Can I set a Session Variable from a Dashboard Prompt, using values that are

Hi All
Trying to set a Session Variable to an integer value, by letting users select a text value from the drop-down list on a Dashboard Prompt. The goal is to set the input parameter to the IndexCol function, but to provide the end users with a text description of what they are setting.
Select Value Set Variable Value
My 0
My Team 1
My Companies 2
My Teams Companies 3
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Certainly we could populate the drop-down from a data source, however I don't see how to populate a variable with something other than the values on the screen.
The IndexCol function is referenced in a Filter in Answers, and I'm thinking to populate a Session variable using the (Presentation) variable value set from the prompt. But how to do this? I see a reference to a function NQSSetSessionValue(), but cannot find documentation on how it works.
Any clue will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi kishore..
Looks like the link u have sent uses advanced SQL tab to set session variables. I want to know if I can use "set variable NQ_SESSION.myvar= @something" in the "SQL results" -while creating a dashboard prompt-.
Purpose: I want the session variable to be set based on whatever report that im currently in.
And i dont want to use presentation variables because im using a reset button in my page.
My reset script resets presentation variables and NOT session variables.
Thanks in advance

  • Dashboard Prompt using values not from the table

    Hi,
    I have a requirement from the client to design a dashboard report like the following.
    Dashboard prompt will have 4 filters, three filters come from the table, but the fourth filter will have 3 values not from the table. The fourth filter will have values like "Report with Sales Amount", "Report with Purchase Amount", "Report with both Purchase and Sales". I have three different Table reports designed for each of the fourth filter choices. But how do I implement it, both in the dashboard prompt as well as navigating to the rite report based on the selection.
    Is my approach correct.
    Thanks for your time and help.

    The fourth prompt where you have "Report with Sales Amount", "Report with Purchase Amount", "Report with both Purchase and Sales" you pull a dummy column into the prompt and write a sql in show.
    would be something like
    SELECT Case when 1=0 then "Dimension- Customer"."Cust Name" else 'Report with Sales Amount' end FROM Sales UNION SELECT Case when 1=0 then "Dimension- Customer"."Cust Name" else 'Report with Purchase Amount' end FROM Sales
    and in the prompt set a presentation variable say var_criteria
    Now create report2 for with a some randomn column and another column will have the values that you want to display for example 'Report with Sales Amount'
    Create a filter on the 2nd column and reference the presentation variable var_criteria and default it to 'Report with Sales Amount'
    On the dashboard page in the section place the report and enable guided navigatoin by selecting report 2.
    Please let me know if you have any questions.
    thanks,
    deep

  • In OBIEE 11g, how can you set a presentation variable value from javascript ?

    I want to set up presentation variable from a javascript variable. Does anyone knows the workaround for this ?

    SriniVEERAVALLI,
    Thanks for your suggestions. I want to make a custom prompt that is only my requirement. From JS I have made a custom slider prompt now I want to use this slider prompt to pass selected value in presentation variable. Since, we have slider prompt only for numbers, I have to use it for other values.
    I just want to make my post looks simple and focus on the specific problem.
    Anyways, thanks a lot for taking time to reply. Appreciate your help.

  • Can someone tell me why this is not setting the session variable?

    size=\"20\" value=\"\">  ";
    echo "<input name=\"submit\" type=\"submit\"
    value=\"Submit\">";
    echo "</form>";

    second page
    <?php
    // script2.php

    You need to set the session variable first.
    <?php
    session_start();
    if (isset($_POST['name1'])) $_SESSION['name1'] =
    $_POST['name1'];
    echo 'Hello, ' . $_SESSION['name1'];
    ?>
    By the way, using echo to create your form on page one is a
    complete
    waste of time. Just use an ordinary HTML form - a lot less
    typing, and a
    lot more efficient.

  • How to set a session variable

    Hi,
    I would like to know how to set a session variable for the following purpose.
    At the top of my application I have a "Welcome <username>" I'd like it instead to have "Welcome <firstname> <lastname>".
    So the concept would be after the user logs in succesfully this session variable is dynamically set so it can be displayed.

    Hi Scott,
    I realize that I can set items etc in pages. The case I'm referring to is a reference in a template. My template has a "Welcome <user name>" ... so the code looks like "Welcome &APP_USER." Anyway to make it say "Welcome first_name last_name" in the template? Note I'll have to get the first/last names from a query
    Thanks,
    Marty

  • How set a SESSION variable?

    How set a SESSION variable?
    There is a standard object where could do this?
    Thx in advance Roberto.

    >I'm not at all sure that you CAN change the portal language in the way that you want.
    >Perhaps you should repost this question in the portal forum.
    No i manage the language of WebDynpro myself, with tables from R3.
    I wanna do only a thing like HTTP SESSION variable from the WEB.
    I could do it, using java function of servlet, but i don't wanna use third packege out of WebDynpro FRAMEWORK.
    The isn't an OBJECT CLASS STANDARD od WebDynpro that do that?
    I wanna PERMANENT variable from a WebDynpro to another.
    It is an implicit variable passage.
    No one did something of similar?

