Cannot open Google search results in tab\same window\new window
Google search results are not opening in the new tab\same window\new window.<br />
It is happening only in Firefox, Internet explorer. It is working fine in chrome.<br />
I have tried many solutions like<br />
1. cleared cache, history,everything from browser's, still no result.<br />
2. opened in safe mode, no result.<br />
3. unchecked hardware acceleration, still no result.<br />
4. Other search engines it is working fine, only problem with Google search engine.<br />
5. Tried changing my DNS (Google open DNS, others), no result.<br />
6. Checked with antivirus blocking, nothing is blocking.<br />
7. Reinstalled browsers(Firefox, explorer) no result.<br />
8. Tried with different versions of browsers, including the latest updates ( Firefox,explorer), no result.<br />
9. while disabling Java in about:config it is working in Firefox.<br />
Please help me on this issue.<br />
Thanks in advance.
Google normally routs the result link to their safe browsing testing service via an onmousedown event that modifies the link (href attribute) if you click it once.
You can check if this bookmarklet makes a difference:
<pre><nowiki>javascript:(function(){var e=document.querySelectorAll('#search a[onmousedown]'),E,i;for(i=0;E=e[i];i++){E.removeAttribute('onmousedown')}})()</nowiki></pre>
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Search Results in the Same Window..as we have in SDN
Hello Gurus,
I want the search results to be displayed exactly like we have in SDN. I mean search result should be displayed in the same window rather than opening a new window. Also when click on a document that document should open in the same window.
Please help in this.
VHello, we want to implement this functionality as well.
We are on Portal 6.0 SP15.
Ive already modified the ToolAreaIview.jsp to right align the search input box and redeployed the portal archive as a new portal archive to our system. Ive created a new iview off this portal archive and the search box is right aligned. Works great.
Now we want the search results to appear in the content area iframe? in the same manner as the search results at SDN. I followed the instructions as kindly outlined by Vaibhav. I removed the old var searchURL= and window.open code. My Toolareaivew.jsp now contains this in the function openSearch():
var searchURL= "http://"location.hostname":50000""<%=url%>" QueryString;
EPCM.raiseEvent('urn:com.ourcompany','searchResult', searchURL );
I redeployed the par file to the portal and created a new search iview based on this code.
I can see the javascript modifications in my browser when I go to view -> source.
I can event take the variable searchURL thats displayed in the source and paste it into my browser and the URL seems to be correct. I then modified the com.sap.portal.navigation.contentarea.par -> workarea.jsp and put in this code:
// Search Result set
function handle_searchResult_Event( eventObj ) {
self.location.href = eventObj.dataObject;
EPCM.subscribeEvent('urn:com.ourcompany','searchResult', handle_searchResult_Event);
I saved the par file with the same sap name com.sap.portal.navigation.contentarea.par and redeployed it to the portal. Now when I search on this newly created iview, it appears this event is not being raised as nothing happens. I have further read that I may want to rename the .jsp from workarea.jsp to something else. So I saved workarea.jsp as workarea_new.jsp and redeployed the par file. Still nothing happens during the search. I have even stopped /restarted the portal but still no luck.
Could anyone provide any hints at what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance. -
Cannot open Yahoo searches in a new tab
When I do a Yahoo search and attempt to open a search result in a new tab, I get "You have chosen to open and application/octet-stream" and it opens an "Untitled" tab.
I can avoid this error by simply clicking on the search result in the same window.
This has just started in the past two days and is generally Yahoo specific. I don't have this problem with Google, but I don't normally use Google.
Similar Mozilla error have been reported in the past, but not exactly like this error.
No recent or significant changes in my OS or PC configurationIn my case it was the greasemonkey addon. Once i've desable it, everything went right. Thanks for that hint!

Hello,
When I use Google in the search bar, I have to open the search results in a new tab. If I simply click on them to open in the current tab, I'm inevitably redirected right back to the main Google site. This has only started happening in the past month or two -- I'm considering switching to Chrome after 5 years with Firefox because of this. Please help! It's incredibly frustrating to consistently have to remind myself to open all search results in a new tab. It's quite a waste of time over the course of a day.
Here are the basic steps:
1) I do a search using Google in the search bar.
2) As is supposed to happen, the search returns results in the current tab.
3) When I click on a result link, I'm immediately sent back to www.google.com.
4) If I hit back to try to return to the search results, I'm taken to the page that was loaded BEFORE I even did the search.
5) If, and only if, I instead right-click or Mouse3 click on the search results and open them in a new tab, I can successfully go to the search result pages.

Google search results won't open automatically new tab in firefox 6.0.2
Clicking on google search results won't open automatically new tabs in firefox 6.0.2, although it was working until today!
Did you check the Google settings via the gear icon at the top left of the Google site to make sure that you still have selected that feature?

