Can't retrieve username using expression builder on a run time data control

Here's the scenario:
1. I added a Data Control resource in WebCenter Spaces, which has one paramater to get: username.
2. I added the Data Control in Oracle Composer, and selected the return method to show as a read only form.
3. In adding the Return method, under DC Parameters I have to get the username and place it on my parameter, ie: arg0 = username. arg0 is my data control parameter.
I tried using every possible code there is in the Expression Editor to retrieve the username, but I keep getting null when I test it. I've tried *#{securityContext.userName}*, *#{webCenterProfile[securityContext.userName].userName}*. I also tried creating a page parameter, and use it like this: *#{bindings.myUsername}*, but still won't work. Its always null.
How do I retrieve the username and bind it to the parameter of my data control using expression editor? Please help. Thanks.

Unless you had enabled Find My iPhone on it before it was lost then there isn't any way to locate it (it can only be turned on directly on the phone, it can't be done remotely). If you did enable it then you could try locating it either via http://icloud.com on a computer or Find My iPhone on another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPhone disabled on it.
If you think that it was stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.

For example there are four files named "test1.h & test1.c" and another set "test2.h & test2.c" (I attached them as attachment to this post).
test1.h contains code:
int variable; //variable declared as integer
test1.c contains code:
variable = 1; //variable assigned a value
test1.h contains code:
char *variable; //variable declared as string
test1.c contains code:
variable = "EXAMPLE"; //variable assigned a string
So here, in this case can I dynamically load / unload the first & second group of files so that the same variable name "variable" can be used both as integer and string? And if yes, how is that to be done?

What do you mean by "dynamically"?
If you want to have a variable that either is an int or a char in the same program run, I'm afraid your only option is to define it as a variant and assign from time to time the proper data type in the variant according to some condition. Next, every time you access the variable you must firstly check which data type is stored in it, next access it in the proper way.
If on the other hand your option or to have a run in which the variable is an int, next you stop the program and in a following run it is a char, you may have it by using some appropriade preprocessor clause:
#ifdef CHAR_TYPE
#include "test1.h"; // variable defined as a char
#else
#include "test2.h"; // variable defined as int
#endif
Next, every time you want to access the variable you must proceed in the same vay:
#ifdef CHAR_TYPE
variable = "string";
#else
variable = 1;
#endif
Does it worth the effort?
Additionally, keep in mind that this "dynamical" approach can work only in the IDE, where you can properly #define your CHAR_TYPE or not depending on your wishes: when you compile the program, it will have only one #include depending on the definition of the macro.

Hi,
Whenever you click on the expression builder the syntax will be shown to you as soon as you click on the functions or any object you select.
In the logical table source, content tab, where clause, whatever condition you specify it gets reflected in the query when ever you pull the columns from the table.
For example-
If you are specifing the condition as
Region_name='Asia'
Then when ever you pull the columns from the table then the data will get restricted with 'Asia' data only.
You can als call functions, session variables.

Checking for empty tags using expression builder for XPATH

I am creating several filters in a mediator for several parallel paths. I am trying to route the mediator to the correct DB adapter based on what tags are empty in the incoming XML. The XML has 1 required tag and 3 optional. So for the expression, I am using the expression builder to load the tag name then putting either [text()] or [not(text())] immediately after each tag with an "and" in between for the 3 optional elements. The problem I am having is they always return false. For example, if I enter a value for an optional tag and put [text()] after it, it evaluates to false. What is the correct way to check if an element has text or not?

I am just avoiding Yosemite like the plague.. (plague on you Yosemite!!) .. as its networking is so bad it causes chaos on my network.. to all other devices.. even though only one device actually runs Yoyos!!
I am not sure how hard it is for you to go back to Mountain Lion.. or if you have a computer running ML on the network.. if so definitely use it.
What OS was last used by the MBP when you stopped using it or is it fully up to date. Is the computer in the network now? If so it is much easier to copy and paste the files from a live computer.
Did you encrypt the backup.. that would really mess things up or have an encrypted disk??
Have you used the normal TM tool in Yosemite to try and recover your files?? Or perhaps migrated the files.. this can work fine.. migration often being a better way of doing things.. although there are a few rules about using different user names.. etc.
There is another proviso here I must add.. Yosemite cannot see the backup quickly.. what I mean is that your backup is >500GB. Even by ethernet Yosemite version Time Machine can take more than 24hours just to index that.. maybe longer and by wireless a lot longer.. 3-5 times.. I do not know why spotlight is so slow in Yosemite.. but trust me.. it is pathetic. The yoyo got its string in a knot and seems to need to untangle it for every single file on the backup.
Be very patient if you open TM backup in Yosemite.. and definitely do this by ethernet not wireless.. otherwise you might die of old age beforehand.

