Cannot resolve symbol when the classes are in the same package

i have one interface and two classes all in the same package. am getting " cannot resolve symbol", when the code refers to the interface or the class .
the package name is collections.impl and
the directory i used to store all the java files:
c:\jdk\bin\collections\impl.
isthere any othe option other than compiling all the files from the comand line at the same time?
please help - i m new to java.

If you have:
I.java:
package some;
public interface I {
    void method();
}A.java:
package some;
public class A implements I {
    public void method() {
        new B();
}B.java:
package some;
public class B implements I {
    public void method() {
        new A();
}in c:/temp/some for example
you can compile your files with
javac c:/temp/some/*.java
It seems that you have errors in your code.
Recheck it twice or use NetBeans IDE(http://www.netbeans.org) it will do this for you ;)

  • Getting error message Cannot Resolve Symbol when trying to compile a class

    Hello All -
    I am getting an error message cannot resolve symbol while trying to compile a java class that calls another java class in the same package. The called class compiles fine, but the calling class generates
    the following error message:
    D:\Apache Tomcat 4.0\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\cal>javac
    ConnectionPool.java

    The code is listed as follows for PooledConnection.java (it compiles fine)
    package cal;
    import java.sql.*;
    public class PooledConnection {
    // Real JDBC Connection
    private Connection connection = null;
    // boolean flag used to determine if connection is in use

    I am using Sun JDK Version 1.3.0_02" and Apache/Tomcat 4.0. Both the calling and the called class are in the same directory.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    tnx..

    Is ConnectionPool in this "cal" package as well as PooledConnection? From the directory you are compiling from it appears that it is. If it is, then you are compiling it incorrectly. To compile ConnectionPool (and PooledConnection similarly), you must change the current directory to the one that contains cal and type
    javac cal/ConnectionPool.

  • "cannot resolve symbol" when compiling a class that calls methods

    I am currently taking a Intro to Java class. This problem has my instructor baffled. If I have two classes saved in separate files, for example:
    one class might contain the constructor with get and set statements,
    the other class contains the main() method and calls the constructor.
    The first file compiles clean. When I compile the second file, I get the "cannot resolve symbol error" referring to the first class.
    If I copy both files to floppy and take them to school. I can compile and run them with no problem.
    If I copy the constructor file to the second file and delete the "public" from the class declaration of the constructor, it will compile and run at home.
    At home, I am running Windows ME. At school, Windows 2000 Professional.
    The textbook that we are using came with a CD from which I downloaded the SDK and Runtime Environment. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I have also tried downloading directly from the Sun website and still the error persists.
    I came across a new twist tonight. I copied class files from the CD to my hard drive. 4 separate files. 3 of which are called by the 4th.
    I can run these with no problem.
    Any ideas, why I would have compile errors????
    Thanks!!

    Oooops ... violated....
    Well first a constructor should have the same name as the class name so in our case what we have actually created is a static method statementOfPhilosophy() in class SetUpSite and not a constructor.
    Now why does second class report unresolved symbol ???
    Look at this line
    Class XYZ=new XYZ();
    sounds familiar, well this is what is missing from your second class, since there is no object how can it call a method ...
    why the precompiled classes run is cuz they contain the right code perhaps so my suggestion to you is,
    1) Review the meaning and implementation of Constructors
    2) Ask your instructor to do the same ( no pun intended ... )
    3) Check out this for understanding PATH & CLASSPATH http://www.geocities.com/gaurav007_2000/java/
    4) Look at the "import" statement, when we have code in different files and we need to incorporate some code in another it is always a good idea to use import statement, that solves quite a few errors.
    5) Finally forgive any goof up on this reply, I have looked at source code after 12 months of hibernation post dot com doom ... so m a bit rusty... shall get better soon though :)
    warm regards and good wishes,
    Gaurav
    CW :-> Mother of all computer languages.
    I HAM ( Radio-Active )
    * OS has no significance in this error
    ** uninstalling and reinstalling ? r u nuttttttts ??? don't ever do that again unless your compiler fails to start, as long as it is giving a valid error it is working man ... all we need to do is to interpret the error and try to fix the code not the machine or compiler.

