Cant open raw+jpeg

Hi-  have a Canon 50D and went to download to Macbook and now the files show .igy in front of image numbers- get message saying cant open them- this is all the info I have as a friend was using the camera and there not sure what they did to it- any help would be appreciated
-Tommy

Are you sure images are showing "igy" in front of the file number?
They should show  IMGxxxx.JPG or IMGxxxx.CR2 (if the camera is set to use sRGB color space)
or
_MGxxxx.JPG and _IMGxxxx.CR2 (if the camera is set to use Adobe RGB color space).
When shooting RAW + JPEG, you should see one of each for every file number.
In all cases the "xxxx" would be the sequential file number between 0001 and 9999.
50D cannot shoot video, so there are no types of video files possible.
There is no way to prevent 50D from using these file number conventions. In other words, nothing can be changed in the camera by the user... except the choice of sRGB or Adobe RGB color space, which determine whether an "I" or an underscore are used at the beginning of the file name.
If the file name is showing something different, that change must be happening when you are importing the images from the memory card  to your computer. What method do you use? Is it set to rename the files during import? (I just use a drag and drop to copy or move the files from the folder on the memory card to a folder on the computer that I've prepared in advance... In other words, I don't use any software-based import.)
If the file extension has been changed accidentally, you should be able to edit it and change it back. Don't mix up the .CR2 and .JPG though. The CR2 files will always be the much larger of the two.

  • I cant open raw photos in cs4

i cant open raw photos in cs4 with the canon 5d mark 3 the plug in doesnt work

The Canon 5D Mark 3 requires Camera Raw 7.1 or higher.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
CS4 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to 5.7
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
To open Raw 5D Mk 3 photos you'll have to either:
    a) upgrade to CS6, or
    b) join the Adobe Cloud and get CS6
Alternatively, you can download the free Adobe DNG converter
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/12/camera-raw-7-3-and-dng-converter-7-3-now-a vailable.html
Convert all the Raw images to DNG then edit the DNGs in CS4.

  • I cant open raw files in my cannon 7d

i have a cannon 7D cant open raw files in elements 11

Here are what versions of Camera Raw support what models of cameras:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Here are what versions of Adobe software use what versions of Camera Raw:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
Cross-referencing these two lists, it would appear that the PSE11 updated to its maximum ACR version of 8.0 will read DMC-G5 raws, and XZ2 raws, but not 70D raws, which you'll need PSE12 updated to ACR 8.3 to work with.
What version of ACR do you have for your PSE11?  Use Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw to find out.

  • Cant open RAW file

I have Photoshop Elements 5.o and trying to open some raw files that were shot with a nikon D80 in raw + jpeg. When up loading from card reader Photoshop gets all the jpeg but when it comes to the NEF files I get a pop-up saying " cannot open 1234.NEF' because its the wrong type of file"
Is this a problem with Photoshop or my camera? I am running under windows XP with SP2.I have downloaded the new version of raw 4.1 for Photoshop and this did not help.
Can you help me with this?
    Thanks,Mike

    Ramon,
Your story about the Windows Recycle Bin bothered me. It didn't sound like normal behavior. So here on my work computer where I have Photoshop CS2 installed, I took the camera raw plug-in and put it in the Recycle Bin and then started Photoshop. I went to Help/about plug-ins and Camera Raw wasn't even on the list. I tried opening a DNG file and got the expected "wrong kind of file" message that is displayed when there is no ACR installed or the wrong version is installed. I restored Camera Raw.8bi from the recycle bin and started Photoshop again, and then everything functioned normally. So my suspicion is that there was something else going on on that computer that you spoke of. Yes, I understand from others I have spoken with that the Mac is a much more efficient operating system. But I am 64 years old and have more than 20 years experience in programming for the PC. Maybe if I had another 20 years that I expected to be spending working on computers then it would be reasonable to consider changing. But at this point I just don't have the desire to make the switch. A lot of people have problems with Windows (I think) because they don't take the time to think about what they are doing. The argument can be made with the Mac you don't even have to think about what you're doing. That could very well be true. But I'm satisfied as I know you are. Anyway, I just thought I would share this little experiment.

  • Sony NEW RX10 & iPhoto Cant open RAW files

Hey Guys, I know that not ALL RAW files are equal! I just picked up a NEW SONY RX10 and its shooting RAW files in Sony's ARW format.. I see that the NEW a7's are updated in OSX updates, Im assuming that the a7's and the New RX10 are the same ARW format, but I cant open these files in Preview and Iphoto wont see them either! Im using OSX 10.8.5 (ML) and Iphoto 11 (9.4.3) (720.91) Is anyone else having this issue with a RX10 or newer Sony camera with ARW files... Please reply! I really would like to shoot in RAW and use iPhoto to edit! I guess not ALL SONY .ARW are equal????

Im assuming that the a7's and the New RX10 are the same ARW format,
There you go - that is an incorrect assumption (as most assumptions are - as you know when you assume you make an ***ume out of ***ume & assume) - every RAW format for every camera is different and requires specific support for tha tcamera - notice in the support list that many different cameras in the same family are listed seperatly
Usually Apple releases Sony RAW support pretty quickly since Sony is a major manfactuer of consumer and professional cameras
Tell Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
The Sony software that came with the camera may help (although my experiance is that Sony has poor to non-existance support for Macs) and possible the Adobe RAW converter can help until Apple releases the required update
And it is very possible that the update will only apply to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.x so it is possible that you will have to upgrade your OS and iPhoto (both free) - when you do be sure to backup first
The current Mavericks list is at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5955

  • Cant open RAW files from Nikon D300S

I have a Nikon D300S.  I can't open RAW files in Adobe CS4.  Screen message is 'Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document'.  I understood from this Adobe website that the fix was to download Camera Raw 5_5.  I've done that and the same screen message appears.  What am I doing wrong / what do I need to do to fix the problem.   If you can list a step by step process in the plainest terms possible then that would be appreciated.  Thanks

Firstly thanks to all who are trying to assist.  I appreciate your spending time on this.   Hopefully this additional info will help:
    (1) the camera is a Nikon D300s.  I'm not aware of any model details beyond this   It was bought c9 months ago.
    (2) I bought Adobe CS4 before buying the Nikon D300s.   I've used CS4 to convert RAW files from my other cameras - a Nikon D2H and a Minolta Dimage - without any bother at all.
    (3) CS4 is loaded onto my Windows based PC in to the Windows 'Downloads' folder.  I'm not using any Mac computers.
    (4) The procedure I followed to upload the Adobe files was:
    (a)  I clicked 'Help' - About Plug-in - Camera Raw.  Info on screen says 'Version 5.0.0.178
    (b)  In looking at the Adobe support web pages (I can't now find which one it was) it indidated I should check for updates.  I downloaded and saved  Photoshop_11.0.2_mul_AdobeUpdate.  Its filed in my 'Downloads' folder in Windows.
    (c) I used the Adobe search engine using an enquiry "CS4 Camera Raw Updates'.  This produced a page with box at the top and 2 headings 'Digital camera raw file support' and 'Adobe camera raw and DNG convertor downloads'.  Under this second heading there are choices to click for Widows and Mac OS.  I selected Windows.  The result produces a list of Updates / Programmes.   I selected Adobe DNG Convertor 5.5 update and Camera Raw 5.5 update and downloaded both into my Windows 'Downloads' folder.  I chose these because according to the list info they were relevanf for the Nikon D300s.  I attempted to open a photo taken from the D300s in Raw and the photo would not open - the usual '......not the right document' message.
    (d) from Forum contributions I then deleted version 5.5 of both files downloaded at (c) above and installed version 5.7 and then tried to view the Raw image again, Same result.  This is the up to date position as at this post.
Have I missed a step somewhere? eg should there be a step forcing a link from the downloaded updates to CS4 or do the downloads automatically link to CS4 when the download is complete?
Any furhter help you can offer is appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Still cant open RAW file in bridge in CS3

I am on a g4 powerbook and have both cs3 and cs2 installed on my computer. In cs2 bridge i can double click a raw rile and open it in bridge, and i can also paste my raw adjustments to said file in bridge. I cant do any of this in cs3. i ran the script to delete the beta and tried suggestions in other posts, but no luck. anyone have an idea?

