Cannot move public folders due to migration mailbox already being migrated...

Environment. Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013
All mailboxes including arbitration mailboxes have been moved to Exchange 2013. No mailboxes exist any longer on Exchange 2007.
I am trying to use the steps here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx to move the public folders. I get stuck on step 5
New-PublicFolderMigrationRequest -SourceDatabase (Get-PublicFolderDatabase -Server <Source server name>) -CSVData (Get-Content <Folder to mailbox map path> -Encoding Byte) -BadItemLimit $BadItemLimitCount
This fails with:
FailureCode : -2146233088
FailureType : DataValidationException
I ran the Fix-alias.ps1 script found here:

Not sure what to try next. I thought about recreating the account by doing what is listed here, but haven't tried it yet.

  • Cannot expand public folders in Outlook but can in OWA

    Hi All,
I have a problem which I hope some one might be able to shed some light on. Firstly, the environment is Exchange 2010 (v 14.01.0438.000) and all clients use Outlook 2007. We have one user in the organisation who recently noticed that he cannot expand public
folders. He had been able to do so a couple of months back but could not pin point the time it stopped working. The error received reads :-
"Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed."
I thought that this might be a permissions issue but this particular user can access the public folders via OWA. Also, my AD account was a copy of this user's and I can access public folders without issue.
I have tried the following so far :-
Tried running Outlook in safe mode
    Tried recreating the Outlook profile.
Tried creating a new Outlook profile on a different client PC.
Tried running Outlook in cached an online modes.
Ran Exchange BPA and found no issues.
Checked ADSIedit for old administrative groups left over from past migrations.
used the test-outlook connectivity cmdlet from powershell which ran it's tests successfully.
This user originally set up all the public folders and was still listed as the owner of all of them.
Tried creating a new public folder.
Checked for an Outlook update that had caused a similar issue.
All the above failed to progress the situation. I have come across posts online that sound very similar, one stated that a Microsoft tech had found a permission that wasn't correct but didn't list which permission and the other related to an update to Outlook
that had triggered it. I can confirm it's not the update and I have checked permissions in the public folder management utility in Exchange. Also, my AD account is a copy of his and I can access the folders without issue.
I have also considered what may have changed on the network recently. The only major change has been a new admin password but I cannot see how that would be relevant.
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

Hello John: We are having the exact same issue. Thank you for the great description, it hits the nail on the head for an issue that is tough to explain.   Did rebuilding the mailbox fix the problem? We thought a next step would be to create a new
AD profile for the user all together,  although replacing the user herself would be easier for us. She obviously caused this problem and will most likely cause us more problems that might be worse if she keeps clicking and sliding on every thing that
is shiny to see what it does..
I can only surmise that CaRa ChEn has decided to "better understand customer views on social support experience" elsewhere.  I think the only logic for the mailbox suggestion would be "grasping for straws" and it is the only thing you have not tried
so far.  (Other than replacing the user).  Pactera employees get points for being the first to reply to a question and the first to have a suggestion marked as helpful as well as the sheer quantity of replies to the forums that are made.  High
value is placed on moving posts to different forums as well so I thought I would ask quick before the thread gets shoveled somewhere else..  If she needs help with the interview project she can find plenty of my thoughts here in the community.
Thanks again, and we will reply back if replacing the user (account) does NOT solve the problem, otherwise one can assume we are happy campers again our new employee and remember just because it is blinking does not mean you should click on it.  :)
    Best regards,
    RickkEE

  • Exchange 2013 Public Folders - Adding another PF mailbox

    Hi,
I'm sure this is obvious, but I've looked and can't find anything.
We're in the process of completing a cross forest migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 on premise. We've migrated PF content (using a third party app) and we're currently at around 90% of the quota for the first PF mailbox (PFMAILBOX1). My question
is, how do we start using the second mailbox (PFMAILBOX2 in this case)? Does it just roll over when it breaches the PF quota?
PFMAILBOX1 has the primary hierarchy and PFMAILBOX2 has secondary - not sure if this makes any difference?
    As usual, any help appreciated.
    Regards
    Steve

    Hello,
You can use New-PublicFolderMoveRequest to move Public Folders to new mailbox (single folder, folder tree etc). For further informations look at:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj878081%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx.

