Cannot drop cube or analytic workspace due to ORA-37409

The error is ORA-37409: cannot delete or truncate AW used by CUBE ORGANIZED table.
This seems very closely related to the bug discussed in this thread: Drop cube organized table
We need to drop and rebuild a cube due to a design change. It looks like there are some CR$ tables related to the cube preventing the drop.
We cannot drop the CR$ table, nor can we drop the cube, nor can we drop the analytic workspace. We have tried disabling materialized view refresh on the cubes (which works but leaves the CR$ tables out there). We have tried the drop using dbms_aw.aw_delete and with dbms_cube.import_xml (to remove everything). No such luck.
Is there a workaround you can give me that will allow us to drop the CR$ tables? Or a workaround that will allow us to drop the workspace?

Update:
Our last attempt to drop the analytic workspace did remove almost all OLAP metadata. However, there were still rows in sys.olap_tab$ with object IDs relating the problem CR$ tables. In a test database, we confirmed that deleting these rows does allow us to drop the CR$ tables that cannot otherwise be dropped. However, running DML against a sys-owned table like this is unwise at best, and certainly an unsupported workaround (unless we can get Oracle's blessing to do it).
We may go through MOS and see if Oracle can provide a one-off patch for the bug listed above, to correct this situation. Or perhaps they may be able to provide some other direction.
This puts us in a situation where our only immediate option may be to uninstall the OLAP option and reinstall it.

  • Delete dimension/cube in Analytic Workspace

Hello, I've created some dimensions and cubes in an analytic workspace using DBMS_AW package. But, How can I delete these objects using a similar methodology? I have not found any procedure like CREATE_AWDIMENSION/CREATE_AWCUBE that helps me to delete the object.
    Thanks by your help.

In 9.2x code stream, having it not in cwm2/all_olap2_dimensions means it will be invisible/unaccessible to the OLAP API but, as you point out, it still exists in the AW, and as such, it still exists in all_olap2_aw_dimensions.
The early comment was a way to potentially "work around" the inability of no automation to "fully" delete it, by suggesting a way to "partially" delete it so as to "hide" the dimension from the OLAP API, without actually deleting it (or any of it's storage, obviously) from the AW.

    Hi
I am completely new to Oracle OLAP.
I have installed Oracle 10g(10.1.0.2) with OLAP option enabled.

AWM does need to be installed separately. Download it from OTN and install (really just unzip!). http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/htdocs/devlic.html?=http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/olap/AWM102030_Win.zip

  • Analytic Workspace Manager possible bug: Maintain Cube hangs

    Hi All,
I am a newbe, I have been following the tutorial "Building OLAP 11g Cubes". http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/olap_cube/buildicubes.htm
After the step "Maintain Cube SALES_CUBE", I got the information box "Loading facts for cube SALES_CUBE"...on the screen for the last 4 hours.
Is this normal? Should I kill the process and start again?
I am running Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 on a Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 with 1GB RAM.
The Analytic Workspace Manager is 11.2.0.1.0 running on a Windows XP SP3.
    Any help is much appreciated

I'm getting a similar problem, I cannot maintain cubes that worked fine yesterday:

It all started after I tried to add a calculated measure to an existing cube (something I have done before in 11g...a feature I love).
This is too bad, so far I've been loving 11g Olap as compared to 10g Olap. But now 11g is starting to crop up these bullshit bugs as well. I guess OLAP is still too crappy to rely on for production....good thing I won't recommend a rollout of this product to my clients. It's a great tool for having fun with development, but using Oracle Olap + AWM in a real company is career suicide.

  • Can't attach to Analytical Workspace anymore

    Hi,
I can't attach to the Analytical Workspace anymore with AWM, nor will my mapping from OWB attach to it. OWB control center gives the following error:
    Warning
ORA-20101: 11:36:16 ***Error Occured in BUILD_DRIVER: In __XML_SEQUENTIAL_LOADER: In __XML_ADJ_OBJ_LIST: Analytic workspace ERBI_AW is not attached.
What I did a while ago is rename a cube in OWB to the name of an already existing (deployed) cube. This I think started the troubles (d'oh!). I can deploy(drop) and deploy(create) the cube from OWB control center, but AWM won't attach anymore and OWB won't run any map to the AW anymore with the above error.
What can I do to 'clean up' the Analytical Workspace?
    Thanks,
    Ed

It seems another deploy(drop) followed by deploy(create) did the trick for the OWB client. AWM still cannot connect, which will become a problem.

