Cancelled mavericks download - lost all HP software

Greetings,
I have a desktop mac that's a few years old and running OSX 10.6.8. Since Mavericks can supposedly be downloaded for free even if you're running 10.6.8, I tried. And I repeatedly tried and each time hours would go by with no change in the status bar. The last time, I got fed up and I just cancelled the download. That was last week. But this post is about my HP HP4480 all-in-one printer.
My scanner won't scan from the machine (old problem, never solved), so today when I wanted to scan something, I opened up the systems preferences window. I was able to scan four documents. Later on today, I tried to scan a document and the application froze after previewing the document. It sat there with the little "working" icon spinning endlessly. I tried quitting the application and the systems preferences window for the printer/scanner closed and the application's menu bar disappeared, but the scan window stayed open with the icon still spinning. That was about a half an hour ago and its still going.
I searched for an answer online and discovered that everyone and their dog is having trouble with using their HPs to scan since the download. I didn't even *complete* the download and I'm having trouble. And many folks said that some of the necessary HP software was missing. Sure enough...ALL of my HP software is missing (I used both the search function and manually scanned the application and utilities folders). That's righ, all of my HP software is missing, except for the system preferences window...???? I don't know how the printer did *anything* in the last few days.
So...I got rid of the Mavericks installer that was in the utilities folder and I tried to download HP drivers for this printer, but nothing's working. I shut down the printer (the machine) and still the scan window persists. I will now try shutting down the computer completely, but without software...???
I hope that HP & Apple have figured something out in this department...I work from home. grrrrr.

Update...when I turned on my computer this afternoon, the scan screen was still there and still stuck.

Last year I purchsed CS6 in the form of CDs from the University of California Polytechnic in San Luis Obispo.
I installed them on my MacBook Pro.
I transferred colleges to the University of Wisconsin Stout.
Last week my hard drive corrupted and I lost all my Creative Suite software.
I doubt that I have my product code or CDs anymore (just lost in the travel).
Is there a way I that I can be given a download from Adobe to get my software back?
I've already paid for it once, and even with my student discount it was not cheap!

Tonight I upgraded to OS X Mavericks, it asked me to create an account and now it seems I have 2 users and I have lost all my documents, photos, music, etc.
How can I switch to the previous user?

Do you have (or did you have) PPC apps. If so none of those would have survived the transition to Mavericks. You can check the apps you had here, though it looks like you may be too late.

Mavericks download froze all email accounts

Downloaded Mavericks and now all email accounts are frozen, mail is frozen. All accounts are online and I can see my messages coming in, but I cannot access them at all. Nothing works in mail. When I try to add accounts over again, it says this account is online. When I try to change my account preferences, i cannot see my accounts on the left side, it is all jumbled and distorted. Along with the mail issues, my MacBook is beyond slow. I've tried restarting my computer, I've tried re downloading Mavericks, nothing is working. Can anybody offer any ideas?

Could be that the Property List file has gotten corrupted. Try the following:
Close Mail
Move the file com.apple.Mail.plist from folder <home>/Library/Preferences to the Desktop
Re-start Mail
Mail will behave as if it is a new installation so create your primary account.
Create any other accounts you have in the normal manner via Mail Preferences.
Your Messages are stored in the folder <home>/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and whatever structure you had in terms of folders and subfolders under the Mail window sidebar heading of "ON MY MAC" should be there.
If Mail has not already found those messages as a result of you re-creating all your email accounts then you can import them using the following method:
Close Mail
Drag the folder <home>/Library/Mail/Mailboxes to the desktop
Launch Mail
Click File then Import Mailboxes
Click Mail for Mac OS X
Click Continue
Select the folder you moved to the desktop
Click Choose
Click Continue

HT5994 I installed Mavericks and lost all my iWork '08 files. Not really lost but they show up with inverted colours, white text, and impossible to edit. Pages 5 appeared to be a great disaster, and can't even open my old files. I want the old iWork back!

My music editing program Finale can open files from the 90:s. Pages 5 can't open files I made half a year ago in Pages 08.
Some difference in knowledge there.
5 years work is gone, if Apple are inable to fix this. Perheps they are?

I have tried to update my former iWork with updates from the app store. Mavericks refuses to open them. Mavericks tells me "Can't open, because they are from an unknown source". My iMac tells me that Apples app store is an unknown source.
Just can't believe how Apples software developers could get permission to turn somethiing rally, really good to this really mediocre version pages 5. The opposite to development if you ask me.
What were they thinking?
I'm angry.

Lost All Adobe Software Help

When I opened Photoshop CS2 today and tried to access Help, I received the error message: The operation could not be completed. I have closed and reopened Photoshop, even shut down and restarted the computer. I also tried using help in Adobe Bridge and Adobe InDesign. Same error message for those programs, too.
Is there some way to reload all the help without having to uninstall and reinstall all my Adobe programs?
I have Adobe CS2 Suite. I also have Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements. I have not checked the Help for those programs yet.

I finally got Photoshop Help to work. Even though I uninstalled/reinstalled Adobe CS2, there was no Help available on any of my programs. Finally, I uninstalled just Adobe Help Center 2.1. Then, reinstalled from online. Okay, that installed the Help Center, but no Help documents for any of my Adobe programs. I don't know why these documents did not install with the original CDs.
So now, I have downloaded Photoshop Help and it works. I guess I'll have to try and find the Help documents for All the CS2 programs.
Any other guidance out there. This is a mess.

Hung Mavericks upgrade lost all users

Upgrading my Mini from 10.8.4 hung for about 6 hours with a nearly-full progress bar, so I tried to just quit and restart. That beachballed, so I finally did a force shutdown. When I restarted, I had to walk through the initial setup, creating a new user. I can now only log in as that user - while my other /Users folders are there, I do not see these users on the login screen.
Anything I should do before setting up a Genius appointment?

Cancel download method when the user cancel the download file

I have a method that download a file ("downloadLog_action()")when the user click over the comandlink component and the dialog box is opening to save the file, but how to know that the user canceled the download file to cancel all accions.

The problem occurs when the user cancels the download, because all the sentences run including updating the counter downloads, the counter only to be updated only when the user chooses to save the file.

Thanks but I have tried doing the above - when I said 7 times I was modest, its more like 15 times.
And I am referring to the 5.1 software update. I dont have wifi so I guess I will have to try that seeing that my husband also has the same problem - he has also tried downloading several times. It always times out en says that the connection is lost but yet there are always an internet connection and a decent signal once it stopped. Think it said error 32052 or something!
I am disappointed because the update includes inprovement on the battery life - did you guys notice any difference?

Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.
