Can't reinstall OS 10.3 over 10.3.9

I am currently running OS 10.3.9. After attempting to upgrade Safari, I found that both Safari and Mail would no longer open. The icon bobs a few times, but that's all. I searched the forums and found that other people had experienced this problem, but there was no solution provided. I want to reinstall system 10.3 and then reinstall the 10.3.9 update. However, when I try to reinstall I get the message that it can't because there is a newer version of the system on my computer. I tried to do an Archive and Install, but the Options button is greyed out when I attempt this. I am fairly certain that I am using an original retail version of 10.3, it comes on three disks with black labels: Install Disk 1, Install disk 2 and Install Disk 3.

Steve:
Is it possible to get hold of the full retail version of Panther?
Checking your profile it seems that your 466 MHz PowerMac is actually a Digital Audio, rather than QuickSilver. In any case, it will, also, support Tiger (10.4.11).
Your best bet will be Panther on eBay. As with anything on eBay, read the documentation carefully, and ask questions of the Seller to be sure you are getting the Full Retail Version. You can also purchase at other online sources such as FastMac, Hardcore Mac etc.
If you would like to consider Tiger. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but is still available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales 1-800-692-7753. It is also available at FastMac, Hardcore Mac etc. Or, you can get Tiger on eBay. The same caveats apply as previously noted for purchasing from eBay.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

    Yes.

  • How many times can I reinstall ipod to same computer?

I've had continual problems with my computer over the last few years that I've had my ipod and have had to wipe the hard drive several times. When I reinstall my ipod this time, I will be on number 4. I remember reading somewhere that you can only reinstall the same ipod 5 times. Is that correct? Is there any way to get around this or will I be forced to buy a whole new ipod? Why do they do this anyway?

iPods are not installed on to a computer.
    You just use them.
Any songs which you have purchased thru iTunes can be authorized to be played on 5 different computers at any one time. The authorized computers can be changed by deauthorizing one to use a different one.

  • Can I reinstall Windows 7 on Boot Camp with the same product key?

I have run into some issues with my Windows partition, so I want to reinstall Windows 7. I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
What I wish to do is to completely remove the Boot Camp partition, and then create a new one and install Windows 7 over it. However, I have only 1 product license key. When I reinstall Windows 7, it's going to ask for the product key, whih is obviously going to be denied because I have used it.
Is there any way I can acquire another key for this purpose? I am willing to pay a small fee, but I am definitely not willing to pay the full amount for a new Windows 7 copy.
Furthermore, and a little off-topic: Does anyone know if there are any compatability issues with the Windows 8 dev edition and Boot Camp? Can I use the support software for Windows 7? Will it be able to take advantage of the hardware? Will I get sound and internet? Will I be able to scroll with my trackpad?
    Thanks.
[EDIT] I forgot to mention that the main reason I have to create a new partition instead of just Custom Installing over the previous one, is because I require a larger partition size.

    Thanks for your help!
Not to be a pain, but I just want to clarify some things.

The retail version can be reinstalled as much as you want, even to a new computer (just not two at same time)
Yes it will activate just fine on reinstall. Not an issue.
Let's assume I do not have issues about reallocating disk space, and just want to re-do my whole partition. Here's what I would do. Please tell me if it would work fine, or if I would hit a snag somewhere:
Have original retail W7 disk at hand (the one I previously used for my first install).
Remove existing partition using Boot Camp Assistant.
    Re-install using the said disk.
W7 should activate without a problem, even though I've used the license before.
Do I have to do anything on Windows before re-installing it to "deactivate" the copy (or something along those lines) before I can re-activate successfully on my new install?
    And what is System Builder?
    Thanks for all your help!

  • Can you reinstall OS X Mavericks without losing data

I think something happened to my operating system.  I had to reset all permissions using the disk utility and now somethings just don't work right.  For example:  I can open system preferences, and when I click on iCloud, it says "loading" and then hangs up.
Can I reinstall Mavericks by downloading a copy from the app store and if so, will i lose any data?
    Thanks

    Hi RevRemM,
I'm not sure this can help but is it possible that you went over the limit of the iCloud data usage? I'm a bit old school but if you reinstall the OS be sure to backup every thing just incase of a problem. I've done a clean install a month ago and everything went perfect even with all my password and setting, since all my document from none apple apps are well clasified elsewhere no issue here. All was sync on the iCloud, thing is if you're having problem with iCloud my guess is that you verify if your material is on the cloud looking at icloud.com. You'll have to redo all your setting but all your document will be intact.
But yes you can reinstall over your actual system but a clean install is alway a bit cleaner.
    Hope it help...