Google search results won't open in a new window
I like to have Google search results open in a new tab and, until recently, using Google's settings allowed me to do that. But now if I click a lik in search results, it opens the page in the same window. In other words, FF "refuses" to obey Google's preferences.
Firefox should divert the new window to a new tab when you check this box in Google's Search Settings:
"Open search results in a new browser window"
I can't think of any reason for Firefox to divert a new window back into ''the same tab''.
In case one of your add-ons is the culprit, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode?
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox using Help>Restart with Add-ons Disabled. Don't check any of the boxes in the [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] dialog, just Continue in Safe Mode.
Does it make any difference? -
Stop Firefox from reverting back to Google Search Results when opening a page from results list
When I click on one of the results from a Google search, I have it open the page in a new window. The page opens in the new window just fine, but instead of letting me view the page in the new window, Firefox takes me back to the Google Search results page. I am able to click on the new window and view the page that I chose, but it gets old being sent back to the search results each time I click on one of them and attempt to view it.
This happens on my work PC, home laptop, and my desktop at home as well. I have different versions running on each machine, and home laptop has the latest version of Firefox. I have searched the web and cannot find anyone having this same problem, much less a resolution, so I will ask here.
I hope this makes sense, if more info is needed please let me know.
Thanks to anyone that can help.One reason for this can be if the new window contains Flash media, but Flash hasn't been used for several minutes, the Adobe protected mode feature changes the order of the windows. This is a bug that Adobe has yet to fix. This thread describes the problem in more details and lists the known workarounds: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/955659 Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash].
If you rule out the Flash issue, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
Any difference? -
Intermittently some "Marketplace.com" "net shoppers.com" website will open it's results when I try and click on any Google search result!!! arrggg!
how do I block the dang site from doing what it's doing?Your issue may be caused by Malware. You can run and update the following __free__ anti virus software:
1. Malwarebytes (Free version) - http://www.malwarebytes.org
2. Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org
3.Spyware Terminator - http://www.spywareterminator.com

When I am on some pages, clicking on a article/picture link opens a new tab instead of continuing in the same window. By staying in the same window, I can back click on my mouse and continue on with other reading/links on the original page without manually having to move the mouse and click to close the tab. For example: on news pages, if I click on a financial article, a new tab opens with that linked article on the website's financial site. If I keep going back to the original page w/o closing tabs, I end up with too many tabs open.
yeah, instead of using multiple windows, you can use multiple tabs inside one window. That way, you can browse multiple websites at once without having to flick back and forth between multiple windows.
To open tabs of the websites you want to browse, just right-hand click on whatever website you want to visit (For example a site from your bookmarks or a site from a Google search result) and select 'open link in tab'. -
Hi,
First time poster and very non-techy person here. I am being redirected to urls starting "uk.gomeo..." when clicking on Google search results in Safari. Quick search on this seems to suggest I have a virus. Not sure what to do or how to get rid of it. Not sure what could have caused it either. Downloaded Acrobat update couple of days ago which took hours, and Twitter account was hacked about a week ago. All software updates up to date. Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks.Sorry editing that way doesn't work anymore in Lion. But you can look and see if there are any google entries in it. If there are not any google entries you can ignore my posts. If there are try this:
Open terminal
sudo nano /etc/hosts
When prompted for the sudo password - The correct password is your own (the password of the user logged into OS X, also the password you provide when doing system updates and so on).
now you can delete the line(s) that contain google and save.
Using your arrow keys go to the line containing google. Delete the line. Do the same for all lines containig google.
if you have a problem deleting, do a control-x to exit, and reply n to the modified buffer question. To save your changes do a control-o and hit enter , then do a control-x to quit.
Note: normally you never edit the hosts file, but if you see google entries in it then a malware programs has added them. It has been happening with a bogus flash update, that installs flash and asks for your system password. SOmething that seem quite normal when installing software. This bogus flash update makes the hosts modifications adding their own IP adrress for google. -
891 firewall - Can't click Google search results
Just setting up and testing a Cisco 891-K9 router. Used CCP for basic setup, figure I'll tweak any settings needed later.
For the firewall, I chose the default "medium" security setting in CCP, then added some holes (already setup in NAT) for outside access in.
Now on to the real question:
I noticed that I am now unable to click through google search results. On any borwser. Clicking on any search result simply loops back around to the same google search page. If I disable Javascript on the browser, everything works as expected. So it appears that the firewall is preventing something in google's scripts from redirecting and "clicking through" to the final destination page.
I'm familiar with our old Pix firewall commands, but still a relative newcomer to the zone based firewall and commands for this new 891, so any help would be appreciated! (relevant Config pasted below) (Gi0 is the WAN interface)

