Can't manually add album artwork through iTunes 10.5 on an iPhone 4s

Ok, heres the deal - (and this is a weird one)
I have iTunes 10.5, windows xp and a new iPhone 4s. I am missing multiple album covers so I just find high-res ones on google and save them in preparation of manually adding them to the album via iTunes. The way I do this (and have always done this) is by highlighting the whole album, right clicking and going to 'get info'. Then I go the bottom right corner where it says "Artwork" and double click to open the folder of all my highres album covers. I then choose the correct album and click on 'open'. The artwork box stays BLANK no matter how many times I choose a cover and open it. So then I wait for it to sync the non-cover to the iphone...which doesnt work because its not syncing anything but it thinks it is. I then have to DO THE PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN to make it work. Generally it finally takes the album cover after the 2nd time. Generally.
Now heres the thing, sometimes it just hangs up on the title at the top of the screen, the status bar. It just says "Updating Files On 'Derek's iPhone' ("preparing to update" is the sub text) with the little candycane status bar running across. It may do this and hang for a good 3 minutes EACH TIME!
So I have to go through multiple albums, one by one, manually syncing album covers 2 times in a row since it never works the first time and hope that it doesnt hang too long and just time out, which it has done multiple times before. If it doesnt work the first 2 times, then I'll try 3 or 4 times but then it will just time out, not saying any error or anything but it just wont transfer the album artwork. I'll look at my phone and the cover is still blank!
The only way around this, that I've found, is quit iTunes and unplug the phone and start the whole process over again for EVERY. ALBUM. and btw, I have about 40 albums to do this to.
So all this music came from cd's a while ago, I just dont want to pay for the iTunes version JUST to get the album cover since I already have the music.
At this rate, it would take me a few months of non-stop syncing to finish.
And on top of THAT, a few weeks back I made some serious headway on this and almost got finished to the "S" albums (listed alphabetically), checked my phone, all the covers were there. Then about a week later, plugged my phone back in and noticed that AAAALLLL the work I did in the past was GONE! I had to start over from the "G" albums. And thats where I'm at now...
Please help
P.S. - Of course I've already tried "get album artwork"..duh, it doesnt work. It doesnt get the right covers or horrible versions or low res or MOST times, it just says it can't find any

I am currently having the same problem. I have an ipod touch and yesterday I finally updated to 10.5. For starters, after the update, all of the songs were gone, so I manually had to re-add them. I have about 5 CD albums on my PC that I ripepd and then added to my ipod, and about 3/5 I never had album cover issues with. But upon plugging in my ipod again today, the album covers were gone for ALL of the CDs. On top of that, when I manually change the "info" on some songs, it is updated on itunes, but not on my Ipod!

  • I can't manually add album artwork to the tracks.

Everytime I try to add an album cover to an album I go to "Get Info", then paste the album artwork in the album cover box. But when I paste the album cover the small box is still blank, and if I click on "Ok" button the album artwork of the entire album is now a black square. I tried unninstalling and reinstalling the itunes and I still have that problem. I have the last version of itunes the 10.4 update. Can somebody tell me what is going on?.

Do I paste it into any specific folder in iTunes or what?
No, iTunes will not be looking in that folder. The file simply has to be somewhere on your computer. However, if you place them in a folder that Syncs the pictures in it to your iPod, those pictures will take up additional space on your iPod.
I created a folder specifically for this problem and place the pictures in that. Then I simply copy them from there and into iTunes.