  • Javac = "cannot find symbol" when compiling class referencing other classes

    I have several Java files in a directory which is declared as a package at the start of the files
    package filemanager;
    This program works perfectly in an IDE, however I'm having problems with compiling in command line.
    I have set the classpath as I understand to be right for my computer to:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_02\bin
    I can compile a class that references no other classes in this package/directory.
    However files which reference other classes bring up such errors:
    javac AllFiles.javaAllFiles.java:174: cannot find symbol
    symbol : variable Bob
    location : class filesmanager.AllFiles
    Bob.getItem(itemRef);
    Where Bob is an example of another class. Even though I can say, compile Bob on it's own as it doesnt have any such reference.
    I've tried:
    javac -cp "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_02\bin" AllFiles.javaThis also failed.
    Any ideas?

    I've tried spoon_'s suggestion, but I'm still getting the error ("cannot find symbol"). Here is my code:
    File Hello/Fred.java:
    package Hello;
    public class Fred
        public int age;
        public Fred()
            this.age = 1;
    } // public class FredFile Hello/Hello.java:
    package Hello;
    public class Hello
        public static void main(String args[])
            Fred fred = new Fred();
            System.out.println("Fred is " + fred.age);
    } // public class HelloAnd here is my attempt to compile Fred.java and Hello.java:
    C:/Users/levner/programs[219]javac -cp c:\users\levner\programs\hello Hello\Fred.java
    C:/Users/levner/programs[220]javac -cp c:\users\levner\programs\hello Hello\Hello.java

    Hello\Hello.java:14: cannot find symbol
    symbol  : class Fred

    2 errorsI am doing this work on a PC running Vista using javac 1.6.0_10. I've tried various combinations of upper and lower case names for the package and file names, and I always get the same errors.
    Thanks in advance for your help. David

  • Missing method body and cannot resolve symbol

    I keep getting these two errors when trying to compile. I know that I need to call my fibonacci and factorial functions from the main function. Is this why I am getting the missing method body error? How do I correct this?
    Am I getting the cannot resolve symbol because I have to set the num and fact to equal something?
    Thanks
    public class Firstassignment
    public static void main(String[]args)
         System.out.println();
    public static void fibonacci(String[]args);
         int even=1;
         int odd=1;
         while (odd<=100);
         System.out.println(even);
         int temp = even;
         even = odd;
         odd = odd + temp;
    public static void factorial (String[]args);
         for (int count=1;
         count<=num;
         count++);
         fact = fact * count;
         outputbox.printLine("Factorial of" + num + "is" + fact);

    Hey... :o)
    the problem is that you've put semicolons at the end of the function signature, like this:
    public static void fibonacci(String[]args);
    }that should happen only when the function is abstract... so ur function should actually look like this:
    public static void fibonacci(String[]args)
    }also, i think you've missed out on the declarations (like what are fact and num??)....

  • Compilation problem (cannot resolve symbol)

    I have searched the Forums for "cannot resolve symbol" and as usual, many posts with no answers or just advise that noone ever comes back to say works. I am trying to compile this code:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import org.acme.*;
    public class HelloOpenEJB extends HttpServlet {
    String factory = "org.openejb.client.LocalInitialContextFactory";
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
    throws IOException, ServletException {
    PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
    try{
    Properties p = new Properties();
    p.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, factory );
    InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext( p );
    //Lookup the bean using it's deployment id
    Object obj = ctx.lookup("/Hello");
    HelloHome ejbHome = (HelloHome) obj;
    //Use the HelloHome to create a HelloObject
    HelloHome ejbHome = (HelloHome)
    PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj, HelloHome.class);
    //The part we've all been wainting for...
    out.println("<html>");
    out.println("<body>");
    out.println("<head>");
    out.println("<title>Hello World!</title>");
    out.println("</head>");
    out.println("<body>");
    out.println("<h1>"+ ejbObject.sayHello() +"</h1>");
    out.println("</body>");
    out.println("</html>");
    } catch (Exception e){
    response.setContentType("text/plain");
    e.printStackTrace(out);
    I'm running this on a Linux box. When I compile, I get this:
    HelloOpenEJB.java:28: ejbHome is already defined in doGet(javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest,javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse)
    HelloHome ejbHome = (HelloHome)
    ^
    HelloOpenEJB.java:29: cannot resolve symbol

    location: class HelloOpenEJB
    PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj, HelloHome.class);
    ^
    HelloOpenEJB.java:38: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : variable ejbObject
    location: class HelloOpenEJB
    out.println(""+ ejbObject.sayHello() +"");
    ^
    3 errors
    I don't know why any of these errors are occuring, besides the obvious responses given back from javac, so can someone help? Thanks, Jeremy