  • I've tried multiply times to update itunes 10.5 but it keeps saying that it can't find the file and i can't reinstall itunes because it will delete the 100 gigabites of info on it what can i do

i've tried multiply times to update itunes 10.5 but it keeps saying that it can't find the file and i can't reinstall itunes because it will delete the 100 gigabites of info on it what can i do

I've had all kinds of trouble keeping my iTunes software current over the past year, but have found the easiest way to remedy the issue is to simply download the latest version of iTunes as though I am a first-time user and then just install it into the directory my current version of iTunes is using. Doing this has allowed me to update my software without losing any of my media/data. Hope this helps! Best of luck!!!

  • How can I reinstall deleted free Apps which now show as installed but are not actually there?

How can I reinstall free Apps that I have deleted (because ALL stopped working) which now show as installed but are not actually there?
I loaded a bunch of free Apps (maybe too many?) right after I got my 4s yesterday, and at some point I noticed that none of the downloaded Apps would work. The screen would blink when I tapped the icons, but the Apps stopped opening. Resetting the phone didn't help, so I decided to delete all the Apps I had downloaded and start over.
I can get the "Purchased" list to show up by pressing Updates button (is there another way?) but the show as "installed" in greyed-out letter, so I can't figure out how to get them back.

Your iPad screens aren't completely filled up are they? If they are, you will only be able to find them using the search feature on the iPad.

  • HT2523 I have accidently delete TextEdit in my computer, how can I reinstall it?

I have accidently delete TextEdit in my computer and cleared trash, how can I reinstall it?

I'd like to start by clearing up a lot of the nonsense that has been said here…
TextEdit is not available to download on the App Store & Mac OS 10.5 cannot access that anyway!
Tex-edit-plus is not the same app and Softonic have a bad reputation as seventy one mentioned, avoid it at all costs.
Text Wrangler – whilst it is a nice 'plain text editor' for editing 'code' files it will not open & save Word documents correctly, I'm not sure it handles RTF either? It is not the same as TextEdit.
The options I see you having are…
Recover it from a backup (let me guess - you don't have any?).
Extract it from the original OS installation media, Pacifist can help do this, but you will need to dig into packages to find it.
Install OS X onto a spare disk & copy that over.
Reinstall OS X over the top of your current install, causing the original applications to be re-written
It has been so long since I installed 10.5 I cannot remember if there was a 'reinstall OS X' option so it is possible that number 4 is NOT AN OPTION. If you attempt this & don't have a full bootable backup you risk losing everything.
    Option 2 is the safest,
Insert your Install DVD, try opening the following location (the 10.5 install DVD has an 'Essentials.pkg' that appears to contain TextEdit). This is hidden on the disk inside the following folders…
    Mac OS Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg
Open that .pkg in Pacifist. It will create the layout that mirrors an installation, dig into 'Contents of Essentials.pkg' /Applications and you should find TextEdit.app. Try extracting that to a new location.
My terms may be incorrect since I used a newer version of Pacifist to check, but the general principle should be the same.
If you don't have the install DVD/ CD, frankly all hope is lost, go and buy one from Amazon or Ebay.
Now would also be a good time to learn how important backups are. Make one & keep it up to date, Carbon Copy Cloner will do that for you on 10.5.

  • Can't reinstall CS3.  "All Components Fail to Install"

I had been running CS3 on Windows Vista 32. First received, out of the blue, the dreaded error that licensing had stopped working.  Was not able to rectify by the long list of ususual means.  Finally was instructed by adobe tech support to uninstall CS3 and reinstall.  Uninstall apparently successful (confirmed with Microsoft Fixit Tool that did find and fix some registry errors).  Can't reinstall CS3 either from DVD or from desktop.  Receive status report after install script finishes:  "All Components Failed to Install."  I have spent over 23 hours on this problem to no avail.  PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for the reply, but I did all that already.  After much research and seeing what's worked for others, below is a rundown of what I've already tried...  (much of my process below came from http://na-na-sa-ra.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-to-re-install-adobe-cs3-after.html which I too had found and had hoped would help.)
After attempting to uninstall CS3 from the control panel, I ran the Adobe CS3-5 cleaner, numerous times selecting various listed options during the script run.  After running each time, I ran the MS Fixit tool (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall) that reportedly will "fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled".   After each run of the MS Fixit tool, I attempted to reinstall CS3 - the install script would run for a good long while, showing (slow) progression of a status bar, but in the end give a status report saying that all components failed to install.  Even though complete installation failed, Adobe CS3 would be on the list of programs in the control panel, so I would repeat an "uninstall" from the the control panel, and rerun the MS Fixit tool.  Sometimes the MS Fixit tool would find/correct problems, othertimes it would report that no problems were found.  I repeated this procedure for all the options given in the CS Cleaner Tool script without success.  Thinking it might be a problem with attempting to install from the DVD (which has never been a problem before), it was suggested to try installation from the desktop (copied all DVD files to a desktop folder).  Repeated the entire above process using the "desktop files" instead of the DVD.  No luck.  (...and phoning Adobe tech support was not productive - they sent me here to the forums.)
Really appreciate you trying to help.  Have any other suggestions?

