Can't delete files via terminal!?

Hey there,
after I deleted my timemachinebackup I wanted to kick it out of the trash, but I got negative numbers... so I read a bit in some forums and tried it with
"sudo rm -rf /Volumes/Mac HD/.Trashes/$UID/*"
"sudo rm -rf /Volumes/Mac HD/.Trashes/*"
"sudo rm -R /Volumes/Mac HD/.Trashes/$UID/*"
But it seems like nothing works for me... terminal askes me for my password and after I typed it nothing happens and the HD got the same free space like before...
My somebody help me?

roam is absolutely correct. You MUST protect the path information so that spaces are not seen as commad line token separators.
Also be very VERY careful using 'rm' especially when also using 'sudo' as the combination can be the extremely dangerous to your data.
sudo rm -r /Volumes/Mac\ HD/.Trashes/$UID/*

How do you delete files in Terminal?

I've searched the site looking for this because I've had a problem deleting files before and know there's a way to do it in Terminal, but can't seem to find the answer. I have an application and two txt files that won't delete, and won't allow me to drag them to the trash or change the file name.
"The item cannot be moved to trash because it cannot be deleted."
I'm on OS 10.2.8, I do have admin privileges and the files are not locked.
If you can post the code to delete files in Terminal or if there is another option please let me know.

Force-delete an item from desktop or Trash....this also will remove a locked

1. Launch Terminal...type/copy/paste...
rm <space> This deletes a file only
sudo rm -rf <space> ..this deletes file or folder ,,,or ...
sudo rm -R <space> this deletes file or folder
2. Drag the offending item into the Terminal window. The path to it will appear.
•To force-delete more than one item from the trash....click a item and press Shift or Command as you click additional items .
3. Click on Terminal window, press .... Enter
4. type your administrator password. Press ....Enter
5. Click on the Desktop or the Trash window and the file will vanish.

My new users can not upload files via browse

Hi there;
When my recent created users can not download files via the browse within the Internet interface.
When I hit the via browse I face the following:
500 Internal Server Error
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10406: Invalid AttributeValue conversion (DIRECTORYOBJECT to Java DirectoryObject)
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10200: Unable to access object (insufficient privileges)
Any hint?

These are the ACL's of IFS:
PRIVATE Grants no permissions to any other user. Other users cannot view, modify, or delete a user’s document in any way, unless changed by the owner.
PROTECTED For folders only. Enables other users to see the files in the folder, add documents and folders to the folder, and remove documents and folders they have created from the folder, but are not allowed to delete the folder itself.
PUBLIC Allows full access to the item. All users can make any changes that the owner can make.
PUBLISHED Allows other users to view the contents, but they are not allowed to modify or delete the document.
If you attach the ACL Public it must work!

I can't send files via bluetooth

My problem is that I can receive files via bluetooth, but I can't send files via it. Actually I can see the "receiving file" message on mobile, but as I wanna accept that file, I see a "receiving file" error. I tried this with several other phones, but I still have the same problem. You can't download pictures from iCloud by logging into icloud.com. If you deleted pictures from camera roll AND photo stream, the only possibility is preforming a restore from an iCloud backup, assuming the backup has the pictures in it. (Many users have been unable to restore and get back their pictures.)
If the restore doesn't have all the pictures, then they are gone.
In the future, use photo stream to sync photos from an iPhone to a computer, then copy the photos on the computer from the photo stream album into a permanent album. Photo stream pics stay there only for 30 days, and only up to 1000 photos are stored. Don't use photo stream as a storage medium, it's only for copying photos from one device to another. Always copy (either via USB cable or photo stream) to a computer and then move to an album.

The startup disk is the internal SSD in your MBA. You may delete files by draging the file to Trash (or clicking on them and then execute COMMAND+Delete). Then empty Trash.

having same problem here. I used to have the option to delete, but it seems to have dissapeared. I can delete but if I look in recycle its not there. If I go to undo, it says my last action was to delete the keyword which also removed it from the catalog. weird............

Gmatos, when I high-light and drag file from iTunes to my trash the usual promt of "do I want to remove it" followed by by the uual "do I want to keep the file or remove that from my library" comes up too. I click "dont keep file" and it is gone from my itunes and my library an my HD. It's exactly the same as it's always been except annoyingly this is the only way I can do it as the delete button just doesn't work in this latest version.

can u transfer files via air drop from an iphone 5 to a mac air, and mac air to a iphone 5.

I would like a constructive response, rather than an ascerbic one.
We have owned Iphones for a couple of years, and used photostream to copy photos to a PC...
Within the family, we have 2 ipod touch, 2 x iphone, 2 x ipad minis and 2x Ipad Air.
I have recently purchased a Mac desktop and would like to use this as a central backup and storage for all devices.
I have been made aware that photostream / Icloud will only do its thing and back up to the Mac whenever the designated account is open on the Mac. (so I must remember to ensure the account for each family member is opened at lease once a month)
SO, on one of the iphones, for example, we have over 900 photos in the photostream album. When connected to the Mac, only the last 30 days of photos are copied across (about 60 photos).
How can I transfer across the other 850 photos ?
I cannot copy them across to the camera roll on the iphone
I cannot access them from iphoto
the camera does not show itself as an " external drive" in Finder (Please note I am more acustomerd to using a PC).
Itunes only allows "sync" and "backup" of the phone but is not at all helpful. (No indication of what is is/has backed up or synced)
My Icloud is currently holding 12gb of my data, but the only info I KNOW is in the Icloud is my next dentist appointment.

1. i do not see a trashcan iconwhen i open the photos.
2. the photos are NOT in the 'camera roll' they are in a folder called 'iPad photos' (which is in the 'albums' section of the iPad)
3. i have re-set the iPad numerous times in order to try and resolve this. each time it is the same - no trashcan.
4. i have no method of 'moving' the photos to another folder - only the option to 'add to' a 'new folder'. since thsi won't delete the original photos, there is little point in trying this.
5. i'm guessing your next suggestion will be to completely back up and re-set my iPad? is that really what i should be doing here? surely... surely.... please, this should be a simple - select>trashcan>delete process and not something i have to spend half my working day trying to resolve! seriously, seriosly, unimpressed with Apple over this issue. it's about time that Apple gave the power back to the user on devices like these. i can understand now why people jailbreak their iPads... there rant over - but please consider my feelings over this issue.

Switch to the Finder app and open its preferences.
Remove the check mark on the items you don't want displayed in the Sidebar tab.
The originals are not removed from the machine.