    The error message "x already defined in y" means that you're trying to use a name that already exists in the current scope. In your case you have:
    HelloHome ejbHome = (HelloHome) obj;
    //Use the HelloHome to create a HelloObject
    HelloHome ejbHome = (HelloHome)
    PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj, HelloHome.class);Here you are trying to declare two instances of HelloHome with the same name.
    The reason that you would get "cannot resolve symbol" is that you are trying to access a variable or class that you haven't declared or imported.

  • Cannot resolve symbol..Swing / MDI

    I'm somewhat new to Java.
    I have an MDI app that I am creating. The main routine is in DeskTop.java.
    When DeskTop.class is run:
    1)Main creates a generic UserID class from userID.java( has two private strings and 4 methods to get userid, passwd, and set userid, passwd).
    This info will be used throughout the app to connect to various MySQL Dbs.
    2)Main creates the main application JFrame and a JMenu.
    One of the JMenuItems, named Logon creates a JInternalFrame (basically a login box with userid and password field and JButton called continue. An ActionPerformed is added to a continue JButton.
    There are many other JInternalFrames on the menu that have various DB functions.
    I need to have the action performed on the ActionEvent of the continue button access the UserID class and it's setUserID() and setPasswd() methods and set the (uid, pw) fields in the object. Yet anytime I try to access this object from the Logon object, I get a Cannot resolve symbol:
    This is a summary of the action performed on the continue button:
    uid = txt_userID.getText();
    userid = new String(uid).trim();
    pw = pw_password.getPassword();
    password = new String(pw).trim();
    UserID.setUserID(userid); /*UserID is the other object.Error is on*/
    UserID.setPasswd(password); /*the decimal point.*/
    All objects have a public constructor and the methods I am trying access are declared public.
    Files consist of (all in same directory):
    DeskTop.java (main JFRAME)
    PasswordBox.java ( JInternalFrame)
    UserIDPW.java (JInternalFrame)
    AddCompany.java (JInternalFrame)
    etc. ( other JInternalFrames)
    etc. ( other classes)
    Thanks for any input. If someone has a better method of making a MDI database app in Java, some info would be great.
    There will be other classes outside the gui. I am trying to build the business logic and the gui as seperate as I can.

    This may sound silly to ask, but without seeing all
    the code in this case you can imagine it's difficult
    to say - I presume that UserID is a class (ie a
    template for an object) rather than an object itself
    and that setUserID, setPasswd are static functions.
    The files you list dont include a UserID.java, so this
    means you haven't got a PUBLIC class called UserID
    (you may have one with private or package / friendly
    access) - hence you can't access it from outside. I am
    new myself - but this looks a likely candidate. [ I
    try to answer questions so that I can learn myself,
    but now I am off to bed!]Thank for the reply.
    The main function creates a public UserID object and it created the main gui JFrame DeskTop object. UserID has a public constructor and public methods.
    main function:
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    userIDPW userID = new userIDPassword();
    JFrame f = new DeskTop();
    Dimension screensize = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize();
    f.setSize(screensize);
    f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    f.setVisible(true);
    The DeskTop object has a JMenuitem in it called Login, it opens an InternalJFrame called PasswordBox.
    PasswordBox takes a userid and pw and then it needs to send the userid and pw to the userID object with two of its methods:
    Methods in userID object:
    public void setUserID(String userid)
    { this.userid = userid; }
    public void setPasswd(String passwd)
    ( this.passwd = passwd; }
    How doed one access this object (userID)? I have tried (from the PasswordBox) with no success:
    uid = txt_userID.getText();
    userid = new String(uid).trim();
    pw = pw_password.getPassword();
    password = new String(pw).trim();
    userID.setUserID(userid); --this fails, with Cannot resolve symbol
    userID.setPasswd(password); --this fails, with Cannot resolve symbol

  • Packages & "cannot resolve symbol"