  • Can't reinstall CC program after uninstall (in this case, Bridge)

I uninstalled Bridge CC on the advice of an Adobe chat tech support person. (I have a screen shot of the chat.)
Now I can't reinstall Bridge CC. The Adobe Application Manager says it's installed and does not offer an option to reinstall. Grrr.
Other than wishing for a boxed set where I have complete control, what can I do?
    ~ Jane

    Hi Jeff,
After 3-4 days, the other apps had an update. After the update, suddenly I could install Bridge CC. Go figure. But it's working now.
Uninstall and reinstall are not obvious or easy with Creative Cloud, and I was wishing for the box version where I had control over things like this unstead of spending hours doing Google searches and chatting with tech support. I hadn't activated the software or even launched it before uninstalling.
As I said, it's working now. But this needs to be an easier process!

  • How can I reinstall just iCal?

I need to delete & reinstall iCal. I've lost all of my calander information as far as I can see & just need to start over. How can I do this? I had Tiger (10.4) installed, then installed the Leopard upgrade. Then I needed to reinstall the Tiger OS for work. So now I have Mac OS X 10.4.11 with 2 different system backups & all I want is for my iCal to work! If anyone can help me in getting my information from those backups that would be great, too. I've managed to get most of the music, keychains, but not documents.

An updater may not be replacing an entire application, so if you need to replace an application then you need to first get it from the installer DVD from which it came originally. Then use the updater to assure that it is the current version. You may not need to use the combo updater if the application hasn't changed any, but you can't know that positively, so use the updater. It cannot harm anything.

  • Can I reinstall Final Cut X the correct way?

I downloaded Final Cut X and Motion 5 thinking they would sit on my Mac Pro Desktop until I installed them.  I would then follow the Apple partiitioning instructions.  Unfortunately, it appears that they both installed as they downloaded.  I have not opened either yet.
    How can I start over?

Not sure if you are aware that Apple recommends a separate start-up disk installation when one has the earlier version of Final Cut Studio.  Or, they recommend partitioning a single start-up drive.  I did neither thinking that after I downloaded the software I would be able to then install it after I prepared the disk.  Hence, the dowload apparently has already installed causing me to hesitate to open the new version since Apple suggests keeping the old and new version very separate, which I have not done.
How might I fix this problem?  This is why I asked "Can I reinstall Final Cut X the correct way?"

  • Can i reinstall 4.1 and remove 4.2

    i use imac i7, 8GB, Lion.
i installed LR4.2 (after LR4.1). I am disatisfied with 4.2 for number of reasons.
can i reinstall 4.1 and continue to use my prwesent catalog?

    geoff,
thanks for your interest. i have the latest mac drivers, i suppose.
i had problems with occasional "flashing" of image, following adjustment slider action, on 4.1, but this was limited to TIF.
With 4.2, I had a delay of 2-4 seconds during which I had a black image window, the rest of the interface remained as it should be. This "flashing" only happened in develop mode and ocurred after each slider movement, regardless of amount of adjustment, and it affected jpg, psd, and tif. very annoying.
I installed 4.2 update over 4.1 without difficulty.
my iMac has an i7 CPU, 8GB ram and I use Lion 10.7.5.
Hope this will trigger a memory or something that might help because I do have trouble with the clarity slider in 4.1 and this apperas to have been fixed in 4.2.
i will monitor to see if you've any suggestions.
    thanks again,
    vince

  • How can I reinstall a corrupted Safari application?

Since the initial installation of OS X 10. Mountain Lion, I receive a popup that "Safari 6.0 has not been tested with the plugin LastPass 1.74.0 (v174.0).  As a precaution, it has not been loaded.  Please contqact the plugin developer for information."
I have attempted to contact LastPass MANY times without any response.  LastPass was taken off the computer over a year ago without any problems until the installation of OS X 10 LION.
Can you help with this continous irritation when opening Safari?
