Can't install Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 Pro

I have a Dell XPS L702x laptop with 2 hard drives, one of them has a MBR partition and has Hyper-V running without problems, but in the second drive, which is a SSD disk and has a GPT partition, I can't install it. It seems to install, gets to about 95%
and then I get a message: "Failure configuring windows features, reverting changes" and then it reboots and reverts the installation attempt.
I have tried the following commands:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Sfc /scannow
But no errors were found, and I also run coreinfo with this results:

Can you clarify what you're trying to do as it's unclear to me? You've got a laptop with two drives, and you've already got Hyper-V installed on the laptop, and you're now trying to install it on the other drive?
If that's the case then I'm unsure why you think you need to.
You only have Hyper-V installed once on a machine, and it's ALWAYS installed on the boot partition of the machine because that's how it works. Effectively once installed the Hypervisor sits on the boot partition, and the local copy of Windows becomes a management
VM running on top of the hypervisor (that's why the VM's you create get as good performance as the host OS does, as they sit alongside each other rather than on top of one another).
If you're trying to use the second drive (the SSD) for Hyper-V then you simply need to create a new VM from within Hyper-V that you have installed already, and during the installation you're able to choose where to put the VM files, at which point you can
set it to use the SSD for those files.
I've got the same setup on my home machine, though in reverse, eg my boot partition is an SSD, and I've got a large HDD that hosts my VMs.

  • After installing Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 Pro, my computer won't boot

I have a somewhat new (June 2013) HP laptop originally running Windows 8 Pro. I installed the Hyper-V component right away and it was running great. After testing Windows 8.1 Pro on another computer a couple months ago, I decided to upgrade my HP laptop and
Hyper-V continued to work great after the upgrade.
Yesterday, after a Windows Update failed, I was not able to boot my laptop. It would hang with the HP Logo and spinning circle at the point when the Boot Manager normally starts up Windows. Trying to do a recovery reported a failure, but no specific reason
except to say boot failed and that a Restart might correct the error, but it would just hang on the HP Logo every time I would try to boot. I reinstalled the Windows 8.1 Pro OS and the laptop was working fine until I would install Hyper-V.
I have gone thru this sequence 3 times. The first time, I pulled the latest Windows Updates, then installed Hyper-V, IIS and some other components and after this install required a Restart, my laptop hung at the HP Logo. The second time, I did not enable
any Windows Updates, but installed Hyper-V and IIS and again, after the Restart my laptop hung. So, the final time, I only installed Hyper-V and after the Restart, my laptop hung once again.
Since Hyper-V used to work, it would not seem to make sense that I have a hardware compatibility problem. I have also run the extensive built in firmware Disk tests and other diagnostics taking several hours to complete and these all passed.
I am now using my laptop without Hyper-V and it is working fine, but I hoping to find a reason/solution for the problem caused by installing Hyper-V so that I can once again install and use it.

    Hi,
Generally speaking, when you add feature like Hyper-V, system would take a long time to get this feature configured. if your computer still stay updates configuration steps, you can use Windows 8.1 installation image to repair system. In system repair mode,
you can access into Command Prompt mode, and check CBS.log which located at C:\Windows\logs\CBS. This log file would record Windows installation process, we may find the problem of Hyper-V stallation.

    Hello,
Hyper-V related questions should be posted in the Hyper-V forums here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/thread
Hyper-V can be installed on Windows 8 Pro, does not matter if Windows 8 Pro is OEM.  Windows 8 does not have the ability to install Hyper-V.

