Cannot See ODBC System DSN's on Windows Vista 64bit in Crystal Reports 2008

Hi,
I have installed Crystal Reports 2008 on my Windows Vista 64 bit PC and have setup an ODBC connection to my mySQL box which I wish to report on.
Crystal Reports however does not see the ODBC DSN's which I have configured.
I have installed the product on a 32 bit Windows system with no problems.
Is there a solution to this?

I have found the solutions;
My ODBC drivers did in fact install. Microsoft, in all their wisdom, has 2 versions of odbcad32. A 32 bit and a 64 bit. They are both named odbcad32.exe.
They put the 32 bit odbcad32.exe in the syswow64 directory. They put the 64 bit odbcad32.exe in the system32 directory. 32 bit apps will pick up the 32 bit registry setting and 64 bit will pick up the 64 bit registry setting. system32 comes before syswow64 in the system path so the 64bit software runs before the 32 bit software.
So, when I manually ran odbcad32.exe in the syswow64 directory, I was able to configure my connections and everything worked fine.

I've been making quite a bit of progress in switching migrating our Crystal Reports 8.0 reports and apps to Crystal Reports 2008 on our Windows 2008 server, but am currently stuck on a DSN issue that I hope someone here can help me out with.
When I go to select a new ODBC data source in Crystal Reports 2008, the only ODBC data sources that show up in the list are User DSNs. These reports will be served via our intranet website, so I need to use System DSNs. The same is true on both my development computer running 64-bit Vista and the production server running Windows Server 2008.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 (C#) for development along with Crystal Reports 2008 (not the Crystal Reports Basic that comes with Visual Studio).
How can I use a System DSN? Any help or advice will be much appreciated!

The first thing to check is to ensure you are creating a 32 bit ODBC DSN, and not a 64 bit one. Crystal Reports 2008 is 32 bit only.

Oracle ODBC System DSN Not Accessible in CR 2008 Developer x64

Operating System: Windows Vista Enterprise x64 SP-2
Application: Crystal Reports 2008 Developer SP-1 v12.1.0.892
Oracle InstantClient Basic x64 v11.1.0.7.0 with ODBC and SQLPlus components installed
In the CR 2008 Database Expert, under Create New Connection > ODBC (RDO), the system DSN that I created to access an Oracle database does not appear. The Oracle InstantClient and its ODBC componenet are working normally: I can access the Oracle database in question using SQLPlus or with a Perl script that accesses this database using the Oracle ODBC driver.
Everything works normally on another system using Windows Vista Enterprise x86 SP-2, the same version of Crystal Reports 2008, and the same version of the Oracle InstantClient for x86. In this scenario the system DSN does appear in the list in the Database Expert, and various reports are able to access the database.
Is CR 2008 Developer running on Vista x64 a supported configuration? Notwithstanding this, are there any workarounds?

Hi,
1. It's important to understand which kind of DSN you have on an x64 system.
2. We can create an ODBC connection (DSN) on the 32-bit side of the system or on the 64-bit side of the system.
3. 32-bit applications will only see ODBC connections created in the 32-bit side, and 64-bits applications will only see ODBC connections from the 64-bit side. Each kind of application has is own registry.
4. To setup DSN for 32-bit application you must use: %WINDIR%\SysWOW6\odbcad32.exe
5. To setup DSN for 64-bit application you must use: %WINDIR%\System32\odbcad32.exe
6. As BusinessObjects Eneterprise is a 32 bit application so we should create an ODBC DSN using the 'odbcad32.exe' from '%WINDIR%\SysWOW64\'.

System Update 4 on Windows 7 64bit - An error occurred while gathering user information

I tried searching Google and this forum for possible solutions, but without much success. I would appreciate any help on this.

in this situation try following:
open registry:
HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Software\Lenovo\System Update\Preferences\UCSettings\RunTime
check if the informations are correct.
In case not, then correct them.
- Try to run TVSU as Administrator (right-click on it and select Run as Administrator)
In case this will be of no use, then just go into the install folder of TVSU and there you will see the folder called "Logs". In there you will for sure find the exact information on what went wrong. Perhaps some proxy config, or just the server was unavailable.

