Can ping from Windows to Mac but not from Mac to Windows

Hi all!
New owner of a Mac Mini. Know nothing about it, so NewBie Alert!
Windows PC with two NIC's. One connected to the internet, one connected to the Mac by using a crossover cable. Internet Connection Sharing on the Windows PC and the Mac can go out to the internet so there is connectivity between the Mac and the Windows PC.
The problem: I cannot ping the Windows PC from the Mac. I can ping the Mac from the Windows PC, so my suspicion is that it has something to do with a firewall on the Mac, but as far as i know the firewall on the Mac is switched off. On the Windows PC the firewall is definitely switched off.
Who can help me getting this working?
Thanks,
Ton.

There can be multiple problems here:
- no ping service provided on the Windows PC
- ping traffic blocked by a firewall at either end
- pinging the wrong host: You have two NICs in your Windows PC, with two IP addresses, and two host names. Only one of the two will be visible from the Mac. Use "ipconfig" at a command prompt to get the two IP addresses, or look at the Properties of your Network connections.
- Name resolution problem: Try using the IP address with the ping command, not a host name.
Ping from the Windows PC to the MAC, and observe the reported IP address. Make sure the IP address you use to ping from the Mac is in the same subnet, i.e. the first three numbers must be the same, like
192.168.1.100 vs. 192.168.1.101
What is the result of the ping operation, i.e. "host not reachable", "unknown host", or "no response".

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your best method would be to connect via USB and transfer that way, since videos are not transferred using photostream.
However you can stop photos on your mac being added to photostream in the iPhoto preferences > photostream by unchecking the automatic upload box.

  • I can print from my Mac but not from my iPad.

I can print from my Mac but not from my iPad ,any ideas?

you can read here about airprint
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
if the printer don't support that then you need to find a printing app in app store
which will act the role as printer driver for the device to speak with the printer

  • I can print from my iPad 3 but not from my new iPad mini which has a lower spec. What should I do?

Question. Why can I print from my iPad 3 but not from my new iPad mini which has a lower spec?

The "lower specs" have nothing to do at all with why you cannot print. Are you connected to the same Wi-Fi network that the printer & the iPad 3 is on?

  • Input Tax code from logical partner LS but not from indiv vendor partner LI

    Hi,
Find that tax code at vendor invoice is being taken from logical partner (LS) , but not from the individual vendor partner number (LI) . Bothe the partners are maintained in WE20 , OBCA , OBCD & OMRY.
Like to know the reason / setting to pick up tax code from logical partner (tax rates are same in both cases).
    With regards,
    Mrinal

    Hi Dove,
I think you can use a substitution for field Bank Type at Item Level (TCODE OBBH). This would fill your bank type when you post the document in FI, then you won't have problems in F110.
    Hope that helps.Cheers.

  • DNS Issues - Can ping server name and IPs but not FQDNs.

    Hi All,
Hopefully some one can help me here, I am having an issue where one of my domain attached servers cannot ping any FQDNs in the environment but it can ping the host names and the IPs and look up the host names from a reverse look up.
We have done the following troubleshooting:
    Flushed and registered DNS cache.
Restarted the DNS client and net logon services on the effected server
Preformed standard checks and commands such as:
Checked the event logs and found there were warnings for DNS registration.
Compared the DNS settings in the network adapters across the rest of the servers in the environment and found that they were all the same. DNS Suffixes are added in the correct order and are set to register.
Pinging FQDNs which is not giving any results.
Tracert FQDNs which is also not giving any results.
Nslookup which is querying the DNS server directly and giving results as expected
Ran the command which reported successful: dcdiag /test:registerindns /dnsdomain:sub.domain.net /v
Checked and updated the permissions on DNS for the affected server to give the server full control of its own DNS entry.
Replaced the DNS Client service DLL with one from a server that is working as expected.
Also worth noting is that the affected server (as well as every other server in the environment) has 2 NICs, one that communicates with DNS and AD and the other does not have any DNS IPs set.
Not this is not the first time this happened, a reboot fixed the issue before but it seems to be a reoccurring problem now.
If any one can shed some light on this issue I would be grateful.
    Regards,
    Steve.

    Hi Steve,
First, we should confirm if this issue is caused by DNS.
When you ping the FQDN, does the server show the correct corresponding IP address?
If no, there should be some error messages. If it is possible, please post the screenshot of this issue.
To check the process about how does server resolve the FQDN, please follow the steps below:
clear local DNS cache with command ipconfig /flushdns
    perform the network capture
    ping the specified FQDN
    Check the DNS traffic
To download Network Monitor, please click the link below:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=4865
Besides, have you tried to update the NIC driver to the latest version?
    Best Regards.

  • How to delete events in iCal on Mac, but not from iPhone

    Hi everyone,
I have a reminder set to my phone for something everyday which is great because it's the first thing I look at in the morning. But I don't want this event plastered all over my iCal on my computer as it's unnecessary to see it there. But of course, since I sync my iPhone with this computer, it always ends up there too.
Is there a way to sync only certain events, but not all of them? Sometimes I want to do the opposite, where I need to see a reminder on my computer for work, but don't need it popping up on my phone.
Thanks for any help you can give!

use the following article to delete an icloud calendar event:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2684
    should resolve your issue!

