Cannot install trial of Captivate 8 due to a previous bad download which won't shut down

Hi, I have tried to shut down a previous bad download of Captivate 8 on my Mac but the installer still will not let me proceed even though I have quit the program and closed in Applications / Activity Monitor. In actiity monitor I select Quit for the Captivate program but it will not quit. What can I do. I am downloading a trial of captivate 8

Sea Swimmer you may want to try rebooting your computer and then try the installation again.  If you are being prompted to close Captivate files it is likely you have downloaded the installation files and are attempting to install the software.  By default the installation files are saved to the download folder for your User account.
If you continue to face difficulties with the download process please see Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant.

  • Cannot install Logic 8 Studio due to lost v7 USB key

I am wondering if someone can point me to the correct Apple support email address to address my problem. I have scoured these boards and can only seem to find email support for iTunes and iPod (sigh).
I have been a Logic user since the early Emagic days and have upgraded to every major version.
I have all my receipts dating back to Logic 5 from Emagic.
I bought the Apple Logic 7.2 crossgrade in February 2006, and the Logic Studio 8 upgrade in September 2007. At the time, my house was being renovated, so things were in boxes and life was in turmoil.
When I got Logic Studio 8, I installed it successfully on my MacBook Pro using the v8 serial number and the USB key.
Now that my renovations are finished and I've moved back into my house, I need to install v8 Studio onto my G5 tower which has been optimized for my music production. When I went to install it, it asked me for either my earlier serial number (none of my old Emagic numbers worked from earlier Emagic receipt emails) or it asked me to insert my USB key from v7 which appears to have been lost in my move (I have turned the house upside down looking for it).
So I am currently stuck. I cannot install v8 Studio and I would like to contact Apple via email with all my receipts and order information to see if there is anything they can do to help me out. I registered both v7.2 and v8 online during the installation process, but unfortunately (unlike Adobe or Native Instruments) there doesn't seem to be anywhere on the Apple site where I can log in to look up serial numbers for previous registrations.
This is really frustrating. I've spent hundreds (maybe thousands) supporting Logic over the years and I'd be really ****** off if I have to go and buy the full version of Logic 8 again.
So, if any can advise me the best path to follow in contacting Apple about this for assistance, I'd certainly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I just got off the phone with Apple support and they were extremely helpful. I explained my situation, and luckily I was armed with every Apple invoice for Logic that I had since it took the product over, and all my earlier emails (circa 2002) with Emagic. I was also 'showing up' in Apple's system so they were able to verify my purchases from my Apple Web Order numbers.
The support agent asked me for my old Emagic XS key number, which I luckily had in a very old email. He then offered me two options: a) I could buy a new Logic 7 dongle for $90, or 2) if I wasn't going to be using Logic 7 anymore, he could generate a new full retail serial number for Logic Studio 1.0 (v8) for me. The latter was my choice, and I do not need to have my old XS key, or any old serial numbers to now install Logic Studio.
I did wait 30 minutes for my call to be answered and about another 10 minutes while the agent went off to check some stuff and generate the new serial number - a small price to pay instead of having to go and buy the whole thing over again!

  • Cannot install trial PE7

System is ECS RS400A, 3ghz P4, 2gb, 500gb/250gb/160gb drives, Nvidia 8400GS, XP Pro SP2. Runs PE2-3-4 like a rock, XP is in good shape, no other "wierd Windows" issues going on, other installs proceed just fine. Son purchased new Samsung flash mem camcorder, and he's used to PE4, in fact more used to it than I am (!) and so naturally wants to stay with it. New cam outputs only MP4 so now we must do "something else" for software, as PE4 wants nothing to do with MP4.
Downloaded and installed trial version code. Ran the small unzipper which correctly unzipped files. Was able to install this code onto a different machine in our network, over the network, without issue. Now trying to install on the downloading machine, and it fails.
Starting at setup.exe, the installer window comes up, I select "english", then proceed, and then after 2 seconds an error dialog box entitled "windows installer version blah blah.." comes up, listing all the various switches available to windows installer, as if the command to installer was wrong.  It exits.
I saw and ran the KB which evidently updates windows installer, but it made no difference.
So, I get the dialog box with the installer switches listed, then it exits and that's all, folks.  Have to confess, have never seen this one before.
I must say, so far I'm not particularly impressed with 7; either on son's 3ghz P4 Asus @2gb, nor my ECS which currently refuses to install. On the Asus, it spends most of its time doing "something" which pegs CPU at 100% for extended periods of time, and performance is quite jumpy and fairly unlikeable overall. But my mission right now is to try it on my ECS to see if it is equally bad there or if it actually works. Or, maybe we have to move on to some other software with MP4 support... thought we've been so happy with PE in the past I hate to leave now.
Are people actually using PE7 successfully?  Don't want to sound "negative" but every so often, things are released that are just useless... so if this is one of them I'd like to cut and run now rather than screw around forever trying to fix everything with patches, reinstalls, mods, etc. etc.  Been there, done that, it's all overrated.
    Thanks for your input.