  • Get Info does not allow me to manually add album artwork

    Hello,
I am trying to manually upload album artwork on iTunes with my Windows PC (Windows 8.1 64 bit).  I followed all of the steps for doing this as outlined here in the Help section.  I did a Google search, found the album artwork in JPEG format on the internet, and then saved it to a folder on my hard drive. I then went back into iTunes, right clicked on the album that is missing its artwork, and clicked the "Get info" button.  When the next screen opens I select the "Artwork" tab, and then I select the "Add Artwork button."  This opens up a browser for my file directory, and then I went to the folder where I  saved the album artwork and double clicked on the particular JPEG I wanted to add for the CD.  The JPEG was immediately loaded onto the screen, and everything looked good to go. However, when I hit the "OK" button to select this uploaded album artwork which is loaded on the screen, for whatever reason iTunes does not save it, and the album artwork icon for the CD remains blank. Let me know where I am going wrong, or if this is a bug that needs to be addressed.
Also, I have a program called Music Collectorz that I am using to catalog all of my CDs as I burn my collection to iTunes.  For those CDs in which the Collectorz program cannot automatically find or identify the appropriate album artwork on its own, I can open up the Collectorz program's own version of "Get Info" and select "Find Cover Art."  By doing this, the Collectorz program automatically does a search on the internet--without me having to leave the Collectorz program--and retrieves several "hits" it located for the missing artworkwhich it displays on another window within the program. I then simply double click with the mouse on the photo of the artwork file I want to upload to associate with the particular CD, and it is automatically uploaded and associated with the CD. Also, the Collectorz program will only allow you to upload artwork that is saved in file formats and sizes that are supported by the program like JPEG files.
It seems to me that Apple should have an easy way like this to manually add album artwork in iTunes. I should not have to do a separate Google search outside of the iTunes program, then save a JPEG to my hard-drive in another folder, and then go back into iTunes to add (or try to add) it to a CD's profile.  This is a waste of time, and involves several unnecessary steps.  This process should all be incorporated through the iTunes program as a one-stop shop method.  I should never have to leave the iTunes program to add any artwork ever.
I look forward to your response on this.
    Thanks,

I assume that there are legal restrictions on the way in which iTunes can get artwork automatically from any source apart from the iTunes Store (which is what the right-click > Get Album Artwork function uses).  For example, even though the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to match CDs and retrieve metadata (artist, album, track titles, etc.) also has artwork functions, iTunes does not make use of these.
For manual addition of artwork, there are three cases where the image you select may not be correctly embedded in your media files:
your media are in a format that doesn't accommodate embedded artwork - typically WAV files.  To embed artwork you'll need to convert to another format - Apple Lossless or AIFF if you want to preserve lossless quality, AAC or MP3 otherwise.
your media files are read only - to fix this, use Windows Explorer to find the folder that contains your files, right-click and select Properties.  On the General tab there's a check box labeled "Read-only" - if this is checked, or is grey (sometimes blue), click the box so that the flag is unchecked and the box is white.  Click OK, and then OK again when the "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" option selected.  Now try adding the artwork again.
Windows permissions issues are preventing iTunes from updating your media files (there's some anecdotal evidence of a change in this behavior in iTunes 12).  See turingtest2's notes on Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice on fixing this, then try adding the artwork again.

You can only join tracks when importing from a CD and likewise, the Options button is also only visible when importing from CD.
When the CD is in the drive and showing in iTunes, you will see Options, CD Info and Import CD choices. If you select Options, the Join CD Tracks option only appears when you have two or more adjacent tracks selected. See the screenshots below:

  • Can't add album artwork in iTunes 10.5.3.3

I just installed iTunes 10.5.3.3 and now I can't add album artwork.  The Artwork tab is missing from Get Info.  Any ideas?

I have the exact problem with this same iTunes version. However, I just did an experiment. It seems to be primarily limited to songs I've placed via FLAC files, which were "converted" using Fluke. Hmmm... Anyone have a fix for this?

  • Unable to add album artwork to iTunes

Try as I might, I'm unable to add album artwork to an album that I have in iTunes.
I've bought up the Info dialog for the album by either command + I or from the context menu to get the info for the entire album - and then I've tried dragging the album artwork as a JPEG, PNG and a re-saved JPEG to the album well or copying it in Finder and pasting it onto the well - and I've also got the open file dialog to appear by double-clicking on the well and picked it that way ... And nothing, I just can't get the artwork to appear.
Is there something that I'm not doing or is this a bug? It's very frustrating.

I have the same problem -- it used to be so simple with the previous version of iTunes.

  • Why can't i add album artwork to most of my music?

seems like itunes will only let me add album art of mp3's, not my main music library. am i doing something wrong?

    It's mostly wav files.
why does it not let us add album artwork to wav files? i like keeping my library as wav files instead of compressing my music.

  • Can't Add Album Artwork in iTunes 9.2.1 (5) ?