  • ORA-34492: Analytic workspace object cubename _STORED does not exist.

I am having issues accessing cube data from a user other than where the AW was built.
Following is what I have done in User-1:
    1. Create two AW's in User-1 : AW-1 and AW-2.
    2. Create all objects in these two AW's
    3. AW-2 is dynamically attached on attaching AW-1 by using PERMIT startup programs. Please refer Attaching multiple AW's
    4. Refreshed both AW's to load data
    5. ALLCOMPILE - no errors.
    6. Created some SQL views on User-1 which basically query the underlying cube views. I also have some queries using the olap_table option.
    7. All my querries work fine in User-1. I can access data from AW-1 and AW-2.
However, we give access to the above SQL views through an abstract user: User-abs. In 10g, all we did was grant select privs to all the User-1.AW$ tables and also on all the sql views. This would let User-abs get data from the cubes in User-1.
I am not able to get User-abs to do the same in 11g. We encounter an error mentioning that the workspace object <cubename>_STORED does not exist. The cubename it is referring to exists in AW-2.
I granted select privs on all AW$ tables, dimension views, cube views and the abstracted sql views but the error persists.
I tried searching this forum but could not find any helpful leads. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Database - 11.2.0.1
    AWM - 11.2.0.2.0A

I can think of two possible problems. First, you may not be properly qualifying the owner name when you refer to the object. This can be important when refering to objects owned by other schemas. For example instead of 'my_cube_stored' you would say 'user-1.aw-2!my_cube_stored'. You should also be careful about the order in which you attach the AWs. Do you want AW-2 attached first or last? Use the LAST keyword on AW ATTACH to control this.
Another possibility is that you have added additional logic to PERMIT_READ over and above the 'aw attach' comand. I was able to recreate the error with the following code in a new AW called TEST_AW in the GLOBAL schema.
    DEFINE PERMIT_READ PROGRAM BOOLEAN
    PROGRAM
    aw attach global.global
    show global.global!units_cube_stored
    return true
ENDAttaching TEST_AW in RO mode as any user gives me the following error.
ORA-34492: Analytic workspace object GLOBAL.GLOBAL!UNITS_CUBE_STORED does not
    exist.
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_AW", line 93
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_AW", line 122
ORA-06512: at line 1Here is the documentation for PERMIT_READ
    >
    PERMIT_READ
A PERMIT_READ program is a program that you can create and that Oracle OLAP checks for by name when an AW ATTACH read-only command executes. Depending on the value returned by the program, Oracle OLAP executes the code within the program after attaching the analytic workspace. Depending on the statements in the permit_read program the user is granted or denied access to specific objects or sets of object values. Within permit_read program, you can specify PERMIT commands that grant or restrict access to individual workspace objects. All of the objects referred to in a given permit_read must exist in the same analytic workspace.
    >
Note, especially, the restriction in the last sentence. This means that a PERMIT_READ program in AW1, for example, cannot refer to objects in AW2. So this is why my PERMIT_READ doesn't work. The AUTOGO does not have these restrictions, but as we know from the forum post you cited, AUTOGO is broken in 11.2.0.1. You can move forward to 11.2.0.2 where AUTOGO is fixed, but there is workaround, which is to add a PERMIT_READ program to the second AW to do the work. For example, if I add this PERMIT_READ to GLOBAL and remove the 'show' command from the PERMIT_READ in TEST_AW, then everything works as expected.
    DEFINE PERMIT_READ PROGRAM BOOLEAN
    PROGRAM
    if aw(attached 'test_aw')
    then do
    show global.global!units_cube_stored
    doend
    return true
    END

  • How to fix ORA-33262: Analytic workspace MY_AW does not exist ?