    Hello all,
    I'm a Software Engineer that has recently moved from C/C++ to
    Java. I actually have a fairly good background in simple Java
    programming and OO from University and am finding the transition
    quite painless.
    However, I've come across something which will probably go into
    the "slaps forehead" books, but I'm really quite stuck!
    I've just started a new after-hours project, basically writing
    a simple email client in Java with specific features, and I just
    can't seem to get packages to work. No matter what I do (and I
    HAVE cruised the Java tutorials and books for two days now), I
    always keep getting the dreaded "cannot resolve symbol" message
    about classes in my packages.
    I am running on an old Win98 PC here at home, and this is the
    content of my autoexec.bat:
    PATH=C:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\bin;C:\j2sdk1.4.1_01;C:\adrianp;%PATH%
    SET CLASSPATH=.;C:\adrianp;%PATH%
    My source code is located in C:\adrianp\messaging\jmail and the
    files in that directory have the statement at their very top:
    package adrianp.messaging.jmail;
    Please note that the content of my autoexec.bat has been hacked
    to bits left, right and centre, and this is only the CURRENT
    version. Basically, I just can't seem to get the source and/or
    class files in C:\adrianp hierarchy to be found, no matter what
    I do.
    I've tried everything that various forums have suggested, but
    nothing works.
    When I remove the package stamement, everything works fine, but
    of course, this application will soon grow to a rather large
    number of source files, so I'd like to break them down into
    packages. Keeping everything in one directory is not slowing
    down my progress for now, but the fact that I can't organise
    this into packages is driving me batty!
    Please let me know if there is something I'm missing here.
    Thanks,
    Adrian Planinc

    My source code is located in C:\adrianp\messaging\jmail and the
    files in that directory have the statement at their very top:
    package adrianp.messaging.jmail; The package statement above means that the directory containing the adrianp directory must be in your classpath - in other words, C:\ must be in your classpath. Since you have . in your classpath, you could compile if "cd c:\" before compiling (of course, you have to give the correct path to the file you are trying to compile), or you could use the -classpath option of javac.

              System.out.println(j);
    }

    There is no key word or class "array", so it is giving that error.
    If you want to define an array
    do like this
    int[] intArray = {0,1,2}; // this is integer array with 0,1,2 as elements
    String[] strArray = new String[10]; // this is String array with 10 size

    Hi agian,
    I looked closer at your code, I think if you play around with directories and paths, you'll get it, and I think also when you import, you have to have put the class in a package...? Maybe? Blind leading the blind here! So at the top of your box class you have to say something like
    package org.blah.lala
    and you have to have that directory structure for the class files org/blah/lala/Box.class
    Does that make sense?
    And then when you import you say:
    import org.blah.lala.Box
    (I think)
    I cna only imagine that this 'help' I am giving you would be hilarious to a more experienced programmer!
    Anyway, best of luck.

  • Cannot resolve symbol error when compiling a class that calls another class

    I've read all the other messages that include "cannot resolve symbol", but no luck. I've got a small app - 3 classes all in the same package. BlackjackDAO and Player compile OK, but BlackjackServlet throws the "cannot resolve symbol" (please see pertinent code below)...
    I've tried lots: ant and javac compiling, upgrading my version of tomcat, upgrading my version of jdk/jre, making sure my servlet.jar is being seen by the compiler (at least as far as I can see from the -verbose feedback)...any help would be GREAT! Thanks in advance...

