Can't receive email with large attachment. why?

A friend sends an email to me with a large attachment. It is rejected and he gets the following response.
{edited for privacy}:
206.46.232.11 failed after I sent the message.
Remote host said: 552 5.3.4 a message size of 20483 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 20480 kilobytes computed for this transaction
The message is small, but the attachment is large. Is something wrong or am I really limited to receiving relatively tiny attachments?
My Yahoo email account receives the same email with no problem at all. Can someone tell me what's up?

First of all, I wouldn't consider 20 MB to be "relatively tiny," but I suppose that's open to interpretation.
Taken from Verizon's Support site:
How large of an attachment can I send or receive through email?
When you are using email, the Verizon web-based email application, you can send attachments that are up to 8 MB (megabytes) in size. Emails sent using 3rd party email programs like Outlook, Lotus Notes, or Eudora, however; can contain attachments up to 20 MB....

  • Is ironport blocking emails with large attachements?

I have recently adjusted my exchange server to accept attachments as large as 25mb but still when I tried to send an email with an attachment of 15mb it still bounce back as 552 552 #5.3.4 message size exceeds limit (state 18).
I was wondering if need to adjust anything on my Ironport to make sure it allows those large emails. If so, I hope somebody could help out on how to do this adjustment.
    thanks,
    brian

    I sort out the issue..
In microsoft exchange everything is configured well, to send and receive upto 25 MB. Usermail box permission also set for sending 25 MB attachment.  Evenif I can receive 15 MB attachment, it resulting in error while sending.
    This was the error:-
    mail.wrd.ae #550 5.3.4 SMTPSEND.OverAdvertisedSize; message size exceeds fixed maximum size ##
This message is generated by HUB-CASH server
No clue that email is screening by ironport.
    Solution:-
Increase the message size limit in ironport
Mail Policies-> Mail Flow Polices -> Relay -> Max Message Size ->25 M
This relay is used for outgoing emails. (Note that the title for that page is confusing: Mail Flow Policy: RELAY - IncomingMail)

  • Can't delete email with large attachments

Received two email with large attachments (photos in format that iphone doesn't recognize). Now can't delete or move to trash these two email. They just return to inbox and mail freezes, goes black, or returns to home screen. Clearing out all other mail in trash doesn't help. Reset doesn't help. I can still receive new email to my inbox and delete those just fine, but these two large email with attachments are stuck in my inbox.

Well, I have the same problem. I tried to delete the specific account and redo it - but the ** email was still there. I've gone to the webmail site for the account, and deleted it there. It's deleted from my laptop, but keeps coming back on my iPhone. So, my iPhone is set to show 25 emails, but I don't understand what you mean by "send yourself 25 messages". Sounds like your solution works, and I'd sure like to try it. Looks like Apple needs to come up with an easier solution too. Thanks.

  • Can't send email with large (over 1MB) attachment

Win 7 64-bit, Thunderbird 31.2.0, eSet antivirus (but disabling it for email doesn't help), godaddy email server (works fine from godaddy web mail), port 80 (been using this port for years; 25 doesn't work)
Sending email with a 974KB attachment works. Email with a 1.4MB (and larger) attachment doesn't work. The error message appears pretty quickly (5 seconds at the most).
The message is "the connection to SMTP server smtpout.secureserver.net timed out".
This problem seem to appear at random, then go away and all is well (for a while).

No. The modem is an Arris obtained from Comcast on 6/9/2014 after the prior one failed.

  • Can't receive email with Mail 4.4 - but iPad does

    Hi guys,
I have a strange problem with Mail 4.4: I have multiple email accounts that I manage through Mail - all work fine except my gmail account, which stopped receiving emails about a week ago. Here are some details:
    1. The account constantly shows the "busy" icon (rotating circle) but Mail Activity window does not show anything.
    2. I can send email from the account - but not receive any emails for this account with Mail.
    3. I access the same account through my iPad and iPhone - both work perfectly fine (i.e. get all emails), it's just Mail that does not receive.
    4. The Connection Doctor shows no errors - all lights are "green"
    5. I can access the corresponding gmail account through Safari without problem - all incoming emails are shown correctly
    6. The account is set up as IMAP
There is one occurrence that is probably related to the problem and could help with a solution:
    1. Mail 4.4 created a new folder called "Recovered Messages" for the gmail account and started saving tons of messages in it - or copies of one message to be precise. This happened at the exact point in time when Mail stopped receiving emails for this account. The email in this folder is one that I attempted to sent, but never did: I composed it and dragged some attachments into the compose window. One of these - accidentally - turned out to be 25MB so I figured that email is too large and closed/deleted the email before sending it.
It now seems that mail is reloading this gigantic 25+MB email over and over again into the "Recovered Messages" folder. I tried to find that email in Drafts, Sent or Outbox folders but it is nowhere to be found - I have no idea from where Mail loads this over and over again.
Can you help? Many thanks in advance!