Here is my version of : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/olap.112/e10795/select.htm#CBBGEGFA
I don't understand why I get this ORA-33262, it just does not make sense ...
The API should be doing AW ATTACH MYSCHEMA.MY_AW RO
Solution 1 : The DBA in my team thinks there is no way for her to create a synonym (or something like that) for the MYSCHEMA.MY_AW so I (the API) can use only MY_AW, anyone knows a way to do it ?
Maybe the second call to _displayResult() needs to ATTACH the AW while the first does not ...
Solution 2 : How could I specify to the API to use MYSCHEMA.MY_AW instead of MY_AW ?

Oups, sorry when posting, I always try to get ride of names specific to my application/company, I forgot to change CENSUS for MY_AW in the error message
In particular it is attaching the AW named CENSUS, but is complaining about MY_AW. I have a few questions.
    (1) In which AW does your PRODUCT_AWJ dimension live? CENSUS or MY_AW?
    I don't use PRODUCT_AWJ (I kept the comments from Oracle's example), at line 8, I use dimension.getName() instead
This dimension lives in the AW named "MY_AW"

Using AWM, I tried to do the command "AW ATTACH MY_AW RO", it does not work, I get the same ORA error, I've to use "AW ATTACH MYSCHEMA.MY_AW RO"

    No, sorry again, my mistake

Not to my knowledge, the DBA knows I've this problem, so she should have tought about it ... I'll ask her just in case

  • Creating a DWMQY DIMENSION using Analytic Workspace Manager

    Hi everyone,
I need some help creating a "time aware" (DAY, WEEK, MONTH, QUARTER, and YEAR) dimension using Analytic Workspace Manager.
Let me give you some background. I'm coming from a traditional "Oracle Express" OLAP background where all our data is stored in cubes and these are defined, populated and operated on using OLAP DML, there is no SQL or traditional relational tables involved.
I now want to pull data from relational tables into some OLAP cubes and am using Analytic Workspace Manager to do this (maybe this is not the best way?)
Let me explain what I'm trying to achieve. In OLAP worksheet I can type the following DML commands:
    DEFINE MY_DAY DIMENSION DAY
    MAINTAIN MY_DAY ADD TODAY '01JAN2011'
What this will do is create a "day dimension" and will populate it with values for each and every day between 1st Jan 2011 and today. It will be fully "time aware" and thus you can use date functions such as DAYOF to limit the MY_DAY dimension to all the Fridays etc. Similarly if I define a "month dimension" there will be an automatic implicit relationship between these two dimensions, this relationship and time aware cleverness is built into Oracle.
However, a dimension defined using DML commands (and indeed all objects created using DML language) is not visible in Analytic Workspace Manager (as there is no metadata for them?) and for the life of me I cannot work out how to create such a dimension using AWM. If I create a "Time Dimension" then, as far as I can tell, this is not a proper time dimension but merely a text dimension and I, presume, I have to teach it time awareness.
Can anyone help me? I have no issues creating, and populating cubes from relational tables using Analytic Workspace Manager, the only issue I have is creating a "proper" time aware dimension.
    Many thanks in anticipation.
    Ian.

When a dimension is of type "TIME" in AWM, then for each member of that dimension, you need END_DATE and TIMESPAN attributes in addition to the key column and description column.
So in your case, if there are 5 levels: DAY->WEEK->MONTH->QTR->YEAR
then you will need atleast 15 columns in your source sql table/view
or 20 columns if you have separate column for description.
For example the columns in your source table/view could be:
    DAY_ID,
    DAY_DESC,
DAY_END_DATE, (which will be that day's date)
    DAY_TIMESPAN, (which will be 1)
    WEEK_ID,
    WEEK_DESC,
    WEEK_END_DATE,
    WEEK_TIMESPAN,

NOTE that behind-the-scenes lot of useful structures are automatically defined to support time-series measures,
and there are lot of calculation templates available also.
Since you came from Express background, I have to say that try to use new OLAP Expression Syntax when creating calculated measures instead of OLAP DML.
Its very rare these days that we need OLAP DML.