  • Cannot resolve symbol error while trying to define methods in a class

    Well, I'm fairly new to java and I'm trying to write a simple program that will take user input for up to 100 die and how many sides they have and will then roll them and output the frequencies of numbers occuring. I have overloaded the constructor for the Die class to reflect different choices the user may have when initializing the Die.
    Here is my code:import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class Die
         private final int MIN_FACES = 4;
         private int numFaces;
         private int i = 0;
         private int faceValue;
         private Die currentDie;
         private BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
         private String line = null;
         public Die()
              numFaces = 6;
              faceValue = 1;
         public Die (int faces)
              if (faces < MIN_FACES) {
                   numFaces = 6;
                   System.out.println ("Minimum number of faces allowed is 6.");
                   System.out.println ("Setting faces to 6... . . .  .  .  .   .   .   .");
              else
                   numFaces = faces;
              faceValue = 1;
    //Returns an array of Die Objects
         public Die (int num_die, int faces)
              numFaces = faces;
              Die[] protoDie = new Die[num_die];
              for (i = 0; i <= num_die-1; i++)
                   Die currentDie = new Die(numFaces);
                   protoDie = protoDie.initMultiDie(currentDie, i);
         public Die (double num_die)
              int numberOfDie = (int) num_die;
              Die[] protoDie = new Die[numberOfDie];
              System.out.print ("Enter the number of sides for die #" + i);
              for (i=0; i <= protoDie.length; i++) {
              do {
                   try {
                        line = br.readLine();
                        numFaces = Integer.parseInt(line);
                   catch (NumberFormatException nfe) {
                        System.out.println ("You must enter an integer.");
                        System.out.print ("Setting number of dice to 0, please reenter: ");
                   if (numFaces < 0) {
                        System.out.println ("The number of sides must be positive.");
                        numFaces *= -1;
                        System.out.println ("Number of sides is: " + numFaces);
                   else
                      if (numFaces = 0) {
                        System.out.println ("Zero dice is no fun. =[");
                        System.out.print ("Please reenter the number of sides: ");
                   numFaces = 0;
              while (numFaces == 0);
              Die currentDie = new Die(numFaces);
              protoDie[i] = protoDie.initMultiDie(currentDie, i);
              i = 0;
         public Die[] initMultiDie (Die[] protoDie, Die currentDie, int i)
              protoDie[i] = currentDie;
              return protoDie;
         public Die reInit (int sides)
              currentDie.roll();
              return currentDie;
         public int roll()
              faceValue = (int) (Math.random() * numFaces) + 1;
              return faceValue;
    }When I compile I get 2 errors at lines 42 and 73 saying:
    Cannot resolve symbol | symbol: method initMultiDie(Die, int) | location: class Die[] | protoDie[i] = protoDie.initMultiDie(currentDie, i)
    I've tried mixing things up with invoking the method, such as including protoDie in the parameter liist, instead of invoking the initMultiDie method thru the protoDie Die[] object. I'm a little confused as to what I can and cannot do with defining arrays of Objects like Die. Thank you for any input you may be able to provide.
    ~Lije

    I may as well just replace Die with Dice and allow
    Dice to represent a collection of 1 die.. I just like
    to cut on bloat and make my programs be as efficient
    as possible.Efficiency and avoiding code bloat are good goals, but you don't necessarily achieve it by creating the smallest number of classes. If you have N algorithms in M lines, then you have that many, regardless of whether they're in one class or two. A really long source file can be a worse example of bloat than two source files of half the size -- it can be harder to read, less clear in the design, and thus with more bugs...
    The important thing is clarity and a strong design.
    The weird thing is, that initMultiDie is
    what seems to be throwing up the error, but I don't
    see why. Meh, I'm sure I'll figure it out.Refactoring a class to make the design more transparent often helps you figure out bugs.

  • "cannot resolve symbol" error when using super.paintComponent

    I am trying to override the paintComponent method in a class extending a JFrame, but when I call super.paintComponent(g) from inside the overridden method I get the error
    QubicGUI.java:63: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : method paintComponent (java.awt.Graphics)
    location: class javax.swing.JFrame
    super.paintComponent(g);
    ^
    1 error
    I can't see where I am deviating from examples I know work. It is a very small program, so I have included it here:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
    import java.net.URL;
    class QubicGUI extends JFrame
         private int width;
         private int height;
         private Image background;
         public int getWidth()
         {     return width;     }
         public int getHeight()
         {     return height;     }
         public boolean isOpaque()
    return true;
         public QubicGUI()
              super("Qubic"); //set title
              // The following gets the default screen device for the purpose of finding the
              // current settings of height and width of the screen
         GraphicsEnvironment environment = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment();
              GraphicsDevice device = environment.getDefaultScreenDevice();
              DisplayMode display = device.getDisplayMode();
              width = display.getWidth();
              height = display.getHeight();
              // Here we set the window to cover the entire screen with a black background, and
              // remove the decorations. (This includes the title bar and close, minimize and
              // maximize buttons and the border)
              setUndecorated(false);
              setVisible(true);
              setSize(width,height);
              setResizable(false);
              setBackground(Color.black);
              // Initializes the background Image
              Image background = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("background.gif");
              // This is included for debugging with a decorated window.
              setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    } // end constructor
              public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
                   super.paintComponent(g);
              } // end paintComponenet
    } // end QubicGUI

