational waveform period is commanded such as (0.59405940594059405940594059405941 s) the Cntr1 delayed pulse drifts relative to Cntr0. Meaning if you start with a 0 second delay between the two counters, the output pulses are initially aligned but then Cntr1's output will rapidly drift such that the two counter outputs are no longer synchronized.
Clearly there is a rounding error occuring but I can't seem to correct it. I changed the Cntr1 high/low mode from time in seconds to clock ticks thinking I'd have better resolution but still see the same drift with irrational drive periods. I also suspect that by calling the Cntr1 property Cntr.RdyForNewVal in a loop the hardware determinism of my system is compromised.
Our current solution is to simply coherce the user commanded AO drive period to rational values.
I'm mainly wondering if this problem can be corrected or if it's just a limitation of the method using two counters to create an on the fly counter output delay.

I'm measuring the drift of the output signals (AO and Cntr1) on a daq board scanning at 5000 scans/s.
The information you provided is helpful, I wasn't aware of the divide-down on the internal timebases. Yes, I am specifying the frequency directly to Cntr0 so this may be coerced differently than the AO.
Where does one find these specifics on the board and various clocks?
I've attached some sample code that may be of help to future users of this technique. The sample code outputs a continuous regenerative buffered Analog Output waveform (board hardware timed). Cntr1 is then configured in Frequency mode and triggers off of the AO.StartTrigger in order to synch the two signals. Then Cntr1 is configured in High/Low mode and triggered off of the Cntr0.InternalOutput. By changing the Cntr1 low time, I'm able to get an on the fly delayed output of Cntr1 relative to Cntr0 and hence the AO.
If you have a daq board and you wire the AO and Cntr1 output signals into two analog input signals, you can see the drift when using irrational frequencies. The sample code I provided only performs the output, so to see the signals you can simply create a continuous acquisition task in Max at 5Khz.

Sun zfs storage cluster configuration problem

Got two zfs storage *7320* controllers and want to make a cluster. according to manual I should make several clicks to do this, but...
first appliance is configured the second is showing in console :

for five days!!! i've rebooted the second appliance - no change, still initializing.

I've seen this a bunch of times on our storage. The basic problem is that the head you want to cluster is already "configured". This doesn't necessarily mean you did anything wrong! The usual problem is that someone did the "initial configuration" on both heads. However, it can mean that something may have gone wrong in the initial cluster configuration.
The only way to get past it that I've seen is to add "-c" to the kernel line in Grub when it comes up from a reboot. This does a full factory reset again. So when Grub comes up before the device begins the rest of the boot process, press "e" to edit, then scroll down to the "kernel" line, press "e" again to edit that line, add " -c" to the end of the kernel line, press "escape", then press "b" to boot.
If this seems complicated, contact Support.oracle.com to have a tech do it for you. It's straightforward if you're already familiar with Grub, but not so much if you're not.
