Can Read but Can't Write to Database

hi...i'm fairly new to java and have a problem w/ a database program i have written...i'm running windows xp along w/ access xp...the program i wrote works fine on my computer, however, the program is for my brother and on his computer it only reads from the database but can't write to it...unfortunately i packed the program in a jar file so when u run the program no console comes up to display the exceptions...he is running windows 98 (first edition) and doesn't have any version of access on his computer...i figure his odbc driver is out of date or something like that but i wouldn't know where to start to tackle this problem...any help w/ be very much appreciated...thank you...

First, don't cross-post:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=54&thread=440288&tstart=0&trange=15
Submit your question to the forum that best suits its contents. Don't try to increase your chances of getting a response by posting the same question here, there, and everywhere. It's considered rude.
Second, if you've written a Java app that runs fine on XP, then your Java is okay. That's a good start.
I think Windows 98 is the problem. It's rather old technology now. I would say that Windows 9x really isn't an application platform worth thinking about. You might be correct - the ODBC driver might be out of date.
Is the version of Access you're running the same on both machines?

Ask him to start the app via the command line/redirect (see [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/System.html#setErr(java.io.PrintStream)]System.setErr() to a file, or use a better logging method than you are now (more info in the catches, use [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/logging/package-frame.html]java.util.logging ).

  • I can read but I can't write to an external drive - changing permissions

I can read but I can't write to an external drive.
How do I change permissions? None of the helps here on the discussions have helped.
Why would a computer company let me read files but not write? Hahaha. This is insane.
I have to write computer files for work. It's a project due this morning.
Man, I'm going to have to go back to PC.
Just need the compter to write files.

If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it.
If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.

  • Can open adobe reader, but can't open a pdf.

can open adobe reader, but can't open a pdf.  have uninstalled reader 2 times and reinstalled it, but still get same results.  running windows xp.

    Three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Is there an app that runs on iMac that can display movies on an NAS drive as thumbnails? I have someone who cannot read but can select from pictures what they want to do or watch

We have a person living with us who cannot read but can use our integrated AV systems with out TV's because it is all picture or thumbnail based
For movies we have on a NAS drive I would like for the person to be able to connect to the NAS drive and choose a movie
on the home AV system this is done using an interface that shows all the movies as a tile with a graphic, generally the DVD cover photo or similar
I was hoping for something similar with the iMac
    thanks in anticipation

The iPhoto app provides the capability to delete all the photos in the Camera Roll.

Have you downloaded the approriate Snow Leopard drivers for that printer? Make sure you get the appropriate and latest MP Navigator, as you start scans from the computer, not the all-in-one.  Get them from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp830#DriversAndSoftware

  • Trying to access SMB share, can read but not write, I use the domain account to autenticate and domain account has access to the share. its a samba domain and im a Windows Admin by trade.

    I have two  I Mac's Intel i7 models.
I have some problems getting them to write files to SMB shares.
The domain user account I use when requested to enter when i first try to connect to the share seems to go though without a problem and it presents me with a list of mounts (shares) I select one and the folder opens, I can read files and copy them but I cant write to any of the folders.
I have also mounted the network locatiosn to a folder from the terminal while also specifying a user name and password to use but this also doesnt allow the specified user account to write data to the share.
I have confirmed the user account can write to the share by having the user do so from a windows box.
any help from any of you mac guys would be great!!!!
Im a windows fan boy / Windows Server based Network Administrator and am slowly becomming a fan of your macs (mainly due to the Unix terminal access letting me realise there is more control to be had than most haters would lead you to believe).
    Peace Out

I should add that I originally formatted the problematic drive for FAT32 from the Mac, but then the WinXP computer couldn't see the drive when I plugged it in directly via USB. That's why I went with Seagate's utility to format it.

  • I can read but not write to an Excel file!

    Hello,
I hope someone can help me witht this. I am writing a program that reads and writes to an Excel file with the use of Jakarta's HSSF.
I can read the excel file with no problems, but when it comes to writing on it it only works the first time! Then when i try again, I get this:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: N:\Servers.xls (Access is denied)
         at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method)
         at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
         at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
On some PCs i have no problems, but on others it works only once and then I get the above error. I am using Java 1.5.0. Thanks.

  • I can read but I cannot respond to emails in Hotmail

    Hi everyone,
I am really hoping someone can help me out. On my MacBook Pro 13 inch that I bought new in 2009, I cannot respond or write emails in Hotmail.
I can, however, read my email in hotmail, but cannot respond. I have no idea why, and would be forever grateful if someone can help me solve the mystery.
I can read and respond to emails in gmail, so I have no idea why hotmail is giving me a problem on my MacBook Pro
PS: I don't know the operating system, but it's the 13 inch MacBookPro (silver that I bought new from the Mac store last year).
    Thank you!
    Laura

It may be that Hotmail doesn't fully support the web browser you are currently using. Safari comes built-in on all Macs, but you can also try Firefox.

You've probably already got the answer.
But Microsoft did a Hotmail update a few weeks ago that rendered hotmail essentially incompatible with the Mac operating systems. We have exactly the same problems on our Mac. Since our Mac is now six years old, we're getting a new one this week, but we are dumping hotmail. MSN, as I understand it, is in bitter competition with Apple, and very stupdily will not support the Mac platform. In my view, they have shot themselves in the foot. No, make that feet. MSN no longer makes any effort to make their services compatible with the Mac. And the more "improvements" they make with Live and Hotmail, the more incompatible they become. At this point, hotmail is essentially useless on a Mac.

  • PC can read but a Apple can not VIA internet

I have a G5 Tower with filemaker pro 5 on the LAN side of the network. I have mapped the IP address to the G5. In the router, a Linksys, I opened port #5003 & #591 for Filemaker and port #548 for Apple. On the LAN side of the network all my Macs and the 1 PC has no problem communicating with the G5 and Filemaker. But when I go to the Wan side and try to connect to the G5 VIA the internet from a remote location, the PC can read the Filemarker files on the G5 but not a MAC. Any Ideas what I need to do to the router so I can have Macs get the file VIA internet?
The system does works with Macs and PC and can read filemaker VIA internet on a another router provided from another ISP provider. I want to go to a T1 line and purchased a Linksys route.
This is what I have on the network from the T1 Line. Cisco 1700 and then it connects to a Netgear switching hub and from there it goes to the Linksys.

There is a 3rd party app, AirParrot, that "mirrors" my screen to my HDTV via a new AppleTV.  http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot/
They have Windows & OS X versions (OS X for the Macs older than mid-2011).

  • DVD will read but won't write A205-S5812

My DVD drive will read and play but won't write. Device Manager says it is a Matshita UJ-850S. I have upgraded to XP Pro sp3 from vista. I suspect that it is a driver issue but I have searched and can't find one that makes it work.
Has anyone else run into this? Any suggestions

Not a driver issue, or it wouldn't even read.  You are missing the program required for disk writing that Toshiba suppiles with factory installs, but is lacking in commercial versions of Windows.  It is not available as a download, only as part of the factory image.  Since you changed to XP, You'll need to buy some disk writing software like Nero or Roxio.
