Cannot print PDF files on Mac OS X

Hi,
since some update from Reader 8.1 to 8.1.2 I cannot print PDF files anymore. Meanwhile I installed Reader 9, but with no luck.
If I crank up the preferences I get the error "Failed to load an application resource (internal error)." ... maybe there is something wrong with the installation, but even an reinstall doesnt fix it.
If I try to print I get only the message "The document could not be printed" and then "There were no pages selected to print." ... no matter what PDF I try to print.
The Apple Preview works without any problems, so the PDFs should be good.
Can anyone help me on this ... its really frustrating.

I had this same problem. I did a clean install of OS X 10.5.6 to an USB hard drive, installed Adobe Reader 9, and tried printing. It worked fine. Then I cloned the external drive back onto the internal drive and it failed with the same no pages selected problem.
It turns out that my filesystem on my internal hard drive is case sensitive, but the external hard drive had the default case-insensitive file system.
To fix, do this:
Go get yourself an external firewire or usb hard drive at least as big as your internal drive. Plug it in and use Disk Utility.app (under /Applications/Utilities) to Erase it and format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". The download CarbonCopyCloaner, a free utility that can copy an entire drive. Use CCC to clone your Macintosh HD to the external drive.
Now that you have a backup drive, go to System Preferences and choose Startup Disk. Pick the external drive as the the startup drive. Reboot and check that your printing works properly now.
If that fixed your problem, while you are booted from the external drive, use Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD and format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" not "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) case-sensitive". Then use CCC to copy everything back. Reboot.

You can just drag the file to the trash. If you want you can remove the pdf plug-in from the internet-plug in folder, but that should not be necessary to correct your problem.

Assuming you are running 10.10.2 and not the ancient 10.0.2, can you tell us what printer and printer driver you are using? How is the printer connected to the computer (network, usb)? See if you can delete the Reader preference files? Years ago I resetting the printer subsystem would sometimes cure a problem like this.

I fixed this problem. I had to turn off the browser virtualization feature in Zone Alarm Extreme Security. This wiped out all of the Firefox settings, but I had bookmarks, etc. backed up. (answered by original poster)

Cannot open PDF files on Mac

I cannot open PDFs on my Mac but can open the same files on my PC. When I create a PDF from the computer and when I send it to our office printer as a scan-PDF, I cannot open either. Have downloaded Adobe Acrobat, etc., and still waiting for a response from them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Don't use Acrobat, use Preview. Preview is already pre-installed on your computer. If you cannot locate it, type Command-Shift (opens Spotlight) and type in Preview and hit return.

Cannot Print PDF File from IE8 Beta 2

I recently installed Adobe Reader 9 and Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 under Vista 32-bit. When a PDF file appears under IE8, I cannot print the file. The print command shows only a blank page. If I save the PDF file, open Adobe Reader 9 and open this PDF file, I can print the file correctly. Please advise if you have the same issue and possible fixes?

I have a similar problem. I have Adobe Reader 9 and IE8 Beta 2 on Vista Ultimate, and other pdf drivers as well. When I try to print to any pdf driver in IE8 B2 I get "Access Denied" message box, then when I click OK I guest a script error on line 2037, Char 1, unspecified error, code 0, URL: res//ieframe.dll/preview.js. It occurs with all the pdf print drivers I have including ScanSoft PDFCreate, Quicken PDF printer, and DocuCom PDF printer. If I do print preview and then print, there is no response.
Debugging java scripts is more than I want to get into. Any ideas?

Adobe Reader v 11.0.10 cannot print PDF files

My Adobe Reader v11.0.10 running on Windows 8 Pro with Media Center cannot print anymore.
I used to be able to print from Adobe Reader before.
I still can print to all printers using other applications – Word, Excel, Notepad.
I can print a test page on any of my printers without any problems.
I can print PDF files using other PDF viewers (like Foxit reader), but I can’t print from Adobe Reader.
There is no error message on the screen and there is no any error message in the log files.
If I uninstall Adobe Reader and re-install it, then the first time I log on I’ll be able to print once.
But any consecutive attempt to print will fail!
Any ideas what could be the problem?

I go to File --> Print menu.
As I always do.
It used to work before.
I haven't tried "Print as image" option, but I'll try it and post the result!
I will try also unchecking 'Enable Protected Mode at Startup' option under Edit> Preferences> Security (Enhanced)
As I mentioned in my previous post I tried re-installing Adobe Reader - but no luck :

I think that the issue is not the particular file - it has something to do with Adobe Reader itself. Maybe it is corrupted????

Cannot print pdf files with 9.3.1, cannot remove patch

does anyone know how to fix msi problems ? updater says 9.3.1 is more functional than 9.4 what does that mean? does that mean I need to remove 9.3.1 in order to install 9.4 ? All i want out of this is the ability to control what stays and want goes onto my hard drive and the ability to print PDF files like the product claims. I swear as my life advances I will not buy a product from a company that cannot support me with there standard issues of products . offering a free product that malfunctions is not my idea of building a trusting relationship. What's more disturbing is that I talked with Ganesh this morning on adobe chat and know i cannot even register with that email. programs and click remove). I did my backup and downloaded windows installer cleanup from http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html After download when I ran the program to install it, the window that popped up was labled "Microsoft Office Update". When that disappeared I found Windows Installer Cleanup located in the All programs list in start. I clicked it and a window popped up about the size of task manager. I scrolled down and highlighted Adobe 9.3.1 and clicked remove and it removed it and the 9.3.1 unremovable update from the conrol panel. Then I went to Adobe.com , downloads and downloaded Adobe 9.4, installed it, and tested it by printing a PDF file. Before I was scared to mess up my netbook and didn't want to deal with the hassle, but we all have our limits until we start to take these kind of risks into the unknown. sometimes, even though it's a burden to register to umpteen forums, it's that extra hassle that gets you over the edge. Please share this info. ohh yeah, NONE of this was done in safe mode.

MY HP C1025 CANNOT PRINT PDF FILES

Whenever I print PDF Files, my PC cannot detect the newly installed CP1025 Driver. BUT when I print MS word and other MSOffice applications its ok - it can detect my printer. Adobe reader 11.0.5 - cannot print pdf file to network printer

I have a 64 bit HP Pavilion a6230n PC running Windows 7, fully updated. I have wireless connection to a home file/printer server. My printer, a Brother HL-5140, is connected via USB to the file/printer server. All my other Windows programs capable of printing can print on the network printer - all except adobe reader. Adobe Reader sees the printer and all printing processes appear to be sending the file to the printer, however, the printer never gets the document. I've tried printing as a document, in which case the document sits in the printer queue until I delete it. If I send it as an image, each queue entry is deleted after adobe thinks it has printed. Again, nothing ever prints on the printer, and again, no other program running on my computer has any problems printing to this printer.
I would appreciate any help with this problem.
Addendum - 4 Nov 13:
I uninstalled adobe reader 11 and installed a much earlier version, and now I can print pdf files. Clearly the printing issue is with the current versions of adobe reader.

This phenomenon can happen with PDF files that have errors in them. Adobe Reader or Acrobat may be able to fix these errors, but if you close the application, it will ask to save the corrected file. If you save it once, that should no longer occur when you open it again.
This is just one explanation, but it doesn't explain why that happens with every PDF you have.
Test: does it also happen with a PDF that is not supposed to contain any errors: http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/adobe_reader_reference.pdf ?
