Can't see external disks on Finder

I can't see my external Storage (whether it be TimeMachine hard drive, USB sticks) in Finder (side bar). I see them in Disk Utility. I see them if I open "/Volumes/" but that's not really convenient. External Disks are enabled in sidebar.
Please see attached pictures for details
My system is also very slow. Would you recommend a clean install ?
And Yes

Move the mouse to the right of "Appareil" in the Finder sidebar. The option "show" should appear. Click on it.. et voilà! The disks are back!!!
Also a clean install did help me improving some perfomances. You may want to try Onyx first, and clean all caches. Don't forget to do a "repair permission" with Disk Utility or Onyx (it should be the same) before nything else.

  • Can't see external drive in Finder

Hi all - I have been using 2 external drives with my Mac with no issues, but suddenly I can't find them in Finder when I plug into my Mac. I have tried changing the USB cable and different ports and I have clicked the 'external drive' box in Finder preferences. I can see the discs in Disk Utility however. Does anyone have any idea how I could fix this ?
    Thanks in advance !

Might be corrupted desktop and Finder preferences ..
    Disconnect the external drive.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy and paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.desktop.plist file to the Trash.
    Same for  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
Move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, connect the drive. Go to Finder > Preferences > General
Make sure:  External disks   is selected.

  • Can't see USB disk attached to other mac

I have an Airport Express, on the network is a Mac Mini which has an USB disk attached to it (to the Mac Mini).
However, I can't see the disk from any other mac that uses the Airport (this used to work)
I've looked for "disk sharing" in Preferences and in the Airport Setup Utility, but couldn't find anything.
I've also made the Sharing & Permissions of the USB disk for "Me" and "Everyone" as " Read & Write"
Any idea how I can resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Awfers

Ok, thanks for clarifying. You don't need to change any settings within the AirPort Utility, but let's double-check your Mac Mini's settings to make sure that it is both sharing the disk properly and that it's OS X firewall is not blocking the requests.
For File Sharing: System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing
o Make sure that the folders on your external hard drive, that you want shared, are selected in the Shared Folders window.
o Make sure that you have, at least, Everyone = Read Only set in the Users window.
o Select Options..., and then, verify that you have "Share files and folders using AFP" is enabled for Mac clients, and "Share files and folders using SMB" is enabled for Windows clients.
For the OS X Firewall: System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o If "Allow all incoming connections" is enabled, verify that: "File Sharing (AFP, SMB)" is now displayed in the list.

  • Fire Wire: MBP OS X.4.11 Can't see external devices. PLEASE HELP!

Fire Wire: MBP OS X.4.11 Can't see external devices. PLEASE HELP!
My MBP will not "see" my new MB or my back-up drive—both connected via a firewire 400 (6 pin) cable. Both running Tiger X.4.11
I have used this cable to connect my MBP and a TiBook in the past as well as to back-up onto the LaCie e-drive.
I have run "disk repair" and "permissions" on both machines.
BTW—"permissions" are regularly out of wack on the MBP. But, the disk is OK according to Disk Utilities.
I also cannot put the machine to sleep after logging out. Has a hard time shutting down as well. Sometimes I need to force a re-boot.
Can't run Disk Doctor because I don't have a bootable disk yet. It's coming via snail mail.
The new MB "sees" the e-drive connected with the same cable.
I can't transfer my files to the new MB nor can I back up.
Is it time for a "clean install"? Makes me nervous that I cannot backup before trying anything drastic.
    Can someone please help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tek

Put the more recalcitrant computer into Target Drive mode by starting it with the T key down until you see the yellow on blue screen. Then connect it to the other machine by firewire cable while both are already awake.
I hope that you did not do any upgrades while you had external drives connected... that is an automatic problem. Always disconnect from externals and accessories before doing any upgrades. Always back up before doing any upgrades.
Firewire networking is not the same as using a computer in Target Disc mode. In Target disc mode, you are using the internal drive of the Td computer as an external. That should allow you to run disk utility. Do use the proper disc utility version for the OSX version that is on problem drive. ie don't use the Leopard disc utility for the Tiger disc or vice versa.

  • I can't see .NEF files in finder from mi NIkon D7100. Helllp !!!!!

I can't see .NEF files in finder from mi NIkon D7100. Helllp !!!!!
I can open NEF files in Camera Raw but Im not seeing tumbs in finder !
Also I cant see them in preview too.

Well, I don't know what the problem actually is in the first place, it should work as is, I think something is messed up with the present driver and replacing it would perhaps get around that problem.
It seems like I'd be adding one more layer of complexity to the Vista machine...
Not sure how the Vista machine is involved in this, since these are drivers for the Mac.
Though to involve the Vista Machine, One option not mentioned yet is MacDrive for you PCs... allows them to Read/Write HFS+...

    Hi, Abril_Perez17.
This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default.  Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.  See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled.  This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple logo.

