Can i use itunes or apple app store gift card to do in-app purchases as a substitute for credit card?

I Heard that you can use the appstore gift card or itunes to do inapp purchases since they serve as credit points in the apple store
i think it could be since amazon appstore has amazon coins that do the same:
1. Buying Apps
2. buying inapp contents
3. (or any hardware or others) not sure about this..
so i thought it must be true of what ive heard,
please confirm and if true, teach me how..
cause i dont have a credit card and its kinda too much to ask others to borrow from others..

iTunes and App Store gift cards are basically the same thing, both are redeemed onto your iTunes account and can be used to buy from the iTunes store, app store, Mac app store on Mac computers and the iBookstore - the cards that you shouldn't buy are Apple Store gift cards, they cannot be used with an iTunes account.
When you've redeemed it onto your account then your balance should show in both the iTunes and App Store apps on your iPad, and your computer's iTunes. On my iPad it shows at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app under my account id and at the bottom of the Music tab in the iTunes store app (or you can view your account via Settings > iTunes & App Store and it should show on the screen that you are taken to). On my computer's iTunes it shows at the top left of the store's pages next to my id, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option.
If you are trying to download a paid-for item and you don't currently have a balance or other payment method on your account then you will be taken to the payment details screen so that you can either redeem a gift card or enter one of the other payment methods.
To redeem a card onto your account you can use the Redeem button at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app, or the Music tab in the iTunes store app, on your iPad. Or you can do it via your computer's iTunes, either via the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage
Or by logging into your account via the Store > View Account menu option and selecting the payment details link on your account

  • HT204053 how can i use iTune and Apple apps to doenload applications without using credit card or gift cards?

    Hi Team,
I have brought new iPhone, and was trying to install Skype & other applications. while using itune its asking for review, and then in registration page asking for
    "Credit card' details..
help me to know the way without credit cards or gift cards.

If you only want the free apps, take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)
    Regards.

The app store will not take my security code on the back of the credit card

When there is a mismatch between the iTunes Store's records and your credit card company's records, you will receive an error message stating that your credit card's security code isn't valid or that your zip code does not match your bank's records. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646

  • App Store asks me to add the 3 last security numbers of my credit card

    Dear Apple Community,
I use iOS devices now since the iPhone 3G, but since some months the App Store asks me at every payed purchase at the App store (e.g.: Angry Birds) to add the 3 last numbers (security number) of my credit card, this even if I add these numbers a week ago.
Why is the App store not able to save my security numbers? Or is this just a security feature of the App store, because I only buy once every month a payed app?
In advance I thank you for your help!

I have no way of determining that. However, I know the iTunes Store does different things in different countries. It may be normal for Luxembourg.
You could try asking by starting here, and following all the prompts that lead you to creating an email that will be sent to iTunes Support:

  • HT5035 Why, when trying to download a "free" app from iTunes after it say's, "this apple id hasn't been used with the iTunes store" does it keep asking for credit card info???

This is so frustrating! I have an itunes store account, etc. I lost all my info when I had to "restore" my iphone.
I wasn't able to do the "restore" until recently, gosh it was about 6mos or more ago when my iphone died...
So, as I get older I am having memory problems and haven't been able to access my itunes account.
Obviously when I did the "restore" on my iphone I lost all my info with it... So, wanting to use my iphone for
music, games, etc. I had to create a new apple id, fine, but when I wanted to download a "free" app it says
my apple id hasn't been used with itunes so it keeps asking for credit card info.
I do not remember ever having to have a credit card before!
I am so frustrated... First it was not being able to access my account then having to create a new one, fine!
But now I can't download "free" content without credit card information!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! UGH!!!!!!!
    Please, can anyone help...?!?
    Sincerely,
    "Distressed"

If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. For Android phones it is Google, and they will certainly want to know.

  • How can I use a different Apple ID withthe App Store?

When I access the App Store from my iPhone 3G it asks me to enter the password for an Apple ID.
How can I use a different Apple ID with the App Store?

It will use the account you are currently signed into with iTunes when you synced. So in iTunes, change your account, then sync. Then the iPhone will use that one.

  • Can you use a Canadian apple account/billing address on the mac app store in the uk

    What up
Just wondering, can you use a canadian apple account with a canadian visa and billing address to purchase apps from the mac app store in another country (England)
    Merci

    Hi..
The issue is that your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."
From here >  The Complete Guide to Using the iTunes Store | iLounge Article
Billing policy is the same for both the iTunes and Mac App Stores.

  • Hi I have an iTunes account with my uk debit card but am currently in Australia, can I buy and use an iTunes/app store gift card in AU$ or am I only allowed to acces the store in gbp£ ?

Hi I have an iTunes account with my uk debit card but am currently in Australia, can I buy and use an iTunes/app store gift card in AU$ or am I only allowed to acces the store in gbp£ ? Cheers

I had the same error when trying to update my apps on my ipod touch. I tried to input my security code numerous times to no avail. I also made sure my billing address was the same as what my bank had on file. To fix the issue I went into iTunes, logged onto the iTunes store, went to account settings and reviewed my recent purchases. Turned out that I had made a recent purchase and didn't have enough money left on my credit card to pay for it at the time. I paid off the credit card, and then input my security code once more and now it works fine. I've heard that some debit or pay as you go credit cards require a minimum balance, so make sure you have at least that amount in your account.

  • I have received a $100 Mac app store gift card, can I use it on the Apple Store website to buy other products?

I recieved a $100 Mac App Store gift card with the Back to School promo, and I was wondering if I could use it on the Apple Store website to buy another product.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. The gift card is restricted to use in the Mac App Store and the iTunes Stores. It will not buy Apple hardware on the Apple Store website.
