Can the command ADD partition (in table )invalid procedures, packages. ??

Hi Folks.
I know that drop a partition make invalid public synonyms, packages, functions.
But.
Add partition, can make invalid some object?
I tested and didnt find objects invalid.

Please confirm that your tests included these steps
1. created a partitioned table
2. create at least one of every possible type of object that might depend on that table
3. performed an ADD PARTITION that succeeded
4. confirmed that NONE of the objects from step #2 were invalidated
5. performed an ADD PARTITION that failed in various ways (local index partition can't be created, tablespace can't be extended, non-existent tablespace, etc)
6. confirmed that NONE of the objects from step #2 were invalidated.
See ALTER TABLE in the SQL Language Reference

Note:
If you alter a table that is a master table for one or more materialized views, then Oracle Database marks the materialized views INVALID. Invalid materialized views cannot be used by query rewrite and cannot be refreshed. For information on revalidating a materialized view, see ALTER MATERIALIZED VIEW.

Did you test that the above MV is not invalidated?
Did you test that adding a partition did not invalidate any local or global indexes?

  • Limit on the number of partitions a table can have

    Hi,
It's been quite some time I'm thinking of a simple and the best solution to a performance issue in my application. Benefiting out of partitioning the table seems a simplest approach; it involves very minimal changes to my application code and in addition, it keeps the overall application logic 100% intact. However, at times, the number of partitions required can grow to as large as 500 thousand. I know of another application implementing as many as 50 thousand partitions for one of its tables. I'm wondering if Oracle recommends or poses any limit to a number of partitions the table can have. How does that limit, if it exists, vary if each of my table partition holds only a small amount of data; say, not more than 2 thousand records each of 1 KB size. What are the important considerations that one needs to keep in mind while creating the huge number of partitions for a table?
Any inputs on this would be a great help.
    Thanks,

I doubt if you are using partitioning for the right causes. Please explain how is your data structured and why you need to create so many partitions..?
when creating partition, you need to consider..
    a) why you need to partition?
    b) how is your data structured
    c) how your data is indexed.
    d) What kind of queries would you firing on this table to get the data. Will they use the partition key ?
    Thanks,
    Rajesh.

  • Can the Terminal add a user(with all options) on a single line?

    Howdy All,
Can the Mac Terminal add a user, with all options desired, on a single line?    If so, can I get an example of this single terminal line to work from?
    Thanks

Thanks Drew!   You have some great thoughts there. Perhaps I should provide a clearer environment of each high school(4). All classrooms have a lock down Windows environment. (There are no Macs any where in any classrooms.) The mini-tower will be the only Mac on each high school campus. we're in Dell country. The desktops are locked in such a way that only the ghosted/installed software on each hard drive works and no other software can be installed. USB sticks can't run any exe, jar, or other executable file. Even the other drives on the network can't run them. This has been setup to prevent students from bringing games into the environment and running them. Only the single classroom in each high school, where Web Tech is taught, has a ftp tool installed. Students cannot bring and use their own laptops either. So there really isn't any stray ftp activity happening. You cannot "ftp" out of the network! And there is only the one Mac available per campus.  All this makes it certainly easier to maintain for sure. I am the only user in the school district they let run a personal laptop...mine has Ubuntu (tweaked).  My knowledge of Linux has led them to assign this project to me. They are MS based entirely and so is their knowledge base.
I've got to teach the other 4 teachers how to manage the mini-tower.  Basically it is this:
         Start and stop Apache2,
         Start and stop vsftp,
Add ftp users(students will only have directory:           /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default/studentlastname.firstname  )  Students will not log on to the min-   tower directly as any normal user would, but only through ftp. (I.E. no /home directory) ,
         Remove/delete students as needed
(I'll pre-install cgi-bin scripts on these to keep it simpler on the other teachers and myself.)
With this in mind, you can see why a basic script or single command line to install these students would be great! I want to keep it simple to avoid mistakes the teachers might make adding users. Once I understand adding a user (in a terminal) better on a Mac, I may write a script to make it happen for them.
I'd also like to understand removing/deleting a student/user better to insure everything is gone when executed.
I hope this clear things up. Any help is much appreciated.    THANKS!!!