  • Can't see external exFAT hard drive in finder - but can see it under disk utility

    I have tried it all.
Running Mac Air OS X Lion 10.7.3 - connected to wifi network via 3TB Time Capsule. Just bought an external HDD for moving around. Formatted as exFAT and loaded files from a friends Windows 7 PC. Tried to plug into TC but couldn't see it neither in Finder nor Time Machine. Then plugged it directly into Mac Air, still not visible under Finder. Tried the following without much success either:
    - Used the Verify & Repair functions in Disc Utility: No errors found
    - Tried to Mount in Disc Utility: Refused (advised to run First Aid) - Ran first aid twice and still can't mount
    - Used various apple scripts to unhide it: still not visible
    - Went to Finder - Go - Computer: Still not visible
I'm now creating an image of the disc with the hope that I can mount the disc and acccess the files in it. Should this not work (and I have a strange feeling that it wont), what can I do (without the need to format the drive?)
    Thanks

    been there
    try this:
use [_*Path Finder*_|http://www.cocoatech.com> (30 days trial period) to mount the drive and +get info+.
find the entry for *alias bit*. if the box is checked, uncheck it
    that should do it.

  • Can't See External Hard Drive

I have just bought a Pleiades USB/LAN External Storage Enclosure and put a G2-lan Seagate 200gb hard drive in it. I’ve connected it through via USB and network cable (not at the same time) and I’m pulling my hair out cos I have no freakin idea how it works.
The network cable seamed to complicated by my pathetic excuse for a brain so I’m trying to connect it via USB and even that simple task seams too much for me. My manual says “Turn your computer on and start Mac OS X, connect the Pleiades and turn it on, no river installation is required, the external drive will mount and show up on your desktop”. Pitty it didn’t. I noted the footnote “For factory new drivers and formatting, see “Partitioning and Formatting” So I go there: “Select “Disk Utility” in the utilities folder. Chose your external drive and create a FAT32 partition”. Would be good, if my external drive showed up in the list. Then there is a side note that says “If you can not see the drive, make sure the settings of your hard drive are correct, there are no extension conflicts and the power is turned on”. The power is turned on, but I have no idea how to see the settings on the hard drive let alone know what they should be.
And that’s my conundrum. Help please.

Hello! A couple of things. First pull the drive and check the jumpers to see if it's jumpered as "master". The cable select position won't work on an ext case. Was the drive new or pulled from another computer? It could be set to the "slave" jumper and again would need to be changed to "master". The jumper settings are usually noted on the drive but you might have to go the the Manf. site to find them. Once your sure the drive is set to master plug the usb connector in and turn it on and see if it either pops up on the desktop or gives you the "do you want to initialize" window. Post back with your results. Tom

  • Computers can't see the disk connected to my Aiport Extreme

    Hi everyone,
I have an Airport Extreme with version 7.3.2 and I just attached a Western Digital external hard drive to the usb port in the back of the router; however, none of my computers can see the disk in the network screen nor the airport router itself. Does anyone know how I can fix this so that I can share the disk with all of my computers?
This is how my network is set up:
I have six computers connected to a Linksys WRT310N wireless router (some with ethernet cables, others wireless). Then, I have the Airport Extreme, in bridge mode, connected to the Linksys router by an ethernet cable. And the external disk is attached to the Airport Extreme.
It sounds complicated, but I talked to an Apple "Genius" a while back and he told me that only Mac computers are able to see the disk through the Time Machine program. That hardly seems right or fair to me.
    Thanks for your help!

On July 15, 2008 someone posted this: "On my air port extreme I have a 160 Gb hard drive connected to the usb. And suddenly it cant find it on my desktop. But when I go to my lap top it finds it just like that. Im runnin the airport 10/100 ethernet to my desktop and 802.11 n/g on my lap top. I tried resetting..."
This is identical to my problem, the hard disk that is connected to the Airport Extreme shows up on the old iBook but not on the MacBook Pro. Both are running OS 10.4.11. It worked fine when it was connected directly to the MacBook Pro and contains the same files it held then.
    Can anyone answer this problem?

  • Can't see erased drive in Finder

I erased my seagate drive using disk utility and now I can't see it in finder. I was using the seagate as the backup drive in Time Machine, but I wanted to start over so I could add another external to drive to the backup process. What do I need to do to be able to see it again? ThanksErased

Disk images will not solve your problem, they are not related at all.
100MB seems TINY for any modern disk! That isn't right.
Tim is correct that the disk may need repairing. Shutdown the Mac. Poweroff the disk and check your connections are all good.
Power up and go back to Disk Utility. Do you see the disk? It's possible you erased the partition, in which case you will not see a disk on the Desktop but you should see the external disk in the sidebar of Disk Utility.
Is this a USB or Firewire disk? These should show an orange icon in Disk Utility. If it isn't there poweroff the disk & try other USB ports & leads if possible.
If you are unsure take a screenshot of Disk Utility & post it here. It's cmd+shift+4 then drag the crosshairs over the window to select the area. It appears on your Desktop, the camera icon will allow you to add images here (on a desktop browser).

  • Can't see LaCie disk on any other computer except one

Okay, here's one I can't figure out. Maybe someone else can.
I just purchased an Airport Extreme and everything works as it should. However, when I plugged my LaCie Drive in the USB slot, in the Extreme, I find it shows up on my MacBook Pro desktop, but I can't see it on my daughter's iBook G4, my G4 desktop, or my wife's PowerBook G4. If I scan the Extreme config from any of the computers, it shows me the LaCie disk connected, but if I use the Airport Disk Utility, I only see it on my MacBook Pro. The utility shows nothing on the other computers.
Why is it showing up on one computer and not the others? Is it because my MacBook is Intel and the others are not, or am I just not configuring things correctly on the other computers?
Thanks, in advance, for any help on this
