Can SID of R12 database be changed after installation?

Hi
We have R12 vision instance running on a server.
Can SID of its database be changed without change in the data inserted by the development team ie keeping the data & rest all intact?
Regards
JIL

With the help of Rapid Clone, it is possible.
- Run Pre Clone
- Stop all services (application and database).
- Run Post Clone

• What is the best methodology to handle database schema changes after an application has been deployed?

Hi,
VS2013, SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB, EF 6.0, VB, desktop application with an end user database
What is a reliable method to follow when there is a schema change for an end user database used by a deployed application? In other words, each end user has their own private data, but the database needs to be expanded for additional features, etc.
I list here the steps it seems I must consider. If I've missed any, please also inform:
(1) From the first time the application is installed, it should have already moved all downloaded database files to a separate known location, most likely some sub-folder in <user>\App Data.
(2) When there's a schema change, the new database file(s) must also be moved into the location in item (1) above.
(3) The application must check to see if the new database file(s) have been loaded, and if not, transfer the data from the old database file(s) to the new database file(s).
(4) Then the application can operate using the new schema.
This may seem basic, but for those of us who haven't done it, it seems pretty complicated. Item (3) seems to be the operative issue for database schema changes. Existing user data needs to be preserved, but using the new schema. I'd like
to understand the various ways it can be done, if there are specific tools created to handle this process, and which method is considered best practice.
(1) Should we handle the transfer in a 'one-time use' application method, i.e. do it in application code.
(2) Should we handle the transfer using some type of 'one-time use' SQL query. If this is the best way, can you provide some guidance if there are different alternatives for how to perform this in SQL, and where to learn/see examples?
(3) Some other method?
Thanks.
Best Regards,
Alan

Hi Uri,
Thank you kindly for your response. Also thanks to Kalman Toth for showing the right forum for such questions.
To clarify the scenario, I did not mean to imply the end user 'owns' the schema. I was trying to communicate that in my scenario, an end user will have loaded their own private data into the database file originally delivered with the application.
If the schema needs to be updated for new application features, the end user's data will of course need to be preserved during the application upgrade if that upgrade includes a database schema change.
Although I listed step 3 as transferring the data, I should have made more clear I was trying to express my limited understanding of how this process "might work", since at the present time I am not an expert with this. I suspected my thinking
is limited and someone would correct me.
This is basically the reason for my post; I am hoping an expert can point me to what I need to learn about to handle database schema changes when application upgrades are deployed. For example, if an SQL script needs to be created and deployed
then I need to learn how to do that. What's the best practice, or most reliable/efficient way to make sure the end user's database is changed to the new schema after the upgraded application is deployed? Correct me if I'm wrong on this,
but updating the end user database will have to be handled totally within the deployment tool or the upgraded application when it first starts up.
If it makes a difference, I'll be deploying application upgrades initially using Click Once from Visual Studio, and eventually I may also use Windows Installer or Wix.
Again, thanks for your help.
Best Regards,
Alan

• Unable to open Database Home Page after installation

Hello!
I have made my very first installation of Oracle 10g XE and I have immediately tried to open the Database Home Page, as suggested by the installer.
However, I have got a browser error and I noticed that no process was listening on port 8080.
No Oracle service was running, except OracleXETNSListener. Nonetheless I have started OracleServiceXE as well and it started without visible errors.
However, port 8080 is still not open.
I am really disappointed with my first experience with Oracle products. No errors whatsoever, but an inaccessible home page. In addition, I have noticed other questions about the same problem. No working answers for me. I feel quite frustrated.
Just FYI: I am running Windows XP SP3.
Is there any way to solve this issue at the end of the day?
Thank you and sorry if being offending. I think that a company like Oracle should not tolerate such an unfriendly product installation, especially if counting on winning new customers with its free XE database.
Best wishes,
Georgi
P.S. Yes, I have errors in C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\log files, but they are quite a lot and I can't realize what went wrong exactly. There are probably errors elsewhere as well, but they are not visible to the ordinary user/developer during the installation. Sad.

• Can't find Epson 9900 printer driver after installation.

After installing the printer driver for my epson 9900 printer, it doesn't show up in the printer dialogue box in system preferences. When I try printing from Photoshop it also doesn't show up in selecting a printer. I am upgrading from a previous 9900 printer driver. I trashed the old printer driver. After installing the new printer driver, I restarted my iMac. But still it doesn't show up.

I recently purchased Mac OS X 10.6 and got version 10.6.3.I expected to get version 10.6.8. Can I update to 10.6.8 after installation?