Ok, I set up a spare disk, installed a quick XP pro to test, installed all the proper drivers, and then installed PE7 again.
This confirmed my earlier problem: upon loading the MP4 clips (total of 3 test clips, 4 minutes total length), the system goes into some sort of huge 100% CPU operation which lasts for A Long Time... it works and works, and slowly the yellow line proceeds through the clips... so after waiting maybe 15 minutes, it appears to be done with that (lots of time for a 4 minute clip), then I tried playing the clips.  Performance is pretty much useless again.  Bear in mind now that we have installed the trial here on 2 completely different machines, each running p4 @3ghz, each 2gb memory, one is an ECS motherboard, one an Asus, and both these system have pretty much flawlessly run everything else we throw at them.  And they both run PE4 quite happily as well, albeit not with MP4 files.
But now they both go into some kind of apoplectic seizure with PE7 attempting to work with the MP4 files we send to it.
This started because we gave our son a new Samsung camera which outputs MP4 files.  Any chance there might be something "wrong" with the MP4 files this things puts out?  Maybe PE7 just isn't happy with them?
Our experience with PE4 and prior was that one could just blithely drag the 'pointer' back and forth in the timeline and the preview window would display frame for frame, wherever you were.  As soon as we try that now, CPU instantly hits 100% and it's dead in the water again until we wait and wait and wait.  It almost feels like there is some sort of perpetual "conversion" going on, frame for frame or something like that.  Very unnerving... unusable, actually.  I'm very intrigued to hear how others are doing with MP4 stuff.
Something is clearly wrong but I have no idea what it might be.  I would think this should have come up before though...
    Clues very much appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Captivate file suddenly unable to record/import/copy and paste - shuts down with error message.

    Hi
I have a project with lots of recording and I am now unable to do any of the following.  Suddenly when I try to:
    add a new recording slide
import a recording slide from another file (one by one)
copy and paste a recording slide from another file
Captivate  freezes and shuts down because it incorporated an error.  Then it tells  me that another instance of captivate is recording and to shut it down  when I re-open it and try to record again. (there isn't another open)
    I have tried:
opening it and renaming it and shrinking the file size, but if I need to do one more recording it freezes on the new file.
opening a new file and recording.  this works, but the problem is that I cannot import or paste the other slides from the original file into the new file to make it complete.  I also cannot import this new recording into my original file to make it complete.
opening the backup and trying to import or record.
saving it under a new name and trying to import or record.
    Any sugestions?

  • IMac G5 iSight won't shut down, won't install updates

    Hi all,
My iMac G5 (iSight) is giving me some grief.
    First, some details:
    OSX 10.5.7
I have been trying to update this machine and have successfully updated a few things, such as iTunes, iLife, etc. Updates that don't require a restart seem to go just fine. I am unable to install updates to QT7, Safari because the installer hangs up while "Configuring Installation" and won't go any further, no matter how long you leave it.
This iMac also will not shut down. The finder icons disappear, the desktop image remains, and the grey spinning wheel goes on and it will simply not shut down until forced using the power button.
It is starting and functioning otherwise with no problems.
I have disconnected it from drives and and the network in case there was something on the network keeping it, but no luck. I have run Disk Utility and repaired permissions, reset the PRAM and the SMU, as well. No joy. Incidentally, my partner's MacBook Air is also having the exact same problem as this iMac (I posted as well in the MBA forums), but my own laptop, the one I'm using now (details below) is having no problem at all and all updates have taken.
Has anyone any suggestions about anything else I can try to clear this issue before I ring Applecare tomorrow?
    Many thanks!