  • Exchange 2013 User cannot view public folders

    Good morning,
User was able to view public folders, then lost connection to public folders.  User cannot view public folders in OWA.
Verified proper permissions.   No changes have been made to the user account in AD, exchange.

Did you do a fresh install of Exchange, meaning there was no version of Exchange installed previously? If not, have you moved Public Folders over to Exchange 2013 yet?  If the answer to this question is no, then you will not be able to view Public
Folders in OWA until they are migrated over Exchange 2013.

  • How to migrate public folders to new shared mailbox & Mailboximprotrequesthelp.

hi i have several public folders stored within the exchange mailbox database, i am wanting to migrate over to shared mailbox's as i find them easier to look after.
i already have mail flowing to the new shared mailbox's so nothing goes to the public folders as i disabled mail-enabled
what i now want to do is take all of the old emails and import them into the shared mailbox's.
i can do it via PST export in outlook and mailboximportrequest, this works but it creates an odd folder structure, if i use the following command it creates the folder IPM_SUBTREE folder in testmove inbox then in the IPM_SUBTREE folder is the inbox that
contains the emails so it goes Testmove > inbox > IPM_SUBTREE > inbox > emails
New-MailboxImportRequest -Mailbox testmove -FilePath "\\exchangeserver\publicfolders\testmove.pst" -TargetRootFolder "inbox" -Verbose
is there a way of either cleaning up the folder structure or another way around doing the import / export as this seems a bit of a messy way of doing it, considering when i do the real public folders they have emails going back to 2010 so thousands and thousands
    of them.
    Many Thanks

  • Outlook - One user cannot expand public folders

I have one user who is having an issue with expanding Public Folders.  They are the only one in their area who cannot expand it and I'm running out of troubleshooting steps.  Here is a list of what I've tried/found for this issue.  The Public
Folders are on Exchange 2007 and we have our mailboxes on Exchange 2013.  Outlook version is 2010.  This also does not work in our Citrix environment either.
    Repaired email account
    Removed/re-added Outlook profile
    Log off/log on
    Reboot PC
Confirmed that she can’t get to them in Citrix either
Checked the Outlook connection status, no Public Folders connection is listed there.
    Rebooted the Public Folder server.
Removed/re-added PF permissions AD groups, log off/log
Move the mailbox do a different mailbox database
RPC Client Access service is running on the mailbox server
I am pretty much at a loss here and I am not sure what else to do.  Thanks!

    Hi,
From your description, only one user can't expand public folders in Exchange 2007 after you migrate users to Exchange 2013.
Could this user send or receive message normally?
Please use the Test E-mail Autoconfiguration to check result, compare with other normal users to see if there is any difference.

  • Manually Move Public Folders from Exchange 2010 to 2013

    Hi all,
I have a issue to finishing my migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, I have been trying to migrate my Public folders but always after a couple hours, the migration state is failed.
The final error is the following:
    FailureCode                      : -2146233088
    FailureType                      : SourceMailboxAlreadyBeingMovedPermanentException
    FailureSide                      :
Message                          : Error: Couldn't switch the mailbox into Sync Source mode.
This could be because of one of the following reasons:
                                         Another administrator is currently moving
    the mailbox.
                                         The mailbox is locked.
                                         The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication
service (MRS) doesn't have the correct
                                       permissions.
Network errors are preventing MRS from cleanly
    closing its session with the
Mailbox server. If this is the case, MRS may continue
    to encounter this error for
up to 2 hours - this duration is controlled by the TCP
    KeepAlive settings on the
                                       Mailbox server.
Wait for the mailbox to be released before attempting
    to move this mailbox again.
So, after seeing this I started to monitoring all process and I realized that after creating hierarchy the process start to fail and keep in StalledDueMailboxlock status, and the error is:
    FailureCode                      :
    FailureType                      :
    FailureSide                      :
Message                          : Informational: The request has been temporarily postponed because the mailbox is
locked. The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service
    will attempt to continue
processing the request after 2/14/2015 12:38:20 PM.
Finally, digging more into reports of migration I  found this:

So, would like to know if exist any procedure to migrate/move my Public Folders from Exchange 2010 to 2013 manually, something like Export/Import.

What script and process you are running to migrate the Public Folders?
And what do you mean by Manually?

  • Move Public Folders Database to another Drive on same server - Exchange 2010

Hello all and thanks for your time and expertise.
We recently added a new drive to our Exchange 2010 server.  I've moved all mailboxes including arbitration mailboxes to this new drive (and new mailbox database).  I guess the last remaining step is to move the public folders databse to this new
drive.  I know in the console I can move the database path and the log files path for the public folders database.  Is this all I have to do to move my public folders successfully.
And then once everything is moved - can I safely remove the old mailbox database?
Your help and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    Mike,
I moved the public folders database and received the following message:
    "Summary: 1 item(s). 1 succeeded, 0 failed.
    Elapsed time: 00:00:16
    Public Folders
    Completed
    Warning:
The task completed successfully, but the database "Public Folders" cannot be restored.
The exception message is "An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: Unable to mount database 'Public Folders'.
The database appears to have been mounted at least once since its creation,
but there is no database file at 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders\Public Folders.edb'. Either recover the database file from a backup,
or mount the database with a new, empty database by using the Mount-Database cmdlet with the -Force parameter.. [Database: Public Folders, Server: *******.***]".
    Exchange Management Shell command completed:
    move-DatabasePath -Identity 'Public Folders' -EdbFilePath 'g:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders\Public Folders.edb' -LogFolderPath 'g:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders'
    Elapsed Time: 00:00:16"
I blanked out the server name.
After I clicked off this message I remounted the public folders database and everything relative to the public folders seems to be working fine.  Did this message occur because exchange was trying to mount the public folders database from its old location
and so I can safely move on with my life.  Just wanted to double check with you.
And once everything has been moved from the old mailbox database such as user mailboxes, arbitration mailboxes - can I safely remove the old mailbox database.  Thanks for your help.

  • Cannot Move Files/Folders on Desktop

One of the Mac Pros in my computer lab suddenly developed a strange behavior: I can't move any of the file or folder icons on the desktop, nor can I drag files/folders between windows or columns. They don't snap back to their original position; they won't move at all.
I can select the icons on the desktop and in windows, but cannot move them. This behavior is the same in my Admin account and a restricted student account.
I've repaired permissions with Disk Utility, and run Onyx (Optimize The System; Execute Maintenance Scripts; Clear: Application, Internet, Font and System Cache; Clean Recent and Temporary Items). I've relaunched the Finder several times, and zapped the PRAM. Restarting doesn't help.
    Anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,
    Robert

Oh, well this is very much more serious than a permissions problem. I would tell you to Repair your disk, but
I can Safe Boot and choose either account. Except for the non-moving icons, the machine seems to run fine.
A Safe Boot automatically runs Repair Disk as many times as needed to fix things. Trying to start from the Install disc gives you a kernel panic, and yet you are able to Safe Boot? I don't know what could cause this.
After a Safe Boot, and in my Admin account, can I affect the changes you suggest when starting from the Install disk?
Well, not by the method I initially suggested, but you can using Terminal. But I see no point in doing that—you really need to fix the kernel panics.
However, as a temporary thing, try this.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window, one line at a time, with a return after each line:
    chmod -R -N .
chmod +a "everyone deny delete" . Desktop Documents Downloads Library Movies Music Pictures Public Sites
    chmod +a "`id -un` allow list,addfile,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,chown,file_inherit,directoryinherit" Public/Drop Box
That will fix things for the account you have logged in with. If you need to fix the other one, you must repeat while logged in to that account

