Can Save and Save As dialog boxes be modified to show fewer file type options in CS3?
I'm looking to simplify the choices for the Save and Save As commands to the just the formats that I use on a regular basis to make some repetitive file processing tasks go faster. Is this possible?

Scripting can save to Folders relative to the File’s location or to absolute Folder-paths, so that may be beneficial in Your case.
Scripting can also amend the name a File is saved as, one could even number copies progressively.
It’s naturally easiest (to create, at least) to make one Script per file-format/target-location/name-change, because otherwise creating a dialog is necessary.
The thing I have to admit here, though, is that it would probably take a little time to grasp the matter (JavaScript specifically) – so if You should be under time-pressure already it may not be very useful in the short run.

Can't access browser when "Save As..." dialog box is active
Hi all,
When I am downloading and saving a file and the "Save As..." dialog box is active, I'm not able to click behind it to access the browser as I can with Internet Explorer.
I need to be able to access the webpage while the dialog is open, as I often need to copy/paste text from the webpage into the file name field on the Save As... box.
Does anyone know if there is an add-on or something that will remove this limitation?The problem with that solution is that when I close the dialog box so I can copy the text I need from the tab underneath, I lose the location of the folder for saving the file, and then I need to navigate back through all the folders to find the location again. This is a waste of time.
I cannot copy all the text at the same time into the Save As... box, as I need to take the text from several locations on the webpage (such as program name, version info, etc) and compile it into a useful file name.
Again, if anyone knows of a workaround for this issue (other than the clipboard addons which will only complicate matters) then please repsond.

When attempting to open .XLS files in Numbers, the format is not recognized. When the format is .XLSX, the format is recognized. Why is it this way? It's still much more common for folks to have the .XLS file format on their excel files. Why would Numbers not be backwards-compatible?
Additionally, to state in the benefits of this program that one can save to 'Excel' is a little misleading. You can't save to anything except .numbers. Sure, you can export to Excel (with file extension .XLS, I might add), but you can't save or save-as.
Does anyone else see the irony in being able to export to .XLS but not be able to open an .XLS?
There is something to be said for clarity.
You can't expect folks to have Numbers and Excel on their systems, so how else are they supposed to open .XLS files in Numbers?
And I don't need to see another advertisement for NeoOffice or OpenOffice here, thanks. I'd actually like Numbers to be a little more sensible.
That is all.When the advertisements were written, there was no Lion so we were able to Save As Excel.
At thiqs time there is no longer Save As command under Lion but the feature is always available.
When your editing task is ended, you are free to use this scheme:
File > Duplicate
File > Save and in the dialog you will have the option save as Excel.
Numbers isn't and I hope that it will not become an Excel editor.
Its resources contain a flag defining it this way.

I would like Adobe to utilize the non-legacy save/open Windows 7 dialog box
So I downloaded the trial for CS5.5 Master Suite and found that the open/save dialog box is the same thing from CS5. This is a huge disappointment.

Common File Dialog is being used still by CS5 and CS5.5 which is outdated and legacy.
[Starting with Windows Vista, the Open and Save As common dialog boxes have been superseded by the Common Item Dialog. We recommended that you use the Common Item Dialog API instead of these dialog boxes from the Common Dialog Box Library.]

It appears it would be a simple retooling of the code in order for this to work. I truly hope that Windows 8 will force all software developers to utilize the new Common Item Dialog API.We've been trying to - but we still have to support XP and Vista.

Getting "save as" dialog box to auto populate when combining files in Acrobat X Standard
In acrobat 9 the "save as" dialog box auto populated when I combined files, in Acrobat X it creates binder1 and then I have to click file and save as. Is there a setting that I am missing so I do not have to do the extra step of file, save as?

Yes, it's executable; it tries to execute either way.
The Unix LF through Smultron seemed to work. However, I don't see such an option in nano - only Mac and DOS. (I'm not too concerned, I'm pretty sure I"ll use Smultron on a regular basis to edit these files.) -
Can I Save and Saveas an excel running into a webbrowser (C#)? Permissions problems?

When we open an excel via the Open method we can configure the parameters 'readonly = false' and 'editable = true' to allow saving with Save and Saveas methods avoiding the messages "A file named 'test.xls' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it?"
The problem is that I don't open the Excel file as above . My application (C#) charges the excel in a webbrowser inside a windows form so I prepere a workbook, I open it in the WebBrowser ( with Navigate method, not Open method) and then I assign the WebBrowser document to the application so I could continue to control it
The question is: Is there any way to open this Excel file in a webbrowser with permissions similar to 'readonly = false' and 'editable = true' of the Open method???
- If not, the Save function doesn't work and the saving only occurs when I change the content of the webbrowser ( for instance when I it's executed the line mywebBrowser.Navigate("about:blank", false); ). Moreover It appears the messege "A file named 'test.xls' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it?"
- On the other way, if it can't be done, It`ll never works the Saveas function...

BOXI R3 Webi Doc -"Refresh On Open" checked as default for Save and Save As
we have row level security at database level and we require that all webi reports are set to "Refresh on Open" in order to apply the security settings each time the report is viewed.

through SDk?Are you referring to editing/creating a Webi doc through infoview? Infoview is an out of the box web application and modification of it is not supported. There is no setting to make all webi docs refresh on open within the enterprise product.
The only thing you could do with the sdk is to open any existing doc and change the setting. This isn't a great solution as it won't affect any new reports created, nor will it prevent users from modifying the document and changing this setting and saving. -

Windows do not repect the digital EXIF specification. Use a free viewer http://www.irfanview.net/ for Windows.

This is a cross post, so sorry about that, but I had originally replied to a previous post,
before I realized it was probably the wrong forum
for my question.
Copying from a document to a dialog box field doesn't work anymore; How do I fix it?
We have the problem since upgrading to Tiger.
Our Mac users, during their workflow, paste a filename
from a document into the 'save as' field (when printing to a .ps file).
This no longer works. UNLESS they control click in the 'save as' field.
Then they can select 'paste' with the mouse. Why is this happening? and how can we fix it? (so they can just 'command C' then 'command V' as they used to).
We have repaired permissions, cleared user caches,
tossed finder prefs, logged in as another user,
all to no avail.

I agree that something else is capturing the shortcut, as
all shortcuts are unavailable in the pulldown menus at that point where we used to be able to 'Command V' paste into the text field. We're not using Quick Keys, and the
Full keyboard access setings are default for OS 10.4.
I did experiement with turning of some of the modifier F key selections in the Keyboard system prefs but none made
any change for this issue. For now our work around will be to control click in the text field and select 'paste'.
Seems odd that the contextual menu is available for that field but a 'command V' or command control V doesn't work.
Not a huge deal, more of an irritant, but I'll keep on the hunt! Thanks again! -

I downloaded and installed Firefox on my '02 Mac G4. It worked great. Now I have version 3.6. But my weird problem is one day when I ran it, the "save" and "save as" windows stopped popping up at all. I'd left click a picture and select "save as" and nothing would happen. I'd go to the menu and select "save" and still no window would pop up. It would just act as if nothing had been clicked. No loading icon or anything and no "save as" window. I've never been able to get it to work. The volunteer in the live support chat typed "That IS weird.." I tried his suggestion but it did nothing. I may have deleted the plist preferences file in the preferences library folder to get it started again after a freeze up threw it out of whack but I've never had this happen before.And i've tried doing that again to see if that would restore it. But the plist always regenerates itself and the "save as " window still never appears when I run Firefox. The "save" window works just fine in every other program on my Mac, but not in Firefox. Weird..
Leliforever, cheek you list of installed add-ons, the Ask toolbar can be installed without the users knowledge.

Why oh why is this still happening - come on Adobe sort this out.
Lost time and Revenue due to InDesign suddenly greying out Save and Save As, which means the only way you can save the document is by exporting as an IDML which then causes more problems with broken links etc. Surely Adobe know about this issue, being as though I have read many forums about this.
The whole Creative Cloud concept is great, but seriously flawed, had issues where I've had notifications of the same updates I have already installed for two weeks after installing them, applications hanging on startup, Creative Cloud app not updating due to errors which quits creative cloud and then you have to start it again in order to start the update process, which invariably does not work, then have to download the latest version from the website.
Too many issues keep cropping up with this suite of software, even though the individual software packages are great when they work!!
This needs investigating and sorting out sharpish!!Moving this discussion to the InDesign forum.