Google Search Results keep freezing Safari in iOS 8
I have an iPad Air that is only 30% full, and a good wifi connection. Ever since is updated to ios8 and subsequent updates, my Safari browser will often (but not always) freeze after a Google search. All of the Google search result links will be unresponsive, and will not even respond after I refresh the page. It will require me to close the tab, restart Safari and repeat the Google search. It has been happening for quite awhile. I can quit out of all apps, restart my iPad, close all other tabs in Safari, and still have the problem. Unlike another poster who had the same problem, I do not have any third-party blockers on my iPad, nor have I ever had them.
This his is only one of several glitches I have experienced with iOS 8.If you didn't do a clean install of your system, you might want to try that. Here is a troubleshooting methodology I gave for another thread ...
Follow this procedure for a Troubleshooting Methodology ... basically reset to factory default condition -BUT- be sure to do the following methodically and also to follow the part with Apple Support!
First you want to make sure you have several backups of your data and done with a couple of "different" sources. Be sure to understand what data is backed up and what is NOT on iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup. Use a variety of methods for backup ... you might check into Dropbox, in addition to your Apple options.
Then turn off your desktop anti-virus software when using iTunes for this reset to factory default. After you do that reset, then leave your iPad in its factory default state and see how it operates then. If you encounter any problems in that factory default state, then take it to Apple Support, and let them know that you have just reset it to that state with iTunes and have not put any of your data back on and it is operating in this fashion (whatever the problem is) in that pristine state. Make sure you keep that trouble ticket number, because if it has to be escalated through Apple Support, you're going to find all communications tied in with that number. If the lower level help isn't able to help you, then escalate it to a higher level to examine the problem. Keep at it with that trouble ticket number until Apple Support arrives at a solution to that problem. Be methodical and keep at it.
On the other hand, if everything is okay with the factory default condition, then restore your backup. Some people have discovered that the problem resides in the apps or something in the restored backup. If that's the case, then it's going to be trying and difficult to find out which developer's app is causing you the problem. And ... it's true ... that a developer not following Apple's instructions and guidelines for his app can CAUSE YOU TROUBLE. This kind of thing does happen from developers, especially when a new system upgrade comes out, because some developers ignore what Apple tells them about changes coming, and what they do BREAKS SOMETHING.
This is a troubleshooting methodology that you are going through. See it through to the end.

Google search results link back to Google's front page
My Firefox 9.01 under Ubuntu Linux 10.04 seems to have a problem with the links in the results (hits) from Google. When I click on a link, I am directed to Google's front page.
Example:
I enter the search phrase 'occupy wall street demands' into Google Search. One of the hits I get is Wikipedia's entry on Occupy Wall Street. The URL is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupy_Wall_Street
When I click on this hit, I come to a page with this URL:
http://www.google.com/webhp?emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ei=oAosT9jsCcL64QS2xLCrDg
which shows Google's front page.
However, if I right click on the link ans select "Open link in new window", then Firefox correctly opens the new window with the Wikipedia article.
Other browser on my computer does not have the same problem. I have also emptied Firefox's cache and it did not solve the problem.
What's going on here?I noticed this happens less often (or not at all, maybe) when you are not logged in with your Google account. Are you logged in to Google, or maybe Google+ even?
When I'm logged in to Google+ and click a search result after using the searchbar in Firefox, I get to see the Google homepage. Clicking the Back button brings me to the page I visited before using the search bar, not back to the search results.
It's definitely an annoying workaround to log out just to be able to click search results, but it could help isolating the problem.
Also, you can open the search results by middle-clicking them and opening them in a new link. Not a solution either, but less annoying than restarting the browser. ;) -
I see google search results, scroll down and they vanish. Why?
All of a sudden when I am using Firefox I get a list of Google search results, scroll down and poof I see only a blank page. What's going on?
Hello jpachner,
Does this happen only in Google or have you noticed it any other web pages? Most of these issues could be because of some plugins or configuration changes.
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, quit the Firefox (not just closing the window) and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem. -
Google Search Result Window Duplicating
Just recently at home and work computers (iMac G4s, OS 10.4.2 and Safari 2.0) Google search windows are duplicating. I have Google prefs set to open search results in new browser windows and when it does it now changes the 'back' window that has the Google search to display the same as the window with the results. This doesn't happen if I open the 'results' window behind the Google search window (Apple-Option-click) instead of in front of the search window (click). Weird.
Gets more interesting.
It seems to be the way Google has the pages set up. If I click on a main advertizer - the links at the top of the page that are highlighted with a light blue background, or the links on the right side of the page - the new page and the original page behave correctly.
If you click on a link that is in the main area the "Search Window Duplication" thingy happens.
Google has updated it's code recently so my guess is that this is NOT a Safari bug. Hopefully it will get addressed soon.