    Hi Miriam,
I've just tried to run a Hardware Test but the disk is clearly from an older iMac I once had (pre-iSight) because it doesn't want to know about it. I have doubts about it being a logic board problem, however, because I'm having the same problems with a MacBook Air (but not my MacBook Pro) and it only started after a recent round of updates. Worrying, yes, but apart from not installing updates that require a restart or simply shutting down both machines seem to be performing perfectly. It's a bit confusing.
    Thanks!

  • My Macbook Pro won't shut down after installing Lion.  Anyone have a suggestion to fix this?

Just installed Lion, and it won't shutdown!
The only way it'll shut down is if it drains the battery.
    Help!
    J

Lots of other people are complaining about their Macs taking long times to shutdown. Some solved it by reinstalling Lion from scratch (without using a Time Machine backup and simply copying all their files on to the new install).
Others discovered old software that is no longer compatible with Lion (I found Mac The Ripper in mine, plus many others on day 1). I uninstalled some apps using App Cleaner (google it, it's free and it's awesome).
I was having a hard time shutting down my macbook pro, now it's back to normal.
Try finding applications that are not compatible with Lion. Their icons should be greyed out and with a diagonal line crossing it. Make sure you erase these applications and library related files, which is very simple if you use App Cleaner. And make sure you look into sub-folders inside the Applications folder, as I missed a couple because they were not immediately visible.
Hope it helps. If it does, let us know.

  • Macbook Pro won't shut down after installing Yosemite

    Hi,
I just finished installing Yosemite on my Macbook Pro. It's fairly new, the last version with a DVD drive but without retina display (I bought it in May 2014 and it's my first Mac).
I installed Yosemite, updated all my applications from the App Store and tried to shut it down from the Finder but the screen just freezes on a black screen wth the pointer showing and then I to shut it down using the power button which I hate doing.
I turned on FireVault after set up and that is busy encrypting could that be causing this? I did check online and it says you can put your Mac to sleep or shut it down while this is happening, but I haven't been able to. Any tips would be great.

I had the same problem and just fixed it.
    What I did:
    - Launch Disk Utility > Select Macintosh HD > Verify Disk
Let the Verify run until it's done
    - If you are seeing any error try the Repair disk
It's possible you need to restart (holding cmd+r while restarting)
    - Next I did a verify disk permissions and a repair disk permissions
    - reboot
After this the shutdown issue was gone!
Hope this solves your problem as well.

  • I suddenly cannot open my mailbox AND my computer won't shut down because the mailbox is open - it won't open OR close!

  • RMBP 15 won't shut down or restart - cannot update software

    Hi,
For about the last 3 months I've been unable to shut down or restart my Macbook Pro (retina) 15", OS version 10.8.2.  Additionally, selecting 'Restart' or 'Shutdown' from either the Apple menu or when an application wants to complete in update still results in the system doing nothing.  I've left it overnight after selecting 'Shutdown' from a menu and it's been running in the morning - so definitely not a slow shutdown problem.
I have gone through the recovery mode process to reinstall the OS, repaired disk permissions, run a Safe Boot, run Onyx and a number of other things.  I even removed the com.apple.dock.plist and .dock files as suggested elsewhere (I have many of the lsboxd messages in my console), I even disabled the notification center... but the problem persists.
I was running Sophos AV for a while and removing this didn't seem to improve the 'unable to shut down' issue, but I am no longer experiencing system freezes every 2-3 days.
I haven't found many helpful events in the Console.  I did check the install.log, and I have the following event each time I select 'Restart' to apply an App Store update:
SUAppStoreUpdateController: prepare for root mode with 041-xxxx...
It seems that usually I can 'sudo reboot', however there are times when the system is unresponsive even to this so I end up having to hard power-off using the button.
I have also been unable to get Boot Camp to work despite following the apple.com support manual - a bootcamp partition is mounted in OSX but I am unable to select it to install Win7 or boot to it.
As I don't live near an Apple store my options to visit a genius bar are limited.  It is frustrating that not only is Mountain Lion on the rMBP considerably slower to boot or recover from sleep than Lion on my 2011 MBP13, but I'm now unable to update any software that may fix the issues I am having.
Are there any suggestions as to how I may be able to resolve this problem?  Has anyone experienced something similar?
I would be most grateful for any assistance.
    Thanks,
    Discom