    Two things I want to know:
    1. I was trying to access a variable as JLabel
    myLabel; defined in the constructor of a class from
    the constructor of another class. I got this error
    message - "Cannot access non-static variable from a
    static context". Why(When both are non-static am I
    getting the message as static context)?Post some code. It's hard to pinpoint a syntax error like that without seeing the code.
    Also, there may be cleaner ways of doing what you want without having classes sharing labels.
    2. I am using a map to set the attributes of a font.
    One of the key-value pair of the map is
    TextAttributesHashMap.put(TextAttribute.FOREGROUND,Colo
    .BLUE);
    But when I using the statement g.drawString("First
    line of the address", 40, 200); the text being
    displayed is in black and not blue. Why?You need to use the drawString that takes an AttributedCharacterIterator:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.font.*;
    import java.text.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Example  extends JPanel {
        public static void main(String[] args)  {
            JFrame f = new JFrame("Example");
            f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            Container cp = f.getContentPane();
            cp.add(new Example());
            f.setSize(400,300);
            f.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
            f.setVisible(true);
        protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
            super.paintComponent(g);
            String text = "Every good boy does fine always";
            AttributedString as = new AttributedString(text);
            as.addAttribute(TextAttribute.FAMILY, "Lucida Bright");
            as.addAttribute(TextAttribute.SIZE, new Float(16));
            as.addAttribute(TextAttribute.FOREGROUND, Color.BLUE, 0, 5);
            as.addAttribute(TextAttribute.FOREGROUND, Color.GREEN, 6, 10);
            as.addAttribute(TextAttribute.FOREGROUND, Color.RED, 11, 14);
            as.addAttribute(TextAttribute.FOREGROUND, Color.YELLOW, 15, 19);
            as.addAttribute(TextAttribute.FOREGROUND, Color.MAGENTA, 20, 24);
            as.addAttribute(TextAttribute.FOREGROUND, Color.CYAN, 25, 31);
            g.drawString(as.getIterator(), 10, 20);

  • Visual Studio 2012 cannot resolve symbol or Errors control is not a member of class

    Visual Studio 2012 Web Site Project (Note not a Web application, so there are not Designer.vb files) > Site works perfectly fine and using IIS and attaching to IIS to debug code.
    However, if I try to build the site inside of Visual Studio I am getting lots of Errors ‘pnlName’ is not a member of ‘Page_Name’ In the code behind I am getting errors ‘Cannot resolve symbol ‘pnlName’
    .ascx Page
    <li style="margin-right:0;" id="pnlName" runat="server"><a href="/cart" title="Checkout" class="global-checkout">Checkout</a></li>
    .ascx.vb page
    Me.pnlName.Attributes.Remove("style")
    I have cleaned, rebuild and nothing gets rid of these errors, but again the site works as designed, but I would like to launch and debug inside of Visual Studio.

    Cor,
    What I am stating is this is a solution using the Web Site Project instead of a
    Web Application Project.
    Web Site projects do not require Designer.vb files, Web Application Projects add Designer.vb files in the solution.
    Background: I have been hired to support a very successful e-commerce site that was built by a 3rd party vendor (I had no input on the contract or specification, because I would have went with
    MVC).  The site works 100% correctly, however from my 2003 - 2015 experience with Visual Studio and Web Development being in Web Forms and MVC I have always built ASP.NET Solutions using the Web Application Project Templates, which compiles the code down
    to .dlls.
    A Web Site project does not compile the code, but simply uses the .vb files and they have to be migrated to the server with the .aspx files. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd547590%28v=vs.110%29.aspx
    Currently the only way I can debug this Solution is to attach to the w3wp.exe process running locally on my work station.
    The Solution is comprised of two Web Sites, which I cannot get it to compile because of the following errors -
     'webServerControlName' is not a member of '(Protected Code Behind Class Name)'  I am reaching out to the MSDN community to see if anyone has experienced this issue with
    Web Site Projects.
    I hope that clears up the Project Type question.