Have you installed the ACR plug in for CS3 (current ACR 4.4) in the right place according to the install instructions?
If you look in PSCS 3 in the menu under Photoshop - About Plug ins it should show you Camera Raw with the version number and only one install.

  • Cant open raw files in ps cc

Ok, I think I had to be signed in to ask.
I upgraded from PSE 12 to Photoshop/Lightroom cc.  Did this today.  Loaded some of my actions in PS.
But it won't open my raw files.
I have a 70D Canon.  Says I need camera raw 8.2 or higher.  There wasn't just an 8.2... there WAS a dng converter - is that what I'm supposed to download?  Well I did.  Now when I try to open it, I get a pop up that says I have to have windows 7.... I have windows vista.
help..... If I can't get this working I will just go back to PSE....

You may be able to install the ACR 8.3 update from this page:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-84-support-policy.html
If you mean you signed up for the Photography Plan at $10/month that includes LR 5 and PS-CC, that’s probably not very useful to do on Vista since the newer versions of software require OSX 10.7 or Windows 7.

  • Cant open raw files in elements 11

i have just purchased a canon 6d and when i launch elements 11 it just goes straight to the editing suit not the raw editor, how can i get over this.

What operating system are you using?
What is your screen resolution set at?
Generally that indicates your screen resolution is to low to use the camera raw dialog and thus pse 11 skips the opening the acr dialog and just opens the camera raw file straight into the pse 11 editor.

  • Cant Open Raw Photos

I have a new Cannon 70D camera.  I shot RAW photos this past weekend and downloaded the photos to my computer.  I try to open them in Photoshop Elements 10 and I get a message that they are in the wrong format.  My photos have .CR2 on them.  Got any ideas?  Does this new camera require a upgrade in Photoshop?  What could be wrong?

Most probably you will require a new PSE to edit these photos directly but you don't have to because there are various ways to get this going:
    1) First make sure that your PSE is up to date by going to:
    Help >> Upgrades
    2) Next download DNG convertor from Adobe website. For windows the link is here:
    <https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5694&fileID=5707>
    3) To use the DNG convertor, you can view this video:
    <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bqGovpuihw>
This should almost take care of your requirements.

  • I cant open raw files fron cannon 700d

Using CS5 which says it is "up to date" Bridge and Camera Raw all say they are "up to date" but are not the latest version and wont open the files from the Cannon 700D

The Canon 700D was first supported by Adobe Camera Raw 7.4 which is only compatible with CS6 and higher
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
ACR7.4 is not compatible with CS5.
    Your choices:
    Upgrade to CS6
Purchase Lightroom 5. Open the Raw files from the 700D and convert them to TIFFs. Edit the TIFFs in CS5.
    Join the Cloud
    Join the Photoshop Photography Program
    https://creative.adobe.com/plans/offer/photoshop+lightroom
Convert the Raw files from the 700D using the free Adobe DNG Converter. Then edit the DNGs in CS5

  • Cant open raw file in pse10

how can I open a raw (orf) file created by olympus ep5 camera in pse 10
    kevin

    Hi,
A raw file from the Olympus E-P5 cannot be opened directly in PSE 10 as it it a new camera.
    You need to
    1) Buy PSE 12
    or
    2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694
    MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5695
Once installed, use the converter to convert the ORF files to DNG files and then import the DNG files into PSE 10.