    Hi softwater,
Thank you for the suggestion.  I haven't looked into Carbon Copy Cloner previously, I'll check it out.
I'll see what I can do about getting to a store.  I've only just had the MBP13 get a logic board replacement, for which it had to be in store for a week, so I'll have to make plans to move data around so I can keep working while it's out of action.
I won't be able to take it to a store for at least another week, so if anyone else has an (unlikely) solution in the meantime I'd be very appreciative!
    Thanks

  • Cannot install trial: prerelease version

    Hi
I'm on OS Lion and on my Mac I have already installed a licensed CS Web Premium 5.5.
Now I'd like to try out Flash Professional 6 and Flash Builder 4.6. I've downloaded the two separate trial packages but when I run them, both of them will say "A prerelease version of the product is already installed" and doesn't install anything.
Now, I cannot uninstall the CS 5.5 because it's the one I have the license for and I need to work on my current projects without altering their development environment etc.
Is there a way to install the trial AND preserving my current adobe products?
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Jeff,
I'm on Mac OS X 10.7.4 and I didn't remove anything since I'm not sure what I should remove.
I don't think there is a beta installed previously but on this Mac there are the CS4 and CS5.5 web premium installed. To be honest I cannot be 100% sure there are no beta installed. Unfortunately the error message shown in the trial gives no specific clues.
Is there a tool I can use to assess precisely which adobe products are installed?
    Thank you

  • Cannot install Trial version of PP CS4

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I haven't heard back from Adobe support. I'm trying to install the trial version of Premiere Pro CS4 and every time it gets to the point where it's installing Media Encoder, an installation error message pops up and says Premiere Pro and Encore could not install and gives me the option to continue or quit. If I look at the error message it says Adobe Media Encoder: 1603 fatal error. Not matter what I try I cannot get this to install. I've uninstalled virus protection. I'm running XP SP3 with plenty of drive space and RAM. this has happened on two different computers. I've got Creative Suite CS3 installed. Anyone have any ideas I can try?

    Fix 1:
After installing the software, run Xcelsius once under the administrative user who installed the software. This user will be prompted to enter the keycode and has permissions to write the keycode to the registry. Non-administrators can read the registry key and run Xcelsius.
    Fix 2:
Logon to the machine with administrator rights.
Run regedit and go to the key u201CHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEu2013> SOFTWARE u2013> Business Objects u2013> Suite 12.0
Right click on Suite 12.0 and choose Permissions.
Grant Full Control to the Users group for this key.
Non-administrators can now write to the key and enter the keycode themselves.

  • Cannot install trial PS CS3 : "Please insert Illustrator CS3 to continue installation"

    Hi,
For school I need the Flash CS3, Illustrator CS3 and Photoshop CS3 software,
My teacher said it was convenient to DOWNLOAD and install the trial-software this weekend, so we can start the lessons properly on monday. Next week we will receive the keys to activate the software.
Now I have installed Flash and Illustrator, but when I try to install the Photoshop software, I get this :
    http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/1808/afbeelding1yd5.png
The setup asks to insert the Illustrator CS3, but I don't have this because I downloaded the trial-software from the Adobe website..
Can anyone tell me what to do?
    Thanks!
    Mattias

    Mattias,
First, I've never done trial downloads of any CS3 content. But there is no reason why a standalone version of Photoshop should be dependent upon installation of another Adobe application. Sounds like something is scrambled here.
But, something else comes to mind. What kind of licensing is this? Where is your teacher getting activation keys for the software?
    Neil