  • Cannot create a Sharepoint meeting workspace in a Outlook 2010 meeting request

I am using Sharepoint 2010 and Outlook 2010. I am trying to create a meeting request and also create a sharepoint workspace attach to that meeting request in Outlook.
First I click Create button and then it would let me choose a location for the workspace server in a drop-down box. I chose "other...". After I input my sharepoint site URL in the Workspace Server, Outlook does not recognize the address and a windows
popup saying "The operation could not be completed because of a problem found on the server or the server could not be found."
I checked the thread below and it doesn't solve my problem at all.
There is no reason why this should not be working.  I also created a meeting workspace in sharepoint, and can't even link it to an outlook meeting request when pasting the direct link from the browser.
Did Microsoft break this and forget (or not care) to tell anyone?

    Hi,
I found a similar thread and someone posted a solution:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/154/t/735.aspx
I've quoted the solution and you can try if this fits your scenario:
The issue with Outlook not being able to find a Meeting Workspace is usually due to authentication not being passed correctly. Adding Trusted Sites information to Internet Explorer lets the browser know to allow the authentication to pass.
    Open Internet Explorer
Go to: Internet Options -> Security -> Local Intranet -> Sites -> Advanced
    Add:   *.sharepoint.com ,  *.microsoftonline.com  ,  *.lync.com   ,  *.outlook.com
    Click Save
Then go to Internet Options -> Security -> Trusted Sites -> Sites
    Add:  https://*.sharepoint.com  ,
    https://*.microsoftonline.com  ,
    https://*.lync.com  ,
    https://*.outlook.com
    Click Save
    Close Internet Explorer
    Open Internet Explorer
Goto login.microsoftonline.com and sign in, make sure "keep me signed in" is checked.
Go back to outlook and the meeting workspace button will work now.
Note Since you are using Sharepoint 2010, in the example above it's SharePoint Online, the URL you need to add is your own SharePoint Site URL. Also login your own page as you should not be using login.microsoftonline.com.

  • Analytic Workspace Manager Release date

Does anyone know that release date for the analytic workspace manager?

I'm reluctant to start having a go at Oracle, because there's probably good technical reasons why AWM didn't come out last year, most probably due to 9i OLAP API changes invalidating much of the work the product team had done with the prototype of AWM. However, it's been about 18 months now, by my reckoning, since AWM was first talked about and it's still not generally available.
Of course, the features announced for the first version of AWM are only part of what we need 'out in the field' when working with 9i OLAP. We also need graphical tools to load analytic workspaces directly, rather than having to write OLAP DML dataloaders or go through an intermediate step of loading an Oracle star-schema, and in addition, migration tools for Express databases to help with the creation of OLAP Catalog metadata.
It's worth contrasting this with the release of OLAP Services when SQL Server 7.0 was released. There, Microsoft provided tools from the outset to create and manage OLAP cubes, which meant that users could get up and running immediately, not have to wait the best part of two years to get the most basic of tools to enable them to create OLAP databases.
As there's no doubt been quite a few technical challenges in delivering the 9i OLAP tools over the last couple of years, what would probably help the situation would be a more proactive communication strategy from the Oracle product team, in the way that the OWB team regularly post on their OTN forum and keep us all informed on how the product is progressing. Part of the frustration with 9i OLAP is the lack of any communication or updates on the product, leaving us guessing as to exactly when elements such as the AWM will actually come out. In addition, from what I can glean about OLAP support in 10g, there's some excellent news coming out, such as Multiwriter support, an XML interface for OLAP, Parallel support for aggregation and so on, which would be great news to hear and might make people 'hang on' rather than give up on the product.
Hopefully, as the last announcement from Oracle suggested, the AWM will be made available this month, and we can get on then with helping our customers and clients start taking advantage of the 9i OLAP platform.

  • Analytic Workspaces and Database Tablespace

    Hi,
I am trying to understand the intricacies in the setup of Analytic Workspaces and their corresponding tablespaces in the database, and here is the background:
I created an Analytic Workspace, say AW1 in a database that had a tablespace, say TS1. After sometime, I created another Tablespace, TS2 in the same database and using the same schema as before, created an Analytic Workspace, AW2 in TS2.
However, AW2 seems to get created in TS1 even though I select TS2 explicitly at the time of creating AW2. Also, if I drop an AW created using TS2 and then import it again (in the same schema) from the template, it gets created in TS1 and not TS2 as I would expect.
In essence, it seems to me that all AWs get created in the TS that was the first TS of my database (TS1 in this case), irrespective of the fact that I created them in different Tablespaces. Also, for all these experiments, the database and the environment is the same.
Can anyone please explain this behavior?
For reference, the database in use is Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production With the Partitioning, Oracle Label Security, OLAP and Data Mining Scoring Engine options
and the AWs have been created using Oracle Analytic Workspace Manager (AWM) v10.2.0.3.0A.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Piyush

    Hi Piyush,
AWM lets you specify the tablespace for your AW which allows you to override the default tablespace for the user. However, this information is not recorded in the XML template. Therefore, if you create an AW in a non-default tablespace, save the definition to an XML template, drop the AW and use the XML template to rebuild the AW then the AW will get created in the default tablespace.
There are two workarounds to this (that I can think of)
    1) Use a script to rebuild the AW from the XML template and alter the users default tablespace as part of the script and then set it back after the AW has been built.
    2) Use the AW Create packages that do allow you to specify the tablespace for the AW, run the DML command to create the standard form metadata and then script the loading of the XML definitions for each dimension and all your cubes.
    Hope this helps

  • MV vs. Analytic workspace

    Good morning,
    I read the document http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/db/11g/pdf/comparision_aw_mv_11g_twp.pdf
and I not understand clearly the difference, this probably made due to a poor knowledge of English.
    Someone just enlighten me?
AW generates views for the cubes and dimensions, allowing a SQL query, the MV too.
The MV directly contain any aggregates but it is also possible with cubes (you can define a level of aggregation total).
    My assertions are they correct?
So what are the major differences between the MV and analytic workspace Oracle?
Thank you once again in advance,
    David

The data for an 11g cube is stored in an AW. This includes both leaf and aggregate data.
This data in a cube can be accessed directly by an automatically generated SQL View. (This is sometimes called an 'ET View'.)
Optionally, the system can also generate an MV on top of the cube. This MV should be thought of as pure metadata on top of the cube -- the MV itself does not contain any data. The closest analogy is the
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW ON PREBUILT TABLE
statement. The MV defined on top of the cube provides a number of things.
    (1) You can access the data directly by running SELECT * FROM <cube mv>. This is possible, but gives you nothing that you could not get by selecting from the ET View instead.
    (2) It ties the cube back to the source tables so that the system will know if the data in the cube (i.e. the AW) is FRESH or STALE.
    (3) It allows you to optimize the build of the cube by using FAST MV refresh if you change only a few rows in your fact table.
    (4) It allows the system to rewrite queries against the source tables to access the cube directly.

  • ETL with OWB and Workspace Manager with Analytic Workspace Manager?

I already created my dimensions and cubes with "warehouse builder", as a tables, so can I map them in the dimensions and cubes defined with "analytic workspace manager?
please somone help, becasue I can't found this information on a manual "OLAP application's developers guide".
also, whichis the manual that I have to follow to create things in AWM? i think is this that I use "OLAP application's developers guide"
    Someone can tell me something?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I.m using OWB 10.1.0.4.0 and choosing "Project" then "Metadata Export" and finally "Bridge" I can lanch a wizard that allow me to choose between 3 kind of export.
If you choose OLAP the wizard will ask you which collection of metadata to export and other options, after succesfully running this wizard (which is not so easy) you can open the AWM and see the export of your dimesion and cube iside an AW.
I'm finding lots of problems using this feature due to the limited options I can set to the cube and the dimension (type of aggregations, calculated measures, limit on the number of measures in the cube, etc.).
Waiting for the new OWB Paris if you can post your experience it will be very appreciated.
    Good luck,
    Franco