  • Can the boot camp partition be resized once windows is installed and running as virtual machine using vm fusion ware?

I have macbook air partitioned 505/50 and running OSX and win 7 side by side as virtual machines using vm fusion.  Can the partition size be changed without starting over?

Very helpful.  I started with vm ware to create a pseudo drive but could not import win 7 over home network.  mac has no immediate way to connect to network without adapter, and has no cdrom.  So i used boot camp to create partition, then made a bootable win7 iso file on a memory stick using win 7 usb/cdrom download tool from microsoft, and rEFIT to get mac to boot from the mem stick into the dos partition.  Then i ran vm fusion to import the win 7 partition as a virtual machine.  OSx and win 7 run side by side.
Seems from what you say that sizing cannot be accomplished without deleting partition and starting over.  If I start over and just run vm fusion to create he win7 virtual machine, not sure how I would bet the minimum win 7 os into the ac.  Perhaps vm will boot from the mem stick using refit.  Do you know?

  • Can the command line application be extended?

I would like to add command like keys etc..Is this possible?

Correct me if I am wrong, from what I understand, beanShell is a scripting language which interprets the Java language. Yes, I could connect to coherence cache and run any commands I want. However, that won't include the commands which are already prefined in the tangosol command line, would it?
If I am wrong, I would appreciate if you could show me an example of beanShell and the command line application.

  • Can the D recovery partition be hacked, i,m worried.

    Hi to all,
I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook less than a year old and about 4wks ago it was seriously hacked and the hacker had gained privelage rights to virtually everything, well most of my systems services were taken over, and god knows what else they done, the crazy thing is i have norton antivirus installed and all up to date and malwarebytes trial was running yet they were giving the all clear so i'm not sure how they managed to filter or bypass those, the thing i am worried about is when i looked into the hidden files i noticed a couple of files on the D recovery partition were of the same date it was hacked and was wondering if they might have hacked or modified the recovery partition so that if i done a factory reset it would still allow the hacker access to my laptop, luckily i did make a set of recovery disks as soon as i bought the laptop so using these should remove any sign of a hack or would they have modified the bios or uefi, i,m just really paranoid now and at the time of the hack i had £300 taken from my bank account by someone in bangkok. Also they might have got my windows 8 and office product keys etc, can they use these?.
If doing a full factory reset with the disks i made when bought will this remove everything that the hacker done to my system, any help greatly appreciated.

Normally the files in Recovery partition are 'Read only' and protected. Should be safe to do a reinstall from the partition, but if you are uneasy about it just boot from the Recovery Disks.

  • Can the desktop be partitioned?

Because the toolbar in Quicken 2007 can't be resized, I spend a lot of time shifting between windows when I want to view financial data I've stored in PDFs or Excel spreadsheets and enter it in Quicken. Using Spaces doesn't solve the problem, because I still can't view and use other apps on the same screen at the same time with Quicken, thanks to Quicken's screen-hogging toolbar. With a 20-inch monitor, it's really frustrating not to be able to solve this problem by simply partitioning the desktop and running different apps in different partitions that could all be viewed on the desktop simultaneously. Is there software or a work-around that would allow me to do this?

The problem is with Quicken. OS X really can't help with an application that behaves badly. Complain to Intuit. Perhaps they have a solution for you. Or you can operate Spaces in its multi-space display mode.

  • Can the command window go away?

We're upgrading from 6.0 to 6.1 and on our Windows development machines, the new version pops open a command window, which we can't seem to make go away.
This didn't happen in 6.0, and they're kind of annoying. How can we get the 6.1 server to start without opening a command window?