Hello,
I am trying to install 10.6.8 on a computer which is not connected to the internet.
How do I get from 10.6, which I had to purchase on a disc due to the fricking new IOS on my phone, to 10.6.8.
I downloaded what I thought was 10.6.8 update, and it said "you need to have 10.6.7". This is infuriating.
I'd like to get my music back onto my Iphone soon.
Thanks

• OEM Can't get to database after changing the port on the database

Hello OEM Gurus!
I had to change the port on a database(11g) from 1521 to 1526. I adjusted the listeners to include the SID (finapp1t) in the listener listening on port 1526. I removed the SID from OEM (10g btw) and rediscovered it. It successfully rediscovered.
Now I receive the following when I attempt to go into "tablespaces" or "tables" on the FINAPP1T database page:
Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor The Connection descriptor used by the client was: (description=(address=(host=urora2t.unioncentral.com)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(sid=finapp1t)(server=dedicated)))
I then clean started the Agent on the server but I get the same results.
OEM seems to think that that database FINAPP1T is still using port 1521. I can connect to the database on port 1526 from my Desktop so I know the listener sees this database.
How do I tell OEM to update the port ?
Thanks for you help!

• Can't connect to database after restarting, TNS Error

I'm a little new to Oracle 10g administration. I successfully installed it on Oracle Enterprise Linux. Immediately after installation, I was able to connect to the default ORCL database using sqlplus. However, when I restarted the computer, I was no longer able to do so, even after restarting the listener service.
Here is the error I get:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor
The other strange thing is, whenver I create a new database using dbca, immediately after that I can connect via sqlplus. However, if I perform a shutdown/startup, I get the same error as above. Restarting the listener doesn't make any difference.
A tnsping to my new database is successful but I can't connect to it from sqlplus.
Running the 'lsnrctl services' command immediately after making the new database shows it running but after a shutdown/restart only the default EXTPROC service shows.
Can anyone tell me why this happens and how to resolve it? Is there some other service I have to restart? Also, why does the listener not know of the service when it is explicitly configured in the tnsnames.ora file?
Note that I change my ORACLE_SID to the service name before attempting to connect.
Everything in the listener and tnsnames files was coded by the software, not by me.
Thanks for any help.
Here is my listener file:
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =

I played around a little by deleting and creating databases. Here is my current tnsnames file:

• How can i change port No 1521 after installation

Dear all;
I have finished installing oracle database 10g, infrastructure 10g and BI 10g in one machine ,but after installation i found that the infrastructure use the same port 1521 of the database, and as a result the application server services not working like Forms, OC4j_bi_forms and report , so, how can change the port number after installation and how can i pass this problem during the installation??
Thanks

dear Mr.
actually after i installed the db10g and developer 10g and when I start the installation of the infrastructure I get the following message (that telling me that the port 1521 on my host is used by another product and if this port is being used by Oracle Network Service listener version 9.0.1 or higher, may I elect to continue the installation) , so I decide to continue the installation but after that I noticed that not all the oracle application server service not started and when I start forms as example may be the OC_4j_bi get down, and so on… and when I discuss this issue with another DBA he told me that this problem because of the using of the same port.
Finally i would like to solve this problem by any case even if i re-install the S/W again, but i'm afarid that i face the same problems.
Thanks

I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my MacBook and I noticed that I have more capacity on the Macintosh HD than before the upgrade. I checked my files and applications and they are still on my computer and nothing appears to be missing. Before the upgrade I had around 111 GB capacity with around 10.50 GB available on the Mac HD but now after the upgrade I have 119 GB capacity and 20.92 GB available. Can capacity on the HD change after an OS upgrade?

No, but the upgrade removed unneeded PowerPC code and changed the way free space is determined.

Hello, I have a problem with Enterprise Manager. I installed Oracle 10g and the patch 10.2.0.2. After install, I could connect to database from SqlPlus without problems, but when I try to connect from AllPrograms - Oracle - DatabaseControl or since the Web browser with http://servername:1158/em nothing happen. I reviewed the status of dbconsole with emctl status dbconsole but the status is running. I recreated the repository with emca -deconfig.......-repos drop and emca -config ...... -repos create , but nothing happened. I reviewed some threads in this forum, but I didn't find the solution. Finally I could connect from the browser but with http://localhost:1158/em. Do you help me how can I connect from Database Control, because the operators in Computer Center should monitor the instance since there, and when I want to connect since my own PC how can do it?
Thanks for your help and excuse my English, I am from Bogotá Colombia.
Sincerely Rubén

Hi,
Check the network connectivity between db server and pc from where u want to access em.
Check the listener service.
Check firewall settings, it should be off.
