Can't Install Logic 8

I've decided that it's time for me to leave OS9 behind and start making music in OSX. I bought a Logic 8 as it's now super cheap and at the weekend tried to install it on my Mac.
My MDD 1.25 G4 is right at the bottom end of the minimum system requirements but it's on there. So I poped in the first DVD and double clicked the installer. And up popped a message saying that my video card didn't meet the recommended system requirements. However it turns out that recommeded system requirements really means minimum system requirements as the installer doesn't allow me to proceed any further and quits.
Checking these forums reveals that my problem is that I have replaced the stock AGP graphics card (Radeon 9000) that came with the Mac with the superior Radeon 9200 PCI card which gives me much better performance with my dual monitor set up. However OSX doesn't support Quartz Extreme via PCI (which is the sticking point for the Logic installer). There was a hack available to get around this but its broken for 10.4.3 and above and Logic requires 10.4.9.
What I am not happy about is firstly that the dialogue box is misleading - surely it should say that my card doesn't meet the MINIMUM requirement - after all if it won't run without a Quartz Extreme then that to me is a minimum requirement. Recommended implies that it will run, I might just be missing out on some eye candy and graphics performance may be compromised in places, which I could probably live with.
However there is also no mention of this requirement on either the box for Logic 8 or on the system requirements on the Logic 8 page here, and although I probably wouldn't have realised that my choice of graphics cards would be a problem before trying to install, it would have made troubleshooting easier.
Also while I realise that I have configured my Mac in a non-standard way, however, the problem in my case isn't the absence of the AGP graphics card, but the presence of the PCI one. Logic is one one those programs that greatly benefits from multiple monitor set-ups. It was the app that convinced me of the benefits of a dual monitor set up and one that could easily make use of at least 3 monitors. However this of course requires the use of PCI cards to get support for more than 2 monitors.
Not at all happy...

Well I've had some success with the installer by swapping out the Radeon 9200 PCI card for another AGP Graphics card I borrowed from a MDD G4 at work.
I got EXACTLY the same message about the graphics card not meeting the recommended specifications as before except this time the button at the bottom of the dialogue said "Continue" instead of "Close" as it had previously...
Proceeding with the installer I decided to install everything while I could and remove any components I didn't need later. However about half way through the 4th DVD (Content 3) the Mac froze solid and I could only get out of this by powering down from the front panel button. This is a problem I'd been having but one that appeared to have been cured by removing the original AGP card and just using the PCI graphics card.
I tried launching Logic and it looks OK but the interface has changed so much since v4 (which is what I've been using up to now) that I was pretty much lost for the moment. Hopefully it'll all still work when I've swapped the graphics cards back.
So can anyone tell me what I've missed out on from a complete install? The application and Content 1 and 2 DVDs all completed. Can I just run the content 3 DVD on its own? - it took well over an hour to reach the point where the Mac froze on me, and less of this I have to repeat the better.
Thanks

    Kerrse,
    ...and it's content?
While your method will get the app itself across.. the content will present a possible problem, though once it is updated to 9.1.8 the OP could try the "in menu' option to download content but the essential stuff normally gets installed from the DVDs initially with LP9 Boxed set... so it may not be as easy as simply copying across the app only.
    However, worth giving a try.....

  • How many macs can I install Logic studio on?

Ok so i recently bought my first ever iMac.
And i installed logic studio on it, but I am considering a Mac Pro because honestly; i love my iMac but i kind of just want this imac for 'personal' things (movies, music, family photos, videos ect.)
    and I want a Mac Pro just for logic and any other PRO apps I buy later on. So i was wondering if anyone can help me with the question i have;
How many macs can I install Logic studio on?

It's in your Logic Studio license agreement:
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you. This License does not allow the Apple Software to run on more than one computer at a time.

  • Can i install logic pro without the cd because my dvd driver of my mac doesn't work . i have the key for logic pro

can i install logic pro without cd ? , i have the key for the logic pro but my dvd driver of my mac doesnt work ?

Buy an external USB2 DVD/CD drive..... (Amazon's Basic model works great)
    Or..
Borrow someone else's Mac that has a DVD drive fitted and use that via Remote Disk
    Note:
There is no legal means of downloading available for Logic Pro 9.. unless you originally purchased it via the App Store..
Therefore, in your case, you must install from the DVDs you have...

  • How can I install Logic Pro 8 on my OSX Lion?

Having had to do a clean install of OSX Lion I find I can't install Logic 8 on my system. I can't understand why an expensive in-house product that is only 4 years old can't be installed on the latest OS. Can't find any advice from Apple, and am still waiting for a call back fron the support line.
How can I get around this - I have already spent a day re-installing all my other software on Lion, so reverting to Snow Leopard is not an option.

What do you mean, it's not installing?
Give more details please... We cannot mind read or see your screen here

This message appears: You can't open the aplication LogicPro.mpkg because power pc aplications are no longer compatible.
    Thanks folks

You should be able to copy all the files from your old computer, although it might not work if the old machine didn't have an intel processor. When I got a new Mac a few months ago, I used the migration assistant to copy everything from my old computer's time machine backup disk. All my old pro apps, such as Final Cut Pro 6, work fine on the new machine under Lion.
Later, I wanted to install Soundtrack pro and couldn't do it from the original disks. So I installed it on my old machine and copied the files. It worked perfectly.

can you install logic express on more than one computer ?

Be sure to read the End User Licensing Agreement for questions of this nature. You are allowed to install Logic on two computers that you own, for example an iMac and a MacBook Pro. You cannot, however, use the two computers at the same time if they are on the same network. You can use one computer as a Logic Node to shift some of the processing load (which you would likely do with an ethernet cable) but you don't need to have a full installation of Logic on the Node  machine, just the Logic Node installation. The idea of allowing two installations is so that you might take advantage of a portable  computer in the field for on-site recording then later transfer those files to a desktop studio set up for further editing.

I wouldn't even need disks or USB installer, I'd just like to be able to download an actual installer or have the MAS have the option to save the install files.  And I think "professional" or not is irrelevant to the issue.
That works... at least for me but not all users have access to stable high speed Internet... look at all of the aborted, partial or corrupted downloads we see on this forum alone.
The point is, Apple calls the shots and makes it easy on themselves with no alternate option. Not only that, they get free technical support from their users... that actually rely on this forum, clients I know have called Apple in regards to a technical problem and rather than upgrade the query they're sent here. They do know how to keep the ball in their court.
The other point is.. the low price is Apple's carrot on a stick, if someone complains about the download size and time involved, Apple counters.. "that's how were able to keep the price low" which tells me exactly who they're marketing to now.. and it's not professional users because pros wouldn't mind paying a little extra to have options.

  • How many Macs can you install Logic Express on?

I upgraded to LE 7.1 from the Logic Audio 5/6 Big Box. I needed the XSKey to authorize the LE 7.1 upgrade -- I'm wondering, how many installations of LE 7.1 does it allow? Just for utility's sake it would be useful to install it on a desktop and a laptop, for instance.
As the XSKey still has authorizations for those previous Big Box versions, I presume I could still install Logic 5 and 6 on as many machines as I wanted, I'd just have to always have the XSKey plugged into the particular one I wanted to use at that time...right?

The agreement can be found here
    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/logicexpress.pdf
    Section 2 first para
Simply you can install it on one laptop and one desktop (See the para for specifics) at the same time, but you can only use on one of these at a time.
You cannot therefore have the same license on two laptops, you need two copies.
How does it check? No idea. I don't have two apple computers.