Yeah, I figured out where my problem was.
My IP Local Pool range was the problem.
I was using 10.10.10.0 which conflicted with a point-to-point connection where the serial interfaces were numbered and using 10.10.10.1 and 10.10.10.2.
Traffic would leave the firewall, hit the intended host, go back through my core router, then off to the other network.
I changed my ip local pool to a different range (192.168.100.0) and my problem was solved.

  • PDF prints from Acrobat 8 Pro, but not from Acrobat 9 Pro

I have a PDF that prints fine when I print from Acrobat 8 Pro, but when I open the same PDF in Acrobat 9 Pro, only portions of each page actually print out.
All systems running Windows XP Pro, SP3
    A8P 8.1.2
    A9P 9.1.1
    Any ideas?

Well, for those following this thread or needing a solution, I found a work-around though I'm still not sure why the initial problem exists.
In Acrobat 9 Pro, once you have the main print dialogue box open, follow the steps below:
    1) Click ADVANCED
    2) Select PRINT AS IMAGE
    3) Set DPI to 300
    4) Click OK
    5) Make any other typical print setup adjustments as you normally would and finish printing as usual

  • Form Sends Email from Adobe Pro X but not from Adobe Reader x

I have windows 7, adobe pro X and adobe reader X, and thunderbird 9.01 email client.
I have a PDF form (created in lifecycle 9.0.0.2_) that is complete and is reader extended though adobe pro x.
It will send the email correctly in abobe pro x, it opens all the correct windows etc and sends, and I receive the filled out PDF form.
When I open the form in adobe reader X it opens the correct window as before, but never sends the email.
Can any one here be of some help.
    Thanks
    Steve

Did you reader extend the form?
Open the form in Adobe Acrobat PRO.
Goto Advanced menu -> Enable usage rights in Adobe Reader and save file..
    Thanks

  • DST prob for conversion from US/Eastern- GMT but not from GMT- US/Eastern.

    Hi folks,
I'm running the following SQL against a Oracle 10.2.0.1 g server using Oracle SqlDeveloper 1.5.3 & then again using SQLPlus 10.2.0.1.0.
I'm attempting to provide SQL that highlights the jump forward by one hour at 2am US/Eastern on 14th Mar 2010.
In order to do this I've converted times from GMT into US/Eastern using the oracle function from_tz and to_timestamp.
The following sql statements are suffixed with a 'correct' or 'incorrect' as to whether they correlate to what I would expect and indeed to the time returned from the World Clock website.
    =======================
    = Via Oracle SqlDeveloper 1.5.3
    =======================
-- The first section of selects highlight the jump of 1 hour forward that occurs on the 14th of March 2010 by converting the GMT time to the corresponding US/Eastern time and the second block reverses the conversion.
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0500' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'GMT') at time zone 'US/Eastern' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 00:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0600' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'GMT') at time zone 'US/Eastern' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 01:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0659' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'GMT') at time zone 'US/Eastern' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 01:59:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0700' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'GMT') at time zone 'US/Eastern' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 03:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0701' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'GMT') at time zone 'US/Eastern' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 03:01:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0800' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'GMT') at time zone 'US/Eastern' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 04:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0000' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'US/Eastern') at time zone 'GMT' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 05:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0100' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'US/Eastern') at time zone 'GMT' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 06:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0159' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'US/Eastern') at time zone 'GMT' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 06:59:00.000000000 US/EASTERN correct
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0200' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'US/Eastern') at time zone 'GMT' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 07:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN incorrect
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0300' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'US/Eastern') at time zone 'GMT' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 08:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN incorrect
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0301' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'US/Eastern') at time zone 'GMT' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 08:01:00.000000000 US/EASTERN incorrect
    select from_tz(to_timestamp('14-MAR-2010 0400' , 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24MI'), 'US/Eastern') at time zone 'GMT' from dual; -- returns 14-MAR-10 09:00:00.000000000 US/EASTERN incorrect
which is as I would expect. At 6:59am GMT the time in US/Eastern is 1:59 am, however, at 7:00am the time in US/Eastern is now 3:00am. This correlates to the times I get back when I perform the same calculations using the converter at the WorldClock.
    http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html
However when I attempt to perform the same conversions except in reverse i.e. from US/Eastern to GMT I get different results.
-- everything is fine up until the actual time of the change over (2am US/Eastern). With the 2:00am time though I would expect Oracle or perhaps even the SqlDeveloper client to indicate either of the following :-
    a) the time 14-MAR-10 02:00am US/Eastern is actually a non-existant time as per the WorldClock.
    b) that it's defaulting the time 14-MAR-10 02:00am to 14-MAR-10 03:00am US/Eastern
instead the results proceeding the sql statements are output and for any time on/after 2am they are 1 hour behind their correct GMT times as per the world clock.
I understand that there is a patch for timezone's from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 that should address this, however, the reason I'm posting this is because when I run the above SQL in sqlplus against the same server I get different results except this time both conversions are incorrect.

so it's as if the Oracle Client SqlDeveloper somehow intervenes as the results come back from the server an adjusts it for the first set of conversions but not the second.
Basically it looks like I need the patch for the timezones for 10.2.0.1 but what about the Clients? Is there patches I then need for them? Would the SqlPlus client that ships with 10.2.0.4 return the correct results or once the patch is applied to the server.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so would they be able to point me in the direction of a resource describing and resolving it?
    Thanks,
    Mark.

    Hey Robert,
Yes indeed we are paying for Oracle support? As far as I know I logged in through metalink in an effort to investigate this problem.
Our DBA upgraded from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.1 and all the inconsistency went away thankfully.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to me,
    Mark.