During runtime, by default, LabVIEW has undo/redo data changes under the edit menu. This will undo/redo changes made to controls during runtime. If you want a more extensive undo/redo (custom for your application), you are going to have to do quite a few things
1) Create a custom runtime menu (Edit>>RunTime Menu) and place your own undo/redo controls on it
2) Keep an action history in your program
3) Catch the Shortcut menu event for your custom undo/redo controls
4) Reverse the last action in your histroy when you catch the event
This method would allow you undo entire operations (like resize, move, or whatever kind of functionality you are building into your application) unstead of just undoing data changes.

Building an Application in Windows to be used in Linux (with the Run-Time Engine)

Hi All,
I have an LabVIEW project I have developed in a Windows environment. I can create an Application (.exe) using the Build Specification -> Application Builder which works fine on the development platform.
I now want to distribute the application to a Linux Environment. The OS is openSUSE v10.3 (with GNOME). I have downloaded the two rpm files needed for the run-time engine and installed them, as per here:http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/97E14BA3E0C14A89862572C300567733?opendocument&node=13207...
Now, the question is; how do I create an Application in Windows which can be used on the Linux Box? According to the Application Builder instructions, it's simply a case of removing the .exe extension in the Target File Name options, however, this gives an error "Invalid Extension."
If I do create an exe and manually remove the extention is doesn't work on the Linux enviroment (typing ./application).
Has anyone had experiance of this?

The cross-platform nature of LabVIEW refers more to the code than to the executable.
LV (given the appropriate development version) can compile the same source code into a Windows (using LV for Windows), Linux (using LV for Linux) or Mac (using LV for Mac) program.
This means you will still have three versions of your program, one for each platform.
If you want to distribute VIs (without block diagrams), you will also need different versions of these as without the block diagram, they cannot be re-compiled for a new platform.

How can I load a picture and use it in ActiveX in run time ??

I am using an ActiveX object which needs a property "picture" as input.
I can set the picture property in its property page in design time, but I don't know how to give it a "picture" in run time.
In VB, I can do:
dim pic As Picture
pic = loadpicture("c:\test.bmp")
control_1.picture = pic
(("control_1" is the ActiveX object, and picture is the property))
How can I do the same with labview?

far as I understand from the MSDN site, it seems that the Picture
datatype is a specific VB only datatype. Most probably it is a handle
(uInt32) value as far as other programs including LabVIEW are
concerned, but there is no way that LabVIEW could deal with this
datatype directly.
If you can convert this datatype with some VB fucntions into a HBITMAP
or HDIB then you could call some Win32 API functions to extract the
relevant bitmap data from this common Win32 datatype and get somewhere
from there. OR it maybe that VB itself has other functions to extract
the bitmap data, color palette and other attributes of the Picture
datatype. Don't expect LabVIEW to be able to deal with the Picture
datatype directly though, this is really a proprietary VB thing.

Using Express Write LabVIEW File to store data in subprogram doesn't overwrite.

The main program is an Event Structure that controls four other subprograms. In the subprograms the data is stored in the express IV Write LabVIEW Measurement File set up to overwrite the collected data. When the subprogram is stopped with the main still open, then restarted, the file is appended not overwritten. It appends where the last time the previous file was stopped.

There is an input to the Wrive LabVIEW Measurement File which is entitled 'reset.' Make sure that is set to true so that the file writing process starts over each time data enters the Express VI.

Folder of application builder(*.exe) with run-time DLL

My application consists of main.vi, subvi folder, and example folder.
In addition, I have to add the run-time libraries for add-on tool kit (advanced signal processing, lvwa.dll) which should be located in the root folder.
(For exe application, can I set the location of DLLs to not the root folder but "DLL folder"?)
In my several trials, I can't maintain the hierachy of "example folder".
Instead of my intension, the NI application builder copied the files in the folder to the support directory.
Can I locate the "example folder" to the root folder by using NI application builder?
In summary, I want to get the folder structure by application builder.
main.exe, DLL folder, Example Folder.

What version of LabVIEW are you using?
I am not too clear as to what you are trying to do. You can create folders and add anything from your project when creating an installer under the Source Files section in its properties.
It might be easier if you'd attach a screen shot of what you are doing or trying to do.

Getting LabVIEW load error code 59 using LabVIEW 2010 with a Run Time Engine.