The easiest way to stop this is to go into the Services tool for Windows and uncheck the "Interact with desktop" option for the Web Server service. If this is on Win2k this is under the "LogOn" tab.

  • Can the user add content??

    Hello, I'm developing an Oracle Portal whith Oracle 9iAS;
it will be an intranet portal accessible from emloyee's society,so it's necessary that all of them could update the content of the portal adding their own projects.
The problem is that i don't know how I can allow them these insert.
    Thank You for your sensibility.Hello!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank You for your replace, but viewing the documentaion about "adding content", unfortunatly I haven't solved my problem...!
I can't give to portal users all "edit privilegies" because, in this way, they can both adding new docs to old content(....and this is good!!!!),and they can update all existing content in the site(...and it is quite good!!!!), and they can occasionly delate some docs(...and it is terrible...isn't it ?!).
I hope Oracle portal offers an alternative allowing user to add files without "giving" him all "edit privilegies"!!
    Thanks! Bye!

  • Can the MacStore add a 2nd fan to my Macbook Pro 15-inch?

It always overheats gaming and I heard it only has 1 fan?
    Overheating meaning 94-104C.

By not gaming, for example. Or you have some other problem causing your computer to heat up such as corrupted files or caches.
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

  • Partitioning of table in oracle 10g - How to Add

    Hello Friends ,
Hope you are all fine and doing great.
By the way - I have a quick question on oracle 10g Partitioning of tables...
I have a table with partition as stated below ..
    CREATE TABLE X_ACC_ASSETS_GPC_AGG
    X_ACC_ASSETS_GPC_AGG_RK NUMBER(10) NOT NULL,
    X_AS_OF_DT DATE NOT NULL,
    ACCOUNT_RK NUMBER(10) NOT NULL,
    X_UNIV_ACCOUNT_ID NUMBER(10),
    ACCOUNT_ID VARCHAR2(10 BYTE),
    X_ASSET_TYPE_CD VARCHAR2(6 BYTE),
    X_AUC_AMT NUMBER(18,5),
    X_FIRM_AMT NUMBER(18,5),
    X_ADJ_SRCE_AMT NUMBER(18,5),
    PROCESSED_DTTM DATE
    )PARTITION BY RANGE (X_AS_OF_DT)
    PARTITION P200712 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE(' 2008-01-01 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
    NOLOGGING
    NOCOMPRESS
    TABLESPACE KAW_DATA
    PCTFREE 10
    INITRANS 1
    MAXTRANS 255
    STORAGE (
    INITIAL 64K
    MINEXTENTS 1
    MAXEXTENTS 2147483645
    BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT
    PARTITION P201112
    NOLOGGING
    NOCOMPRESS
    TABLESPACE KAW_DATA
    PCTFREE 10
    INITRANS 2
    MAXTRANS 255
    STORAGE (
    INITIAL 64K
    MINEXTENTS 1
    MAXEXTENTS 2147483645

    PARTITION PMAX
    NOLOGGING
    NOCOMPRESS
    TABLESPACE KAW_DATA
    PCTFREE 10

    STORAGE (
    INITIAL 64K
    MINEXTENTS 1
    MAXEXTENTS 2147483645
    BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT
    )NOPARALLEL;
    My question is :
    1) How to add a partition say P201201 ..
Since I have already stated PARTITION PMAX can I still add partition?
    2) Can I add partition even though the table has data ?
    ==========================
I tried to add partition ..say
ALTER TABLE X_ACC ADD PARTITION P201201 VALUES LESS THAN
    (TO_DATE(' 2012-01-01 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
    NOLOGGING
    NOCOMPRESS
    TABLESPACE KAW_DATA
    PCTFREE 10
    INITRANS 1
    MAXTRANS 255
    STORAGE (
    INITIAL 64K
    MINEXTENTS 1
    MAXEXTENTS 2147483645
    BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT
    but getting the error ..
"partition bound must collate higher than that of the last partition"
    Thanks/kumar

    You have partitions
    200712
    200812
    200912
    201012
    201112
    PMAX.
so your condition for partition p201112 is '201012-01-01' to '201112-01-01' i.e the values between these two dates will be in partition p201112. and then everything else will be in PMAX. So now you are splitting your pmax.
    alter table X_acc split partition pmax at ( to_date('2012-01-01 00:00:00','YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN') )
into (partition p201201, partition pmax); The condition you have to change. I just showed as an example. It could be the date range between two dates or it could be greater than a date value. It is upto how you want this new partition.
how to add partition between two partition

  • Partitioning Fact Table

    Hi
In our data warehouse we have a Fact table which has grown quite a large in size around 17 million records. We have been pondering on the options to partition this table.
Unfortunately this fact table does not have any date columns , all columns are surrogate keys of dimensions, even for time dimensions. My idea is to partition by range by manually specifying the surrogate key ranges of time dimension. Is that the way one proced with?
Other option is to, add a new column to the Fact Table and populate with the corresponding "ddmmyyyy" in number format and use that one to partition the table. If I go with this approach, if in my reports / queries if I use the dimension key to join between the Fact and Dimension, will oracle still identify which partition to look for? Or do I MUST use the partitioned column in the queries for partition pruning to be effective.
    Any thoughts would be useful.
    Regards
    Mahesh

if in my reports / queries if I use the dimension key to join between the Fact and Dimension, will oracle still identify which partition to look for? No the oracle will not use the Partition Prunning in this case.
Or do I MUST use the partitioned column in the queries for partition pruning to be effective.yes , you need to use the partitioned column for partition pruning to be effective.
    Cheers

  • How to use command "Add Link" in Number 3.0

I have seen the command "Add Link" in Number 3.0. I try to use it but I can't.  What happen ?

    TA,
If you are referring to the Add LInk item in the Format menu, you need to write some text in a cell and Select that text. Then the Add Link option will be enabled.

  • Partition a table

    Hi,
i should want to know what are the benefit to partition a table, because I follow the step on:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/tables.htm#i1006754
    the example 1.
but i cannot demostrate some really benefit.
    For example:
I have a table AVAN with some index, after that i made AVAN partitioned with the same index, How i can demostrate that after partioned the query executed on partioned table is better?
If there is a solution of course.
    thanks

Hi, I've runned the explain plan on a partitioned table and on a non-partitioned table (both table contain the same data).
The table partioned has only an LOCAL index more, than do not have a partitioned table:

ADD PARTITION시 NEW LOCAL INDEX PARTITION에 관하여
    ==================================================
(※ Oracle Partitioning Option은 8~10g Standard Edition에서는 지원하지 않는다.)
    개 요
    =======
    (ALTER TABLE SPLIT PARTITION도 마찬가지)
new index partition의 이름은 new table partition과 같은 이름이 할당되고,

    1. If i drop one partition of a table why all the local indexes(year_1998 ... year_2000) get dropped but year_idx remains in database? I couldn't find index in dba_part_indexes view but i could find only year_idx line in dba_indexes view.
    >
After dropping a partition, the row in DBA_PART_INDEXES still exists, so I'm unsure why it does not appear on your system. The index however does not appear in the DBA_INDEXES view before or after the drop partition:
    for example
    SQL> select owner, index_name from dba_part_indexes where
      2  index_name = 'YEAR_IDX';
    OWNER                          INDEX_NAME
    APPS                           YEAR_IDX
    SQL> alter table all_facts drop partition year_1999;
    Table altered.
    SQL> select owner, index_name from dba_part_indexes where
      2  index_name = 'YEAR_IDX';
    OWNER                          INDEX_NAME
    APPS                           YEAR_IDX
    SQL> select owner, index_name from dba_indexes
      2  where index_name = 'YEAR_INDEX';
    no rows selected