First time I can answer my own question
I did some more research and found a thread about the issue of large emails getting stuck and reloaded into Recovered Messages folder:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2153401
This one did the trick for me (posted by Miguel Lira):
If you're experiencing the "Recovered Messages" issue it may be related to offline processes that are failing when you open iMail. For me the fix was to open a terminal window and delete all the files in the following folder: ~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/.OfflineCache

  • Can't receive emails with Sympatico

I have 2 email accounts with Bell Sympatico. The owner account is functioning fine; the 2ndary account no longer can receive email, but can still send. I get a message saying
"the POP server POP6.sympatico.ca"rejected the password for 'b1...' please re-enter your password or cancel."
I can still send emails, and interestingly, I can access the mail from this particular account with the webmail at Sympatico/MSN. I have changed NO settings; all I did Monday was to upgrade from the old 'getEmail' to the new one with more storage (MSN/Sympatico). I've tried POP1, POP2, POP3, you get the idea. Nothing. tried their other suggestion of:
    8. Under My incoming mail (POP3) server, type in : pophm.sympatico.ca
    9. Under My outgoing mail (SMTP) server, type in : smtphm.sympatico.ca
(In spite of me making it painfully clear I was on a Mac with Apple Mail, I got suggestions for Outlook, etc...) sigh
I've talked to sympatico on the phone (from India...)tried their suggestion. Nothing. Should I delete the account and re-create it?
I am tearing my hair out. Yes, there is that clumsy webmail workaround, but I want things to work properly, and the Sympatico worker bees are 8000 miles away...Suggestions?

I know that Sympatico have 2 type of e-mails:
the "old ones" that have the same settings since Sympatico started 10 years ago. Here are the information would need to setup your Symaptico e-mail in Mail:
    Username: b1**##
    Password: access password
    Incoming mail (POP3): pop6.sympatico.ca
    Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp1.sympatico.ca
Port server 25 for Outgoing (SMTP)
Port server 110 for Incoming (POP3)
The other Sympatico e-mail is the enhance one with MSN. The settings are differents and the authentification is different. Any new Sympatico accounts since June 2004 are on that new plaform. Here are the information would need to setup Mail:
    Username: [email protected]
    Password: e-mail password
    Incoming mail (POP3): pophm.sympatico.ca
    Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtphm.sympatico.ca
    Verify that your server is set to requires anthentiation with agin your Sympatico e-mail and Sympatico password;
Both servers, Outgoing and Incoming, require a secure connection (SSL)
If you are not sure witch is what try to login online at: http://www.sympaticomail.sympatico.ca it will tell you if can upgrade to new enhance e-mail or if you sign in like a Hotmail account if you are already enhance.
    I hope this help....
    Cheers

  • Can´t send emails with pdf attachments - why?

Since i moved all my accounts to my new airbook (OS X 10.8.2) everything works fine BUT i am not able to send emails with pdf attachments.I have an exchange and a mac.account - but they both won`t work.
The emails stay put in the local ausgang? exit box and won`t move away unless i delete them.
i checked the accounts, the activity - all says it works fine - but it doesn`t!
Maybe in the *deep* of my mac is one thing that says no pdf - but where can i find it?
I appreciate every helpful hint :-)
    greetings

it tries to send the email for about five minutes and than gives the message *server doesn't work* you want to try another? repeat? or later?
when i change the server e.g. from exchange to mac - tries again and without further notice i find the message in the outbox - even when i click that one and *send* again - nothing changes......
I already tried to name the attachments in.pdf - i also change the pdf to jpeg - nothing works - all emails i write after that go immediately to the outbox - so when i want to send messages at all i need to delete the ones with the attachment or send the other ones manually
Please notice in the activity window there is a lot of traffic :-) but it doesn`t help
i even closed all other programmes like excel, safari and stuff - but still
and i still have al lot of free GB on my airbook....
    any idea????

  • Can´t receive eMail with Edge

    Hi,
I have a strange problem: working with EDGE, it is impossible to receive eMails (.mac / yahoo). Sending mails works fine. Also receiving mails with WLan works.
This happend when I upgraded from 2.0 to 2.0.1.
    Any Ideas?
    Thx
    René

Delete that e-mail account and re-add it if you are able to. Then see if the problem has been resolved.
Sometimes, this may be due to the incoming server error and should be fixed by the e-mail service provider.

  • RECEIVING email with LARGE attachments

    All,
I have searched the Verizon site, withou luck, trying to find the maximum incoming email size that Verizon will accept.  I recently had a colleague send me a pdf file attachment that was 15.4 MB and it was bounced by Verizon.  Everyone seems to be locked into the maximum size attachement you can SEND without ever quoting the maximum size you can RECEIVE.  In fact the Verizon support area is totally worthless on this issue.  The FAQ they have that is SPECIFICALLY titled "How large of an attachment can I send or receive through email?", only addresses the maximum size you can SEND.
So, does anyone here have any idea?  It obviously isn't 20MB send and 20MB receive.
    Thanks in Advance,
    RRS

Additional data... I had my colleague send the 15.4 MB pdf file to my gmail account where I forwarded it to my Verizon account.  The results of the forwarding was the following message:
    "Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 552 552 5.3.4 a message size of 20483 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 20480 kilobytes computed for this transaction (state 18)."
I'm not sure how the 15.4 grew into 20.48 but that was the message... just 3 KB over.  So I decided to test the system.  I compressed the PDF file into a zip folder and sent it.  The compressed PDF had compressed down to 14.8 MB.  Once again an error message.  The message follows:
    "Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 552 552 5.3.4 a message size of 20483 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 20480 kilobytes computed for this transaction (state 18).
So much for compressing the file.
Interestingly... a short time later both of the files were delivered delivered to my inbox at Verizon.net.
What in the WORLD is going on here?

  • Can't receive email with big attachments

My nephew has sent me an email, to <<[email protected]>> with a number of very large photo attachments. I'm on vacation and trying to retrieve my email over a slow broadband connection at the local public library. My Mail is stuck trying to download my nephew's email, and won't download anything else. I can see my mail on Mac.com,, but I would rather use my Mail software. I hope that when I return home, my broadband connection will be capacious enough to download this email, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions would be really welcome. Thanks, John Vialet

  • How can I visualise Emails with large attachments?

Background: Working in corporate environment with Exchange with Mailbox limits.
From time to time I'm running out of quota, then I need to move Mails locally (by Smart Mailbox) or delete them.
Insted of doing this reactive I would love to see Emails marked in color (rules?) so I can take care of them while I read them so I don't need to touch them twice.
    Thx
    -Walter
    P.s. Using Mail, not Outlook.

What email service are you using to write your emails? Or are you using a Thunderbird?
If you use a webmail service like hotmail or GMail, you can probably find the information you are looking for in that service's help documents. Look for a link called "help" or "support" on the site where you read your emails.

  • Can't send emails with pictures bigger than 8mb on iphone 4s

Hi , I can not send email with pictures attached (3 or 4 pictures) higher than 8MB. I have an Iphone 4S

Pictures usually size is 2 or 2.2MB each, when i try to send 4 at the same time the phone takes about 10 minutes or more to send it and finally a message in the sent folder shows "Can not send email" and thats it, if I reduce the size of the pictures sending again to ~5MB the email goes ok.

  • Imap don't see mails with large attachment

    Hello,
my email is set to imap so I get the emails on my iphone and on my mac and all should be synchron but there is following problem:
Emails with large attachment are not shown on my imac. I got the Email on my iphone. The mail is on the server when I look over web, but the mail is not on the mailprogram shown on the imac. On the parallel outlook it is shown. So I think there is somewhere a setting where large attachment will not be downloaded but then the header should be shown but it isn't.
What could be the reason for the missing download of large attachment in a email in a imap account on mail in mavericks
Thank you and best regards....and sorry for my broken english

Perhaps to be on the safe side, run a GWCheck against your user account.
Use either the standalone version of GWCheck or run the same check from ConsoleOne with following options (described here for a standalone version):
    1. Database type -> Post Office
    2. Database Path -> use a browse button to navigate in a location where is a wphost.db, the Post Office database
    3. Post Office Name -> fill in a Post Office name.
    4. Object type -> select User/Resource and type either a MailboxID or directly a user database file name.
    5. Action -> leave default Analyze/Fix Databases.
    6. Activate (only) Contents and Fix problems check boxes.
    7. Database tab -> activate only the User option
    8. Misc tab -> here type a string resfldr (or use alias string folderreset)
    9. Run.
Let us know how it goes.

every time i sent an email with 1 attachment, the recipient receives my attachment plus ATT00047.htm or some other file. why is that? how do i stop that?

We have the same problem every time we send out an email with attachments.
BTW, the ATT prefix on every file has nothing to do with you ATT card. It's just the naming convention used by Mail.app for ATTachment.
Now, can someone tell us how to fix this problem?
    Thanks.