    Hello,
I downloaded the latest iTunes update and now I am unable to add artwork to my iTunes library? BEFORE the update, I noticed that iTunes had dropped some of the Album ARtwork that I previously added, so I figured I would add the art after installing said update.
1st, I tried dragging the album cover art from Safari right into EITHER the "Show album artwork" panel and the same in the "Get Info" Dialogue box. Nada, nothing, Zippo.
2nd, I tried downloading the album art from Safari to my desktop and dragging it into either the artwork panel or the "Get Info" dialogue box....Nothing, Nada, snake eyes, Pffffft.
Any Suggestions, besides waiting for the next update?

  • How do I add album artwork to iTunes, but NOT to the ID3 tag, manually?

I imported a lot of mp3s into iTunes. After some messing about with ID3 tags, I got iTunes to download most of the Artwork for my albums.
I've found a lot of the other covers using Slothradio, and I started to copy the images into iTunes. However, I noticed that it was actually adding the images into the ID3tags.
When I checked the music for which iTunes downloaded the covers, it DIDN'T put the artwork into the tags.
So, how do I add the covers to iTunes like it does itself, without putting them in the ID3 tags?
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers,

  • Can't add album artwork to itunes

In particular most Beatles album artwork just doesn't work. I bring the jpg into the info window and it appears in the artwork frame but doesn't come up in itunes at all. Is this a Beatles copyright issue?
    4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No I tried that. The image goes into the frame and appears but doesn't embed itself. So if I choose another tune then come back to it, it's gone. The image display is blank.
I also just downloaded the Amazon artwork widget that works great for all my other songs but it gives me an error message that "itunes isn't turned on" whenever I try to import a Beatles album artwork.

  • How can I manually transfer album artwork from my library to my iPod

I downloaded album artwork to the songs in my library, and now I want to get the artwork onto the songs on my iPod classic. Problem is, I manually manage the songs on my ipod, instead of auto-syncing.... so when I hit the "sync" button in the latest version of iTunes (11.1.1.11), nothing happens. There also isn't a "show album artwork on iPod" button anymore. I'm afraid to change my settings from manual to automatic syncing, because I have lots of playlists on my iPod that aren't in my library, and I don't know if these playlists will be removed during the auto-sync. So how can I manually get the album artwork onto my iPod?
    Thanks,
    Rob

You can only backup iOS devices.
Sadly the old trick of removing all artwork and then adding it all back again no longer works. You may get some joy if you removed the specific album, then add it back again, butgenerally once things go wrong with artwork on a classic the only option is to restore it. Not a problem if all the media is in your library and you sync with a small number of selected playlists. If you don't have all the media see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Can I use multiple Album Artworks in iTunes?

    Hi everyone.
So I have a 5 disc Album in my iTunes library. & I have artwork for each disc & then the album itself. I'd like to be able to use the artwork for each disc, so that every track has the corresponding artwork for the disc that its from. But I'd also like to use the main album art, so I can see it when browsing through my albums. But I can't find a way to do this.
I already know how to give each disc in one album its individual artwork, I've already done that. But I can't find a way to use the main album art just as a cover for the album, without it replacing every tracks album art.
Is this possible, at all? Thank you!

You can give track 1 of the first disc the main album artwork. That should show when you play track 1 at top of the screen and when browsing albums. All other tracks would then show the individual disc art at the top when played or in the mini-player with the artwork panel showing.
FWIW you can embed multiple images in each track but iTunes doesn't have a way to show them automatically.