  • Can XSQL create multiple session variables using only one database call?

    Right now if I want to set session variables for username and accesslevel, I code out like this:
    <xsql:set-session-param name="name" bind-params="username password">
    SELECT DISTINCT USERNAME
    FROM LKUP_USER
    WHERE USERNAME = ? AND PASSWORD = ? AND ACCESSLEVEL = 0
    </xsql:set-session-param>
    <xsql:set-session-param name="authlvl" bind-params="username password">
    SELECT DISTINCT ACCESSLEVEL
    FROM LKUP_USER
    WHERE USERNAME = ? AND PASSWORD = ? AND ACCESSLEVEL = 0
    </xsql:set-session-param>Is there any way to do it so that I don't have to do multiple queries to the database to set session variables? i.e., something like this:
    <xsql:set-multiple-session-param name="user authlvl" bind-params="username password">
    SELECT DISTINCT USERNAME,
    ACCESSLEVEL
    FROM LKUP_USER
    WHERE USERNAME = ? AND PASSWORD = ? AND ACCESSLEVEL = 0
    </xsql:set-multiple-session-param>Sort of like how bind-params works. Setting bind-params="username password" makes the first ? akin to username and the next ? akin to password.
    Is this functionality already in existence?
    Thanks!

    Not currently possible to collapse into one request without doing it in a custom action handler.
    A custom action handler can:
    [list=1]
    [*]Get the current JDBC connection from the XSQLPageRequest
    [*]Get the SQL statement to perform using the function getActionElementContent
    [*]Handle any bind parameters specified an a bind-params attribute on the action element by calling handleBindVariables()
    [*]Execute and fetch the row from the query
    [*]Check to see that the return value of getPageRequest().getRequestType() equals the value "Servlet"
    [*]Cast the page request to an XSQLServletPageRequest and call getHttpServletRequest()
    [*]Call getSession() on the request
    [*]Set the session variables you want to
    [*]Close the JDBC statement
    [list]
    will consider a built-in enhancement for a future XSQL release.

  • Problem accessing session variable from jsp

    Hi!
    I get an error retrieving a session variable from inside a JSP declaration scriptlet....
    Something like this code in a JSP page:
    <%!
    public void funtion1() {
    String parameter1 = session.getAttribute("parameter1");
    %>I have seen that I have available getContextServer() method and from there I could call getAttribute("parameter1") . But the thing is that the attribute I want to retrieve was stored in session by another Jsp page.
    Any solutions are welcome
    Cheers
    Victor

    Appropriately the above is one the reasons also You cannot use JSP implicit objects from the declaration tag. However we can think of a small workaround by passing the reference like the one discussed below
    <%!public void funtion1(HttpSession session) {
    String parameter1 = session.getAttribute("parameter1").toString();
    }%>
    <% funtion1(session);%>Hope that helps :)

  • Adding session variables from a recordset

    I'm trying to create a session variable from data from a
    recordset, can anyone help?
    this is what I want the session variable to be from the
    recordset:
    <?php echo $row_rsStrata_plan['plan_str']; ?>
    but I'm not sure where to go from here: $_SESSION[test] =?
    Thanks,

    Make sure you have <?php session_start(); ?> at the top
    of your page
    Then
    $_SESSION['test'] = $row_rsStrata_plan['plan_str'];

    Hello !
    How can I set a Session bean to time out eg. 48 hours ?
    Thanks
    Uiloq Slettemark

    For stateful session beans you can use the timeout attribute in the orion-ejb-jar e.g.
    <session-deployment timeout=1800 ..>
    this is specified in seconds and Default Value: 30 (minutes)

  • Problems accessing session variables from a pop-up

    I am working on a webapp and I when I click on a certain button I need to have a pop-up appear that will either prompt a user to enter log-in info if they haven't already, otherwise the pop-up just needs to display a report. Users can navigate around on the main page and select various reports so multiple pop-ups could possibly be opened. When a user logs in I save the login info in session variables, but for some reason whenever I click to have another pop-up open it always says that my session variables are null. Is there a way to have more global session variables so that multiple windows (the pop-ups) can touch session variables? Would there be a way to pass the login info in session variables back to the main page and then pass those session variables back out to each pop-up that opens? Thanks so much.

    Have you got session cookies enabled?
    The most common way to keep track of the session id is via a session cookie.
    This cookie gets shared by all windows of the same browser session.
    You are opening these pop-up windows with window.open?
    Print out the session id <%= session.getId() %> on each page to see if it is the same.

    Copy and paste this little script in your terminal:
    if [ "SSH_CONNECTION ]; then
         echo I am remote
    else
         echo I am local

    A return of "i am local" ensures there is no remote connection to your machine (through SSH).
    In the future, to avoid remote entry, I would recommend not posting your IP address though.