If I understand correctly your iPad mini is not being recognized in iTunes on your Windows Vista PC. I would recommend you use the troubleshooting in the following article:

Start with these steps and work your way down as needed:
Restart
Turn off your computer and your iOS device, then turn them on again.
Update your computer
Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
Update iTunes

This has been answered many times before, but my 2 cts for what it is worth...
I have a new PC with Vista Home Premium 64 bit, 6 GB memory, two disks, quad processor, MS Office Small Business, etc. I made a backup on my old machine to a USB disk of my 40 GB of pictures managed with PSE-7. I then installed PCE-7 on the new 64 bit machine and did a restore of the pictures. All worked first time without the slightest problem. I also installed much other software also without doing anything special concerning the 64 bits and without any problems.
Two other points possibly of interest:
- One can deal with iTunes loosing access to playlist items by exporting the playlists into an XML file and making a global edit of the file path names if the data strutcture on the new machine is different. One then imports the corrected XML.
- I bought a 2560*1600 30 inch NEC display and viewing good-quality digital pictues is amazing. The first time I have found an output device with resolution better than a tiny fraction of what is in the picture files. Colours are also excellent.

Well I'm developing on a 32-Bit OS with Crystal Reports 2008. I've deployed my solution to SharePoint, but when i try to call a report in the aspx-Website i get the following error:

I've read, that there isn't a 64-Bit runtime version of CR2008. Then i tryed the two following suggestions i found in this forum:
1. Try to run the IIS-Application-Pool in 32-Bit-Mode -> This don't work, because SharePoint then throws a "Internal Server Error - Code 500" (no SharePoint Sites are available).
2. Try to compile the Visual Studio Project as 32-Bit -> This don't work, because SharePoint could not load the assembly
Well, are there any other hints, suggestions or experiences how i could get this to work?

- Windows Server 2008 Standard 64bit SP2
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
- Oracle Client 10gR2 64bit
- I tried Crystal Report 2008 Runtime, Crystal Report 2008 Runtime SP1, Crystal Report 2008 Runtime SP2, Crystal Report 2008 Runtime SP3.
- Crystal Report Basic Runtime for Visual Studio 2008 (x64)
On a 32bit-system or 32bit-mode (and 32bit Oracle Client) everything is working fine. But I have to use the 64bit Oracle Client, therefore, Crystal Report have to work in 64bit-mode.

It does work on 64 bit OS - as a 32 bit application. CR 2008 is 32 bit only.

Crystal Reports 2008 runtime error while running on Windows Server X64

I have a .NET web application compiled as X86 in Visual Studio 2008 invoking Crystal Reports 2008 SP2 that's running fine at a number of sites running Windows Server 2003 X86.

When deploying this app to Windows Server 2008 X64 I get the error message below. 

I'm aware that there is an unanswered question similar to this already in the forum but my application is compiled for X86 and I've tryed installing a variety of run times including "crruntime_12_2_mlb.msi" and "crredist2008_x86.msi".

What combination of compile and run time is needed to get around this issue?

Help with Drivers for HP dv8315nr for Windows Vista 64bit

Hi everyone! In 2007 i bought a laptop a HP Pavilion dv8315nr with the hope that the stickers in his keyboard saying "Vista Compatible" was true and the promise of that the AMD Turion processor can handle a 64bit OS. Today i realize that was not entirely true, because i got the Windows Vista ultimate for 64bits and the processor can handle this OS but i see that in the HP site don't provide any support for the drivers, so i get the problem that i don't have audio in my laptop and the modem adapter doesn't work either.
My question is can anybody help me with the audio driver for the HPdv8315nr for windows vista 64bit, that's my priority.

I have the same problem with my Photosmart 7350's--I have two. I cannot get either to work with the New Mac Pro driver--Gutenprint .... I got the new drivers from Apple for HP but they fixed nothing. I even downloaded the newer drivers from HP, but their Printer Assistant does not seem to be working. I downloaded it twice. I can get a test page to print a few lines but the rest of the page is blank. When I try to print with either Pages or Word I get either nothing or trash.
My computer is the New Mac Pro 2.8 8-core with OS X 10.5.4.
These printers work with my Windows machine and I have read where they work with the Mac OS X. Can someone help. The link for printing trouble shooting did not help. My guess is the driver but I cannot get one do show up even after the HP download.

