Can't modify text on Type Overlay in Acrobat Pro 9.0

I'm trying to modify a menu for a local restaurant. They gave me the file as a .pdf file, and it's listed as a Type Overlay file. Advanced editing and touch up text tool do not work (I'm trying to delete an item that is no longer served).
The entire menu page comes up as an object / picture, not as text. Using the touch up text tool does delete the desired text, but it changes the entire layout of the page, moving text over several columns and covering existing text. Trying to realign the text by putting space in the missing pieces location just compounds the problem in several bizarre ways.
How do I determine what type of format this is. It says there are no layers, it appears to be one image, but deleting or changing any portion of the image causes undesired movement of text. How do I delete, or insert text as the menu changes?
Thanks!
John

Here's an update to the problem I was having.
I couldn't find any way to edit the pdf "as is" in Acrobat, but through obstinance and trying everything at my disposal that had even a slim chance of working, I came up with a solution.
By opening the pdf up in Adobe Illustrator, it gave me the ability to cut / paste, delete and modify the text without problems or errors. I was then able to resave as a pdf. The file works great, and though I still can't modify it in Acrobat, Illustrator works fine until I get the original file.
On a related note, Illustrator allowed me to remove the menu background from the pdf file and save it (the text only) as another pdf, getting rid of clutter but maintaining alignment so it still prints on the menu paper and stays in line with the graphics.
I hope this helps others!

Download AA 9 Pro from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html. Make a new backup for your archive. You might also take the DVD to your library to see if it is a drive problem. You might also carefully clean the DVD with water and soap (do not use anything that would scratch the surface or you have destroyed it for sure) and see if that solves the problem. This is particularly an issue if you have finger prints or other crud on the DVD. However, it could also be a bad drive as I mentioned. Hopefully the download solves your problem in any case (I would backup the download to CD and/or backup HD).

  • Hello, I have MacBook Pro with Retina display. How can I get retina support to my Adobe Acrobat pro? It is version 10.1.13 and it says it is up to date.

Hello, I have MacBook Pro with Retina display. How can I get retina support to my Adobe Acrobat pro? It is version 10.1.13 and it says it is up to date.

Problem is that my pdf files look terrible although I have MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). I have Adobe Creative Suite Design  Standard version 6.0 (Mac). I have installed every possible update. I think problem is that for some reason my CS doesn´t support retina display? If I view a pdf file in iMessage, it looks fantastic. But if I open the same document in Adode Acrobat Pro, it looks awful. What can I do?
Thank you so much for your help.

  • Can I modify the data type of a dynamic parameter?

I am using CR2008 against an Oracle 11 db and have a report with dynamic parameters.
One of the report sources is a custom view that selects all of the possible 'pay ending dates' where one of the fields from this view is used as the source for the dynamic parameter.
The view performs a TRUNC on the date field in an effort to eliminate the TIME component.
The problem is that the parameter definintion defaults to DATE/TIME (vs. just DATE). I'm wondering if there is any way to modify the data type of the parameter to be DATE only.
I've searched several forumns but have not found anything.
One solution I can think of is to have the custom view format the date field as a VARCHAR (sans the time component) which I assume would force the dynamic parameter data type to string, and then have the report perform a todate function on the value when applying the criteria.
Anyone else have an idea? Just seems like CR should allow the developer to specify the data type- especially b/w Date and Date/Time, rather than make an assumption.
    Thank you in advance-
    emaher

    emaher,
    Here's what you can do:
Leave the existing date column as it is in the view...
Just add another column to the view that casts the the date as a VarChar data type and formats the date as you would like it to be.
So now you'll have 2 date columns in the view... 1 that's still a date and another that a character string.
Now for your parameter, use the date version as the parameter value and the text version as the parameter description.
Be sure to set the "Prompt with description only" is set to true.
This way the user sees the LoV in the desired format but there's not need to wrangle it back into a date for data selection.

  • Adding alt text tags in InDesign (and Acrobat Pro)

I am having real difficulty adding alternative text tags. I created an INDD doc with rollover buttons linked to URLs firstly in InDesign CS4. I couldn't add alt text tags in CS4 so I then tried to add them in Acrobat X Pro but failed. Acrobat keeps wanting to class the PDF as a form. I then installed InDesign CS6 from the cloud and added alt text to the rollover buttons via object export options. However, these do not show when I export to PDF.
Can someone help me add alt text to my rollover buttons in my interactive PDF either in InDesign CS6 or in Acrobat Pro after I export it?

In InDesign CS6, you just need to add descriptions to buttons. This is done in the buttons and forms panel:
This is the alt text in Acrobat when you roll over the button:
    Hope that helps!

  • I can't create PDFs from CS3 programs in Acrobat Pro XI. Compatibility issue or just Acrobat?

I was just upgraded to Acrobat Pro XI this morning. InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator don't seem to be supported file types for creating a PDF from Acrobat.  While I usually create my PDFs from the authoring program, I occasionally need to make a lot of PDFs of different files at once, and making them from Acrobat makes sense instead of opening each individual file.
Is this just a compatibility issue? We have requested upgrades to CS6, but it will be a while before it gets approved (if it gets approved).  Did someone think it was a brilliant idea not to allow PDFs from the CS products to be created from Acrobat instead of the authoring program?

Can you describe your workflow a little more? Are you saying that you created PDFs of InDesign documents using Acrobat directly -- not using InDesign?
If that was possible in CS3, I must have missed it.
FWIW, I can't select CS6 InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop documents in Acrobat X. You can only select a handful of image formats, HTML or PostScript/EPS.

  • Can I use a buisness version of Adobe Acrobat Pro on a computer that has already an active adobe ID with personal (non buisness versions) programms?

I have an Abode ID with Photoshop for private use.
For work I need an updated version of Adobe acrobat pro.
But how can I get it to work on the same computer?
Can I add a buisness version to the Adobe (private) ID?
Or can I use 2 adobe ID's at the same time?

I don't think there are such things as business and non-business versions of software as far as Adobe is concerned.  How you manage the installations of the software you purchase from them is your call.  If there is some protocol for doing this that is defined by your workplace then you should inquire with whomever manages that protocol.

  • Grab auto-save file type locked by Acrobat Pro?

I have tried using the posted command line in Terminal on both my iBook and G4 (both running 10.3.9) to get Grab to go back to saving screen shots as .jpg's, but it does not work. Ever since installing Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0.0 both machines are saving screen shots only as .pdf's. In addition (and I have looked through all the AAPro preferences to see if there is something to 'turn off' - there isn't), AAPro has inserted toolboxes into all Office programs and I cannot get this to stop either. I've tried moving AAPro out of the applications folder, but this has had no impact. Any suggestions on a workaround?

Aha! Thanks. "PDFMaker Lib" was the file inside the Office folder. If that does not fix it I will search deeper into the folders for the culprit.
Still cannot switch Grab back to saving as .jpg vs. .pdf, using that command line in Terminal. Any suggestions on that issue? Do you suspect Acrobat Pro is involved due to the fact that this problem started about the same time?

Acrobat Pro puts a file in a folder in the Office
directory that causes the Acrobat Pro tool boxes to
    appear. Moving this
file will stop it from coming up. The folder is
called Extensions, or Add-ons, or Plug-Ins or
something like that. (I can't look up the actual

  • Can I make a PDF form that can be filled/saved in Illustrator/InDesign without Acrobat Pro?

Can I make a PDF form that can be filled out and (more importantly saved) in Illustrator or InDesign without having to use Adobe Acrobat Pro?
I only have Adobe Reader XI. Do I need to purchase Adobe Acrobat Pro in order to make a PDF form that can be filled out and saved by others? or is it possible to do this solely through Illustrator, InDesign, and/or Adobe Reader?

InDesign can export to a filable form, assuming you add the fields in InDesign (6/CC) and export as an interactive PDF. You can't create a form with Reader or Illustrator. You also can't Reader-enable with anything other than Acrobat, so Reader users will have to use version 11 in order to save a filled-in form.

  • Can I create a page border using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9?

I'm making a certificate of completion and would like to create a page border.  Is there any way to do this is Adobe Acrobat Pro 9?

If what you want to do is scale a page down to a smaller size, Acrobat doesn't do that, not directly anyway. I think there are plugins for Acrobat that can do this.
if you're desperate and/or don't want to go to that expense, there is a hack available in Acrobat that can get you there. If you've added other interactive elements (links, bookmarks, etc.), you'd have to recreate them. Post again, preferably in a new topic (since it doesn't apply to this one), for more info.

  • Error message intaller file is damaged.  How can I get the free trial of Adobe Acrobat Pro?

I am trying to download the free trial of Acrobat Pro and am getting an error message stating that the installer file is damaged.  I have tried on 2 PCs and get the same error.  Is this able to be corrected so that I can trial the program?

Without knowing anything about your system or your Internet connection we can't really tell you much. This error is on your end - the connection drops out or the files get damaged when saved to disk. Try another browser and check your Internet.

  • Type kit and acrobat pro XI

    Dear all
Im CCT complete member, and im using acrobat pro XI. Is it possible to sync with typekit?
    regards
    Sales Creative

    Hi Sales Creative,
Yes, you can sync Typekit fonts and use them in Acrobat. However, if you share a PDF with someone else and the PDF is editable, they would also need the Typekit font in order to update the PDF.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.
    Cheers,