I use a vi compiled with a run time engine to run separate vi’s in my application directory. Once a file association is made with this exe file any Vi in my application directory is available to be loaded as needed. This is a process that has been very successful for me over the years and would prefer to continue using this process. Most of my applications are running in LabVIEW 8.6 and have moved them to 2009. First indications are in 2009 this process is still working. However, I plan to go on to 2010 before upgrading my test stations.
In 2010 I get the error 59: “The source file’s compiled code has been separated, and this version of LabVIEW does not have access to separated compiled code.”
The same dialog box also presents, (Hex 0x626) “Cannot open a VI with separated compiled code in a Run Time Engine that has no access to the VIObjCache.”
What can I do in the build that will get around this error?

Thank you for the solution. I am sure this works until the next vi in the vi library gets this option selected.
The bigger issue is I was doing something that National Instruments did not support. When I started in the days of LV 4.0 it was recommended to me that I use this method as virtually all my applications were for in house projects. This is still my preference because it gives the most versatility and allows modifications of single files rather than compiling the entire application.
The final solution I ended up with for those who may be having the same issues. My recommendation for what it is worth, is to compile the application as an executable. This is from what I can tell the only acceptable and supported method. Using this method the problem is solved.
I have accepted this as the solution. I still don't like it. I could list the reasons why but it is a mute point.

It's been a while since I've tried to build an installer but it used to work fine and building executables is still working fine.
Now when I try to build the installer I get "The build was unsuccessful."

The really strange thing about this is that I'm using LabVIEW 2011SP1, I don't even have LabVIEW 2013 installed, not even the runtime.
Where is the problem? Why is it even complaining about LabVIEW 2013? Has anyone seen this before?

I do have the LabVIEW 2013 discs but didn't install it.
I checked in Control Panel > Programs and Features > National Instruments Software and the LabVIEW 2013 Run-Time is not listed there.
I also checked in MAX > Software and I must have missed it the first time I looked. LabVIEW Run-Time 2013 is listed there after all.
Now I remember installing VISA 5.4 to get rid of a nasty bug. It must have installed the 2013 Run-Time when I did that.
So now I need to distribute 2 runtimes with my application?!?!

NI 5660 Driver DLL Errors when using Teststand 2010 and LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2010

This problem seems similar to the post "Resource not found error in executable on development machine." but I didn't want to repost under that thread because I only happened upon it by chance and none of my searches brought me there... so I made a more descriptive Subject.
I am working on a system that uses a PXI Chassis with a NI 5600 Downconverter and a NI 5620 high speed digitizer, among other PXI Cards.
I inherited working code written in LabVIEW 2010, running with the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2010. The code was using a custom executive and my task was to rewrite the test using TestStand 2010. I reused the majority of the old code. The old code used NI-5660 to control the 5600 and 5620. When I run my sequence using the LV Development System and TestStand, it runs without any issues. When I change the adapter over to LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2010, all of my NI5660 VIs become broken due to DLL issues. It warns that the nipxi5600u.dll was not initialized correctly. Many of the errors are associated with the NI Tuner and NI Scope. After this LabVIEW will crash randomly, and the seqeunce will not work in TestStand even when back with the LV Development Adapter. The only way to recover after this is to restart the computer - TestStand automatically reverts back to the development system, the VIs are no longer broken and the sequence works again.
I have all of my VIs associated with a project. After reading a little bit about DLLs and TestStand, I found all of the DLLs in the dependencies section of my project and added them to my TestStand workspace. I also used Dependency Walker to track down the problems with the nipxi5600u.dll, the 2 DLL files that it said were not found already existed in the same folder as the original DLL (C:\Windows\System32). I have also performed a Mass Compile to make sure everything was running in LV 2010. If I skip the steps involving the 5660, my entire sequence runs fine.
The previous code was running with the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine without any issues. Is there just a step I am missing? Has anyone seen anything like this before? I can send screenshots of errors to provide more detail if necessary.

I have tried some more things and still can't get it to work. I have added the VIs mentioned in the Notes On Creating Modulation Executables KB both to the TestStand workspace and the LabVIEW project holding all of my VIs. This did not change the results.
When I try to run my sequence, The first error I get is shown in Error 1445.bmp. This happens when I try to use the NI 5660 initialize.vi. If I click ignore, the next error I see is shown in Error -20551.bmp. When I try to open the VI to look at it, I get the 2 DLL errors shown in Error loading nipxi5600u.bmp and Error loading nidaq32.bmp. When I close TestStand, I get the error LabVIEW Fatal Error.bmp.