Please explain the sentence "The user moved from exchange 2010 to 2013 cannot access public folder on exchange 2010". Do you mean the moved user can't see the public folder or the user has no permission to see the public folder?
If the moved user can't see the public folder, please check if the moved user can see the public folder via owa. When you use outlook to view public folder, you can following the method: Open outlook, click folder list at the bottom of left panel.
If the user has no permission to see the public folder, please check the permission.
     =============================================================
    1. Open ADSIEDIT.
    2. Navigation to CN=Configuration, DC=Your domain name -> CN=Services ->CN=Microsoft Exchange ->CN=Your organization name ->CN=Administrative Groups ->CN=Exchange
Administrative Group ->CN=Databases ->CN= PF Database.
    3. Right-click the PF Database, and then select Properties. Under Security, check if everyone has read permission.
Besides, please check if public folder replication is ok. You can use Get-PublicFolderStatistics cmdlet to compare item count, size.

  • Outlook 2007 on Terminal Server cannot manage Public Folder Favorites after Migration to Exchange 2013

    Hi,
we are running a Server 2008 R2 as a Terminal Server with Outlook 2007 SP3 (incl Nov 2012 Update 12.0.6665.5000) which is known as fully supported with Exchange 2013.
With Exchange Server 2007 we did not have any issues. But after having successfully migrated to Exchange 2013 we cannot manage our public folders favorites from these clients anymore.
As we are running Outlook 2007 on a WTS we can not use Exchange Cache Mode and so we can also not download Public-Folders-Favorites as an option. Whenever we try to delete existing favorites or when we try to delete public folders with content or subfolders
there will be an error msg that says that it cannot be deleted and that there may be no sufficient permissions. But this IS NOT the issue NOR the solution as I have full admin rights and am owner of the public folders.
On single fat clients with Outlook 2007 with Exchange Cache Mode enabled we can manage the favorites and the public folders without problem.
We need to be able to manage the favorites of all users (circa 50-60 users) from the WTS with Outlookm 2007. I have no more ideas right now. Does anyone know how to get this settled?
    Thanks, Paula

    Hi,
Based on the description, users could access public folders successfully, but when they tried to manage public folder favorites or wanted to remove specified folders, they got error message of no sufficient permissions.
     Is it right?
You mentioned on single fat clients with Outlook 2007 with Exchange Cache Mode enabled, user can operate normally. Is this a WTS with Outlook 2007 installed?
If possible, please switch this Outlook client from cached mode to online mode to check result.
    Best regards,

  • Move public folders, 2010 to 2010, no replication, it seems

Exchange 2010, trying to movepublic folder database from old server to new server. I used AddReplicasToPFRecursive.ps1 to add "new2010" to each folder, and now if I open the Public Folder Management Console on "old2010," I see both
old2010 and new2010 listed as replicas. In the EMS, Get-PublicFolder -recurse | fl Name,Replicas also shows all folders with both.
But on new2010, the Public Folder Management Console doesn't show any "Default Public Folders," and the EMS command responds only with IPM_SUBTREE.  Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server old2010 -resultsize unlimited shows all folders; Get-PublicFolderStatistics
-Server new2010 -resultsize unlimited shows none.  If I change the default public folder database of the mailbox databases on new2010, the Public Folders all disappear from my Outlook installation, and come back if/when I reverse that.
I checked replication schedule - it says replicate always.  The actual files for the PF database on new2010 exist, and have recent timestamps and are about half the size of the database files on old2010.
Why wouldn't the data be replicating?  What do I look for in logs?

    Hi,
Is there any error logs on the new server?
In addition,What is your exchange 2010 version?
I find some articles might help you:
