Cannot acces (a class), bad class file, class file contains wrong class

Hi,
I am trying to implement a Java package and I've never done this before. The package is called 'randomX' and I downloaded it from here: http://www.fourmilab.ch/hotbits/source/randomX/randomX.html
I downloaded the .tar file on my Windows Vista system, unzipped it, and dragged and dropped into(in my case): C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_05\src\java\util
This is also the directory where Random.java is, so I figured it went there, plus the Java Documentation says that, I think.
The Java Docs are here: http://www.fourmilab.ch/hotbits/source/randomX/doc/
Thanks in advance,
Rommel.

No. That's not right - you need to put the JAR file into your classpath.

If it doesn't come with a JAR file then you'll need to build it first. Sounds like that might be outside your comfort zone.Thanks for the link and the tip. I have no idea what a JAR file is, much less how to build one.
However, the thing has a "Makefile" file. Can I build the JAR from this?
#   Makefile for randomX package
JAVA = /usr/java/jdk1.5.0_06
CLASSPATH = $(JAVA)/classes:..:.
SRC = randomX.java randomJava.java randomHotBits.java randomLCG.java \

CLASS = $(SRC:.java=.class)
all:
     javac -classpath ..  *java ; cp -p *class randomX
test:
     java randomXdemo
clean:
     rm -f *.bak *.class
     rm -rf doc
     mkdir doc
     rm -rf randomX
     mkdir randomX
RELEASE = $(SRC) Makefile
release:
     tar cfvz randomX.tar.gz $(RELEASE)
html:
     javadoc -classpath $(CLASSPATH) -d doc *.java
images:
     ( cd $(JAVA)/images ; tar cfv /tmp/ZZimages.tar . )
     rm -rf doc
     mkdir doc
     mkdir doc/images
     (cd doc/images ; tar xfv /tmp/ZZimages.tar )
     rm -f /tmp/ZZimages.tar
     touch randomX.java

    L.

    Given your java file, the fully qualified name of the class is dbUtil.dbConfig.
    What you are importing is eb.dbUtil.dbConfig
    These things are not the same.
    The root of the classpath for the webapp is the classes directory.
    So either
    1 - specify dbConfig.java to be in package eb.dbUtil
    2 - move the class file into web-inf/classes/dbUtil/dbConfig.class, and import dbUtil.dbConfig.
    Also, by convention, classnames should start with a capital letter ie dbUtil.DbConfig.

  • How to read file in JAR file (the one containing applet class)

    my applet needs to read a file (font file) that will be bundled in the jar file. how do i read that file?
    i tried using
    URL u = new URL("file:///myfont.ttf");
    u.openStream();i got AccessControlException. is there anyway for the applet to load file in the JAR file? i see applet can load image in the jar file so figured that it should be able to do so with some other type of file
    thanks

    The reason you're getting access violation is the way you code your URL -- it's pointing to a file on the user's local disk. If my.ttf is in the jar, try:
          URL url=myApplet.class.getClassLoader().getResource("myfont.ttf");Where myApplet is the name of your applet and the font file is assumedly kept in the same directory level in the jar file as the class file for your applet.

  • Acces dynamic configuration variable (e.g. filename) in ABAP mapping class

    Hi experts
    I am searching for a possibility to acces a dynamic configuration variable (DCV) in an ABAP mapping class. Since I could not find a solution in SDN and other sources, I hope somebody in this forum can help me.
    What I already found is the following code which can be used to set a DCV, but what I would be interested in is how to read a DCV.
    Any help is appreciated.

    l_record-value = 'test.xml'.

  • Trying to access methods from a .class file by creating instance of class

    Hey all,
    I'm hoping you can help. I've been given a file "Input.class" with methods such as readInt(), readString(), etc. I have tried creating instances of this class to make use of it, but I receive the error "cannot find symbol : class Input".
    If you could help at all, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Here's my code. The first is the base program, the second is the driver.
    import java.util.*;
    public class CarObject
         private String makeType = "";
         private String modelType = "";
         private int yearOfRelease = 0;
         private double numOfMiles = 0.0;
         public void setFilmTitle(String make)
              makeType = make;
         public void setMediaType(String model)
              modelType = model;
         public void setYearOfRelease(int year)
              yearOfRelease = year;
         public void setNumOfMiles(double miles)
              numOfMiles = miles;
         public String getMakeType()
              return makeType;
         public String getModelType()
              return modelType;
         public int getYearOfRelease()
              return yearOfRelease;
         public double getNumOfMiles()
              return numOfMiles;
    The program is used by a rental car company and the object takes on desired attributes.
    import java.util.*;
    public class TestCarObject
         static Scanner keyboard = new Scanner(System.in);
         public static void main(String[] args)
              System.out.println("Please answer the following questions regarding your rental car order.");
              Input carinput = new Input();
              String makeType = carinput.readString("Enter your desired make of car: ");
              String modelType = carinput.readString("Enter your desired model of car: ");
              int yearOfRelease = carinput.readInt("Enter the oldest acceptable year of release to rent: ");
              double numOfMiles = carinput.readDouble("Enter the highest acceptable number of miles: ");
              System.out.println("Make: " + makeType);
              System.out.println("Model: " + makeType);
              System.out.println("Year: " + makeType);
              System.out.println("Mileage: " + makeType);
    }

    No, I don't know the package name....Is there a way
    to import the Input.class by itself without importing
    the entire packge?
    I tried extending the driver program too...It didn't
    work either...

    BoxMan56How do you know you have a class called Input.class ?
    You got a jar file which contains it ? or just a simple .class file ?
    You have to set the classpath in either case.
    But for the former, you should also need to explicitly telling which package containing the class file you looking for (i.e. Input.class)
    e.g. java.util.Vector which is a class called Vector inside java.util package.
    You don't have to import the whole package, but you should tell which package this class belongs to.

  • Error in compiling: file javax\servlet\jsp\PageContext.class not found

    Hi,
    i'm getting an error when I'm trying to compile an java file. The error is as follows:
    cannot access javax.servlet.jsp.PageContext
    file javax\servlet\jsp\PageContext.class not found
    Isn't the javax package included in jdk? I've installed jdk 1.3.1_03 and j2re1.4.0_02. Shouldn't this PageContext.class be automatically loaded when i've installed jdk?
    I'm getting desperated! I've tried almost everything: i've changed the classpath, moved the directory of the java file I'm trying to compile over and over but i'm getting no success!
    Any help is very welcome!
    Thankx,
    Nuno.

    hmmm... i had a look and it seems that what you are trying to "import" is actually in a package... instead of import try:
    package javax.servlet.jsp;you may need to go download this "package" and complile it in the directory you are working in.
    my advice: try the above statement (which does compile for me), if it doesn't work, you will need to find the source code for this package and compile it just like you do any other source code.
    hope this helps.

  • Taglib: class not found in jar-file

    I've got the following problem:
    I whant to deploy a taglib to tomcat 5.0.25.
    If I point to the jsp which uses the taglib I got the following error:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to read TLD "META-INF/taglib.tld" from JAR file "file:/C:/Programme/Apache Software Foundation/Tomcat 5.0/webapps/taglibtest/WEB-INF/lib/gsa_prod3_db_taglib.jar": org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Failed to load or instantiate TagExtraInfo class: ch.gsa.prodass3.taglib.TagAddAttributeTEI
    If I copy the taglib.tld out of the jar-file into WEB-INF and do the mapping in web.xml, I get this error:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Failed to load or instantiate TagExtraInfo class: ch.gsa.prodass3.taglib.TagAddAttributeTEI

    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ch.gsa.prodass3.taglib.TagAddAttributeTEI
    It seems like none of the files in the jar-file could be loaded.
    Has anybody an idea?
    Help would be very appreceated!
    Greetings, Jonas

    1 - double check the class is in the jar file, in that path, and is spelt correctly
    2 - restart Tomcat
    3 - check the contents of the tld file - particularly the extra-info tag and class name for it.

  • Help using scanner class to count chars in file

    Hi all, I am learning Java right now and ran into a problem. I need to use the Scanner class to accurately count the number of chars in a file including the line feed chars 10&13.
    This what I have and it currently reports a 201 byte file as having 194 chars:
         File file = new File(plainFile);
         Scanner inputFile = new Scanner(file);
         numberOfChars = 0;
         String line;
         //count characters in file
         while (inputFile.hasNextLine())
              line = inputFile.nextLine();
              numberOfChars += line.length();
    I know there are other ways using BufferedReader, etc but I have to use Scanner class to do this.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Using tie-classed to change name of file uploaded through FTP protocol srvr

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use the extendedPreAddItem (or Post) method in an S_TieFolder class to automatically change the name of a file (an S_PublicObject) when it enters a Folder (via an FTP put upload).
    I'm fiddling around with code like this:
    AttributeValue val = AttributeValue.newAttributeValue(newDocName);
    val.setName(Document.NAME_ATTRIBUTE);
    rightpo.setAttribute(val);
    But it does not work: in the FTP client the filename is indeed changed, but somewhere at lower levels the original filename is still being used...
    Any helpfull ideas would be appreciated.
    TOon

    I'm aware of this... My ftp-client (FTP-Voyager) will prompt me if I "put" a file that already exists in the remote folder, and ask me to go ahead and replace the file, or cancel the put-operation.
    However in this case the ftp-client sees file X' remotely and I'm putting file X, so it does not prompt me at all...
    Stopping and restarting the FTP-client (in case it caches remote folder-contents...) does not change the behaviour.
    Timewise this is what happens:
    1) I put file X.
    2) My S_TieFolder class (extendedPreAddItem) changes it's name into X'.
    3) The ftp-put successfully completes
    4) I refresh the remote folder contents and see the X' name instead of the original X name.
    5) I re-put X (and would now like to have it changed into file X'').
    6) Before my S_TieFolder code executes, something (I'm still suspecting the cm-sdk) deletes the X' file first... ==> the logfile does not show any communication with the ftp-client here now.
    7) Then my S_TieFolder code executes and changes the name into X''.
    8) I refresh the remote folder contents: File X' disappears, file X (just re-put) changes into X''.
    More testing has shown that I'm also not able to delete these files (whose names have been changed by S_TieFolder): 'file does not exist' error.
    I need to know:
    a) If changing the files name on-the-fly using S_Tie class is supported at all.
    and
    b) if so, what am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Toon

  • WorkShop 3.2.0 - WEB-INF/classes not included in war file

    I've created the "Faces Example" project in Workshop Studio 3.2.0 and it's running fine. However, when I export the war file to run it on another server the class files located at "WEB-INF/classes" are not included with the war.
    Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.
    thks!

    Unfortunately no, the issue with output folder being ignored occurs only with example apps bundled with Workshop product.
    You can try the following workaround:
    - In Workshop, Project > Properties - Java Build Path, switch to Source tab - "Remove the source folder listing" - Click OK and dismiss Properties window.
    - Project > Properties - Java Build Path > Source Tab, add the same source folder entry - Click OK
    - Export as WAR
    With this you should see the class files bundled under output directory structure (Ex: WEB-INF/classes).
