Can't reconnect jpg

I used a jpg pic as a clip in my timeline and whenever I quit the computer and come on again, the jpg clip is missing and I am asked to reconnect. My question is why can't FCP find the clip each time the computer turns on, it's on my Desktop and in iPhoto. When I "reconnect", the clip appears to be there but the red danger color remains in the timeline clip?

the red danger color?
Do you mean the red line above the timeline that indicates you need rendering?
Of course it needs rendering if your sourceclip has been disconnected.
Or do you mean the little thumbnail saying that the clip is missing/offline stays in your timeline. Don't worry about that. that's only a thumbnail and hasn't got anything to do with the place of your jpeg on your system.
By the way: it is always good to have your project organised so save the jpeg in a folder with your project name within in a folder called 'projects artwork' or somthing alike. Not just on your desktop.
As for the original question why fcp is losing the conection to the jpeg. That is strange. Obviously you need to save the project after reconnecting, but I think you figured that out. It's strange behaviour. And the first quetion for strange behaviour is:Did you trash preferences? Did it solve anything?

  • Images are offline and can't reconnect

Two projects in my Library show the files to be "offline" or "missing." When I select them all and "Manage referenced files" the aperture library doesn't show up in the pictures directory, and I can't reconnect because of this. The Aperture Library can be seen in Finder and all of the other projects seem to be fine. I haven't done anything such as a backup or moving files or etc.

Ok. So in general we have the Aperture Library/"Files for each folder"/"*.approject for each project"/"a folder for each import session"/"a folder for each image"/"Files for each image"
1st I tried to copy the *.approject file to a different location and reconnect from the different location. However the *.approject did would not appear in the Manage reference files dialog.
2nd I moved the *.jpg file from the "a folder for each image"/"Files for each image" to a different location. Went into aperture and deleted all the files from the project. Then re-imported the files from the new location. This worked.
So I started the same procedure on the other project that wasn't working. Moved the files...went into aperture....selected all images....just about to hit Command-delete....but I noticed that the little yellow triangle is gone. After moving the *.jpg files, the project mysteriously begins working again.
So just to double check, I tried it on the other "mystery" project. I moved the *.jpg files one by one, and everytime I move the *.jpg file another yellow triangle goes away. So all I'm left with is a *.apfile, *.apmaster, and 2 *.apversion files. But that appears to make it work again.
I also checked some of the working projects...they have a *.jpg file but they still work....Go figure.

  • Can't Reconnect

I brought a couple thousand pics into the Organizer (Get Photos & Videos / From Files & Folders) and tagged them. Now, when I double-click on a thumb in the Organizer, it says the file is missing and goes looking for it... but never finds it.
If I click on "Browse" and find the photo and click "Reconnect" it says "File already exists in the catalog." I notice that it scans my second hard drive (F:), as well as my C: drive. The full message is "File already exists in the catalog. F:\pictures\DSC-0264.jpg was not connected to C:\pictures\DSC_0264.jpg"
If I use "File" / "Reconnect" it seems to scan my whole system, but again fails to reconnect.

I am new (about 2 months) to PSE 8 and have been having a 'Can't Reconnect' problem and could never reconnect anything even when I browsed.  Long story short:  Solved the problem early on by deleting the photos causing the problem. Everything was going well when I decided to clear out all photos from Windows Live Photo Gallery.  Stupid move, I wasn't thinking.  I also know PSE 8 wants all work done in the program.   Had all photos backed up before PSE 8 was installed. I am in the process of loading all photos (about 800)  to the organizer.
Hope someone can learn from my experience.  My question is:  I did back up all my folders on cd's the night before the "BIG GOOF" - what will happen if I try to load them onto my husband's computer after installing PSE 7 or PSE 8?  Was afraid to try it on my computer.  Will there be an "encryption" in the data for each photo because of reconnect, causing the same problem making the cd's useless on either PSE 7 or 8?   I guess I could try a hand full of photos to test the waters.  Can my daughter use the cd's on her photo program (not Photoshop....), without any problem?
I don't like the Reconnect function and have, I think, disabled it. I am sure there are those who find it helpful.  All said, I like the program and feel comfortable with it.  But, I am still learning. On the positive side, I can now look at each photo with a fresh perspective for editing purposes.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can't reconnect edited TIFF files back into library

    There's a big problem I'm having.
After a vault restore, Aperture won't let me reconnect my edited tiff files. I open the "manage referenced files" dialogue and I navigate to the image, but I can't reconnect them. The "reconnect" buttons are greyed out. Here's a couple of pix of what's happening:
    http://amrosario.com/Aperture001.jpg
    http://amrosario.com/Aperture002.jpg
Not to mention that with some images, Aperture is recorded the wrong file size (as seen in my second screenshot).
    I need help desperately!
    Antonio

Thanks for all the words of help.
What is strange about this is this:
I'm working with NEF raw files from a D2X.
Before my hard drive issue, I did some editing of the raw files in Aperture. Then, I had Aperture send the tweaked file to Photoshop for more editing. Aperture sent over a 16bit tiff file. The file was about 70 megs in size (a 12.4 megapixel file @16 bits). Fine.
So, I did some editing and resizing in Photoshop and ended up with a layered TIFF file which was about 300 megs in size. Fine.
I saved it and went back to Aperture. Aperture took a minute or two to update the thumbnail. Fine - it's a big file. So far, everything was working as it should.
Back in Aperture, the edited TIFF was (automatically) stacked with the raw NEF file. Fine.
Then... HARD DRIVE ISSUE (actually, a raid failure, but that's another story).
After many hours or rebuilding and restoring from a saved vault, I get this issue where Aperture cannot find the stacked, edited tiffs. Ok, fine, so....
I go to the "manage referenced files" command and navigate to the tiff files stored on my hard drive and bingo....
    No go...
But the strange thing is (and you can see it in my second screenshot above) that aperture is looking for a 70meg image where the edited image is actually much larger. If you look at this screenshot ( http://amrosario.com/Aperture002.jpg ) you can see that Aperture is looking for a 70.1mb file at 2852x4296 pixels. This is what Aperture originally sent over to Photoshop for me to edit. The actual edited file was saved (and cataloged by Aperture before my HARD DRIVE ISSUE) as a 236.8mb file at 3419x5150 pixels (this was the edited version.
After my hard drive issue and restore from vault, Aperture "forgot" that I had edited the image and enlarged it. It is looking for the 16bit TIFF that it originally sent to Photoshop when I first started to edit the image.
This is the big problem and, I think, bug in Aperture.
I have since reimported the TIFF files and will re-stack them with the original NEFs. But this is a lot of work.
I'm wondering if someone from the Aperture team can help figure this out.
I hope that I've made the problem clearer. This is hard to do with words.
    Thanks for everyone's input.

  • ITunes musical library located on a WD 2TB, ext. drv. Computer destroyed by virus; ED survived. Bought new laptop, connected ED. Not able to see library. ED shows as 'G:' 95% full. How can I reconnect my old library to new laptop?

I had my iTunes musical library on an ext. drv. WD 2TB, ‘MY BOOK ESSENTIAL'. Three weeks ago, my computer was infected by a virus that fried it. It did not affect the external drive. I bought a new computer: a laptop, Dell XPS, Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been able to connect the WD external drive; however, I am not able to see the musical library in my iTunes or Explorer. ‘My Computer’ shows the external drive as ‘G:’ 95% full. It reads, 32.1 GB free of 1.36 TB. When I click on the drive to see its contents, it shows nothing. The library in iTunes also shows nothing. Can anyone help, please? How can I reconnect my old musical library to my new laptop and iTunes? Many thanks.

Hmm, viruses don't generally "fry" drives. They can make bootable operating systems not bootable, hide data, and corrupt executable files. Software can potentially wipe all the data from the drive but it shouldn't be able to physically damage the drive. Bah! What's done is done.
As to unhiding your files assuming they are just hidden....
Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press enter. Type the following at the prompt and then press enter:
    attrib -h -s -r g:\*.* /d /s
This tells windows to clear the hidden, read-only, and system flags from all files on the drive, assuming of course your profile has the power to "see" the files and change them.
If that doesn't work then you may need to take ownership of the drive first. The drive may have security settings that make it "belong" to an account on your old system. Right-click on the drive in Windows Explorer and click Properties. Click the Security tab, the Advanced button, the Owner tab, then the Edit tab. Make yourself the owner, then you can make any other changes to the security settings you want to back on the Permissions tab. (If you can't change the owner log out and log back in as Administrator). For iTunes your account (or everyone) and SYSTEM need full access to all files. Any changes you make should be applied to "This folder, subfolders and files", should be inheritable and you should also replace the permissions on all child objects.

  • I have a MacBookPro, an iPad and an iMac using a wifi connection with an airport extreme base station. Lately I am having trouble with connection time outs. Right now the laptop and ipad are connected okay but the iMac has timed out and I can't reconnect

Please help. Just the last week or so (maybe since Apple released a new software update for my Airport, I keep getting kicked off the net and can't reconnect - it doesn't even show my wifi network in the list of available networks. I am considering resetting the airport as detailed in the manual. If I do this will it act as a new one and can I set it up as from the beginning. My Mac is running OSX 10.6.8 and if I try to use the airport setup assistant it tells me i can't use this version of the app with the version of my OS (because I have upgraded my OS ) I assume
I get a message saying my network requires a WPA password and when I put it in it says connection timeout - meanwhile here I am on my laptop and connecting okay to the net that way - so strange.
If I connect directly to the computer I have a good connection so it is not my ISP
I am 64 and a woman and I thought I was reasonably savvy having had Macs since 1992. This has me stumped and I really would like some advice - otherwise I think I'll just go iout andf buy a new airport.
And just so you know . . . I have a smart TV and it is connecting to the net okay!

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.

Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

  • Error message: "Dreamweaver can't open .jpg files"

    I'm using DW 8, and I have installed the 8.0.2 update. I'm
having trouble inserting certain JPG images into a site. I get an
error message pop-up that states "Dreamweaver can't open .jpg
files". It will allow me to insert some jpg files, but not all of
them. I've tried drag & drop and going through the Insert menu.
The files are not large at all. Doesn't appear to be any problem
with png's or gif's. It's incredibly frustrating. Anyone have any
    suggestions? TIA.

    > why was i taught that all my web images need
    > to be in 72dpi if it doesn't really matter?
most people suggest 72 because it was an old standard with
    the early
macintosh DTP programs. For web use it's easier to
    standardize on it because
when you make an image, you have to put ~some~ number in the
    resolution box
and it might as well be 72 as any other number. It simplifies
    moving image
files around in different applications if they are all the
    same resolution.
For display in a browser, these will all have the same file
    size and display
    size in a web page:
    600x600 pixels at 1dpi
    600x600 pixels at 72dpi
    600x600 pixels at 6000dpi
It's when they are used in other applications or when a
    direct url like
/photos/1.jpg is printed out that they may display in the
    resolution, not
    the pixel dimension.
I came across a page once where the designer always saved his
    images with a
resolution of 6000 dpi or some other odd number because he
    thought that if
people dragged the image off the page to save it- most of
    them wouldn't be
able to resize it. or some other idiot reason maybe.

I disconnected it from my iTunes account but I am still using the iphone and the Apple ID.
If I make a purchase will it work?
Also, how can I reconnect my iphone to my Apple ID?

Do you mean that you removed the phone from the 'manage devices' section of your iTunes account ? If you do then that won't stop you being able to purchase items on your phone - you only need to be logged into an account to be able to purchase with it.
If you do mean the 'manage devices' section then you can associate, or re-associate, a device (or computer) by using iTunes Match, or automatic downloads, or redownloading past purchases on it : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

If you are saying that you both have iCloud accounts and use the same icloud ID, then yes, the contacts will be deleted.  The idea is that all devices using the same icloud ID are kept in sync.  You need to use different IDs.  You can keep the same iTunes ID so you can share the songs and apps.  But use different icloud IDs.

  • I can't open attachments on my iPad 2.  I have downloaded the 8.0.2 software update.  I can't open jpgs, PDFs, docs. or movie files now.

I can't open attachments on my iPad 2t and I can't open jpgs, PDFs, docs. or movie files now.

Obviously, you are talking about the mail app, so force close the mail app and reset your iPad. If that fails, reset all settings.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
When you reset all settings, you will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

Can't view jpg on iPad in outlook email

No because I can't get to the point where it prompts me for open in. As soon as I tab the file in the mail server, the file is replaced by the message:
    Please wait.....
If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document.
    You can upgrade......
When I tab on the arrow in the upper right hand corner of Adobe I can mail a document sans problem, but I can't open one that way.  I moved the files to google+ and then opened it in the adobe app but now the file it opens is the message, not the file I downloaded from inbox.

  • Images Offline, NAS Drive in Finder but can't Reconnect

    Aperture 3.0.2, Mac OS 10.6.3
I have all referenced images on network drive. It's all there in the finder but aperture says it's offline. Furthermore, the reconnect button is always greyed out.
Even more odd is sometimes when I relaunch Aperture, it finds the images but they're ephemeral. (I can right-click to Show in Finder successfully once or twice then it's offline again.)
I have tried rebuilding library to no avail. I've tried copying referenced images to local drive and I still can't reconnect (greyed out) - I'm totally stumped.

I found the best articulation of the solution at MacCreate: http://aperture.maccreate.com/2008/03/01/reconnecting-images-in-aperture-2-when- moved-between-drives/
How the "Reconnect ... " dialog works is not at all obvious. In fact, it is somewhat misleading because so many of us were incensed over the apparent claim that our drives were offline.
I have come to understand that "offline", which appears in the "Status" column between the "Volume" and "Files" column does not pertain to the drive (Volume) but to the images (Files)! After successfully reconnecting Aperture to images in one particular folder of my external drive, the dialog then showed two lines for the same Volume: one showing the number of online files (the reconnected ones) and another line showing the number of offline files (not yet reconnected).
It would be clearer if the columns were labeled "Volume", "File Status", "No. of Files", but such labels would increase the column widths.

  • Can't reconnect Missing Referenced Masters

I have a library which is a mixture of Managed and Referenced Masters.  Library on SSD and Referenced Masters on HDD.
A very small number of Masters have gone AWOL and I can't reconnect them.  Using Spotlight, I can locate the actual Masters with Finder - they are just where I expect them to be, in a subfolder in a Folder called "Aperture Masters" on my HDD.
    Here is an example
The badge on this image looks like this
When I choose Update from Master, I get this message
So then I try to reconnect via "Locate Referenced Files..." and get this message
These images are findable by filtering on "Missing" or "Offline"
All but one have the badge with the arrow and the yellow triangle.
One has a badge like this (a kind of inverted MobileMe sourced badge
Any ideas on how to reconnect?

Interesting.  The User Manual I was reading is a PDF and it defines the badge as this.  Note that the badge is flipped in the two versions and the PDF doesn't mention FaceBook or Flickr.
Seems I should re-download the User Manual