  • Installing Hyper-V on Windows 7

    Hi!
I installed Hyper-V on Windows 7, but when I try to connect to local host, the follow message appears:
"Hyper-V has not been installed on computer localhost""
    Someone can help me?
    Regards

    Hello,
There is a solution, you 'll still be able to run a virtual machine on Windows 7. You've got to first create a Virtual Hard disk (vhd) then install Windows Server 2008R2 on it by WIM2VHD. Create a boot entry by bcdedit. Then you have your new environment
    where you can install hyper-V!
    Bye, Sébastien
Please explain how you can run Hyper-V in Windows 7 if you install Server 2008 R2 in a VHD.  The Server 2008 R@ VHD is a separate environment on the HDD.  When you boot the Server 2008 R2 VHD you are not running Windows 7.
    Read the information found @
http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/129475-boot-windows-7-from-vhd-an-amazing-concept/ about booting from VHD.  Your method of creating the Server 2008 R2 VHD will not work.  Server 2008 R@ must be installed to its own separate VHD the same as with
    the Windows 7 VHD.

  • How to install hyper-v on windows 8 ?

How to install hyper-v on windows 8 ?
I want to install virtual PC but after some research I came to know that windows 8 no longer support virtual pc and it has been replaced by something called hyper-v.
    I just bought a Windows 8 laptop.
I tried looking into windows on / off features (in control panel) and there is NO hyper-V.
I know why I don't have hyper-V because after doing some research it seems like it is only available on windows 8 PRO.
    Here is comparison chart:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8_editions#Comparison_chart
I have Widows 8 on my laptop (NOT Windows PRO).
Now in this situation, how to install hyper-v on my laptop ?
Also, will I be able to run windows 7 virtually on my windows 8 laptop using hyper-v just like virtual pc ? like switching in windows between OS ? If I cannot do this and hyper-v does not work like virtual PC then I don;t think hyper-v will be useful to
me at all and i don't wanna figure it out if it is not useful in any way ?

    Hi jeffcarter,
To enable the Windows 8 Client Hyper-V feature, our computer needs to meet the following requirements:
    1. Hardware supports Second Level Address Translation (SLAT)
    2. 64-bit Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise.
    3. 4 GB or above of RAM.
Therefore, it seems that your computer cannot install Hyper-V. Also, Windows Virtual PC cannot be run on Windows 8. Thanks for your understanding.
In addition, regarding how to configure your BIOS to enable Intel VT-X, you can refer to your motherboard’s operating manual or query the vendor support for help.

  • Is possible to install Hyper-V on windows 7 Enterprise ?

Is possible to install Hyper-V on windows 7 Enterprise ? if yes 64bit or 32bit?

    Hi Velavan,
Hyper-V is only available on Windows Server, Windows 8 and above or as a standalone Hyper-V server. However the client version on windows 8 and above will not allow clustering and so
on and is  great for development or training environments but not production.
If you are just looking to manage remote Hyper-V hosts on a windows 7 client you can download the RSAT tools and install Hyper-V manager and Failover Cluster Manager which will allow you to manage
    your remote hosts or clusters.
    Kind Regards

    Can't install C:\AS10gNT_Disk1 on windows-desperated--Help .
hello forum it seems as if i have miss understood something about installing C:\AS10gNT_Disk1,2,3.
1: i have unziped all the 3 zip files in there respectivelly folders.
    for examples.C:\AS10gNT_Disk1\Disk1.
i have oracle 9is db installed on my pc,
so in a previous maill somebody adviced me, plus the installation errors showed me that i could't installed it in C:\oracle\ora92 witch is where I have oracle9is db installed.
Then I was told that I could just give any new oracle_home and path.
but this is not working for me.
when I run oracle universal installation.
    destination.Then
Enter or select an oracle home name and its full path.
as i have to enter a different name from my previous one where oracle9isdb is installed,
    then I write
    name oracleServer,
path c:\oracleServer when i do that i get the following errors.
There was a problem in accesing the staging area.

    Hi,
actually I can only tell how it worked for me. I unzipped all zips into teh same directory and ended up with
    d:\stage\disk1
    d:\stage\disk2
    d:\stage\disk3
Then I started the installer from disk 1 and follwoed all teh instructions. I did specify an Oracle Home as OracleAsInfra for the infrastructure to be in d:\OracleAsInfra and similar for teh Midtier OracleAsMidtier to be in d:\OracleAsMidtier
    The rest ran smoothly

For Internet Explorer, you don't. Microsoft has already done it.
For Firefox, Opera or Safari, use the Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
For Chrome, you don't need to wither because Google puts it in the browser.