Crystal Reports 2008, mySQL, JDBC, and ODBC

Hello everyone.
I have just spent a very challenging few days getting Crystal Reports 2008 Developer (advanced version) working with a mySQL data source. I fell into several pits and narrowly escaped being eaten by monsters. I thought I'd share my experience to spare others the same trouble. All the stuff I'm writing about here applies to the runtime as well as the Developer UI.
I'm working on Windows Server 2008 R2, 64 bit, standard edition. The mySQL server is 5.1.42. The mySQL ODBC connector is version 5.1.6. You need the 32-bit version of this connector, even if you're on a 64-bit machine.
Lessons learned:
1. JDBC connectivity in Crystal Reports doesn't work correctly. It consumes excessive memory when a report requires lots of rows from a data base. Don't even think about using it.
2. Crystal Reports has a problem with ODBC for mySQL in which it sometimes gives a dialog box with these words in it.
The alias requested 'SOME_TABLE_NAME', contains a combination
of characters which is not considered to be valid.
This error message come up when using items on Crystal's "Database" menu like "Set Datasource Location..."
To fix this you need to make a registry change. As far as I know this has to be done for each account on each machine running the Crystal Developer. (insert usual warning about registry editor). Find the key named:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\Database
Create a new string value named InvalidAliasCharList Give it this value:
.:{}()@&$#^!*~|%\\\"
Notice that the last two characters are backslash double-quote.
Good luck. It actually works pretty well now that it's working.

I was wondering if I may ask some additional help...
We're on version 14.0.4.738 RTM and we are having the same issue.... need to enter the alias as table name with a backslash, ie serparate_work_orders\ for login credential reasons, but all the regedits listed seem to refer to locations in the registry that dont exist.
Version 14 have two "database locations" from what i can see called...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseServer
I've applied the patch to both these locations and still no joy, same error message!
Any ideas?

Deploy Crystal Reports 2008, VS2008, Windows Server 2008

Hi All,
I'm looking for guidance on how to deploy a web application developed on VS2008 - I've installed Crystal Reports 2008 (trial version). So in affect crystal reports is integrated in the web app.
So now I want to deploy to our web server to complete the POC.
I've no idea what I need to do to deploy. I installed my trial version of CR2008 on our server and moved the web app onto it as well. Web App running fine under IIS7. I've added the folowing to my web.config

I found another thread similar to the error I am getting which recommended adding Everyone to the Permissions on the C:\Windows\Temp folder. With this set, when I try to navigate to the report on the web app I don't get the error as before - but the application just sits there and spins it wheels and nothing happens. When I take off this permission I am back to the previous error.
Theres nothing revealing in the eventlogs that I can see.
Do you think this could be down to IIS just not knowing what to do with a .rpt file?

We are using Crystal Reports 2008 in our application. These are working fine in XP Professional OS. But the Same code is not working in Windows 7 operating system. When I debug, I found report Load is failing. Error is at below line of code.
CR.Load( "D:\Sample_Win7.rpt", OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy) ' CR is Report Document
Can any one suggest me, what settings are required in Win 7 OS to get out of this issue.

How to configure Crystal Reports 2008 and IIS7 and Windows Server 2008?

I have downloaded and installed the trial for Crystal Reports 2008 on our Windows 2008 server. I can open Crystal Reports on the server just fine, but I get HTTP 500 errors when I attempt to view a report hosted on that server via the web.
As far as I can tell, the handler mappings in IIS7 are not configured properly, although I confirmed that the Crystal Reports 2008 install did add several handlers. I read that I must configure the application pool to enable 32-bit applications. I did that and am still getting the same error. Documentation seems sparse and I've spent the better part of the day searching the forum here with no luck. What am I missing?

We will ultimately be using ASPX/C#, but this simple case has a very basic report with no databind, just a single text label that reads "test succeeded" and I'm attempting to access it by direct URL (i.e. "http://192.168.99.21/crystalreportviewers12/test.rpt"). This works on our Windows 2000 server running Crystal Reports 8.
I've also tested with a simple test.aspx file with only the line "Response.Write(System.DateTime.Now.ToString())" and that works just fine. This file is in the same folder as the test.rpt file.
If I leave the Application Pool set for the "Integrated" managed pipeline mode, I continue to get a rather generic "500 - Internal server error". If I switch it to "Classic", I get the following error:
