Can't import any files; mpeg, avi

I'm trying to make a megamix video of various pop vids but it won't let me import any files - it lets me select them such as mpeg, mpeg that can only be played on VLC too, avi but then it says can't import - one message did say /2048.
Can I only use .mov files?
I haven't bought that Quicktime plugin thing either - don't really agree with that to be honest!

as I wrote: iM is meant to work with miniDV camcoders.. you try something different: import NOT from camera. AND with a different "standard", as "opening a Photoshop-file with Word"...- that needs some process called conversion... into "dv", which is iM's and your camcorders standard...-
try one of the tools I listed above to convert your avi... avi is just a socalled container (as in the Mac world .mov), it can contain many media... stills, music, videos, in many different "standards", so nobody can tell you from remote, how to convert your specific .avi... mostly, these "from friends/iNet"- avis are mpeg1 or mpeg2 coded... mp1 can be converted for free with Steamclip; mpeg2 needs special treatment, use tryout of DVDxDV...
it also can contain divx or some compression-flavors, never seen before...

When I select import and then either files or folders, I am able to navigate to the drive where the media is being stored, but then when I scroll to locate the files or folders the drive disappears. Then just drag the files/folders from your hard drive into FCP. Don't use the IMPORT option...just drag and drop.
The problem started when you installed an OS that doesn't support FCP 7. So if you want things to work smoothly, it's best to go back to an OS that did support FCP 7. Yosemite was written without taking FCP 7 functionality in mind, so it isn't fully functional. It might not do one thing for someone...but works for you in that respect. But then you can't do something else. The ways it doesn't work is always random. Or it might work great for some people, because they don't use functions that might no longer work....so they don't notice it.

Can't create any files beside AVI in Media encoder CC 7.2.2.29 (64 bit)

I have a recent problem with media encoder. when ever I export media from Premiere CC to Media encoder and send it to queue (as I usually do) it seems that I cant export it to any format beside lossless AVI.
If I choose for instance H264 match source - high bitrate or WMV , after I send it to queue I see that it export the file in AVI format and not as I asked.
I'ts a new problem and I can't recall that I've made any changes in my PC.
I uninstall and re install Premiere but with no help.
any suggestions will be appreciated.

I can't import any files from itunes... the click and drag isn't working...

I've tried clicking and dragging my mp3 from the desktop, from the finder, and straight from itunes, but i can't get it to be in garageband... at all...
I feel like i'm doing the same thing i was doing even just earlier today, but it isn't working anymore...

Is your mp3 maybe called .MP3? Then try to change it to lowercase.

Can't import any .psd files into after effects.

Hello all.
I was using CS5 master collection without issue, for a year.
Decided to upgrade to the CS6 master collection and that’s when the problems began.
For example, I can’t import any .psd files into AE.
All files are saved in RGB mode.
The previous files were made on CS5.
I made a new .psd file in CS6 with just a couple of layers on it, couldn’t import that either.
I’ve tried Ctrl-alt-shift to delete preferences, that had limited success. I can import a file and do a little bit of work on it but as soon as I close the file down and opened it up again, it does not recognise the .psd file.
The errors I’m getting in AE are many
For example:
After Effects warning: Reading past end of file
After Effects error: Could not open intro.psd because it is not a valid Photoshop document
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message:<8104><dynamiclink><5>C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro exe
After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialise PSL
I have un-installed and re-installed many times.
I’m using Windows 8, with 32ram. Hard drives C: 100mg, D: 2 Tb
I’ve tried installing on both drives, still the same thing happens.
Does anyone out there in Adobe Land have any ideas?

Thanks for your response.
It actually happens with every .psd file regardless of size or specs.
All the other programs in the CS6 master collection work fine, except for AE and PS.
I tried the small file. Created a small file, 100 px by 100px 72dpi, just with a gradient background. Same thing, not enough memory to initialise PSL.
I got the adobe cleaner, and re-installed on my system (again) .... same thing.
As long as I open AE with doing ctrl-alt-shift every single time or export layers from PS individually I seem to be OK.
The problem is far from solved, so I guess i just have to put up with workarounds.

Can't Open Any File Formats

I've read some of the posts that seem to be related to my problem, but the solutions provided aren't helping me.
I can't import any movies into iMovie, regardless of format. I have converted my .MOVs to AVI, MPG4, etc. If I try to "drag media here to create new project", nothing happens. I try to Import from Camera, but it will only recognize the Built-in iSight (with my camera plugged in, of course). I have imported the movie files through iPhoto, but even from there iMovie will not open them.
I have seen a lot of posts about iMovie not recognizing Sony Cameras, and I am using a Sony DSC-H5.
Any help is appreciated.

OK, so QT Inspector says: MPEG1 Muxed
You can use iSquint (free) to convert it to MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC. MPEG Streamclip (free) can be used to convert the file to DV/DV, AIC/Linear PCM, M-JPEG/Linear PCM, Photo-JPEG/Linear PCM, MPEG-4/AAC, or H.264/AAC. FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), or similar third-party, MPEG-based applications will also work here. Other audio compressions previously mentioned can also be used but I would normally recommend AIFF (Linear PCM) for quality and AAC when you want more compact files. Do not use QT Pro, iTunes, previous versions of iMovie, GarageBand or similar QT based applications for conversion if you wish to retain any audio content. (I.e., QT and QT applications do not normally process "muxed" media audio at the file level.)

Can't import any video inAE CS 5.5

Just had AE installed and I can't import any video (.avi or .mov.) They show up grey and then if I try all files it says "it's a bad format or not readable." Two error messages about unknown exception and missing output plug-in show up when I opne AE. I have AE CS5.5, 10.6.8 Mac, QT 10 in applications file and QT 7.6.6 in utilities just installed today. I tried throwing out preferences but nothing seems to help. Plaese help me.

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and reinstall. Also make sure you get rid of Perian, if it's on your system...

Could that error message be referring to "CODEC?"
Do you know what CODEC is used in that MOV file? That is what is missing.
Some Apple CODEC's can be installed without QT Player, but it installs many. QT Pro installs even more. However, there are some, that are Mac-only, and will never install on a PC.
This ARTICLE will tell you more about the MOV (and AVI, WMV, etc.) formats, which are but "wrappers." For a more complete discussion on CODEC's, in particular, read down for CODEC's a Primer.

Imovie 5: won't import any files!!!!

please help! i'm about to have a baby and i just got all this stuff to record video of him and stuff like that. well, i tried out my imovie software and it won't import any files at all! i have .avi files from other sources and anytime i try to import them into imovie it unexpectedly crashes!! what do i do?!

Can't Import WMV Files - Header Error?

Hello, talented and attractive Adobe Forum. Weird problem with Premier Pro CS5 - when I try to import an AVI file I'm getting a message telling me that it can't import the file because of a header error. Can anyone tell me what that means, exactly? These AVI files were converted from MTS files using a freeware program, HD Converter, by Coyote. I've used this app before without a problem and the guy who's using my old software (CS3) is using these files without a problem. Any reason why CS5 might be having this issue with them?
Any advice or suggestions welcome and appreciated.

after reading about movie headers, i have come to believe that adobe could support wmv formats. but simply chooses not to do it.
apparently a lot of other software providers have made the same decision.
here is the really funny thing....i tried to make a dvd from the wmv files using microsoft's own dvd maker program
that they ship w windows 7. guess what - that does not work either!!!
apparently no-one, including microsoft, likes the proprietary microsoft format and don't feel like taking the time
to figure it all out. i cannot blame them.
what would be great - if adobe would just let you know that they do not support it, instead of the cryptic error message
about not being able to read the header. but then, adode is like that. they are so obtuse. they remain commited to
providing an incoherent user experience.
in the meantime, you just have to convert these formats.
I found a great shareware program called Hamster. It is totally free and has a lot of great reviews. It is easy to use. you
can get it on cnet.com.
I converted the WMV to AVI, which loaded into Premiere Pro and I was able to finish my video.

How can I import HDV-Files from a CF-Card to Final cut Pro 5.1.4

How can I import HDV-Files from a CF-Card (recorded with the Sony HVR Z 7E) to Final cut Pro Version 5.1.4 – is this possible at all?
I managed to import the files to Premiere, but it was just a test. I am working at a very huge documentary project with Final cut Pro Version 5.1.4 thats why I would prefere not to change the program or the version.
Simply exporting from Premiere back to final cut is also very complicated.

First, copy the card to a hard drive connected to your fcp workstation. I always back up all card based media at least 2 or three times. All hard drive will eventually fail. It's a question of when, not if.
I'm not familiar with this particular camera, but examine the contents of the copied files and see if you can find any .mov files. You can try importing these directly into fcp.
If you don't, you can try something like clipwrap

But, I'd really advise upgrading to at least fcp6 or ideally fcp7 if you can find a copy. HDV is a problematic format. Although you can certainly work with it and it's a fcp approved format, converting your media to prores would make your life much easier.

Since you can import into a library in the other user account there is something in your account that is the culprit. First make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Oost back with the results as there is one more text of your account that can be done if the above didn't help.