Just like my title, I can't install Dreamweaver 8 on Windows 7 Release Candidate.
I can start the installation, but it just stuck at "installing" for very long time, and the installation just can not Continue...
I already try to running it in XP compatibility mode( Windows XP SP2), and the answer is the same: can't install.
    Can anyone advise, please?

I'm afraid you may be out of luck.  DW 8 is 3 versions old and was not tested to work on the new operating system.
There have been reports that some people are unable to run CS4 or are having problems with CS4 on Windows 7, so I doubt very much that DW8 would work.  Sorry.

  • How can I install and run a Windows program on my MacBook Pro/?

How can I install and run a Windows program on my MacBook Pro?

    You have several options.
1, Use a Virtual Machine like Vmware, Parallels etc... to Create a Virtual Windows Installation and Run your program in there.  A Virtual MAchine will runn in a Window on your Desktop and share your Mac's resources RAM HD space processor. Your MAc desktop will still be available while you run Windows install.
    http://www.parallels.com/
    2. Install Windows on a partition using Bootcamp. It will run a full installation of Windows you can boot into, and run your programs.  The Mac desktop will not available until your reboot the computer and start in OSx instead of Windows.

    3. Use Wine /  Winebottler to run the Application without the need for a complete Windows installation.

  • Can't install Dreamweaver CS4 on WIndows 7.  Setup error

I can't install Dreamweaver CS4 on WIndows 7.  I get a vague error that says Setup error, sontact Adobe Customer Support. Adobe Customer Support refuses to help me.  That really upsets me.

First of all I would like to thank the people that responded to my post.  I am extreemly impressed with your eagerness to help and your concern for my problem.  Thank you very much! I appreciate it.
I did not see a way to get a transcript of my chat.  I should have printed it at the conclusion of my chat. Overall though, I think my concerns are with Windows itself and also how Adobe as a company handles a call from someone who gets an installation error that says "call Adobe Customer Support". I purchased this program to run on Windows 7 and I am installing it on a Windows 7 computer. I feel that if Adobe is going to give a vague error message and tell you to contact them, they should give me more assistance than "your product is too old, good luck on the forums". I could see if I am calling and asking them how to do something, maybe my product is too old for that, but I think their responce was unacceptable.  I hope enough other people complain so that Adobe changes this policy.
Wow, this has taken an enormous amount of time to deal with. I imagine this is mainly a Windows file permissions issue, but I think Adobe needs to take some ownership for a client having to spend many HOURS trying to install their program on the original OS they purchased the program for.
I definitely do not like the way the Adobe Dreamweaver installer deals with errors. Here are the facts as I know them.
When the installer would fail on install, the subsequesnt install would fail, but it would give a VERY cryptic error stating that the install failed and I need to contact Adobe customer service.
In order to re-install I had to un-install.  Naturally my un-installs failed every time, too. After lots of trial and error and checking the forumns, I found   the program install folders under c:\programs. I deleted them, re-booted, unistalled again with no errors.  Then I could re-install without the vague "contact Adobe customer support" error.  Note that I had to re-install several times to get to the bottom of the installation problem so this took a long time to figure out.
In the end, I had to manually delete files from C:\Windows\Installer in order to get Dreamweaver to install.  This took a long time to figure out, too.  It still installed with errors, but it said Dreamweaver would work with limited functionality. So far this is good enough for me and I am tired of spending non-billable time on this.
Following is one of the main erros I got during the first failed install.  IF ANYONE KNOWS EXACTLY WHY MY INSTALL WAS FAILING I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.  IT SEEMS LIKE IT DID NOT HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO ACCESS THOSE FILES, BUT THAT SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE AS THE PROGRAM IS INSTALLED AS ADMINISTRATOR. Any thoughts???
    Thanks again everyone who helped!