  • Can't manually add an Mp3 to my daughter's 1st gen iPhone using my iTunes

I want to bring an MP3 file into my daughter's phone, one that can't be purchased on iTunes. I want to do this by managing her iPhone manually on my machine, which of course is set to sync with my iPhone, not hers. I'm running Windows 7. I've tried it 2 ways.
    1. In iTunes, when I click the Summary tab, and under Options choose "Manually manage music and videos", I get an iTunes dialog with the message "The iPhone '[My daughter's phone]' is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?" The buttons available are "Erase and Sync" and "Cancel". Obviously I want to choose Cancel because I don't want her phone syncing on my machine. (Or can iTunes handle multiple iPhones on one account? Hers is on my account.)
When I click "Cancel" I get another iTunes dialog with the message. "The iPhone '[My daughter's iPhone]' is synced with another photo library or folder. Do you want to sync with the selected folder and replace all existing photos and albums on this iPhone with those from the selected folder?". Choices are Yes and No.
    This time I click No.
When I click her iPhone on iTunes under DEVICES, then click Music, the choices are all disabled. NO way to drag and drop MP3 into the music list from Windows Explorer.
    2. I import the MP3 into iTunes (successfully), then try to drag it from my library onto her phone's list under DEVICES.
When I click her iPhone on iTunes under DEVICES, then click Music, the choices are again all disabled as above. No way to drag and drop from my library into her iPhones music directory.
How, then, can I import an MP3 to my daughter's iPhone using my iTunes on my machine? I have read the iPhones iTunes documentation thoroughly and this issue is not addressed.

Iphone will sync manually manage/access music from ONE computer at a time.
You cannot add content from two different machines.
You can copy the song to her computer and then sync to iphone from there.
If you sync to a different computer, then all music on the iphone will be erased and replaced with music from the new computer.

  • ITunes 7- Can't add album artwork

Lotta dsicussion about this topic, but I haven't seen my particular problem come up. When I try to manually add album artwork nothing happens. I've seen other people say they couldn't get it to work when they just dragged the artwork, but I can't get it to work when I crt+click and get info either. When I get info and paste the artwork into the box, the image shows up, but when I click okay, nothin happens. I make sure the checkbox beside the artwork is checked before I hit Okay.
Apple's automatic get album artwork worked pretty well, but only found about 80% of my albums. Pretty good considering the weird crap I listen to, but I'm pretty anal, and if 80% is gonna have artwork I want the rest to also.
Would the problem be that my library is on an external HD?
Is the problem that my computer (G3 ibook, 640MB SDRAM, OSX 10.4.7) is getting on in years? I can't think of any other ways to tell it to get the artwork, any help would be much appreciated!!

For files that won't let you change their artwork, there are two primary things you can check.
Firstly, make sure that the file is writable. If it is on a volume where permissions are managed, make sure you can write to both the file and the folder it is contained in. Select the file in iTunes, command-R, then use Get Info in the Finder to set the file/folder write access if necessary.
Next make sure the Creator and Type of the file isn't set to an iTunes unfriendly type. I know this was an issue in previous versions of iTunes. For example, for an mp3 file Creator=hook Type=MPG3. I know this sounds like stupid advice, setting resource fork information when Apple is telling us to stay away from using resource forks in OS X. iTunes apparently hasn't heard the news.
Perhaps adding album artwork to a file on an external volume is acting like the funny behavior of adding artwork to files on iPods. You apparently can't do it directly, but instead have to stage the artwork adding action on the volume which contains your iTunes Music folder, place the files in a temporary LIBRARY based playlist in iTunes, then drag copy the files from this playlist into the target iPod DEVICES playlist.
It is no longer clear to me what actions constitute an embed artwork action (place associated artwork inside the ID3 tag area of the file itself) versus an attach artwork action (place associated artwork in a separate artwork folder). This is extremely confusing stuff for an application that begins with a lower case i.

  • Can't Drag Album Artwork into iTunes

For some reason I can no longer drag album artwork into iTunes. If I click on a song or on a group of songs and there is no artwork available, I can no longer drag album art to the "Drag Album Artwork Here" in the bottom left corner. Same goes for when I right click and say "Get Info". It will show a little green plus sign as I drag the picture over the drop area but nothing happens.
I'm running 10.4 and have made sure that I have read and write privledges to all of the specified folders.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

Where are you dragging the images from? It might just be that particular site, if you're using the same location time and time again. I use Amazon music when looking for album art for iTunes and generally have good luck with it.
Are you trying to drag artwork for songs that already have artwork associated with them? Sometimes you might want to clear the downloaded artwork for those tracks and then drag in the new image. I've run into this in cases where I've downloaded a single track from iTunes but then used something else to complete the album.
Beyond those suggestions, you might want to try re-creating your iTunes Library, per the steps in this document. Note that some data may be lost, such as play counts and date added.
